Bathrooms, showers, and sauna are usually dirty so I don't use them. The sauna is broken most the time anyway. Some coaches are great and others terrible. Not much middle ground there. Managers need to get more involved.

This is the best gym in Santa Fe and in the entire chain!
The manager, Omar and his team go above and beyond to ensure the customer service is optimal, the facility is clean and the machines are working properly.
The indoor pool is amazing and the group classes are fun.
Just bring your own towel and soap.

I really enjoy the classes and the pool. A few things I don't like is both the pool and showers are freezing. Also, the weight area, especially the pulleys, is full of a group of rude men. They like to intimidate you and keep you from using the equipment. I know its not the gyms fault how others act, but maybe an additional pulley area would be helpful? Overall, I enjoy this gym and agree the staff is friendly.

This gym lies to get you to join, then ignores you or points to the "fine print" when you ask for a pause or try and cancel your membership. They treat you like it's prison and you have to ask the warden(who's never around and ignores you) to be "let free!"

Dirty equipment, shell game with hidden fees, and continue to charge your card after you cancel your membership. Emailed the GM Omar directly and he's flat out ignored my request to cancel my membership, but yet he continues to charge my credit cards, even a card i never gave them. Expect to bring all your own stuff, towels, lock, tissue paper, paper towels, etc. They are not true to the word when selling you a membership, STAY AWAY!!!

We only signed up because they had on-site childcare. We were told that there would always be two female childcare providers on site.
After we signed up and paid all the fees, we came to drop off our children, only to discover that there was one single male looking after a dozen children on his own. I did not feel comfortable, leaving my 9 month old infant in alone his care, with so many other children to care for.
They said they would do arts and crafts and music with the kids, but we did not see any of this happening.
We were also not informed that they give the children a tablet to play with. We are a screen free home and the TV was enough as it is. Overall false advertising.
We went only one time and requested cancellation promptly, but still had to pay the $100 cancellation fee in addition to the sign-up fee and monthly fees. The whole experience cost us well over $200 for a 20 minute workout and in adequate falsely advertised childcare Management was completely in flexible and unwilling to even offer a partial refund. Planet fitness is by far much better, more affordable and more accommodating.

This gym use to be a cool gym but a lot of the equipment is dirty or broken not to mention the bathrooms always look nasty. Bathrooms at a bus station are cleaner. I come to find they stopped cleaning the equipment when I wiped down the barbell before use and 3 wipes turned completely black that’s nasty. Then they increased the price saying that the gym offers so much, there’s plenty other gyms in Santa Fe that offer the same for a better price on a membership

Bathrooms are disgusting you have to search for a place where the soap actually works. They never clean the equipment. The equipment is so dirty. The equipment is either not functioning right or out of order. They always run out of wipes. It seems like they never restock them. You're always searching for a wipe to wipe down the equipment. The sauna is down half the time. The leg press machines are not put together, right? They're falling apart. This gym isnt taken care of dirty and always extremely hot in here. The parking lot is so small that you can't even find a parking space. Half the time and when you go into the gym, it's,not even that full. The classes should be in the Am I feel like this is a main contributor. The water filtration systems are always in red, and they are never replaced in a timely matter. All the water in the building is either hot. There's only one area where you could find actually cold water and the filter in good
condition.

I have attempted to suspend my membership since December of 2024 for health reasons and only get the run around as to why they can't do it. I've gone in person to suspend the account only to be told I came during the wrong time frame and to come back. I called again in May and was assured my membership was frozen only to receive another bill today. Unfair and deceptive business practices. I'm a senior citizen and disabled veteran. When healed I will find another gym!

