I love The Lift Gym. I’ve been going here for 12+ years because I don’t have to create my own workout. The workouts vary each day from cardio, lower body, upper body, strength, and agility. Matt and Kathy Jennings have built a team of coaches that are knowledgeable, personal, and fun!! Because of the close community atmosphere of The Lift Gym I can honestly say that I have met some of my best friends from becoming a member. If your goal is to get your heart rate up, sweat, feel stronger, and do something for yourself then I highly recommend giving The Lift Gym a try!!! I think they even offer a free trial period!!! Maybe it’s time to invest in yourself!!!

I joined The Lift Gym several years ago and have been consistently impressed. As a former gym owner in upstate NY, I maintain high standards and expectations for trainers. One of the most notable challenges in the fitness industry is motivating members effectively, and this team excels in that regard.
I have been a member of several gyms in the area and although I am trained with proper training methods, I often left the gym without completing my workout due to my lack of motivation. At The Lift Gym, once I arrive, they take over. The team provides motivation, guidance and oversight. I experience intermittent back issues and the trainers regularly provide alternative exercises for activities that I am unable to perform.
The workouts are succinct and do not extend over lengthy periods of time. These sessions are concise and carefully designed to maximize efficiency, ensuring participants receive a comprehensive and balanced workout.
Finally, The Lift Gym offers members valuable opportunities for networking and building new relationships. The gym actively engages with the surrounding communities and has developed its own supportive community fostering both a positive atmosphere and an effective space for exercise.

Its been over a year since I joined so here is my new review:
In July 2024, at 54 years old, I decided to invest in myself and join a gym. Not just any gym. I needed a place to teach me what I needed to do and how to do it properly. After reading reviews from my neighbors and friends I decided to give the Lift gym in Point Pleasant a try.
Prior to joining the Lift, I had been struggling with low back pain with nerve pain in my legs. I had gained weight from becoming sedentary. I had been through PT, epidurals, several rounds of prednisone, gabapentin, tramadol, regular chiropractic care only to become frustrated with the state of my body and mind. I couldn’t think on the medication they prescribed and my pain and nerve issues just continued. I was told to have surgery. I did not want to have surgery.
I joined the small gym at the Lift and was able to have a coach guide me and encourage me through weight training exercises (thank you Matt V!!). After several months getting stronger and more competent at lifting and weight training I made the leap into the large gym(which always looked very intimidating to me). It turns out it was an easy transition and everyone in the gym was super helpful and motivating. Every day a new workout is posted to the board which was easy to follow. The class coach goes over each exercise and demonstrates proper form. A warm up is posted to do prior to the workout.
Over time I began to notice less and less back pain. Less nerve pain. I stopped taking medication for this. I noticed I seemed to be standing/walking taller because prior to getting stronger I felt like I was always tilting forward when I walked/stood. I am not saying my back pain is gone. Stronger glutes, legs, back - All support the spine. Now at 55 I dont expect this pain to ever be absent. But getting stronger at the Lift has CHANGED my life. I can do my everyday tasks without being in exhausting pain. I can enjoy doing the gardening, playing pickle ball, volleyball, walking my dog, skiing, having the stamina to keep up with everyday chores. The coaches and owners care about your well being and want you to succeed. There are workout times throughout the day starting at 5:30am (Yes you can!!) I make it to the gym 3 days per week at 5:30am. You will not be disappointed in the decision to join the Lift gym, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Strong Fixes Everything!!

I am in my second month of 2 per week small group workouts with Matt VanShoick. He pushes you hard and I feel stronger every time. I would recommend to anyone looking to change your body, build muscle, lose fat. The Lift is great.

After being away from the gym for years, I was nervous about getting back into fitness. Getting back into it felt intimidating at first, but the trainers here have been absolutely amazing from day one. What sets this place apart is how thoughtful and individualized their approach is with each member. They took time to understand my goals and where I was starting from, making sure I felt comfortable and wasn't thrown into workouts I wasn't ready for. They really do celebrate small wins and focus on consistency rather than expecting miracles overnight. Since joining I've felt increasingly better about my physical fitness, and more importantly, my confidence in my physical abilities has improved dramatically. The trainers keep you accountable while making every session something you will actually look forward to. If you're hesitant about getting back into fitness, or you are looking for somewhere to elevate what you’ve already built, this is the place. I joined the Lift Gym in 2023 — a 61 year old retiree, hoping to get stronger, lose body fat and become motivated to consistently follow a fitness protocol to enjoy this chapter of my life. I hit those goals within months by learning what and how to eat to properly fuel my body, and by leaning into the LIFT’s carefully curated and expertly coached fitness sessions. My interests include hiking — and several months ago I asked coach Matt V to prepare me for some bucket list treks. His focused attention stepped up my fitness so that I enjoyed the rigors of an Inca Trail trek and an epic 15 hour Rim2Rim traverse of the Grand Canyon. I joined The Lift over two years ago. I loved it from the moment I joined. The owners Matt and Kathy are welcoming and make you feel so comfortable whether you are a beginner or workout regularly. I’ve belonged to Lift gym for a year now. It has been a much needed boost to my flexibility and stamina. A quick story: Several years ago, I hiked Superstition Mountains in Arizona. It was not an easy hike, I needed many breaks along the way. I’ve just retuned from another year of Spring Training in AZ, hiked the same trail, and I was not winded, sore or tired at the end of the hike. Next year I intend to go to the top, a hike called Flatiron. A lofty goal when I’ll be almost 67 years old but one I’m sure I can obtain. I credit Lift and it’s incredible staff for giving me the ability to continue such an active lifestyle.

