Staff is not very caring when it comes to dealing with people over the phone... I needed help with something and they are like a robot on the phone and don't care about helping... what a shame... my membership is going to be cancelled and I will join another location :-(

Honestly the best thing about this gym is smoothies. Joined last week. The floor in the sauna is half broke. Half tile half nothing and random brown paper towels and water bottles under the bench. A lot of weight machines are missing rubber handles. 1 rubber handle 1 metal bar. Treadmills were slow and outdated. Very sticky also the treadmills. Missing grout in the showers and just didn't smell like it should. Garbage in locker room was overflowing to the floor. I've read previous responses to reviews and they say cleanliness is a priority but doesn't seem to be the case. The staff is extra friendly though.

Great gym, great vibe and clean. Equipment always works and when machines break down they don’t stay broken longer than a day or two. Majority of gym members are serious about fitness so there is a loose but no nonsense vibe in the gym that’s sort of understood. Members treat each other with respect, like family.

Good place to go and lift weights, but for last 2 months every time I went to use the treadmills I would always come back sick! The sanitation on the treadmills and equipment need to be prioritized by the employees . I got nasty sore throats twice due to this issue. Also the saunas should be checked its unusually filthy in there

Upgrading my review back to 5 stars. Water fountain has been replaced with a new and modern one. I spoke, they listened, I'm very glad. I've been to gyms all over the tri state area. New York, long Island, Connecticut. Been to gyms around the world. Worked out in more places I have time to mention. This retro, is by far, the nicest, cleanest and most comfortable gym I've ever been to. Been coming here since 2015 and I gotta say I love this gym.

Update: please give these 2 machines space. There's plenty, but their bolted to the ground, so we can't move them. 🙏

worst place in the world. They told me I had a 7 day notice to cancel and then I canceled on the 7th day and they told me I had to pay the next month or they are going to send it to collections. They then proceeded to text my brother trying to heckle me down for money. Eryone there is extremely nice except the manager. He doesn't care about people or the gym because he hasn't cleaned it in years and he only wants to scam people. Never go here.

Watch your stuff! Had my locker broken into and wallet stolen at this Retro location. Not the first time this has happened here either if you google it. When I asked how someone could just rip off a lock from a locker, they said maybe bolt cutters. In addition to that incident, a lot of the cardio equipment is broken with broken monitors and audio jacks; the clips for the cable equipment go missing a lot; constantly dodging cameras from the selfie sticks and tripods; and there doesn't seem to be any AC or air circulation so this place wreaks. Stopped going here even though it's only about a half mile away and opt to drive to Clark or Florham Park instead. But seriously time to consider a new gym franchise.

The actual workout space is really nice and large, however... There is a musk that permeates the mens locker room. The locker room could be completely empty, yet still smell like the foulest body odor imaginable.

I frequent 2-3 different retro locations throughout the week due to changing work locations. And this retro is by far the smelliest.

They are crooks here. I paid for year membership for my son for a Christmas gift. The people in the counter gave me a price and I paid. They started to take money from my son credit card. I went in to talk to the manager to ask her to honor the deal I made at Christmas with her employees and she said no. All I want is for them to honor their deal with me. I asked for corporate phone number and she said, she doesn’t have it and to get out. These people are no reputable and they are thieves. They don’t honor their contracts.

The best gym I ever been to. The staff is nice and a lot of the members are like family. They have an ultimate membership where you can bring a free guest for just over 10 dollars extra per month which most other gyms don't have. They also have great equipment and a wide variation of barbells and three squat racks. I can do all of the exercises I want at this gym.

I was in love with this place until these summer days. I don't know if the AC unit is not working but its extremely hot in here. I just got to this place and I am leaving because of how humid it feels. There's no way you can get a good workout like this. Please fix or turn on your AC unit.

Nothing but love for this place! Absolutely amazing gym. I’d give them a 10/10 if I could. Since corona I haven’t been able to go to the gym. Now being able to go has been a great experience. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Plus the gym isn’t to crowded in the morning so I’m able to get everything done. Yea wearing the mask isn’t ideal but it’s ok just a part of life right now! If you are looking for a safe gym to get back on the gym grind at this is the one. Also very affordable .

Prepare to have problems every time you want to use any station, dumbbell or whatever and you have to ask one of these black thugs to allow you to work there. This retro location is five starts. I just love the way it’s laid out. The theatre is well lit and just the right amount of space unlike other retro theaters. The topping on the sundae is that it has a sauna in the women’s locker. I’m not sure about the men’s locker room but I’m assuming it should have its sauna as well.

I enjoy lifting at Retro (Kenilworth location). It provides a great variety of exercising equipment, a clean facility, and a friendly staff. After trying 3 other locations, I can honestly say this is one of the best locations so far. I hardly see any damaged equipment in need of repair go more than 1 day without being fixed. They have multiple stations for the same workouts which beats waiting on an imaginary line to use a rack or bar. They noticed many people doing the Hip Thrust so purchased the machine for that workout. I love that machine! It is a very client centered gym. I also appreciate that they use fresh fruits to make their protein shakes although I have not tried one because of my keto diet so I am unable to review their shakes.

Absolutely loved this gym! I was in town visiting family so I hit this retro and it was a great workout!! Lots of free weights, powerlifting set ups and its huge! Has a nice open floor plan so even when it was busier at 5 to 6pm it felt open!! I would come here all the time if I lived closer! Staff is sooo friendly, the vibe and variety of people is awesome!

I've been a member since 2013 & overall I love this gym. My biggest issue is it's always too hot in the gym, the air is never on and no matter how many times I mentioned that to the staff they still don't turn it on. When you're just standing behind a desk you may not be hot but try working out in that heat. The huge ceiling fan is barely ever on too while the other half of the gym doesn't get any air flow.
Also the staff need to learn the supplements they sell to members.

Friendly staff, spacious movie room and a lot of equipment.The dry sauna is a plus too. Also love my trainer Tracy who is very professional. had 10 PT sections with her, different workouts each time and always learn something new. Noticeable results in just 2 months, already lost 3 percent body fat and all friends comment better shape than before. It is very encouraging since not going gym very often.

It's an okay gym. I like the movie workout room because I don't like people staring at me when I workout. I did run into an issue with the showers only producing cold water. Not a good way to start out my work day. People rarely clean off the machines that they were working out on. There needs to be signs up because common sense is not common.

It's an okay, basic gym. Nothing fancy or "state-of-the-art." Very few people clean-up after themselves or wipe down the equipment after dripping sweat all over.
Very little room for stretching and "non-machine" workouts. Don't go during peak hours or you'll have to modify your workout to something completely different. Lastly, a lot of "temporary, out-of-service" machines.

I love that this gym is clean and conveniently close to home. I just started using the treadmill and elliptical in the theater room which is awesome. I can watch a movie while I work out and it makes my work out time go quickly. There is so much more equipment at Retro Fitness to use so I’m working my way to it so I can make a more fit and in shape body.

I drive a shuttle bus and I'm here daily picking up people. When I go inside I'm always greeted cheerfully by the staff and see how happy the visitors are. An upbeat atmosphere always!
