Horrible I had a 3 day free pass from the retro fitness website and when I arrived they said I couldn’t use it because the owner doesn’t accept them and they were nasty and rude about it .I said it is what it is I just wanted to work out so I paid the day pass fee of 20$ … I even went back the next day then they told me to pay with a card it was 25$ even though they charged me 20$ the day before . On top of that it’s dirty and most the equipment is falling apart and rusted out don’t use this gym

These people are grifters. In order to cancel you have to send a physical letter or go in. I moved temporarily and froze my membership. But then my move became permanent and so I sent them a letter. Never heard anything. I’m still being charged. This is BS. Total grifters

Customer service was extremely rude and disrespectful to me. Whoever works the shift from 11AM-12PM on Friday should be immediately fired. I told them I had a free trial having mistakenly put Manawan instead of Manawaqen and she said “if your such a smart Alec then show me, show me.” I realized that I had put in the wrong place and she rudely asked me to leave.

Terrible customer service. I forgot my key tag and had to call the Lacey gym, which is fine. While on the phone with the other Retro I could over hear the female worker calling me names and making fun of me with some of the other members who were sitting at the bar. I am currently looking into filing a formal complaint with the business due to their derogatory comments. I have never had a problem at this gym before. I will not be using this gym anymore because of this reason. Very unprofessional.

This Retro is just okay. My biggest complaint is there’s no warm-up/cool-down/stretching/abdominal area. The front area to the side is the only space but it’s way too small of an area and packed with machines. People often walk over, get frustrated and walk away. Please reorganize it and free up some floor space. Get rid of or move the step equipment, rowing machines and the huge pulley weight machine (that is not the place for it, it’s away from all the other machines). Keep the ellipticals, ab machines, free weights, yoga mats. In general, there’s too much equipment in the gym and it’s all very close together. I don’t even mind too much that the machines are old. There are too many treadmills. They’re never all being used. It would be much better if you reorganized the place a bit, edited the equipment, cleaned a little better including the machines and yoga mats, and increased the air circulation (some days it's seriously rank in there and while I appreciate the doors being open to get fresh air, you know because of germs and all, it’s not enough and it’s often warm in there). The good things are the employees are nice, it's fairly priced, has all the equipment you need, people wipe down machines, it’s not a scene and it has pretty good hours (though should be open later on weekends). Used this gym over the summer. Staff is pretty friendly. Biggest complaint is the age of the equipment. Most of it works. But many of the numbers are fading away, the grips are wearing, and the treadmills still have the original iPod ports. A lot of it probably should have be replaced years ago. They stay open until 11:00 on weekdays, which is better than a lot of gyms, but midnight would be even better.
Update:
I had significant difficulty canceling my membership and was charged for an extra month. When I initially signed up, a staff member informed me I could cancel over the phone. However, when I called to cancel, I was told it had to be done in person. Since I was out of state and unable to cancel in person, they suggested I mail a letter, which I did. Despite this, I was still charged for the extra month. Overall, I found the process to be unethical and lacking in understanding. I would recommend looking into other gyms in the area.

Would give zero stars if I could. I have a premium membership so I can go to the gym wherever I travel and since I didn’t have my barcode they wouldn’t let me in the gym because it’s not my “home gym” and apparently shows my membership is cancelled but if you go on my account online it clearly shows my home gym is this one. Great service.

EDIT: I just got a check in notification when I got home and got 1 point. What a joke 🤣

Raised the price of their day pass from $10 to $20…which is the price for a month of membership! Equipment is not nice enough for that. Everything is old, yoga mats are falling apart, etc. I used to come every so often when I visit my family but at that price I won’t be returning.

This retro fitness is a no-nonsense gym, just a bunch of great members there to get their work in and not clog up machines and equipment. No selfie sticks, no ego lifters, nobody trying to pick up a date. And pretty much everyone respects the idea of wiping things down and put things back where they belong. It gets a little more packed in the summer when LBI picks up but they have great hours which allows you to avoid the crowds. And the staff is great, making sure the place stays in order and organized and so friendly as they greet you on the way in.

