Awesome place!! Friendly staff, great coaches that help you tailor your workouts to your abilities but also push you to get better and stronger. Family like atmosphere, no one is ever a stranger. It doesn’t matter your age, fitness level, or if you have never stepped into a gym before. I always thought CrossFit was terrifying, nope. Cantina CrossFit teaches you how to do functional fitness for your everyday life activities, keeping your mobility and independence and staying healthy. I don’t like going to the gym, but,
I LOVE GOING TO THIS GYM!

My husband had been going to Cantina for well over a year before I finally decided to join him. To be honest, I was hesitant. I didn’t see myself as someone who fit the typical ‘CrossFit image,’ and I wasn’t sure I’d belong.
But from the moment I walked in, I realized how wrong I was. What I found instead was a community of people who are real, encouraging, and genuinely supportive. The 5:30 a.m. class has become one of my favorite parts of the day—everyone shows up for each other.
We all come from different walks of life and are at different points in our health journeys, but we come together with a shared goal: to show up, work hard, and grow stronger—physically and mentally. Six months later, I’m so thankful I took that first step. Cantina has become so much more than a gym for me—it’s a community that lifts you up.

Thanks, John for the impromptu HYROX workout. Such an awesome gym and really friendly people. I don’t think I could’ve finished without all my new Cantina friends cheering me on. I’ll be back next time I’m in town!

We are traveling from Wisconsin and looked around the area for a local CrossFit gym close to our Airbnb, after reading reviews we chose to go with Cantina CrossFit and we are so thankful that was the choice we went with! After calling the gym and getting to speak to the owner of the gym, we knew we had found our people. The vibes were tremendous, the gym owner met us the morning we came in and fully made us feel like we were already part of the family.
The gym is expansive and has everything you would need for the dedicated crossfitter! This was only our first class but we couldn't wait to put out our Google review after getting to experience the awesome coach and crossfitters there. The gym atmosphere was low pressure and all good times!
If you're in the area or just visiting I HIGHLY recommend choosing Cantina, you won't regret it!

I moved to Albuquerque last August for a job. By December, I had reached the heaviest weight of my life and was scared.
I reached out to the owner, John, and he invited me to Cantina CrossFit. I was apprehensive but knew I needed to make a change. I had tried CrossFit once, about a decade ago, but never made it back for a second class—anxiety, low self-worth, and fear kept me in the car until I eventually canceled my membership. This time had to be different. I didn’t like how I looked, and more than that, I wanted to live. When I met John, I was 435 lbs.
I showed up early that first day, and he took the time to sit with me, listen, and get to know me. I told him I wanted to get healthier, to feel and look better—but I didn’t want to do it alone. I grew up playing team sports like football and basketball, and every attempt at the gym by myself had been short-lived. I needed to be part of a team again.
From day one, the coaches modified movements so I could complete the workouts. I struggled—physically and mentally. Some mornings, just getting through the door was the hardest part. But I kept showing up. The coaches encouraged me. They called me an “athlete” for the first time since high school. Eventually, I started to believe it.
The other athletes welcomed me without hesitation. They celebrated my wins, cheered me on through the hard workouts, and—most importantly—cared about me as a person. They asked about my life, my wife, and remembered the details. They invited me in. That’s the biggest thing I’ve gained in the last three months—more than muscle or weight loss: I have people. A team. A community that supports and challenges me. If I miss a day, someone checks in. Outside of workouts, I’m spending time with people from Cantina at least once a week. I’m not alone in this anymore.
In three months, I’ve averaged five workouts a week and lost 28 lbs. I have more confidence, endurance, and strength than I’ve had in a decade. No one here has tried to sell me pills or gimmicks—just real work, real people, and real progress. Cantina is full of folks of all ages, sizes, and abilities, all showing up for themselves and each other. I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m closer. I like myself more. My body is starting to reflect the person I see inside.
I didn’t gain this weight overnight, and it won’t come off overnight—but I don’t have to do it alone.
I’m grateful for these people, for this place, and for John’s vision. I was accepted as I was, and invited to invest in the person I want to become.

I love Cantina Crossfit gym. I started July 2. 2024 and now in the best condition of my life. I trained at a typical gym for 40 years, started at 21 & now turning 69 in April, 2025. I am thrilled at the results and my overall health has never been better thanks to the helpful and knowledgeable coaches & equipment at Cantina Crossfit. I strongly recommend Cantina Crossfit for your next challenge. 🫶💪

One of the best CrossFit gyms in Albuquerque, hands down. Super friendly and welcoming to people of all fitness levels. The coaches and owner, John, are literally the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
The gym is clean and spacious and has all of the equipment you could need. They even have two weightlifting platforms. There is also a safe, contained are for children.
If you’re looking for a gym to join or drop into I’d highly recommend Cantina CrossFit!

If you're searching for a CrossFit gym that feels like a second family, this is the place! The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, with members of all ages and skill levels cheering each other on. The class schedule is incredibly flexible, so it's easy to fit in a workout no matter how busy you are. Plus, there are two showers on-site for added convenience. If you're after a supportive community and great CrossFit training, I highly recommend this gym!

