Poorly maintained, multiple treadmills, which the gym has unnecessarily way too many anyways, do not function. There is dust on top of machines, bathrooms are usually uncleanly, with soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers that don't work. On top of the high annual fees that members are billed for, this gym has nothing but the basics. The few employees that are there are usually nice to the members, the gym isn't usually too full, and it has a good and friendly community of members, which is about everything good that this place has to offer.

I stopped going to this gym for a couple years now. After a year of giving them monthly payments, I finally called and spoke to someone at this gym to cancel my account. He said he would just suspend the account and feel free to come back whenever I want in the future to resume the membership. He said this would stop payment and there was nothing to worry about. A year later, I get a notice from a collection agency for past due payment and now my perfect credit went down 60 points. I called this gym and was told it was due to an expired card on my account. Why am I getting charged!? They said to put a current card on file and that this may fix the last due payment issue. It did not. Then you call the corporate number which was not helpful what so ever. This is not right

This gym is barely serviceable. Outside of the dedicated job that is done by the gentleman that opens the gym during the week, the remaining staff is subpar. Third instance in the last month that it doesn’t open on time. The bathrooms are NEVER cleaned. Same dead bugs and hair on the floors in the bathrooms and showers for weeks. The equipment layout makes no sense. There’s not enough free weights to go around when it is busy. Better off going to a different gym if you’re in the area.
UPDATE: second day in a row the gym in Manasquan did not open on time. Truly a poorly managed gym.

Gym is nice but as a person who likes to hit the gym in the moring then to shower at the gym n go straight to work .. walking into the men's shower and seeing Mold all over the shower floors and walls even the shower curtain has mold . Great gym, lots of cardio equipment, 4 squat racks, turf area for sled or walking lunges, and a good space to warm up in or do body weight exercises.

Everything is clean and it’s usually not to busy. Was really looking for a gym with a sauna but just couldn’t do LA fitness so busy all the time and the equipment here is much better. 4 stars just because I wish the locker room was a little nicer and that they had a sauna but overall a fantastic gym.

This Retro frequently has issues with not opening up on time in the morning; if you are an early riser to get into the gym to workout then please call this facility in advance to make sure they opened on time. Aside from the absolute bare minimum requirements given by the state (temperature check at the door and a face mask observed on one's person) NO physical enforcement of mask wearing policy on the premises. An embarrassing amount of members openly keeping masks below their nose, and even below their chin in many cases, making them completely ineffective. I have been a member of this retro for many years and remain a loyal member to this day. Over the years, I have seen new management/staff in and out of this location. Under some of the managers, the place was absolutely rocking. The staff right now is a joke (which is not their fault). Whoever is in charge, I’m not sure if it’s corporate or the individual owners of this location but there is absolutely no management or leadership here. There is always only 1 person behind the counter who can’t do 10 things at once, which isn’t fair to them. They’re all young and very nice but they’re all working at very minimum levels because they only know what they’re seeing other staff members do and what they’re being taught. Which again, isn’t their fault. I understand things are tight right now and maybe only one staff member is all you can afford to pay at the moment but things can be changed to improve this (from what I’m seeing as a member on the outside over the years). There has to be somebody in charge to point this staff in the right directions so things get done around there. There needs to be more cleaning (COVID or not!), have staff wear the correct Retro Fitness uniforms (not their regular clothes), more off their butts and reracking/organizing weights and equipment, and promoting smoothies/nutrition foods and drinks that are on the counter to bring in more sales. They need guidance and it’s not their fault that they are not provided the much needed resources of a leader and proper guidelines/protocols of being a staff member. I find myself cleaning up the equipment in certain areas of the gym quite often because things are left a MESS. I put weights, plates, bands, balls, etc, back where they belong because it would look the same or even worse than it did days earlier. This tells me when the gym closes, they shut the lights out, clock out and leave. No work is done beyond standing behind the counter. Only person I see trying her best to get things done is the young blonde girl but she can only do so much and I’m sure it’s overwhelming when no one else is lifting a finger. Also, on a different topic, what is the reason for no lockers or showers?? We’re all sharing gym equipment and touching each others sweat, spit, and other bodily fluids all over the equipment (it’s there no matter how much you clean it), why can’t I put my jacket and bag into a locker?? If it’s a social distancing issue than put a sign up that says “No more than 5 people in this area please.” I have gone to Planet Fitness and Jersey strong in Wall and BOTH clubs have their lockers completely open and Jersey strong even has their classes continuing. There is literally no logic or more importantly, science to this. If the gym is open, make all of the amenities open to the members. You’re not stopping the spread of anything by not allowing people to take showers and use the lockers. Anyway, it looks like this location is struggling in quite a few different areas and could be helped very easily with very simple fixes. I still give this gym 4 stars because I love it here and want to see it succeed through these COVID times so I don’t have to go to another gym but things need to change in order for this gym to make it. I’m no pro but I think my input should be taken into consideration. This retro needs LEADERSHIP and MANAGEMENT in PERSON. You can’t manage and improve a gym or most businesses at home on your computer. No more using COVID as an excuse. All it’s doing is creating laziness! Promote health and boosting the immune system to fight off illnesses and viruses like COVID-19! You should make that a huge thing and promote it because that itself is not stressed enough anywhere and it will make people want to come in which will bring more money in. Get the ball rolling again, give this location more attention, a face lift and make Retro Fitness of Wall great again!