My 7am small group at the LIFT is something I look forward to! We encourage each other and being there that early is such a great way to start my day! I’m not sure where to begin other than, it has been the best investment decision I have ever made for myself in my life. I was thankful I had my sister in law that went there and when I had seen her last Christmas gathering I was blown away! She looked amazing. I joined the challenge in January 2023 and lost an amazing amount of weight I never thought I even had LOL ! Professionalism expertise and very warm smiles and welcomes from Matt & Kathy Jennings to my coach Matt V ( all special) and all the coaches. It’s truly a magical family from the members who cheer you on laugh with you encourage you. I do not see myself ever going anywhere else. The workouts all to strive for better health and looking great. But with all this said, they become family. I am 64 years old and have been going to the Lift Gym for a month now.
Friends and family have noticed a difference in my upper body.
You can go to your huge gym with no guidance and do what you “think” you are doing correctly and get little to no results.
OR
You can go to a gym where your exercises are guided and targeted to get results!
My time is my most precious commodity. I don’t want to waste it doing exercises that provide little to no results.

I have been with Matt Jennings and The Lift for 14 years. In 14 years I got married, had two kids, and moved to Freehold (30 mins away). With all those changes, I have stayed consistent with my workouts. Why? It’s because of the coaches! The trust I have in them and the belief they have in me!
The past 2 years I have switched up my training to Small Group. It was the best decision I have made in my training. Not only do I keep track of my own weights, but the coaches have the ability to motivate me and push me.

Going to the gym can be intimidating, but not at Lift. The small group classes give you the ability to master your form and assist you in nailing down the appropriate weights for you with the guidance from the amazing trainers. It’s one on one but with about 6 other people so it makes learning and growing your strength so fun!
I also love the large group classes. Doing the small group defiantly prepares you for them.
From the owners (Matt and Kathy) to the outstanding trainers, and even the members, you cannot go wrong here! Give it a chance you have everything to gain, including some new friends!!

In the fall of 2021 I found myself walking into The Lift gym looking to talk to someone. I was immediately greeted by Matt + Kathy the husband/wife duo that own and operate the gym. They immediately gave me their undivided attention and 20min later had turned what was just a curious pop-in on my part to see what the gym was all about, into a new member of their gym family. I have been participating in small group strength training for ever since. 3-4 days a week I show up and it’s best part of my day hands down. The Lift Gym has allowed me to turn my personal fitness around COMPLETELY. I have lost significant amount of weight and am stronger than I’ve been my entire life. I started at age 39 and The Lift Gym has shown me it’s NEVER TOO LATE to start your fitness journey! On top of that The Lift Gym has given me many new friendships that I hold very dearly and considered extended family. Whether you are an experienced athlete or have never stepped foot in a gym, The Lift Gym and it’s trainers will make sure they give you the time and attention you need! I just want to give a HUGE thank you to the amazing team at Matt Jennings Fitness! My sister and I just completed an 8 week fitness and nutrition challenge and I have never felt better!!! My husband and I started at The Lift a little over a month ago and the energy that we both have is great! Matt and Kathy helped us feel welcome right from the start. It’s not your typical gym where you don’t know anyone. Everyone there made a point to walk over and say hello and welcome us. They helped us by showing us each routine that was laid out and go over the days program to help you get in get the workout done and get out while feeling that you accomplished something. We work out on small groups so there is attention to each person that comes in to ensure they are doing their lifts the proper way. I highly recommend anyone looking to get strong again and get fit.

Since joining The Lift Gym I am capable of lifting myself off the floor…plus lifting weights I thought would take me forever to lift. Back in April I was in very poor physical shape. I joined The Lift a few months ago and absolutely love it! The owners Matt and Kathy are very knowledgeable and actively involved in coaching/teaching the workouts. You can do small and/or large classes depending on what your jam is and they can also guide and help you with dietary, weight-loss goals. It feels more like a big family or group of friends than just a regular gym and Matt and Kathy get all the credit for creating such a safe and comfortable environment!

