Route setting can make or break climbing gym and the setting at this facility is FANTASTIC. Despite having a gym significantly closer to my house, I will often drive the 2 hours to this gym because the climbing is that much better. On top of that, the staff is wonderful and makes me feel part of a community whenever I am here.

The Gravity Vault in Flemington is easily one of the best climbing gyms in New Jersey. The routes are always fresh and creative, the facility is spotless, and the atmosphere is super welcoming for climbers of all levels.

A special shoutout to Lars. He’s an incredible employee who genuinely makes the experience better every time. Whether it’s offering helpful tips, keeping things organized, or just bringing great energy to the gym, Lars always goes above and beyond. You can tell he really cares about the climbers and makes everyone feel welcome.

If you’re new to climbing or just looking for a motivating place to train, Flemington Gravity Vault (and Lars) won’t disappoint. Highly recommend.

It was my first time here tonight was greeted by Julia and Erin who were absolutely amazing. They were kind, helpful, funny, upbeat and really set a great vibe!! They even encouraged me and it made me feel good cause I was soooo nervous! They got me the shoes and harness and I was ready to go. Had a blast climbing the walls for my first time the other staff were friendly and great to be around it was neat watching everyone climb some of the craziest obstacles. Facility was clean and organized, everyone was so kind. There are lockers and cubby’s to put your belongings in. The thing I appreciated the most was they made me feel safe and relaxed which me helped tremendously. 10/10 will DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!!! Thank you again Julia and Erin!!!!! Also props to Bill who guided me through every single step and encouraged me to face my fears yet kept me safe and made me feel comfortable! I appreciate you and the group for the encouragement and kind words!!

Cool gym. I'm very much a beginner and really liked it here. One thing I though was strange was needed to be auto belay certified. At my home gym you don't need that. All you need to do is show you can tie the couple knots but still. So I only bouldered.

The bouldering here feels very dangerous, even at the easiest difficulty. There are many situations where the footing or the hand holds feel slippery and sometimes unctomfortable. I always feel like im one slip away from an injury. The last move is also usually the riskiest and the mats are hard so i wouldnt feel safe falling from the top. I used to really like the bouldering here but maybe they changed setters cuz it is not the same. This place used to have really great and creative bouldering, but no longer. Very sad

Decent facility (when maintained; the one urinal in the men’s bathroom has been broken for half a year and running). The staff is nice! The bouldering setting is often comically bad. The rope setting is often ok. The steepest rope climbing wall seems to only get reset twice a year. The spray wall somehow was set as to be useless. Holds throughout the gym are often missing set screws which leads to dangerously spinning holds. Could be really nice!

FUN CREATIVE SETTING!!!
I have been climbing in the tristate area for over 10 years and have climbed at most of the gyms in it. I climb at many of the gyms in NJ and NY on a monthly basis Method, Goat, GV Montclair, GP81, vital, BPB to name a few. GV Flemington is definitely top three climbing gyms in NJ probably top 5 in the tristate as far as route setting goes. The setting is consistent, thoughtful and creative at all levels and for all sizes of climbers (I’m 5’4”) Whether it’s ropes or boulders you can tell the setters are experienced and they care. There is a lot of attention to detail from movement to aesthetics. There is a nice balance of types of holds, volumes and varying terrain as well as a balance in styles of climbing from powerful to delicate and technical, really something for everyone. The climbs are more often than not, comfortable but still challenging even as you go up in the grades and difficulty. which at most gyms my experience is a harder climb equals smaller holds and bigger moves. Whenever I’m at GV Flemington I always see the setters putting up new climbs. The facility itself offers an ok by todays standards training area. Tension 1 board, large spray wall that could use a reset, a moon board, and some weight equipment (bench/squat rack/KBs/DBs ect). Other than that though nothing spectacular or special. Pretty standard bathrooms and cubby’s to store personal items. The route setting and the staff are what make this gym shine. Thanks to the Owner, staff and setters for creating a cool gym and climbing experience for local climbers.