90$ for 2 weeks to lift here while I was on vacation. Workers at the front desk were laughing as they told us the price…. Keep in mind every other retro fitness location offers a 3 day pass for free. You’d think with this kind of rate they’d have a water bottle filler station… nope. Rinky drink water fountains pouring out warm water. The place hasn’t been updated in years and they charge 20$ a day to lift here. There were more machines out of order than I could count on one hand. Gym has no AC which I actually like to get a pump… but what are you paying for?!

The workers at this gym are the most dishonest people. They told us they were no longer offering childcare one day prior to the cancelling of the program; On the same day we went into the gym to cancel the membership as they were breaking the contract. They refused to give us something in writing and that it would be taken cared. The next day I noticed a yearly renewal fee being charge to my account. We went back to the gym and at this point they were playing games and that they were not refunding us. We decided to dispute the charge with the credit card but without any cancellation documents they were able to manipulate the dates for the charge. Very dishonest place, just go to retro and avoid situations like this.

I'm giving the Manahawin Retro a 10 because of our experience with the staff, especially our trainer Paul, he is amazing! He has a calm, friendly energy and is incredibly knowledgeable we just wish we would have worked with him earlier. I work in the integrative health field as a health coach and I am impressed with his knowledge of nutrition & weight loss concepts. We have also had a fantastic experience with Sherri who works the front desk, she helped us find the right gym plan that works for me & my husband-- she is very kind and down-to-earth. She also helps to encourage us every time we come to the gym (4 times a week) when she greets us & makes light conversation.

I Moved out of state and called to have my membership canceled and was hung up on. Even after explaining we had just gone through a devastating Hurricane and have no way of sending mail as there was no way of reaching a post office due to damage from the storm. Overall, I've been okay with my experience. I usually go to the Tuckerton location which I really like, but Manahawkin is closer and most of the time lately I have noticed at least one of the machines I've used is broken. I'm really happy with the nursery staff at both locations in the morning. This was my first time working out in the afternoon and I came to the Manahawkin location... Actually considered turning around and leaving because as I brought my kids into the nursery there were two older girls laying on the floor playing with ipads who didnt even look up. The person working the nursery came in behind us and didnt even introduce herself or say anything, had to ask if I was even there during the right time for child care. She was nice when we left, but I didn't stay very long because what we walked into left me feeling really uneasy. Won't be back in the afternoons, and kinda makes me want to look around when it's time to renew my membership. Childcare is a big deal for me and I can forgive a lot for confidence in that department.

One of the less comfortable gyms I've ever been to unfortunately. I was pleased that they offered month-to-month pricing for those who are working in the area in the summer (though at $50 a month, even that seemed hardly worth it), but man this place is dated. The equipment is old (Some of the ellipticals actually squeak and creak when you use them they're so old, and the weights look like they were salvaged from a sunken ship in the Atlantic), and dear Lord in Heaven I've never been to a more cramped gym. There is ZERO ability to get in your own zone - every piece of equipment is like 2 feet from another piece of equipment, and it's always packed.

Just read a story about how you kicked out a PAYING customer because they were privately praying for someone to feel better. Don't you and your employees have anything better to do..from all the terrible reviews I would say maybe worry about cleaning the place up instead of getting offended because someone "prayed" in the same bldg as you. All the equipment is very old and either broken or ghetto. It is also very dirty. Other retro gyms I see the staff constantly cleaning the equipment and floor, here I have never seen anyone clean. The free weight area is very cluttered. Although they recently took down the cardio theater for more space, it's still disgraceful for a retro. Was on vacation down in surf city had to find a gym nearby and this was the closest one. You cannot use a free guest pass unless you live within 5 miles or the gym.. Who ever heard of that. The lady was nasty she goes well we have day passes for 10 dollars I looked around the place and I passed on it dirty smelly rude workers... Dirty, smelly crowded, unorganized. They need to figure out a better way too arrange their equipment, and while they are at it, buy new equipment.
