Rude and incompetent staff! Had to visit there 3 different times to cancel my membership. Apparently, there's a new manager there, Gina, who hires all of her friends. Machines are always broken with no notice on the machine. Took away all the good classes including a great yoga instructor Adnan. If you want a gym with a rude staff that brings their rude friends to work there, then this is it! All the "good" reviews here are probably from her friends. No wonder all of the Retros are closing down - they hire college kids who just stand around and talk. Pretty sure this will be the next one to close down. Been going to LA and what a difference! Do yourself a favor and take your money elsewhere.

Great gym. Been going here for nearly 4 years. Clean facilities and has all the equipment and room you need. Typically not crowded. Staff is friendly. Flex is awesome. Not many gyms have a boxing bag, which I appreciate. Stay away from the Indian guy in his early 30s who wears oversized shirts and has small calves.

Machines are often broken, I’ve encountered people using one machine with all their belongings on another. This is not preschool we’re not hogging toys. Everyone pays to use this gym. The machines are unoccupied unless someone is on it! Grown men should have better sense than this. Not so much the gyms problem but very irritating.

Staff is friendly, and the gym, while a little small, doesn't get huge lines for equipment even at peak hours. Equipment is decently maintained, and the equipment itself has a nice wide range available, like a Hack Squat machine, Smith Machine, Power Rack, Squat Rack, T-Bar row; I think the only type of machines it doesn't have is a Hip Thrust (though you can just use a Smith Machine and a bench).

I really like Retro Fitness there’s always equipment available when I come in the staff is awesome. They greet you at the door always nice and pleasant but I do want to add that there are a few exercise machines that do not work. They are not labeled. There’s nothing on them saying that they’re broke They should be removed or fixed. I’m not sure if anybody monitors this particular thing but I’ve been upstairs and downstairs and there is equipment that does not work and there’s no label on them. Other than that. It’s a great gym. It really is …nice equipment.

The men’s room is in serious need of maintenance. A few months back they finally replaced one of the two toilets which had been out of service for several months. That should have been rectified in a much shorter time! However, that same toilet has been loose for many weeks. The faucets are loose and don’t function well. The paper towel dispensers are jammed or malfunctioning. The floor is dirty. The stalls lack the proper amount of toilet paper.

It generally seems the staff don’t keep up on the men’s room to any degree. Other than to use the washing machine, I’ve never seen a staff member go into the men’s room to clean or do any sort of maintenance.

Gym is not clean and the sanitizer is water. Every time I leave feeling dirty no matter how much I use on the equipment. Also the GM is miserable, mean to customers and will probably call me to yell at me about this review. The only reason I keep my membership is because of Adnan the yoga instructor who is amazing.

I had joined Retro about 3 years ago. They offer great variety of classes with professional trainers. The classes I had attended really helped me reach my goal. The instructors I had the pleasure to get to know are:

1. 'Adnan Love' for yoga - had never done yoga before this but after his classes, I have improved so much. He keeps the class entertained with his positive vibes and jokes.❤️

2. Ishtvan (Ish) for bootcamp & cardio tai boxing - these classes made me sweat like crazy! He helps you set your goals and changes workout routine based of that. ❤️

3. Alisha for spin - I really enjoyed her classes. The music selections she plays really gets you pumped up all throughout the class duration. ❤️

4. Stacy for strength and core - This class is a killer! 45 mins of continuous dumbbell workout. She pays attention to everyone, in the class, to make sure your posture is correct. You will always see her smile and spreads her ❤️.

Hello All,
If you are in the Franklin/Kendall Park area, and North Brunswick this is the gym you should be going to. Staff is friendly and professional, equipment functions properly, and the gym manager Gina seems to really be making an effort as far as listening to members, and making small or major incremental changes to the gym. The gym is not huge, but it has all the necessary equipment to get a good pump (as my gymbros/gals may say). 10/10 gym pay it a visit and form your own opinion!

This gym has to be the most disgusting gym I've ever been to! All the machines have layers of dust. Upstairs has a few treadmill machines that doesn't work properly.

Gym was decent while I was able to go. Moved to another state mid contract so I was locked in for the rest of the year. I called in January to notify the gym of this move as to not auto-renew my membership.

Gina left me a voicemail about my cancellation 1/4/24, I assumed all was fine and that my payments would end in March. I noticed in the app I still had a payment for April but auto-renew was deactivated, so I called 3/28 to confirm it was cancelled and an employee confirmed the cancellation and that I wouldn’t be charged.

