So grateful to have SOMA MVMT in my life! Felt welcomed and part of the community from my first class. Love that no workout is ever the same, and doesn't need thinking/planning on my part. MC and Chas are so kind and helpful in explaining movements. Love that each session ends with breathing and a gratitude moment — such a positive start to my day. 🧡🩵💙

My husband has been going for years and loves the workouts and the community created there. I finally joined too and agree it’s a special place. Now one of our college aged daughters has started going too!

The vibe at SOMA MVMT is acceptance, discipline and motivation all mixed into one aura with gratitude as the foundation. I know that sounds like a lot for a small group fitness program, but I kid you not. The workouts are incredibly challenging, but you have the liberty to modify and choose your weight capacity. The team approach to the training allows for you to feel the collective effort of pushing past the limited mindset influenced by the state of the world and everyday responsibilities of being an adult. The flow of the class is different every time, but generally, we warm up and stretch out, we try out a series of stations and specific exercises and rotate through several times, go through the proper form for practice and then get to work. Some classes have two sets of this section, both with 3-4 movement stations. There are cardio machines to warm up and use, bikes, ski, rowing machines too. We end with some breath work to shift back into our nervous system’s parasympathetic state. We circle up briefly and reflect on what we’re grateful for as a group and set an intent for the day. It’s more than a gym, but it doesn’t have to be that deep. The weather is a go-to for many that share. The point is to not only target your muscle building training and increase the heart rate, it’s to actually connect with your heart and with others we may have otherwise walk past. The team of trainers themselves are walking examples of integrity and practicing what you preach, going over the movements, giving great individualized feedback and suggestions to those who could use it (like me). It’s been about 3 weeks now and I already am feeling stronger. I wish I had the courage to start sooner, but I’m grateful to show up and be shown the ropes, literally and figuratively, by such a welcoming and authentic group of individuals.

Wonderful spot and community. Going on week 3 on the New Year resolution and holding steady. Reasonable pace, coaches are very mindful of newbies with individualized advice on a continuous basis and remain attentive to individual members during the workouts. Class always ends in sharing what members are grateful for— a great way to start the day focusing on the positive while catching a breath after a very good workout. Overall peaceful environment, no drill sergeants.

SOMA MVMT has it all, challenging, creative and fun strength training and a supportive community to keep you motivated. These are the kind of workouts to keep you strong and mobile for the rest of your life. Ending the session with breath work and sharing gratitude/intention takes the class to a whole other level. The Steel Mace Flow class is not to be missed.

Highly highly recommend. I did there movement, breath work and cold plunge workshop. Very reasonable price and that’s without factoring in how amazing the coaches/owners (Chas and MC) are. Definitely going to be coming back again and again.

Fantastic gym. Excellent coaches & owners. Diverse, wonderful community of members. Varied offerings of training types / experiences, under one roof. Workouts as strenuous as you want to make them. A few minutes of breathing & expressing gratitude post-workout takes classes in a needed direction: away from typical gym experiences. 10/10

It’s hard for me to encompass my thoughts on this place into a few sentences. I’ve been a member for almost 6 years and have gotten so much out of it during that time. Their holistic approach to programming will work you out both physically and cognitively, while they maintain an inclusive space for members to grow into a community. If you’re looking for something different, definitely give it a try.

As someone who was never very athletic or found it easy learning new physical skills, SOMA MVMT has been amazing not only to build strength, endurance and mobility, but also the confidence to take on new physical challenges. I'm super grateful for every class and each instructor (especially Chas and MC!) whose thoughtful, dynamic and adaptive programming go beyond a workout to build a genuine sense of community. SOMA MVMT has really helped me learn what my body can do!

This is an amazing place. As an older athlete (mid 50s), I am very impressed with the foundation and methodology of Soma MVMT. It adverises low impact but the workouts are definitely "good" impact stretching, mobility-based strength and cardio - led by amazing instructors who walk their walk. I feel welcomed every time I walk in, and I leave feeling that I got a full workout, including a great cool down (so important!). I highly recommend this wonderful establishment.

I started coming here during the pandemic, and everyone was welcoming, especially MC and Chas. Soma MVMT stayed opened and adapted to the pandemic (cleaning, spacing us out, etc) which was reassuring. This is truly a great place for all fitness levels. There's a new workout everyday and care and attention is given to every member. This is my local neighborhood workout spot.

The coaches are great, the people of friendly and welcoming. I used to work out and was in great shape, fell off for a few years and have gained a lot of weight. Went to SOMA MVMT and it was welcoming, friendly and judgement free. Plus, the programming is hard but done in a way that does not leave you so sore you cannot move and not come back. I highly recommend it.