I have enjoyed becoming part of the Cantina CF Box. The coaches are great. They are warm, welcoming, giving, and encouraging. They aren't going to push and oversell, but they are going to be there. I am still getting to know the others who attend, but they are very encouraging. As for the workouts, well, they are what they are. They are scaleable and you can make mods for various reasons you get out what you put in. Reach out to anyone of the coaches if you want to give it a try.

Cantina CrossFit changed my life and helped me prepare and enlist into the USAF back in 2014. I was with Cantina when they first started out when it was ran by military vets Chad, dusty Dave, Shawn, Mel, and Jordan. They had great instructors with a great encouraging atmosphere and definitely helped me get into the best shape of my life and helped prepare me for selection courses. Debbie also was awesome. Hope these guys are still around and that’s is the tradition that was set at cantina. I’d definitely love to call this box home once again. Being an original member from the start my instructors were great. Now I have no idea about the new instructors over there hopefully they have carried and continued the active duty reserve and guard presence over there as well as law enforcement.

My experience with Cantina Crossfit was ok until I needed to end my membership. I talked to the owner, John, before the start of a new month and he said he’d update the system. Btw, this place is month-to-month payments, no contracts. However, come the next month my credit card was charged anyways. I’ve called and texted John but he doesn’t respond and at this point I think he’s flat out ignoring me. What’s more, when I log into the gym’s member portal it says I’m still an active member and a refund hasn’t been issued.
I have no patience or time for bad business practices. So I’ve cancelled my card and my bank issued the money I’m owed back to me. I recommend you do the same if this happens to you. I would’ve requested a chargeback and had the bank contact Cantina Crossfit directly but I’m going to be out of town. Beware of this place, don’t give them your credit card number!

I found this gym was not inclusive to beginners. One trainer mentioned she could tell I had no athletic past by my poor performance. The owner John was very unprofessional when I spoke with him about the issue. He told another trainer that I was difficult to train because I’m “uncoordinated”. Over all, this was not an inclusive place. If you’re looking for a positive and uplifting gym, this is not the place for you

Great programing, great staff, great gym!
I trained at Cantina Crossfit for 2 months in 2021. The facilities are excellent here and the programming had a lot of diversity, which I really liked: Metcons, strength-based powerlifting, barbell movements, gymnastics, bodyweight, and endurance. The gym itself is very large and open, with huge windows that give you views of the Sandia Mountains. There was a lot of room and enough equipment to accommodate all athletes. The staff are very accommodating and really work with the athletes to ensure they are having a great experience.
I've been to many CrossFit boxes as I've traveled across the country and would highly recommend this gym. I'll be back on my next time through ABQ.

I dropped in at this gym back in December and signed to have my card charged a drop in rate. I’ve been being charged ever since and have emailed back and forth with staff and left multiple messages with no luck. In my email they apologized and said it would not happen again but I’ve been charged 2 more times. Everytime I call and leave a message they do not respond. If you don’t want to be locked into a lifetime membership, don’t try dropping in here while passing through Albuquerque.

Cantina CrossFit embodies what Crossfit should be about - improving your fitness no matter if you're new to exercise or a super fit athlete with a great community. While I'm originally an Albuquerque native, I moved away 20 years ago and only get to visit occasionally. I've dropped into other CF boxes while home, but this was my first experience at Cantina CF. While John (the owner) couldn't have been more kind, welcoming, and hospitable...it was actually the MEMBERS and the other people who are part of John's team that set this place apart. People were SO SO nice...asking me where I was from and just making general conversation, welcoming me "home" to the 505 even though I was just visiting for a few days. And once the WOD started, you could see there were varying levels of fitness...and they all worked out to the best of their ability with the support and push from the coaches and fellow members. This place is a gem. If I moved home, I'd have no doubt I'd join Cantina in a heartbeat.
On a side note, on my flight home, my connection was in Denver. My flight out of ABQ was delayed, so when I landed in Denver - they were already boarding my flight home to the NJ. According to the text I received, the anticipated time for me to get from my arrival gate to my departure gate would be 24 minutes. Not knowing they hold planes in this day and age...I engaged my "CrossFit mentality" and said, "well, let's have some fun with this." I threw on my backpack and started my timer. I got to my gate in 11 minutes...a little sweaty, a little out of breath (I blame the altitude), but I beat the 24 minute time cap. That's what CrossFit is about in my opinion. You train your fitness in the box, but you train so that you can USE your fitness in real life when you need it. Thanks for your hospitality, Cantina CF!

Came to Cantina for a month while I was in ABQ on a business trip. John (owner) worked with me on drop in pricing so I figured I'd give it a shot. From workout 1, the coaches (and members) greeted me like I'd been a member for years. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and warm plus the programming was awesome. The coaches were experienced and very in tune with customer needs (injuries, form, etc.) but also pushed the hell out of you during the workout. I'll absolutely go back when I'm in town again.

The coaches at this box have a unified purpose: to help their clients attain greater levels of fitness, functional mobility, strength, and overall health. They are some of the most motivating and encouraging trainers I have ever met. As a new member, they scaled workouts to my current fitness level and gave me the tools to improve. I have always felt like a welcome part of the community here. You will too!