First off, I've been training at the Point Pleasant facility for over a year, and I consider this to be an integral part of my day, just like one would wake up, make breakfast, go to work. It becomes part of your daily routine (3 - days per week for me) and the results are astounding. There is an old adage about getting what you pay for, and it is so true here. The level of skill and compassion that each instructor teaches with makes it so that you become acutely aware of your own abilities and overcome the trepidation of challenging yourself to achieve a higher level of fitness. There are so many gyms out there, but very few offer the attention to detail and individualized focus that The Lift Gym does. Every day offers a different routine, and you are taught the importance of each and every exercise you do. Absolutely love it.

I started going to The Lift 2 years ago. In April, I decided to sign up for the Fat Blast Challenge to see what kind of results I would get if I followed the training & nutritional plan. I was given an in body scan at the beginning, midway, & at the end of the challenge. Matt provided an easy to follow nutrition plan with portion sizes. Kathy and the Lift trainers pushed me and gave me the confidence to train a bit harder to get the results & strength they knew I was capable of. I wound up winning the challenge!!! I lost 15.5% of relative body fat while gaining lean muscle mass. I feel stronger and healthier than I have ever felt! I am still following the diet and training plan even though “the challenge” is over because I feel great doing it. I can’t say enough about The Lift family!

The Lift Gym in Point Pleasant is a life changer. My first challenge in 2018 saw me loss 20.1 in 6 weeks. After struggling through 2019 & 2020 with a third back surgery and covid related weight gain my weight went from 236 to 270 lbs and I lacked energy and motivation. In March 2021 I received a challenge from The Lift. An 8 week challenge not for weight loss but body fat. I accepted the challenge and processed to drop my bodyfat from 24.8% to 18.4% while adding skeletal muscle in 8 weeks. Kathy, Matt and the rest of The Lift Crew provided me with the training, diet and motivation I needed to succeed. It is up to you to take that first step………. There isn’t anyone who can’t be a member at The Lift Gym. My husband and I have been working out there for 8 years (through 2 full term pregnancies for me — I delivered both babies with a total of 3 pushes) and still, are not bored of the workouts. As a member, we need to do nothing more than show up. The workouts are planned by Matt and are constantly changing, to cater to the needs of the Tribe members, whatever your age, fitness level or strength.
My husband recently completed the blast FAT challenge and with Matt’s tailored diet plan to supplement his 3 time per week workout schedule (one time each week in a Small Group of 3 member only setting) he achieved optimal results: loss of weight, maintenance of muscle mass and a BMI which he, a former Division I athlete, hasn’t seen in years (if ever!).
Time doesn’t stop, and we’re getting older, but thanks to the Lift Gym, we’re in the best shape of our lives.

I love working out at the Lift Gym. As a member for over 3 years I am always amazed at how Matt, Kathy, and the entire Lift Tribe continue to find new ways to keep me working towards my fitness goals. I most recently participated in a 6 week ‘Fat Blast Challenge’. By following both a nutrition and workout plan designed by Matt I surpassed my goals to be the winner of the women’s division. The key to this particular challenge for me was the individualized attention I received in the small group sessions. I have never played any sports. Have always carried around too much weight. As an adult I used to go to a “box gym” but never felt it did much. My knees hurt, my back hurt and I started blood pressure medication. Something had to change.
Then I found the Lift gym!!!
I lost some weight, my blood pressure normalized, My arthritic knees almost never hurt and I have much more energy and stamina for both work and play . Adding strength training for long term health is critically important.
The focused group classes are always challenging— I was intimidated at first, but the coaches are supportive and watchful if you are new. The workouts are varied and NEVER boring—. People of all ages, shapes and levels of fitness workout here - and are very friendly and supportive of each other .
If an exercise is out of my current range there is always a way to modify if needed.
Get off the couch, leave that boring treadmill and get to the Lift! There really is nothing else out there like it.

It’s Thanksgiving day and one of the things I am thankful for is the lift gym. It’s not faddish, it’s not fancy. It is “Get Fit Done.” The owners, the coaches are hands on and extremely helpful. Making suggestions or modifications if I need it. ( Pretty much always!) I jokingly tell the coaches that I’m a full time job. Anyway it’s been 6 months since I joined The Lift and I am down 35 pounds. My body is transforming from fat and flabby to muscled and jiggly. 🤪 I’m a work in progress. My initial goal was just fat loss but my mindset has changed to one of “fitness.” My mantra is “ I just show up. And I keep showing up.” The support and the friendly comradely atmosphere make showing up a pleasure. Just to keep it real they don’t do the work for you. You do the work and you get the results. It has been a life/health changing for me and I’m grateful for ALL the people at The Lift.
