I’ve tried a few Defined locations so far and this one is by far my favorite! The staff here is so polite and eager to greet me when I came in! Jade and Jareth were welcoming and had great energy! Their smiles are contagious. We need more positivity in this world! I am extremely impressed with the great customer service, but would love to see the pool get completely fixed!

I’ve been a member for close to a decade and despite living about 2 minute drive away, I purposely drive out of my way to go to the Bosque or Sandia club. No plans to fix basic things that your membership should cover? That’s ridiculous. They don’t even bother to get a working scale in the women’s locker room even though the existing one has been broken for months.

I no longer come to Defined fitness. The music was always loud and awful, the locker/shower room smelled like sewer, the pool and hot tub are usually out of service, plus they raised the price on my membership without any alert whatsoever (sign, email, text, etc). They also got rid of some good leg machines that I used regularly. Don't waste your money here, there's better gyms around

Very often, it’s simply impossible to be here because the staff play loud, disharmonious music — heavy rock, death rock, and similar genres. People come here to exercise, improve their health, and find harmony, but the staff don’t seem to understand this, as they keep playing music that is harmful and destructive to people.

This location continually harassed my EMERGENCY CONTACT about coming in to get a membership once-a-week for months, even after being told they weren't interested, until my emergency contact finally blocked them. The amount of legal liability that could ensue from an emergency contact blocking them if I were to get hurt is unfathomable.

Later on, I went to change my membership from one paid for by insurance, to one paid for out of pocket by me. They told me this would create a different "membership profile" meaning that I would be charged the signup/yearly fees AGAIN, so I told them I would like to cancel. They said that was fine, and that no other action was needed on my part, so I left. I received a phone call from a collections agency 8 months later, after absolutely zero contact from anyone with Defined. Defined failed to cancel my membership and sent dues to collection.

This is by far the slimiest management I have ever encountered at a gym. They are predators, and will milk you for every dime they can. I will NEVER give them another cent, and sincerely hope they learn to treat customers with some dignity and respect.

I don't normally write reviews and always have LOVED this gym. The equipment, the employees, and the positive gymgoers... So this is disappointing to write...

Today I was working out with a friend, working on a core routine... Minding our own business doing nothing wrong, building each other up, and having a good positive workout.

Then an employee, Carlos first came up to us and asked us to leave out of the blue (I thought he was joking and laughed at first). He said I can't be training people, or counting reps.... I WASN'T TRAINING ANYONE. Just working out with a friend, doing a new core routine. We rebuttled saying we were doing nothing wrong and just friends trying to positively build each other up... He then said okay and left. Then another witness came up to us and told us about his experience along with 2 other people witnesses who were baffled. Carlos came back and asked this gentleman to leave too, which was out of line. Then the district manager, Cindy came and told us we were breaking policy, which we weren't. We calmly rebuttled along with the other gentleman who was asked to leave for no reason, and she let it go. They then came back one more time and told me we were breaking policy when we were just 2 friends working out together. When I asked for their names as we were leaving, Cindy told me to lower my voice, when it was literally my normal talking voice.... What the heck. Why are you treating us like drunk unruly people at a bar when we were minding our own busines, having a good and positive workout. Multiple other witnesses came up to us and said sorry we had to go through with that (5 other people to be exact, including the other one they asked to leave). I've been coming here for a few years with no problems, and nothing but positive interactions, and loved it. People workout together all the time....What???

Also if we want to talk about policy, what is the policy on harassment? Because Carlos and Cindy definitely broke that policy.

I was not training anybody, simply working out with a friend like everybody else.

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. this gym has been around for YEARS and they charge $50 a month for a dirty, run down, trash facility. This place is nothing but a scam and a garbage can. The dry sauna wood is breaking up and you can barley sit on it because of how damaged it is. The steam room barley works, most days it doesn’t work. The locker room and the spa areas are always disgusting and smell awful. I only got this membership bc they had a steam room and I couldn’t find any other gyms w one. But I found one more than less than what I’m paying for this dirty gym. By the way if you want to cancel your membership they will give you every excuse in the books about their policies and billing cycles. You can apparently only cancel between certain days in the month. Otherwise you’ll be charged for the entire month you don’t want PLUS an additional $100 on top of that month fee that you DONT WANT. The employees here are NEVER on the same page about the policies and must not trained or something. This gym is absolute GARBAGE. You should look for better options bc I promise there are better ones. I can’t wait to be done with this trash facility.