General manager L*** was very inflexible when I asked for some reasonable compromises to my 7 day free trial wristband. He had put the wristband on me before he finished explaining they'd need to be on for 24/7.
I immediately asked if we could readjust it, have it not be so tight, if I could just have a different wrist band each day I come in, or if we could just cut it and I'll bring the same wristband each day for QR code scanning.
No to every reasonable suggestion! They have me in the system already... It's not like I'd cheat them by bringing the same wristband for free after the 7 days are over AND they have to personally scan the QR codes, so it's not like I'd be able to sneak past them either. And of course they can't use wristbands that can clasp and unclasp for convenience. The moment you cut off this wristband, even after only wearing it for 10 SECONDS, you void the entire 7 day free trial. No other gym does that.
What infuriated me the most was how much L*** had repeated the same words over and over going "per corporate policy" as if he didn't hear anything I said. It was like I poked an NPC in a video game with pre-recorded dialogue on repeat. Like, I get the company policy but have some common sense ESPECIALLY when your name tag has General Manager on it. Have some leeway and discretion before you drive off potential customers over something so minor. OR finish explaining the whole thing and double check how the customer wants the wristband BEFORE clasping it on.
Besides that, the equipment isn't that great as it can first appear. The equipment sorta felt like they were made of somewhat cheap material the more you handle them. More importantly, the weighted plates and dumbbells are 5 lb increments apart (exception: I saw 12.5 lb dumbbells). The machines don't have much weight to adjust in-between levels either. It's like I entered an LA Fitness knock-off version... But for almost double the price. It's not good for progressive overload that way, and the gym can be pretty crowded. Also closes early on weekends at 7PM. But that could just be a general Santa Fe thing with everything closing early.
What started out as me excited to have found an LA Fitness replacement ended in sheer disappointment. At least the open space they have is decent. But I'd save money and go elsewhere... Other commercial gyms are in the same plazas as grocery stores nearby for convenience too.

I have been a member of Defined Fitness Capital Club for over two years and LOVE this facility. Everything from the equipment, staff, group fitness classes, the sauna and cleanliness...I have no complaints! Today they really hit the ball out of the ballpark. After my workout, I returned to my car to find a flat tire. Omar, the manager of the facility, was kind and gracious enough to offer help. Minutes later Joshua was there to literally lend a helping hand and help change my tire! What an amazing team they have here! I am so grateful for finding my gym home away from home.

Pros: lots of space, good workout equipment, clean spaces and lots of lockers.
Cons: the men’s sauna has been broken for close to a year and they just keep changing the date on the sign. Looks like black mold in there.
Management makes up rules. One day your friend can try out a free day pass. The next day they won’t allow friends or it’s $20, for 1 day! 😂. Used to allow 14 year and over, now according to them it’s 18 years old…
They have over charged me $400. Rates always go up. Sign up fee is comical and to cancel is ridiculous.
Would be a perfect gym if management knew what they were doing. Staff is a revolving door so it’s obviously upper management that has no clue

As a gym owner in Los Angeles, whenever I travel to a new city I always look for local gyms and assess four things: equipment, amenities, cleanliness, and service. Defined Fitness was the only location in Santa Fe that blew me away on all fronts. I went to two other gyms and nothing in this city compared to the experience I had at Defined Fitness. The facility is beautiful and Omar (the General Manager) provided my wife and me with an unparalleled customer service experience. As a matter of fact, every staff member here greeted us personally when we walked in the doors and made us feel at home. I can’t recommend Defined Fitness enough.

The system they use didn’t take out the membership. Old manager said to let him know if it happened again. This caused a fee of $20 some and again it happened.

My account has the money. It’s not pulling out the day of and that falls on me?

Defined Fitness Capital Club – Not Worth It
I visited Santa Fe in early January and needed a place to work out. Defined Fitness Capital Club seemed like an option, but the experience was frustrating. They only offered an overpriced day pass with no flexibility. On top of that, they required a photo, email, phone number, address, and a survey—just for a single visit. They even held onto my driver’s license until I left. McDonald's doesn’t hold ones ID until they are finished with their burger—why does a gym need to?
While I was jumping through all these hoops before my workout (I guess that counts as cardio), a guy walked up to the counter to cancel his membership. I should have taken the hint.
I told them I wouldn’t be coming back and didn’t want to be contacted, yet I’ve received multiple texts trying to get me to sign up. The gym seemed more about catering to influencers than serious gym-goers looking for a solid workout. Not worth the hassle. Stay away.
I wrote the top portion on February 6th 2025. The club even has a comment about my review. But get this. TODAY!!! D***n from the club called me from Santa Fe leaving a message for me that they are doing a special this month. Well thanks D***n, I'll just drive on down from Denver every day for my workout. #thisisn'talbuquerque

