Someone please open another gym in the area so that we can all stop using this garbage climbing gym. Every time you walk in, they will have huge sections of wall empty, or you try to use the exercise room and they tell you itβs βclosedβ for a 3 person class, not to mention zero communication about closures. And letβs not talk about the actual route setting, which lacks any creativity.
The response to this review is absolute gold. If Planet Fitness had to close for five days for renovations would they expect their members to find out through their social media platforms? ππ€¦π»ββοΈ

Fantastic experience for a beginner climber!
Bought my first pair of shoes hereβthe service was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable visit.
The Gravity Vault in Montclair is on par if not better than other local gyms such as Method in Newark, and that's not even considering the space of the facility solely dedicated to bouldering. The memberships are a little on the pricier side but the cost is absolutely worth it!
All things considered, I would highly recommened checking this gym out! It's definitely my favorite and I am proud to be making it my climbing home.

We spend a lot of time here - my kiddo is on the climbing team, takes individual lessons, and also participates in the camps (summer, schools-out) occasionally. I absolutely love it here. The staff is excellent - knowledgeable & passionate about climbing and great with kids, and they have fostered an encouraging, non-judgmental and inclusive community. I honestly feel grateful every time we come (and we come often!).

They hosted a U13 Championship (brilliant idea), and it was perfect in every way. The communication in advance was impeccable, the setting brilliant and thoughtful, and everyone that worked there was SO nice and friendly. The facilities were also spotless and clearly well-cared for . . . the people of Montclair are lucky to have such a gem!

I went here for my first time ever climbing and it was a really good experience. The staff and all the members are super nice. The gym is also very well maintained and they are constantly changing the walls. Definitely recommend!

Bouldering only!! The staff is always super friendly and helpful, and the routes are fun and challenging (sometimes the grades are a little wacky but hey). There is also a decent gym section and fitness classes, so you're getting more for your money than just the climbing. Would recommend!

First thing to say is this gym is ONLY BOULDERING.
Just make sure you know this beforehand so you arenβt disappointed and bring a harness to the gym. But when you are aware that it is an only bouldering gym, you realize itβs really good for what it does. Thereβs a really cool comp wall, a 45 degree overhang, an arch section, slab, and everything in between. Overall a great gym that Iβd love to come to again.

Reasonable bouldering gym. Route setting is consistent with many other indoor gyms.
Flooring baffles aren't spaced well relative to climbs, so you may snag an ankle on a fall

Gym is great I love it. Music is varied, routes are good, gym is modern and clean, staff is nice and helpful.
Setting feels comp style lately - lots of big slopers and dynos. Would love to see a mix of comp and outdoor style moves.
The workout area has everything needed, many options on campus/hang board, and Kilter/Moon boards are always there for you!!
Looking forward to joining in on the events and yoga classes.

This is a great rock climbing gym. Everyone is very friendly there. One of the workers (Julia) patiently helped me to pick out the shoes that I would need when I decided to purchase my own instead of renting. She gave me great advice when it came to the best type of shoe for beginners, chalk, and bag to buy.
There are plenty of problems to climb at this gym. If you're a beginner, you have plenty of safe, fun options when it comes to climbing (VB, V0, V1) There is a small gym with equipment that you can use to warm up before climbing or to just get in a workout ( It has a treadmill, elliptical machine, mats, kettle bells, bosu ball, pull-up bar, etc). The people who work there clean everything thoroughly. The bathrooms are never dirty.
Your day pass can be used throughout the same day it is purchased, and you have access to the classes offered that day. Shoe rentals are only $5 and renting a chalk bag will only cost you $3.

I just got my monthly membership here. The nice thing is if you are from out of town this is a franchise and it will carry over. Excellent facility for the boulderers. No top rope or lead wall. Fitness room well stocked, campus boards, exchanging finger boards, kilter board, moon board, programs for all levels, private training, public events, couches like you'd expect, and a down home, kid friendly, upper middle class oriented neighborhood franchise climbing gym and that is not a dig in any way. Really loving the place. Afferscool programs for the kids, teens/tweens oriented classes, etc. Excellent and professional staff. Clean!

Ridiculously expensive. You pay 1/3rd of this in Europe. Note that Wednesdays are half priced for students and Friday after 5 pm as well. This is not mentioned on their website or instagram, we found just from asking while we were already there. Chalk bags could use a little more chalk.

I had my daughter's 8th birthday here and the kids had a blast playing the interactive climbing games in a private party room. The staff was super friendly and helpful taking care of the kids and the party details. I would definitely recommend, and I am now interested in sending me kids back to take classes now since the place seemed so impressive.

Really friendly crew! The routes had really good range and there were so many to choose from. Itβs bouldering only as they state which gives them plenty of room for routes.

Lots of routes & nice weightlifting/fitness area. Iβm beginner/intermediate so I feel like there are a lot of options for me. Only downsides are the routes donβt get changed out often and I once saw a kids birthday party allow the kids to climb in their OUTDOOR shoes which is kind of gross considering I touch those holds with my hands and hang out on the mats.

Pretty good, make sure you have the right shoes otherwise you will have to rent. It's not for small kids.

My favorite rock climbing gym in NJ. The locals in the gym are friendly and helpful. There's a lot of great food options around in the area. The only downside is the parking, there are days where it's easy to find parking and there are days where paying an extra fee at a parking deck is maybe justifiable. (depending how much you wanna walk)

I'm editing my review. I'm an old school trad climber and my son has been climbing since he could walk. Our attic is covered floor to ceiling in bouldering problems and he regularly sets them himself (with some help).
We were really excited to try out this location and it looked like everywhere said 5 was fine for climbing. We got there and were told he needed to be 7+. Needless to say, I wasn't happy.
The same day I got a call from Kevin (manager) and we talked for a good while. I have to say, as someone who has climbed for two decades all over the world there's a certain helpfulness and compassion I have learned to love about our community and I feel like Kevin projected that.
He problem solved the situation with me and I'm really appreciative of the attention.
As a note, 5 is fine for classes and for one on ones. They have updated their info on their site.

Great new addition to the GV family! Located in downtown Montclair and free 3 hour parking in the garage next door (validated parking). Love the thick mats, new holds and varied range and types of bouldering problems!

Wahhhh GV I'm so jealous I didn't start a gym sooner. This GV is sooo nice, a bouldering only gym with tons of fun climbs. The setting is particularly really good here and can tell they really put some amazing stuff together.
It's open to the public in Aug for their grand opening. Parking is a bit tough but there's several garages nearby, hoping GV eventually gets validated parking for the garage.
I think they said 120 routes. They even have a regular workout gym area and a fun climbing game room. And the mats i wish were in all GV's these mats i feel the safest. I'd make this my main gym if it was closer to me.
