Best decision I’ve made for myself… took me a while and though I communicated with Kat for maybe a year, she never pushed and when I was ready, she guided me through everything I needed to know. Now that I’ve been going, it’s great— Colin keeps things challenging but doable, providing clear instruction and guidance. It’s always only 3-6 people so it feels like personal training. Plus, it’s a small gym so it’s not intimidating for this 64 year old who’s never done this sort of thing! A+ for Varsity House!

Loving this place! I needed a warm supporting environment to get my butt back into shape and have found it. I just completed a one month shred program in June and had a great experience! I enjoyed the small group experience. Kat and Colin are great trainers and challenged me to make good progress on my fitness journey. This program helped me establish good workout routine and offered flexible schedule. Myself and my wife have had such a great experience at Varsity House. The workouts are fantastic. I have been trying to get my wife to come to the gym with me for 3 decades. Now that we are going to varsity house she loves it so much and calls me out to the trainers when I cheat on my reps. As far as the trainers go they are a huge reason we have continued going to varsity. Kat and Colin are great trainers but more importantly they are great people and make the experience what it is. Varsity House has such a special place in my heart! I have been going to the Ridgewood location for several months now and have been loving it. When I first joined, I came in for a consult to get back on track with consistently working out & reaching my personal fitness goals. Coach Kat and Colin are both very friendly, welcoming & knowledgable and take into consideration your personal goals, design individualized workout plans and motivate you in the most healthy and positive way to achieve those goals. Not only that, they take the time to get to know YOU, connect with you and build a bond with you, something that I had not seen a lot of in other fitness communities. I have seen amazing results with their guidance and coaching & feel confident as ever! Going to the gym can take a lot of self discipline & motivation, but having a community that encourages you, motivates you and boosts your confidence makes it that much more worth it. I have met so many people here that have become more than workout buddies. I even got my dad to join, someone who has been hesitant to work out and he loves it too! I highly recommend to anyone considering joining a personal training gym, you won't regret it with Varsity House!

I was someone who had been going to the gym faithfully since I was 25-50 years old, had a bad back had surgery and just got my right knee replaced 1 1/2 years ago and still need my left knee replaced, they wouldn’t do both at the same time. I hadn’t been to the gym in 15 years because I finally figured it out and now am 65 1//2 yrs old. I signed up for this course but after the first 5 classes they turned it up a notch and in no way was I cardio wise ready for this kinda training in only my 6th class, I’d made it through 45 minutes and that’s it I couldn’t finish the last 15 minutes because I’m not in shape for fast paced stretching and light weight training in only 5 classes and inactive for all these years. I had to go another route of stationary bike and lifting regular weights again and it works good for me. Sorry I couldn’t stay with the other program but I can get results this way because I wasn’t obese and only have to lose 25 lbs + tighten up.Nothing wrong with the Varsity House program but it was to much too soon for me I couldn’t get my wind built up in only 5 one hr sessions.

I don’t even know where to start. This is so much more than a gym. I’ve been here almost 2 years. Am I stronger? Yes! Do I have more energy? Absolutely! Kat is a very intuitive trainer. I’ve experienced a few injuries of the past number of years, particularly my back and knees. I’ve had at least three chiropractors work on my back with zero success. Kat called me personally after I missed several days at the gym to check up on me. When I told her that my back was really bothering me, she asked me to come in for a private no cost one on one session. After a five minute discussion, we engaged in 45 minutes of stretching and breathing.. She never put one finger on me, but by the end of the session, I wanted to cry, because I had not felt relief in my back the way I felt in that moment with any chiropractor in years! Kat is amazing. This gym has really turned into a small family. There are good people here who care about each other. It’s a positive and supportive training environment. Ridgewood is lucky to have this gym and we are blessed to have Kat.

Loving Varsity House!
Kat is my primary coach and she is great as are Alex and Vin have been great as well.
The exercise routines are quite varied so never stale. They are very motivating. I would never push myself to the extent without them.
They are helpful and encouraging to all!
I tried two other training facilities over the past year before Varsity House and this is by far the best.