Nice gym but over packed no parking , but the main concern is the very dirty locker room men’s sauna's been closed for over a month now and always breaks not to mention it’s also falling apart (seats coming up, and rail always falls off wall ) and it’s not sanitary at all , never mopped or cleaned properly maybe moped once a month😐 seen trash(bandaids) under the seats that’s been there for weeks at a time , it should be cleaned with disinfectant spay at least once a day . There’s also a drain but it’s covered so that doesn’t help for cleaning 🧼 they put very minimal in repairs, they need to re build the suana properly for how much it’s used . Next are the showers there is build up on the walls of scum and you can tell when they don’t mop or clean them in weeks , they need to use bleach !! Tried contacting corporate, no answers

I visited Defined Fitness of Santa Fe, as an out-of-town guest and purchased a day pass. The gym itself is spacious, clean, and well-equipped with more than adequate machines and free weights. The front counter personnel were friendly and helpful during the registration process. After showing my license, paying with a credit card, and providing my cell phone number and email address, I was surprised and uncomfortable when they insisted on holding my driver’s license for “liability reasons.”
A business cannot legally hold your license or personal identification as a condition for using their facilities. Your driver’s license is your property, and their policy of retaining it seems unnecessary and intrusive, especially after verifying my identity and collecting ample information during registration.
Reluctantly, I acquiesced, but I strongly urge the management to reconsider this policy. With identity verification already completed, holding onto personal property is unwarranted and raises privacy and security concerns for customers. While the gym itself offers a great experience, this policy detracts from what would otherwise have been a pleasant visit.

Very nice, and very clean gym that's very affordable - but its so crowded that I often struggle to complete a workout in a reasonable period of time. I end up skipping exercises every single time because there's so many people here that you almost need a queue for certain machines. What I used to be able to complete in an hour and fifteen minutes or so at other gyms usually takes two and a half hours or more here.
They need another location or a cap on membership.

I really love the classes and machines and especially the people who work and train here. However the bathrooms and shower area haven’t been cleaned in weeks. Literally, the woman’s shower area smells and the floor has a used band aide and small bits of trash in the shower and drain. I haven’t seen anyone cleaning in the gym in maybe a month and I wipe down equipment before and after I use it. That being said, if only they could pay someone enough to lift a broom and mop I would gladly recommend.

Friendly staff, well equipped and heavily used gym. Maintenance of the facility seems to be a somewhat low priority however, especially in the locker room. When things are out of order they seem to stay that way for quite a while. Sauna is operational maybe 60-70% of the time. And when it does go out of service , it stays that way for a week or more. Feel like the membership price is that of a high quality facility, think the maintenance could reflect that a little better. Appreciate you all though!

I used to enjoy this gym and have been a member of defined for years. This location in particular is heavily lacking oversight. Broken/missing dumbbells, disorganized at all times, ez bars and straight bars have all been loose for many months, bolts coming loose and falling out of other machines and equipment, a gross lack of maintenance overall.
Besides the equipment concerns, the crowd is generally unpleasant, rude, or has no consideration for others. I frequently have to hunt for dumbbells or benches throughout the gym as they’ve been moved elsewhere. None of the members are corrected for their unsafe actions or complete disrespect of gym equipment, but god forbid you’re 5 minutes past closing. Then they’ll dock your account.
If there wasn’t a recent significant hike in pricing for membership, I wouldn’t be as upset but this is a joke at this point.