Went to defined fitness metro today with the intent to join. I wanted to take a look around but they required a phone number, email address, and photo to verify my identity for their "liability waiver" just to look at the facility. Music is too loud, manager Randy Moore did not care or listen to feedback. The staff is sub-par when comaring them to other defined fitness clubs. I train regulary at 3 of the defined fitness clubs and have been a member for over 20 years. I am really disappointed with how this club has declined over the years under the recent management 😕 😪 😞

This location is closest to my house and has always been a little busted. From the pool not functioning for MONTHS to the worn out equipment to the perpetual smell of fresh excrement in the bathrooms, this place could be so much better than it is. The sauna is dark and scary and has a draft in the corners. I signed a year agreement but found myself avoiding this location due to the much needed maintenance.

Saturday 6/15/24 - unfortunately I made the mistake of leaving my water bottle/container, that's 100% on me. However I tried to call the metro location over 15 times in a 2 hr span and no one answered the phone. so either the phone is not working or 1 of the 5 employee at the front do not know how a land line phone works 🤔. either way I shouldn't have forgotten the bottle in the first place but yalls Frontline needs training on how to operate at phone . good luck 🚮

This place is NOT good. Incredibly disappointed. Their “functional fitness” section has old mismatched kettlebells and is incredibly narrow.

Their “deadlifting room”. One platform and no room for anything else. The bumper plate sticker-labels are all worn off and you will not know how much each plate weights. The barbells are old and sticky, they have little to no spin. The whole place feels dingy. The pool is out of service. The whole place is chopped up into many small odd rooms.

Just a bad overall layout with poor upkeep. Even the guy at the front desk stated, when asked about equipment, “well I don’t know much about fitness…”. I’m sorry, WHAT?! I have no confidence in this location or its staff.

In need of Brad Chavez- GM/ operations manager to contact in reference to an ADA violation and employee harassment. Update- I was contacted and advised that employees should not be cleaning machines while gym members are using them! Seems really an invasion of space and is very uncomfortable. The members will ask for your name over and over if you complain about the gym. They will state that you must be compliant with their demands as well. They update your account and leave notes are well. This gym is run by kids who assume they are in a position of power and are the law enforcement of the gym. I feel very uncomfortable with the staff of this location. The gym is always dirty and full of dirty employees!

And to add since everyone is so critical here. Wet floor signs after entering the bathroom were not placed. Hopefully some elderly individual doesn't fall.. he will own this place.

Do not go to the McLeod location if you’re interested in group classes. All of the equipment is outdated and no matter how many times customers complain, the owners refuse to update things. The pool has been shut down for over a month and they have no idea when it’ll be working again. Defined fitness has decided against reopening the steam rooms. Now the sauna is packed.

I’ve never been to a gym that defined so well fitness and metro combined. The club atmosphere ensure that the riff-raff never make it in and ensures that when I’m playing squash I don’t get interrupted by the poors while I’m trying concentrate on my backhand. The gold leaf filtered in the swimming pool really makes my skin glow after I finish my daily routine of watching Paul do 40 laps while I sip on an Irish in the jacuzzi. One of the ways in which they ensure top class members is with how the front desk staff interacts with prospective members using rich language and ensures that the club members never have to interacts with lower class peasants. Favorite sports club outside Europe. Well Done.

I normally go to the Sandia location but I’ve recently moved closer to the Metro location and wanted to start using it more often. However, I’ve gotta saw I was very disappointed in the cleanliness and in comparison to the Sandia Location, it left MUCH to be desired. Here are a few observations:

- the women’s bathroom was extremely filthy. TP all over the floor in various stalls, 7 stalls were gross with un-flushed bowls and even poop on the seat. The clean stall I ended up using was out of TP (which I didn’t realize until it was too late). All but one of the sinks were out of soap. A few lockers I opened had trash inside.
- the blue mats in front of the bikes were sticky and some even had the material peeling off the surface.
- The water fountains have mold growing on the surface.
- a lot of the dumbbells were not racked or not racked in their proper spot so it was hard to find the correct weights.

That’s all. I think even though it adds like 10 extra min to my commute each way, I’ll keep going to the Sandia Location until this one improves.

I like this gym and been going off and on for years. Not a body builder gym with grunting gorillas for most part, but has really good equipment selection and enough for the jacked dudes. Daycare is cool, friendly staff, clean. There are some people that seem to be doing private training and hog equipment while talking a lot.. looking at you curly haired woman.