I didnt know where to begin my fitness journey and as I scrolled FB one day, I saw an ad for Varsity House. I clicked on that ad and Kat reached out to me to bring me in for an evaluation. The small group setting was a perfect fit for me.I was all set to start the next week when I injured my shoulder over the weekend. Kat worked with me to modify exercises to help me recover. I have progressed well due to Kat's help. Varsity House has helped me gain overall strength and lose inches. I'm very happy with my progress! If you're considering your own fitness journey, I highly recommend to give them a try!
Update: I'm closing in on my 2nd year at Varsity House Ridgewood and I feel stronger than I've ever been! Huge shout out to Kat who motivates me and helps me to reach my goals!! In searching for a gym/trainer, I was uncertain of physical abilities (and sometimes lack thereof lol). But the comradery of the (small) groups and the encouragement and knowledge of Colin and Kat, I quickly got over my fears. I’ve been so grateful to join the Varsity House community! Colin and Kat are incredible trainers who bring humor and positivity to workouts, even at 6am. They keep groups small so that they can track everyone’s progress and adapt exercises to suit individual needs. Would highly recommend - the classes are small (Max 5 people) and the instructors really know your individual needs to tailor the workout towards you. They keep the gym very clean and the coaches are great and make the workout fun too. Coach Colin has gone above and beyond with me - getting me back into the gym and comfortable with working out after an injury. My only wish would be that the gym would stay open later in the evening.

Varsity House is fantastic! I spent January-May there this year and within just a few weeks was much stronger and had so much more energy. I’m back again now and couldn’t be happier. The coaches cater each movement to where *you* are, so you feel challenged, but not depleted. Many of the exercises are functional, so tasks like mowing the lawn, tossing laundry from the washer to the dryer, carrying heavy groceries up stairs, all became lighter and much easier for me.
It’s also truly a place for all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds, and feels inclusive and welcoming. In addition to a workout, you get an amazing community of people to workout with!

I would say this is a unique place. I have been to regular gyms, small group and one-on-one training before and was not able to keep up with either for a long time. Gyms would become boring, small groups uncomfortable at times, while one-on-one sometimes was too much pressure. At Varsity House they created a unique environment combining the best of the group practices and personal training. You may still schedule one-on-one if you like it, but the best part of this place for me is that you work out with a small friendly group, so there is a lot of support and no pressure, while you still get the individual attention - those amazing trainers somehow manage to keep an eye on everybody in the room, so be assured that you will be doing it right))). I don’t know how they do it, but the routines are always individualized even though you are in the group, and they remember everybody’s goals and abilities at all times! The challenges of the weight and movements are thoroughly managed and applied gently, yet there is a lot of motivation. I had a chance to work with Kat, Alex and Colin and they all are just great. Sessions are thoroughly planned, modified if needed, very diverse and never boring. I started 4 months ago and feel stronger and more flexible, even though I was doing it only twice a week, planning to move up to 3 times now. Highly recommend.

I am a middle-aged woman-over 50-with a whole lot of joint pain ....didn't think this would work out....but I was wonderfully mistaken. The Coaches at Varsity (shout out to Kat, Alex, Vin, and Colin) take what they do very, very seriously...and they don't make me feel anything "less than"! Rather, they modify workouts so I can get a good, quality workout. I leave feeling like I can run a marathon, until I wake up the next day hahahahaha! Seriously, there are things that I couldn't do before (like walk up a flight of stairs without using my inhaler) that I can do now (sans inhaler). It is very hard work but rewarding all the same. And it is worth every dime to invest in myself. As a beginner, I started with 2 workouts a week. My goal is to get to 3 days but it will probably take me a year. The best parts of Varsity House are the trainers and the community. Kat, Vin, Colin and Alex design workouts that are challenging but approachable to those newer in their fitness journey. Everyone is encouraged to push themselves but at their pace. This is hard to do in a group setting but they pull it off. The members are very supportive and encouraging.

If you are looking to reach a specific health goal, but aren’t sure how to get there I highly recommend Varsity House. I thought that in my adult years it was too late for me to get healthy and change my lifestyle. Varsity House helps motivate me to keep showing up for myself. The clientele are all ranges of age and experience levels. The class sizes are small with lots of individual attention. As for the workouts themselves, things get switched up often. There is a lot of variety so you’ll never feel like you’re getting bored. And if you’ve read this far, just know I can keep going!

it’s clean, the scheduling is open and flexible, it’s small group workout focused so there’s not a lot of people there. The trainers are wonderful, and focused guiding and pushing you within your limits.
I’m a very picky, particular person and this gym passes with flying colors.

I joined VH around a year ago through their high school program. We meet 2 or 3 times a week (your choice) for an hour so it’s not a huge time commitment for a great workout. It’s also a very small group. The trainers work with us essentially 1 on 1 so if anything is ever off they change it up so you can still get a good workout in, even when sore or injured. I would highly recommend joining with a friend as it makes it much more enjoyable with some friendly competition.
