Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The new machines are great and I love that I can hook up my Apple watch to the treadmills. It is also very clean, which is a big deal to me. My one negative is that there should be more TV channels available for viewing.

Clean facility, good group of people (members) the culture is very caring: people clean after themselves, rack the weights and in general are very supportive. Staff is excellent - the gym is basically spotless, all weights are where they belong upon opening. I want to give a shout out to Chris - thank you for the smile every morning and for checking if I took everything :)

This gym is poorly managed. It was closed down for a few months with minimal communication. My credit was charged while this establishment was closed. It is not adequately cleaned and has a smell to it. The staff is rude. A staff member yelled at me 10 minutes before closing and told me I was the last person in the gym. I would rather pay more money for a more professional environment.

Only major complaint which has now become a big annoyance for my wife and I is after a certain number of consecutive visits to another location other than the club you signed up at (Home location), the system is suppose to automatically switch your Home location for you, per Retro staff. Has not happened yet. No staff members at either Tenafly (signed up at) nor Hackensack (club frequented now for over 2 months @ 3 days/week) has offered efforts to investigate reason for this to remedy customer inconvenience in having to constantly key in tag barcode number in their iPAD. When staff is addressed about it, they all look at you as though you speak a foreign language and suggest remaining patient. Time for patience is now very low. Let's see if this gets some traction from Tenafly club manager/owner. I've also contacted Retro Fitness CEO via Linked In about it.

I was in town for just a night and wanted to find a place to work out. This location offered a free guest pass, so I took advantage of it to get my workout in. The gym looks small because it's not an open floor plan, but there is plenty of equipment for me to be able to do whatever I wanted without straying from my normal plan. Staff is nice, gym is clean.

Love this gym, been a member for a while now and I love how things are upgraded and people are super nice. I always rather come in the early morning since the flow of people does change throughout the day but theres everything and anything you need for a full workout. Yes the parking situation sometimes is not the best so just give yourself a few extra minutes to find parking but not a big deal at all. Very clean and professional.

Fairly solid gym.

New management has been great and has brought a fresh breath of air that was desperately needed.
Been at this Retro for 5 years and I have seen more changes and updates to this facility in the last 6 months than I have in all my time going.

However… Current issues plaguing this facility:

- lack of parking. It is incredibly difficult to find parking in the facility’s lot. I can’t blame the facility for this but it truly is a con.

- influx of new patrons. the gym is constantly overcrowded during the afternoon (4-8) and was never like this in the past. Even during later hours/closing hours, i have seen it still packed.

To add to this, there has been a hit towards proper gym etiquette and usage of the facility. I’ve seen patrons play with basketballs in the leg room. Deadlift then leave everything there to never return to clean up. Weights missing because they were taken and never re-racked. It is unfortunate to see

To my next point:

- I think the “exclusive” student pricing is doing some more harm than good. I know regulars who feel strongly towards this point as well. No offense to students trying to get their pumps in but a school weight room may be more suitable for some of these patrons :)))))

Something that’s irked me: i’ve asked a few times for months for a new hip thrust “pad” which feels like it’s fallen on deaf ears. This pad normally is lost and no longer holds via velcro. Might be nice to have some more.

Anyways enough of my complaining …
Its a good gym, getting better and better by the day just too damn crowded right now!!!

The staff is extremely disrespectful and unprofessional, especially the manager. He has deliberately gone out of his way to harass me and my friend for wearing tank tops, our water bottles, and even heaving breathing during a work out. It’s beyond absurd!!! I’ve been to 20 different retros and this one is the worst one by far due to staff and management. These people should not be managing a gym they should be getting therapy instead! While the Tenafly Retro is not the biggest or newest, it is a solid location if you want to go in and get a workout in. I recently joined Retro Fitness and took the ultimate package to have access to any Retro Fitness. I was running late to my usual 8 am class so I decided to take a detour to the Tenafly location for a later class.
As soon as I walked in, the lady at the front desk told me that I have to pay $5 for the class. At my exit, I told her that I would pay the $5 despite paying over $200 between training fees and membership at Retro every month.
I later learned that someone I know from a different location, has gone to the same location until recently and has never been charged the $5. It appears that there is a selective enforcement of the fee.

At the end-just my impression- the lady felt that she made a big mistake and didn’t want to take the five dollar or my card. I really enjoyed the class so I wouldn’t mind paying her the $5 and leave in good terms. However, I must say it was disconcerting.

Unless you are a member of that location you may be an unwelcome guest by the administration.

The manager, blonde lady (didn't get her name), needs major customer service training. She tried to tell me, another member, and 2 guests that we can't train at Tenafly because it's prime time (8:30am, gym was relatively empty) and space needs to be dedicated for Tenafly members, not Hackensack members. When I asked her to make an exception since we came all this way, she said we need to pay $10 per guest since they won't honor 'free guest' for non-Tenafly ultimate members (suddenly it's no longer about head count). When I then asked to have my membership canceled, she could not have been happier to hand it over to me. Moral of the story: don't join this location unless you enjoy being discriminated against.

I love Lori! She's great! Every time I've had an issue (which hasn't been too often), she's there with an understanding, never condescending attitude. She does her best to make sure everyone feels comfortable and welcome. She's done a great job with all of this mask silliness. The club is always clean, and bright! Retro Fitness in Tenafly, NJ has everything you want: tons of equipment which is easily accessed, a very friendly and helpful staff, great location and very reasonable prices. But what makes this gym different from others are the trainers, especially Randy who provides individual instruction, as well as classes, including "Forever Young" for older adults. She is an extraordinary professional, a teacher who is totally tuned into the interests and needs of her clients.