I’ve enjoyed this gym for years! I do have a few complaints, the quality of the gym equipment has decreased (ripped seats, chipped weight plates, lots of broken machines). Usually wouldn’t complain about that, but given we do pay a pretty penny, I expect top tier of everything. Also, I DO NOT want nor enjoy having Defined Fitness Trainers interrupting my workout to advertise their training package deals. If I want information about that I will inquire about it at the front desk, not while I’m heavily breathing between my sets. Thank you. Other than that it’s a quite enjoyable environment as long as I’m left alone and able to lock into my workout.
Word of advise, bring back paper towels!!

It’s a fine gym but they’re not big enough for how many people go. It is always swamped it’s crazy. They also play some of the worst music I’ve ever heard. Every time. It’s just truly awful.
It has more of a “big box” gym feel than any of the other locations. They’ve gotten a little bit better about keeping things clean and repaired, but definitely still have room for improvement. Some of the people who ho work there are really great, but a lot of them very obviously couldn’t care less about being there and make sure you know that you’re bothering them.
Overall it’s a mixed bag. My least favorite of all of the defined locations, but of course the only one in Santa Fe so what can you do.
~I’ve never heard K-pop at the other two locations I’ve been going to for years, but hear K-pop and like K-pop metal (what?) all the time here. It seems like lately the music is more normal with what the other locations play.

I am going to be totally honest about this Santa Fe facility. I joined to have a year round pool and I have been happy about that. But the totally loud music where the volume suddenly goes up to over the top negates my noise cancellation headphones. This is extremely frustrating and so is the sometimes very crazily loud thunder thumping playlist. I was told by staff that music is “soley controlled by corporate headquarters”. I do visual head counts when I go to this gym to workout for weights and more than 50% of people always wear headphones. It’s so unfortunate that staff can’t adjust music to a tolerable level, nor adjust for different music enjoyed by staff, older, middle age, and younger people. Why does corporate think that the kind of music played enhances our workouts? One can barely have a conversation, encourage camaraderie among the workouts. The corporate mentality about this is so out of touch. I have tried calling the headquarters telephone number MULTIPLE TIMES and it always says “ you can’t leave a message bc the mailbox is full. These people do not want to engage with their members. I find more willingness on the part of the Albuquerque facilities. Not all but some. I’ve had to resort to posting this review. I am seriously thinking of quitting and word of mouth and reviews are our only avenue to get the word out.

You know how the gym economy is super predatory? To be honest I wasn’t going to the gym a lot. So I tried to call and cancel my membership but they won’t do it over the phone. You know why? Because they want to try and sell you back into it. That’s just a small sign that they’re trying to up-sale and prey on you more. I Guess that’s every gym that’s doing this kind of stuff but doesn’t that suck? That if you’re trying to be healthy and work out you have to go through all this. The whole industry disgusts me. Lifters who do heavy lifts in your socks you are not welcome here. I was asked to wear shoes by management after paying $22 for a drop in workout. Due to not having stable lifting shoes available for squats, I requested a refund and left. First time in visiting many gyms across the country over 20+ years of workouts that I've had to do this. The vast majority of gyms understand the need to not use footwear for heavy lifts as many of us do not have lifting shoes and prefer a more consistent workout without our shoes.
All other gyms I have visited do not care as long as you are not barefoot. Serious lifters are not welcome because this gym does not understand this need. For non members they require that they hold your ID at front desk while you work out, which is also unusual for drop in workouts. Unfortunately not a good experience.

I do like the gym but it's so dusty. I was a member of the gym at Chuze in ABQ, but I moved. At Chuze, staff members always dust the place and very very clean restroom. Often here, toilet papers were out. Restroom wasn't that clean. Kids, under 18, were there to hang not to use the equipment. Gym is the new mall. Where are their parents? I saw this staff was cleaning the windows, but good enough. Like one wipe and leave wet stains there. That staff didn't look happy to work there. Go find somewhere else. I'm going to look somewhere else to see if it's a better gym then end the membership at the end of the month because that's how it works at their gym. So weird.

