The quality of this gym has declined significantly since the new renovations have been completed. While there is a surplus of squat racks, the gym lacks a ton of equipment necessary to get a good workout in. It is abundantly clear that the focus during renovations was on the gymβs aesthetic rather than its function. Itβs very disheartening to know that NMSU studentsβ tuition was wasted on this facility. This is a complete failure on the deputy headβs behalf.

They change the schedule without informing the students, meaning that in the morning they might change the timings, and when I go to the gym, I get surprised.

I have been lifting in the NMSU activity center weight room for 12 years. Everything in there is in pretty good condition some things are old but they still work great. They have some Hammer strength machines that are pretty nice and their weights go up to 130 lb which is nice. It can get crowded in the beginning of either semester but otherwise it's a pretty solid weight room.
I have lifted in many other places in Las Cruces over the years and I just keep coming back to the weight room at NMSU since I am an alumni and it feels like home

Group classes are great. Student employees wonderful! Weights are great, but the weightroom is closed from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or other (it changes). It would be nice if some weights were available when weightroom is closed. I gave a 2 star because the activity center is often closed. I've had to purchase another gym membership to have access to a fitness center during these times. The online webpage isn't always appropriately updated and sometimes I show up and it is closed. Grrrr.....so frustrating.

Good selection of weight lifting equipment. Not too busy on Saturdays. Locker rooms are outdated. No sauna or steam room is available in locker rooms. For the amount of tuition and fees, gym and weight room should be comparable to commercial gyms.

This place seemed okay the first time I came in. Most of the equipment was taken and had us clean everything which everyone did just so. The second time I came in just myself and they said I wasn't a full time student so I had to pay for their membership. $40 for a small area to workout in. Barely even enough equipment as compared to a planet fitness which is like $10 for a membership. This place isn't worth it. It looks like a old building which blends in with the area. But even inside seems a little run down. Needs improvement majorly if they want students to pay $40 for their membership.

There is a problem in the professionalism of the facility. The equipment is old without maintenance. The staff always have a unpleasant attitude toward everyone and seem unwillingly support any inquiries for help. Everything feel worse post-COVID, so there are many things that should be done to make the place better.

A great facility filled with excellent basketball courts and a fully stocked gym. A great feature of this center is the indoor rock climbing wall if you're up to the challenge. The Activity Center is a positive atmosphere to workout and socialize. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

The overall place is very old and outdated, Basketball courts are always dirty and slippery, weight room is lackluster and cramped, for a university of its size the place overall should not be this bad, but it is.

Staff was friendly, on task, helpful and all went well! I would suggest you put up a couple of signs as people enter off of university, with arrows! I found a kind maintenance man in a cart who led me correct lot! Thank you all for your kindnesses! Veronica Grijalva-Palmisano

What a depressing and neglected place. Just seems run-down and Needs a big refresh because management must be sleeping...
The lack of professionalism among the staff is shocking.
Most of the time they have no sense of dress code and no good way to distinguish who is staff and who is a participant. Especially because half the time the staff is working out while on shift and then going back to the desk and flippity flop. One time I came in and two people behind the desk were turned around playing video games on the TV. Another time they were swiping our cards with greasy hands while eating pizza at the desk.
Almost never get a good greeting from the staff and the overall energy and atmosphere is absolutely lackluster.
The equipment issue process needs an overhaul. For a school this big manual entry into a spreadsheet and asking for my phone number each time when I already have a student ID number is kinda ridiculous.
Basketball courts are plentiful and in good shape but dustier than an attic. Honesty dangerous and should be swept more often.
Not being able to access the pool through the gym locker room is just poor building design.
Hours are also pretty bad with poor communication about them, especially in the summer with a bunch of closures. Not being open on Sundays is also a big knock down.