Would give no stars if I could. What an absolutely unprofessional place this is. I had called them several months back because my account was frozen, and told them that I wanted to cancel. I spoke to someone on the phone who told me that they would be able to do this for me and I wouldn't need to come in, as I was uncomfortable doing so during the pandemic due to health concerns. They said it would be no problem and if there was an issue a manager would give me a call. Fast forward to now, and I've received TWO charges from them, one for the membership fee, and another for a random $50. I spoke to someone else on the phone, who was lovely and assured me she would cancel my account, so thank you to her. However, she also said I probably wouldn't be able to get my money back, which is absurd, given that I was assured my account was canceled in the first place. Also love how it seems like management isn't responding to any of these reviews on here about charging people unfairly. There are plenty of other options for fitness around here, so I would recommend finding somewhere else to go.

My home retro is in Lacey but I just moved to point pleasant beach and the wall retro is closest to me. I walked in and out was greeted by a “hi, how are you” by the woman behind the counter. I don’t think people realize how nice is to get greeted with such a simple question. I love this Retro location because of how friendly the staff is, the cleanliness, and the variety of equipment. I also appreciate the atmosphere there because everyone is there to work out and leave. The gym I came from is a bunch of juice heads and I feel like I’m being stared at with anything I do. I’m sad I’m going to have to move away in May! I also hope maybe if possible, this location will get a sauna

The televisions at Retro do not have the ABC, NBC or CBS stations. When I mentioned this to the woman at the desk she said the manager is on vacation this week and nothing can be done until he gets back. I asked who is in charge and apparently no one is. The last time there was a problem with the televisions it was more than a month until it was resolved. Someone should remind the owner that a Planet Fitness is coming to Wall soon and to hire more than a "warm body" to man the desk.

We’ve been members for over 5 years and have watched this gym turn into a filthy mess. The equipment has month’s worth of dust, dirt, road salt, grime and sweat. There is construction going on now resulting in sheetrock dust covering the equipment and floor. No plastic curtain was put up to contain the dust. This has been going on for about 4 weeks now and no one cleans it up. I believe the Health Department and OSHA would issue violations for putting members and employees at health risk. We’ll be looking for a new gym.

Visiting for the week and the staff was not understanding at ALL about how I already pay $45 a month for the VIP membership and had me pay $35 for the WEEK to "upgrade" to have childcare. It's okay. Not great. They have plenty of cardio equipment, but not a lot of floor space to work out. The free weight area can be a bit crowded. Another area would be beneficial. Their hours are convenient. However, the place is really dirty. The same "spots" (to be polite) are on the machines week after week. The dust on the light fixtures is about a 1/2 inch thick. The supply and return ducts of the AC system are disgusting. I guess you get what you pay for. I've been to other Retro's in better condition, but this one is gross.

Very very weak ab area. A lot of tool bags flock here with their water jugs, backwards hats, and self-cut -t-shirts.

On the bright side, they have a ton of cardio equipment and a solid free weight area.

This is an awesome, awesome gym, with EVERYTHING. It is spacious, clean, never crowded, great layout, and one of the best gyms I've ever been to. This is in my top 3 Retro Gyms along with Jackson and West Long Branch.

It is consistently 80-82 degrees inside this place. It makes working out unbearable. I would recommend joining someplace else.