It is ridiculous that they will not allow you to cancel without going in and signing in their presence. I can buy a house, a car, sign every type of legal contract without being physically present at a place of business EXCEPT I cannot cancel a gym membership. When I asked why, I was told "it is corporate policy." I was told and that I had to appear in person for it to be binding. Truth: It is corporate greed. It is an oppressive business practice designed to make it difficult to cancel so they keep charging you month after month. I can understand that they want it in writing, but there are so many ways to achieve that - via DocuSign, email, mail, fax....plenty of alternatives that work for other business transactions. I am very disappointed and do not like this business model.

The equipment is nice and free classes are a great benefit but it is pretty dirty. Also during busy times it can be hard to lift with all the people that just put their bags all over the floor and equipment. I wish they would stop allowing people to do that….never seen it before, it’s kinda wild.

It’s a clean gym and has a great atmosphere the only reason why I rate it 4 stars is because most of the time they’re out of wipes to clean the equipment and the staff can be a bit unprofessional sometimes but other than that it’s a really good gym with a lot of variety of equipment

Became a member and saw that you could become a member online as well. Called and emailed and said that I wanted to cancel my membership since I am moving. They responded a day later and said that I was unable to cancel my membership over phone or email and had to do it in person. Went in the same day to cancel membership, but since it aligned with their dates (6 days before the 1st of the next month) then I was unable to cancel my membership. Seems like a response happened to make sure that I had to pay for next month. I asked them if I could cancel for next month then since I was moving, they said no and I had to go in person October 1st if I’d like to cancel for next month. I had other stuff pop up as you’d expect with moving and was unable to make it in person. I emailed and called to get my membership canceled as there is no possible way that they require you to be in-person to cancel but allow you to join online. I never received a call back from the GM and am now waiting to hear back. This gym allows easy registration but makes it impossible to cancel (in the name of security, but really to trap members) if you move. I plan to send a letter letting them know that I cancel my membership and have my bank not allow any more transactions to go through to them. I tried to call the corporate office and no extensions were available and the voicemail box is full. I have spent several hours during work hours to deal with this issue. Will Defined Fitness pay for my PTO that I had to use to deal with this?

I enjoy the gym and classes and am grateful Santa Fe has this space. Becoming a member is unfortunately complicated, with very few short- or medium-term options. A $150 start-up fee PLUS an annual service fee is really silly. I wish this would be addressed from the corporate level. Many people come to Santa Fe seasonally, and a modified option for temporary residents makes sense.

Usually it’s really nice, but recently coming in the night time the front desk girl is super RUDE. She’s with who I assume is her boyfriend and acts as if it’s an inconvenience for her to check us in. Doesn’t even say hello hi or thank you or you’re welcome. This has become a usual thing, maybe she can hang out with her boyfriend on her own time?!?! The other worker is doing all the work, well she’s chatting away with that guy. Like it’s a job you should be working, hang out before or after work, but not during. Maybe she should be cleaning and the guy up front ?? Just a thought..

The instructors and classes are wonderful. Only downside so far is they outsource to ABC Fitness for processing payment; so, if your identity/card is stolen and you can't update your card in person in time (couldn't do it online), then their hands are tied to any extra fees that they charge you (said by a Defined staff member and also by ABC Fitness agent). Their partner, ABC Fitness, are indifferent to special circumstances. It's not the amount of the fee that bugs me, it's the cruelty of caring about profits over people, no matter the circumstance. But, as long as you don't get your identity/cards stolen, you will likely be happy with being a member here.

I am not a happy with this Defined Fitness at all! They are not user friendly active military members. The bald guy that works is there has been disrespectful to my son every time he goes to work out. He started to act hostile to my son until another “manager” told him to calm down. And let him take care of it. This is not okay. My son puts his life on the line for us all to have people like this to be so disrespectful and rude. Clearly this man does not like his job. Or has a huge chip on his shoulder. Define Fitness do better. Look at all your negative reviews. Something has to change!