This gym is freaking awesome!
I climb anywhere between V3-V6 and 5.10-5.12 (depending on the style of route) and this gym is great! I've tried other gyms in the area and this is by far the best. There is always something new to climb and the routes are all really cool and different. I've been to some gyms which must just be for super strong climbers, and I'm happy that here I can work (or at least try) the majority of the problems which is really nice! I am a bit weaker in the shoulders (only in the past few months did I do my first real pullup) so whoever is setting is doing a great job of balancing technique and difficulty (although there are definitely lots of tougher problems I can't climb yet, but I'm trying)! They also have a bunch of different types of climbs which is super cool and weren't at the other gyms I've been to.
I often climb alone and the environment is great and really friendly. There aren't kids flying around in dangerous places (they have their own areas, or when they are in the main sections are usually being watched by staff or parents which is so much safer than in other gyms I've been to) and the staff is so nice! Any time I have a question about a route they are really nice about it, even going so far to find someone who has climbed the route so they can give me beta/advice when I need it. The other climbers who I see climbing are usually really nice and friendly too.
I'm really happy with the routes and gym and it seems other people are too! I always see groups coming in for parties, or get togethers, and everyone seems to be having a great time. Especially for new climbers there are lots of easier problems to try that are fun and not too scary (which is great for the friends who I bring climbing). So the people making the routes are doing a great job of making things fun for everyone! Totally check this gym out!

This gym is absolutely phenomenal!
I have climbed in gyms all across the country and in Europe and Gravity Vault Flemington is up there with the best of the best. A fantastic surprise for when I moved here from out of the state, for I wasn’t expecting a good gym within driving distance. The setting is actually significantly better than the gyms I was climbing in before (large gyms with multiple locations). So I drive 45 minutes from PA in order to go to this gym multiple times a week although there are gyms that are closer in Philly. The setting and environment are just leaps and bounds better.
The rope and lead climbing zone it’s a really big area with lots of routes. If you like auto belays they switch up the auto belays often so you can climb not only different routes but in different areas. Every time I’m in the gym they are usually resetting something in the rope area (and I’m there a lot) which is the highest turnover I’ve seen for rope in the gyms I’ve climbed at regularly. The rope and lead routes I have climbed have been really fun and interesting, and the setters do an amazing job of balancing routes to be in multiple styles of climbing and pay attention to the needs and abilities of climbers. I am quite flexible and have been known to cheat my way through sections of harder problems that have bad setting by crimping a foot chip here. But the setters are fantastic at really forcing a certain sequence and I find it hard to find alternate beta (and am then challenged to try moves I normally would try and work around, which is great for improving my climbing).
For the bouldering (which is my main area) I’m never ever bored with routes because they reset large areas each week, and last winter they were setting twice a week. The routes are phenomenal and even really gorgeous to look at (instead of just a nasty spray or clutter you see at some gyms, even if the setting is still good it’s just not as nice to stare at while you’re trying to solve a problem and can be harder to follow your line). There are several big overhang sections, and even a slab section (yay!) and I always can find a fun project in each area that is challenging enough to push me a little further in my climbing. The setters are always changing things up and recently they’ve started setting some beginner coordination routes to which I am SO grateful for. So I think the setters must be listening to the needs of the climbers in their gym, or are seeking to solve problems they see amongst their climbers with their setting.
The setters really think about people who are weaker and the challenges of making problems equal for all (I climb with a friend who is well above 6 feet sometimes and we both struggle on the same problems although I am only 5’7", and I've seen shorter people cruise the same problem). They are great at guiding new climbers to learn different styles of climbing in their routes and I’ve seen everything from complicated coordination routes to fun and goofy slab, to crack climbing, and they do a fantastic job with all of them. I am never ever bored!
They just recently started a new grading system that uses V grade ranges and I am thrilled! I hate it when gyms use colors because I always forget the range or have to go and check the charts. The new grading system is great and confirmed what I always thought, which is that the grading is similar to what is found in the South and up the East Coast, which is great because I hate it when gyms soften the grading! I want my gyms to reflect what is outdoors, or if not at least be similar to other good gyms out there. So I’m happy to say the grading is on-point!
Climbers, gym staff, and setters are all exceptionally friendly and although I have not climbed at this gym for too long I always feel welcome and seem to make a new friend every time I walk in. I’m happy that this gets to be my regular gym! It’s absolutely worth the drive out to climb there and I recommend it to anyone who loves climbing or is interested in trying!

The bouldering settings at this gym are extremely unfriendly to short ppl (at least for V2-V4 range). Most of these problems include an intended beta that’s just within reach for a regular size guy. And there’s a lack of (if at all) attempts to add extra holds to accommodate different sizes of climbers.
The settings for beginners’ problems are quite monotone. I think they are doing better on quantities (there used to be really few problems under V2 but there’s more of them recently), but most of them feel like various ladder climbs with the only challenges being slopier holds, steeper angle etc.