Good value. Great hours. Open on holidays. Staff is nice. Members are friendly. No meatheads ! Not crowded. Adequate equipment regardless what others have posted. The only issue is there are almost ten employees on the clock at any one time and few if any are cleaning. The problem may be retention. So if management demands the employees actually work hard cleaning turnover will be even worse. A gym with traffic needs constant cleaning. A manager told me they use fancy proprietary cleaning products. All that’s needed is bleach and hot water and a mop for all the surfaces and especially the wet areas. No fancy products. They neglect the pool, restrooms and locker rooms etc. The toilets are growing goteas. Just needs more attention. Elbow grease.

The weights and auxiliary equipment are all kept in place and order.

The employees on the clock need to be made to work instead of relaxing and socializing moderation). Earn their money. Keep vacuuming and mopping the floors. Whip down the weight benches and machines. Kill the algae in the pool. Bleach down the floors and all the surfaces in the wet areas. Kill the bacteria, viruses and fungus.

Just because members are not paying Sports and Wellness rates doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the same standard.

That being said the gym is far from being unkept like gross clubs. Defined is much cleaner than those budget gyms. I don’t want to give you the wrong idea. It just could be a little cleaner and I feel it will be with the high quality management and employees in place.

This gym has gotten beyond disappointing. For some of us that count on “before work showers” and basic cleanliness it’s well below what you would hope for being a paid member. I’ve been to community centers with better up keep and cleaning routines. I guess they won’t care until someone gets a staph infection and files a lawsuit or whatnot. I used to love Defined so I actually find it hard to complain but when you get into those showers they leave you no choice (especially when you see so many employees standing at the desk just talking). Idk if the upper management doesn’t know or care but either way it is highly unacceptable. If you’re looking to join a gym in Albuquerque stay away from this one. Posted with this review is a shower curtain three feet from a water spigot that could hose down these showers at any time.

This gym has always been cared for very poorly! There are only maybe 6 shower stalls (women's), and 2 are always out of order. The floors and walls are falling apart (big chips in the tiles, etc), and in those places, the dry wall is coming off. The ceiling has fallen down in places, and they just keep patching it with a very poorly done job. The shower curtains are so old they have holes in them... the same ones have been hanging there for at the at least 6 years! They are so cheap that once, the curtains were so bad that they needed replaced, but instead of doing that, they simply cut them in half, vertically, so that they were a thin strip in the opening. I went and bought shower curtains myself and put them up. The water pressure goes terrible, and as soon as someone else turns one on, it goes down even further! Usually, now I go to a different one, but I went because one of DFs best water instructors was supposed to be teaching that day. I will never go to that one again!

Since they have fixed the pool and such it's always a nice gym to go to. I like that the employees will treat me like a member and call me by name and they are always friendly and such. The only thing lately is that the locker room for women hasn't been kept very clean. Also as a suggestion maybe have someone go in and check more regularly especially when it's busy and people are on and out from showering and coming in from the pool. They could be checked every 15 minutes

Don’t do it! Their pool smells like rotten eggs, and their employees let it slip it was closed because it failed their health inspection! Equipment is ALWAYS down! It’s so run down, and the staffs only concern is protecting their bottom line. Not to mention the shady business practices! The guy who signed me up used his email so I wouldn’t get the contract information! Oh, and if the auto pay they force you on doesn’t go through, even if you call the day it’s due, they’ll charge you an extra $35! I brought it up that I never got that information cause I didn’t get the email, they agreed and saw iin their system that an unrelated email was attached to my account, updated it, and still charged me the extra fees. Then if you try to pay early, they make a big fuss about it? Probably because they know they can’t milk more money out of you. You’re better off at any other gym. Trust me, their pool alone has caused actual medical issues for me that mysteriously went away when I stopped swimming in it! Spare yourself and your pockets and avoid this gross, run down, poorly maintained gym!

Absolutely disgusted with this Defined Fitness location. Pool and hot tub have been down for months. Each time I call for updates on repairs, front staff has no idea what is going on. They provide no ETA on repairs. It all comes down to management. Lousy business plan and horrible way to treat customers. I am joining another club that treats customers better and lets us know what is going on!