Absolutely disgusted with this place. Was considering getting a membership because of the daycare. But what’s the point?! A mom who was breastfeeding was asked to move to the bathroom. When I first started coming the staff was great and the facility wasn’t so packed. Now it is over run by teenagers who don’t respect the facility or equipment. The manager is also no help and does not respect my concerns when mentioned to him. Most of the old employees have left and the new girl employees are rude and can’t even greet you when coming into the facility. They definitely need a new manager and age limit for members. Not to say the Air Conditioner hasn’t worked in weeks.

I am looking for a gym and stopped by Defined Fitness for a tour of the facility. I was asked to sign a waiver in case of an accident. They handed me a tablet and wanted my name, my email address, my phone number, my date of birth, and even wanted me to take a picture.
While I understand that accidents happen, it is highly unlikely that one would occur on a tour of the facility. If you need a waiver, a simple paper waiver, and a verification of a valid ID is sufficient. The amount of information they ask for is outrageous. Imagine if you had to do that in every facility you walked into.

Hands down the biggest in Santa Fe, and they have everything you need, including outdoor training space! There is nothing in Santa Fe that even comes close to being a full service gym except Defined Fitness. For some reason the only national chain that services Santa Fe is Anytime Fitness which is where I usually go when in town because my insurance picks up the fee. There's a gym called Santa Fe Spa that's decent with a very friendly clientele but it's much smaller.
My only complaint is that their pricing is not all that friendly for people in town on short stays. It's either $20/day or $100/month if you can't do their monthly draft. The draft is quite reasonable if you can make a 12 month commitment. I hope someone reads this and introduces some other shorter term options.
Well, maybe I do have another complaint, don't bother trying to shower in the men's locker room, the water will never get warm.(This is only a winter problem) You do fortunately have an alternative; there's a few areas called 'family changing rooms' that get sufficient water heating, it's just a little odd to get to if you're using the sauna or the pool.
The aqua massage beds are a nice touch, I hope they stand up to the test of time. I'll definitely come back when I'm staying a few weeks or more in Santa Fe. If you're just in town for a few days to a week you're better off with The Santa Fe Spa in my opinion.

I am now a member and use this gym daily when in Santa Fe. I still love the size and variety of equipment. The gym is definitely busy during most open hours. I've been told by staff that they are understaffed and are looking for more employees so that they can accommodate extending the hours back to precovid standards. I often come late at night and find myself rushing to finish up by closing time of 10pm, but hey, that's Santa Fe, most businesses that cater to an evening crowd still close shop between 9-11pm. I have noticed a few issues that will likely resolve with more employees; wet floors in locker rooms and changing areas because they are frequently used and not as frequently cleaned, empty toilet paper dispenser's, and equipment out of order signs that stay up for more than a few days. And lately I've noticed an odd choice of storing pallets full of beverages on the workout floor. Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy the gym exists and enjoy my workouts here, just wish they had the staff to be more conscientious about the member experience.

This gym is a disaster. In fact, I’m considering canceling my Defined membership because of it. First of all, the sauna doesn’t work. It hasn’t worked in months. Second, there aren’t even scales in the locker rooms. The flooring is falling apart, and the whole place is ghetto. Fix the sauna. Put a scale in the locker room. Give us what we are paying for!

This gym is a scammer with their billing and canceling of your membership. Even after signing a cancelation form they still tried for months to charge my account. I had to have my bank block them. They have really shady clauses in their contracts about freezing your account and ending your membership. And when you want to freeze your account, you have to ask a week before the next month starts, and sometimes they still charge you, plus they charge you a 10$ fee to freeze your account. None of this they tell you when you sign up, but later they say “oh this was all explained to you when you signed up” no it wasn’t. Then make a huge messy deal about refunding or fixing their “mistakes”. It’s always intentional with them. Greedy weird owners. Also there is the owners daughter who “greets” everyone by yelling “hi welcome!” In the most unfriendly militant way when you enter, like why bother even greeting people if you make
It feel like it’s the army, gross.