I’ve been coming here for more than 6 years and it’s not just a great place to get a good sweat, but a wonderful community. I’ve made some great connections and friendships. The Coaches are great at making adjustments to a workout (in case you have a bad back, knees or like me, sciatica). The workout mixes strength training using kettle bells, clubs, slam balls, mace and equipments such as rowers, bikes and ski-erg. There’s also your body weight.

They say you can’t buy heathy and the hour here is showing yourself your commitment to you.

Love this place! Chas is a consummate professional and just a great human being as well. You want someone with positive energy guiding your workouts.

The workouts are tough, but they are worth it and get easier. You really feel accomplished at the end and you’ll start to notice changes in your body’s functional strength and movement fairly soon. I can’t get the tough a week without at least one of these workouts. Going to move it up to multiple times a week soon!

I love SOMAMVMT! Chas and MC are great! I was hesitant before I joined because I always had back pains from being at a desk during the day and was worried that the classes will worsen my pain. To my surprise, few weeks in I noticed that SOMAMVMT classes are actually helping alleviating my back pain and my focus and energy have increased.

I joined Soma Mvmt after moving to Maplewood during the pandemic. Not only have Chas and MC gotten my pandemic weary body back into fighting shape, I found a community of like minded people that have become friends. I've never been this fit or felt this good about my body, and I fully credit Chas and MC for getting me in the best shape of my life.

I joined SOMA MVMT during the pandemic when I was looking for fitness classes that met outside. I thought I'd return to my old kickboxing workouts when the gyms reopened, but after a year of working out with the SOMA MVMT team, I am totally hooked! The coaches are great and the workouts are challenging. I love that every day is different and there is a focus on balancing strength and cardio. You also get access to the app, which gives you a daily workout if you can't make it to the studio. Highly recommend!

I joined this gym in October of 2018 and I've loved being a part of this community. Great coaching with really practical feedback as well as very intentional programming are the reasons I keep coming back. I've met some great people here and coming to class is always so much fun! I can’t say enough good things about Crossfit Maplewood and the fantastic coaches there. If you’re a seasoned vet or completely new to Crossfit, as I was, this is an ideal community. The coaches are knowledgeable, patient, and really help you feel comfortable in a new environment and the members are supportive and fun. From your first day at Crossfit Maplewood, you can tell that people love to be there.

The workouts are also some of the best you’ll ever have. You’ll see results and conquer challenges that may have seemed impossible. With the awesome people, great coaching, and killer workouts, fitness is a given. It’s also a perfect environment to build confidence and challenge yourself. I can’t recommend this place enough.

I joined Maplewood Crossfit in mid June of 2017 and the experience has been amazing. I was welcomed and encouraged immediately by the entire group, despite my feelings of complete inadequacy in my level of fitness and knowledge of almost every exercise (I’ve almost never used weights or “lifted” in my entire life). I was also enabled to go at my own pace to properly learn the movements (still learning) as well as not over extend myself leading to an injury and extinguishing any chance of staying on track.

After my first 5 weeks I was down 10lbs and 3% body fat. Then my work travel had begun to pickup again and this time I was finding it easier to mimic the cleaner and leaner meals as well as working out daily. After my 2 month program had expired I continued (and still do to this day) to attend CrossFit classes to 3-4 days a week as well as ordering lunch and dinner 5 days a week (I shortly thereafter switched to medium as it was more than enough). After that, I stopped weighing myself as it became less of a focus. I began feeling healthier, stronger and most importantly, fitting into my clothes again. Its been 4 months now since I began my CrossFit and KettleBell program. I ran my first 5k in over a year and was only 90 seconds off my previous years time. I’m seeing continued improvement in my strength and form in my workouts (unassisted pull ups, heavier lifting, faster WOD times and I’m so close in T2B I can taste it). I’m back to fitting in most of my old clothes. The bloating, stomachaches, chest pains and feeling winded after running for 30 feet are gone. I’m down 40lbs (180bs). That’s still heavier than where I was a year ago however I feel the strongest I’ve felt in a long time and know as I continue with my approach I can reach my goal.

Chas and Kris are amazing coaches and even better guys. When choosing a CrossFit box you want instructors that teach mechanics, consistency, and intensity, in that order - and that's exactly what they subscribe to here. After three years at CrossFit Maplewood, sweating next to the welcoming faces old and new, both members and trainers, I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of camaraderie and community. Do yourself a favor and give CFM a try, it'll change your life.

I've been a member here for over a year and couldn't be happier to train at Crossfit Maplewood. It's a smaller Crossfit box with an extremely committed group of inspiring athletes and an excellent coach in Chas. The 6AM is the most crowded class, but you won't feel ignored or left behind if you're new no matter when you come. I get a chance to travel to other boxes in the country pretty often, and I'd stack CFM right alongside them. It's a great place to work out!