Ok I have read all the recent negative reviews, here’s my input. I have been going to gyms for over 40 years. YMCA, Tom Young’s, Sports and Welllness, and Defined. Sports and Wellness was by far the cleanest and best run, however for a family membership it is over $200/month. You get what you pay for. I was a member of Defined briefly around the early 2000s and just joined again early this year. This gym pretty much looks the same as it did in 2002. The aerobic machines have been updated but everything else seems to be the same equipment. Not that that is a bad thing, weights are hard to wear out. You can go to the gym to work out or hang out in the locker rooms which seem adequate to me. Locker rooms are for changing! People at the desk always greet me and acknowledge me when I leave. I do see staff wiping down machines, etc. 4 stars.

Alright! This was good to me the Frist few months and then everything when down hill. Talk about addressing concerns about their facility and asking why everything is always broken. Their Sauna was Closed for 6 months and talk about the Smell in that place.. gross..
and when you complain. THEY DON'T CARE...

Employees are nice, gym floor is fine , but the bathrooms need alot of attention shower have mold on some spots and door at the toilets don't close or will open up when someone closes or open the stall next to it. Steam room, sauna are out of order .

Nothing at this corporate run gym will make you feel like you're getting your money's worth.
Although the staff is friendly they are only working a corporate angle to sell memberships.
There is rarely a time when the gym isn't over run with too many people and the facilities at all locations show the wear and tear.
Finally when you're year long contract is up they make it as difficult as possible to terminate the contract.
Oh, and don't have a legitimate medical reason to cancel either or they may try to violate your HIPPA rights by asking you to show your medical records to exit gracefully.
They are corporate robots through and through with very little dedication to keeping members happy.
Do yourself a favor and join one of the many locally owned and family based gyms or spa's around NM.
Your money will be better spent.

Nice gym but the male stalls are small. Hard to wipe and the dispenser for TP is literally in your lap. The bathrooms/ locker rooms need update.

I really like Defined, but this location is okay at best. Compared to the Juan Tabo location, where I usually go, this one is rough.
Definitely a smaller location overall, which makes it very cramped, especially when it's busy.
There's simply isn't enough room for all the machines AND the people that want to use them.
There's only a few racks and parking is always a nightmare to top it all off.

I am very impressed with this gym. I really like the old school feel of this gym. Operations Manager Matthew really has this gym looking great. I workout at the Defined Fitness Capital Club in Santa Fe and what I noticed immediately was all machines are functioning and operational to be used. Not like the Santa Fe gym where it seems like every other machine is broken. Thank you. Keep up the awesome job.

Great place if you love old man sweat!

If you go during a weekday, you'll find lots of old men who don't bother to wipe down their equipment after they're done and the employees won't do anything about it. In fact, I've never seen an employee cleaning the machines themselves despite being there nearly daily and at various times. Instead, you'll find 3-6 employees standing around the front desk hanging out. They don't bother to refill the paper towels or spray bottles. For what they charge, you can find newer equipment, better services, and cleaner facilities elsewhere.

Edit: I know now why it's as dirty as it is. Your "Detail" guy with the beard and arm tattoos has been following a woman around the gym flirting with her. Poor girl looks super uncomfortable. Oh and the other 4 employees still standing around the drink fridge gossiping. Not sure what you'd need to contact me for, it's pretty clear from the reviews the issues. Maybe staff a manager who has more experience than a few years out of high school?

The Metro Location on McCloud has gone downhill since covid. It was great for so many years but now it's become a slum. The women's dressing room and pool area are dirty, smelly and becoming a hazard. The hot tub is rarely working, steamroom has been shut for over 2 years and the floor of the sauna recently had gum wrappers and used water bottle on the floor. Sadly, it's finally time for me to give ot up.

**Edit 2 in response to defined fitness response. I have called and email the manager at the McCloud location, so if your happy to help respond to the attempts at communication I have made.

Edit* Two months later after multiple conversations with the manager who refused to refund the majority of the charges, because it was not defined fitness's fault, but assured me my account was closed, Defined fitness tried again to charge my account.

Unless you plan to stay at this gym forever I would avoid it like the plague. They act like they never got your cancelation notice and then continue to charge you.

When you call them out on it they say they never received your notice despite you giving it in writing and email.

The gym itself is fine, the cancellation process is a pain. They will try and fleece you for every penny with made up fees and cancellation problems and paperwork. You're going to end up having to block them on your credit card.

Very disappointed in the gym today. They turned their music in the gym which is music I don’t like up so loud I cannot even hear what I was listening to through my earbuds. If they continue to do this I will go to a different gym