I used to blame it on myself for not being a good enough climber until: 1) I made trips to other gyms around the tri-state areas and man those were some refreshing experiences; 2) I came here with a friend that’s of similar size as me, who projects 13C outdoor, and saw her struggle on some of the V3s / V4s because the intended beta was out of reach, and I realize I’m only going to enjoy myself to a very limited amount here even if one day I become a much better climber than I am right now.

I’m not saying this is not a good gym - you will probably enjoy yourself if you’re over 5’7’’ (or just looking to do some ropes). But if you’re short like me with a negative ape index, and especially as a beginner climber who wants to have fun on boulders, you’d have more luck elsewhere.

Flemington Gravity Vault really needs to improve the bouldering routes in the V3-V5 range, there are climbs that require extraordinarily sketchy jumps that even a 6 footer would find difficult - not sure who is setting these routes whether they are showing off / big ego but it substantially decreases the attractiveness of this gym location and bouldering area to climbers.

Probably explains why bouldering area isn’t very full on most days.

What's going on with the route setting? Since the competition more than a month ago, there is almost no new route set. There is a bunch of anchor with only 1 route, missing quickdraws , the beast is missing half of the usual routes and in the last 3 weeks we only got 6 new routes.

Competition should not be at the expense of normal customers

The gym is well maintained and has a good variety of top rope, lead, and bouldering. Upstairs there's a tension board, moon board, and some workout equipment. The gym is grigri only (no ATC). My only critiques would be that there was a lack of crimpy/balance-y routes and that, compared to other gyms, this one lacked an open community/most people seemed to stick with their folk(s) only.

My daughter and I had a great time! I was able to test out of the belay class from prior experience climbing elsewhere. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We went on a Friday night which is a discount night, so I was a little worried it would be crowded and we'd have to wait for ropes to open up or be rushed. There were plenty of friendly people there but it wasn't crowded and we had lots of choices for where to climb. My 6 year old can't wait to return next time we're in town!

Excellent! It's been a while since I climbed last, and this place was a great reintroduction. Friendly and helpful staff, good rental equipment, and well maintained walls. Even the fellow climbers were super nice which was refreshing. Noticed dates on some of the routes and was told that they keep changing the routes to keep the climbs fresh. Definitely will be coming back.

Update: after 6 months and visiting a number of Gravity Vault locations, this is our favorite. Both the staff and fellow climbers are very nice here. We've gotten the climbing bug and come here multiple times a week. All problems (top rope and bouldering) are constantly in rotation, so it never gets dull.

My only two wishes:

1. more "slab" problems (both top rope and bouldering). There's is an extensive kid area which I don't see being fully utilized. Perhaps this could be made into additional bouldering walls.

2. Hard ask, but I wish there was an arch or chimney feature. Brick, Middletown, Hoboken, and Melville NY have this and it adds a whole new element.

Update: I was able to get ahold of management via email, and after explaining the situation in detail, they extended my month membership to compensate for the time the climbing wouldn't be available. The manager was courteous and helpful, but did feel the need to tell me that normally they would have to abide by their policy, and that this was an exception.

Buyer beware. They do not care about their customers here. They charged me $110 for a month membership, but didn't warn me that they would have no climbing available for two weeks of that month. When I asked them to freeze my membership or extend my month by the time I would not be able to climb due to their circumstances, they were unwilling to help me in any way whatsoever. They wouldn't even give me my $5 back for the shoes I had literally just rented before I saw the walls. Take a look at the pictures I just took.

In the Central Jersey area, this is the best facility out of the Gravity Vaults.

For the serious climber, the facility has multiple systems boards, a spray wall, interchangeable hangboards, weight gym with enough weights for you to train with, and various other fitness equipment. The walls have a variety of angles and not many of the gimmicky angles. The setting is also excellent with a great selection of quality holds.

For the newer climbers, people trying to just have fun or exercise, and more serious climbers trying to build endurance there’s a large bouldering area and an excellent top/lead rope wall.

The staff are also extremely helpful and have accommodated my needs any time I have asked for help or for an accommodation that they can give. As a medical student, my studies are my priority so when I asked if I could set up a little study spot the staff were more than accommodating in giving me a closed off quiet room with a comfortable chair and table to study.