I followed up today as still saw the payment pending and was told that even though I didn’t renew for the year… because the cancellation was within 10 days of renewal I’d be charged for one month…

The first person I spoke to was nice and tried explaining the situation middle-manning the conversation for the manager Susan Green… she finally gets on the phone without introducing herself had the rudest and most disrespectful attitude telling me to read the contract and and that it’s not their problem. When I told her about her attitude she said “congratulations”. When I tried explaining I called earlier to cancel she disregarded the explanation entirely. When I asked her for her name she hung up the phone on me and I had to call back to get it.

Poor leadership, poor training, lack of communication to customers, and terrible customer service.

My fiance signed up for the promo they were running of the BOGO so she gifted me a free membership that was part of that deal. I went with her today to show her what she can do when I can't go with her. The lady that owns the facility came up to us and was very rude assuming I was her personal trainer and that I can't train her here. Long story short don't go here I don't even have to pay and I won't be going back. Has no clue about how to come up to her members and ask properly.

Called the gym earlier in the morning to find out what time they closed for the holiday. The guy tells me 2pm. I arrived at 12:58pm and the doors are locked already. Unprofessional, and it’s an hour before closing. Location always has had issues and always unprofessional and staff rude.

I love this gym! This Retro is big, has lots of equipment, and is CLEAN! Management makes repairs in a timely fashion and clearly takes pride in their gym. The only thing that could make it better is if the temperature were kept 5 degrees cooler than it is 😁. I would recommend this gym!

Love this Retro. They just started using reusable towels which yayyy planet. They work hard to keep it smelling good in the gym and to have steady air circulation. In addition, they always have little promotions to keep you engaged with the gym around different holidays. Lastly, there is a nice replenish station near the entrance/exit. With cucumber or strawberry in cold water, little oranges, and occasionally coffee. All in all, there is a real effort to create an experience and that goes a long way for me!

They have enough machines and it doesn’t get too crowded. But I don’t think they vacuum or clean the floors, especially in the classes/stretching room. I was doing floor stretches and got black dirt all over my shoes from the floor and mat (which is also covered in black dirt). The soap in the women’s room smells like a questionable home-made solution… I will update review if anything changes.

I cancelled my membership because I just paid annual fee which is $50 if I’m not wrong. I wanted to downgrade my plan after about two weeks due to not being able to use zumba classes. And they told me that I need to pay annual fee again because it’s got reset 😂 this is the most ridiculous policy I’ve ever seen. Funny thing is I was gonna bring 2 of my friends to this gym but thankfully this happened earlier than my recommendation to the friends.

Went to the gym tonight and 4 machines were broken . The girl who was on duty seem bothered by me telling g her and asking what's up with the equipment. When you need to workout on mat and need to see your position if it’s correct, there is no mirror in the class and areas that goes all the way down so I’m never sure I do my exercises correctly. All mirrors are half way so you only see half of your body. That way there is no point to go to gym because it’s the same when I do it at home. Out of that salon is good

I was impressed by this branch. Decent size facility. Free weight benches felt a little cramped but at least there were enough to go around. Clean. Lots of cardio room on second floor. When I went around 9am it was not overly crowded. The staff member I spoke with about membership was also very friendly and informative.

In lieu of COVID Masking policy took a break at this NBrunswick location and returned March 2022.
A dump of a gym-machines on floor that do not work ie.bike on floor 1 TV on treadmills broken -tread mills broken - and don’t come to the gym where outside temp is in 30’s cause inside area rooms like the ON DEMAND room is Freezing cold and cold throughout the gym .No one on weekends knows how to show patrons how to use machines and they don’t know how to use the thermostat to warm up the gym.Had to work out with my hat and gloves on-eventually left early because I was so cold and uncomfortable -
Receptionist found in a side room using their cell phone and said gym doesn’t turn up heat to save costs -So consumer beware of how your fees are being used .Oh and mirrors dirty in areaa across from theater room Unused Weights all over the place so be careful you don’t fall ! What a DUMPY gym.

It really is not necessary to wear a mask because everytime you enter the gym, you are screened. Your Temperature is checked and a health survey is filled out, so if everyone entering the gym is negative for covid, why is it necessary to wear a mask? Working out with your mask increases your CO2 intake, makes it harder to breathe, especially doing high intensity workouts. The people that are complaining about others not wearing a mask, you only live in fear and why are you worried about who is wearing a mask in the gym when you should be worried about your workout, proper form, and breathing technique. Obviously the mask is not allowing you to get optimum amounts of O2 yet it is allowed. It is not normal to wear a mask in these conditions. Plus people are always touching their mask so you're defeating the purpose of wearing a mask in the first place.

It’s a good gym overall. I do find that some of the equipment needs repair though. The squat rack seems to need a few screws tightened and one of the stationary bikes does not adjust resistance level when the buttons are pressed. But everything I need is there.