Overall, an excellent climbing gym

My family of five (2 adults, one teen and 2 kids) signed up for an intro session to indoor rock climbing to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our belayer was very sweet but 1. Never asked our names, 2. Never showed interest in why we had signed up and 3. Never gave us tips on climbing or any instruction (besides telling us we could make it harder by choosing one color to climb up). The point was to learn a bit about indoor rock climbing. At times it seemed she really wanted to be anywhere else. My youngest was scared and twice she suggested some tips which helped him but that's it. Otherwise she was quiet. It fell very short of the experience we wanted.

Pretty solid set up, I like how the Boulder section is all on the first floor. I like that the kids walls are all almost exclusively off the side so the children aren’t running around the whole gym. They seem to set more difficult climbs down in the lower section, we had brought a beginner friend and once we moved down below she really couldn’t climb much at all. The exercise area is really solid too, lots of space and options. Their treadmill is very strange though, did not feel solid on it.

I love climbing at GV Flemington. Their bouldering section is pretty large. They tend to focus on power moves, and highly technical routes, as opposed to other GVs that have more crimpy climbs. They have 40' top rope and lead walls, and shorter top rope sections for beginners as well. Very friendly staff (who are also EXCELLENT climbers themselves). Which makes an overall fantastic environment and experience. I've been climbing here for over 2 years now.

Been going here a year 2-3 times a week. They literally reset 10-20 climbs a week. Got to sleep there one time in a hurricane Ida. The staff are always amazing. I drive 45min 1-way and never regret it.

Excellent facility, and really kind staff!

We came here specifically to use the 5 auto belays. We didn't know until we got there that guests are required to pass the full belay test in order to use the auto belays. Doesn't make sense, since not having someone on belay is the entire purpose of auto belays. Disappointing that we didn't get to use them after making a special trip.

Bouldering area was quite tall, and had many routes, so we did okay with that.

Lots of walls, routes, and levels to climb on. Basically an adult jungle gym. Good prices for a day pass + rentals. Would recommend.

First off, I want to say that the employees here are fantastic. They were extremely helpful with everything, letting me know which days had special deals, what equipment was recommended and why, which courses were easy and which courses were hard, and even gave a demonstration on how to properly and safely climb or fall. They definitely went above and beyond my expectations so kudos to them.

The facility was extremely clean and well organized. I had a blast climbing for a couple hours. All of the other customers were great people, and very helpful to a beginner like myself. The place has a very friendly atmosphere to it, which was refreshing. It's recommended to schedule a climbing time online ahead of coming in due to covid restrictions, but if they can accommodate you, they'll allow walk-ins. All the pricing was reasonable and they have water and snacks for sale if you forgot your own. Overall it's a great place for adults, teens, and kids, and I will most definitely be back!

Has to be one of the best climbing gyms in NJ. Tons of space, big walls, super friendly staff. They're handling the pandemic really well with tons of sanitizing stations, everyone wearing masks, and reservations to keep the numbers down. Always feel safe when climbing here. They even open the back garage doors sometimes which let's a nice breeze in.

Also, not that it matters too much, but I've never been disappointed by the music they play. Seriously, whoever runs the music here has fantastic taste in music.

I’m giving this place half stars only because of the price. It’s wayyyyyy too expensive considering what they offer. No student promotions hurts too. This place is very nice but you can find something similar for $10 to $20 less. Also it seemed to be more busy and crowded than other climbing gyms I’ve been to.

Love climbing here! So many great bouldering problems and they are always switching it up. Lots of space to climb without bumping into other people. Friendly staff and with Covid-19 precautions, it still feels like the same gravity vault, just with masks!

GV Flemington is one of the best NJ gyms. Its walls are some of the tallest and the route-setting is usually pretty thoughtful. It's a very big gym. The management is cool and every Friday is a 50% off ladies night. There might be other deals too. Most of the routes are overhung, so get ready for some serious pump. There is a particularly overhung wall that is lead only, but pretty much any route can be led. It can get busy. There are also lots of kid- and beginner-friendly route options and shorter walls as well. The bouldering area is huge. Great gym.

When I first walked through the door March of 2019 I instantly fell in love. So much space for bouldering, staff is friendly and helpful and they have the second floor for weights and pull up station. Best rock climbing gym in all of hunterdon and Mercer county. New Paltz facility is great too btw
