I was a fan of the YMCA until I went in to cancel my membership. They said they had a 30-day cancellation policy, which was never explained to me, but itβs whatever. Then, since the new bill would be within those 30 days, I have to pay for an additional 30 days, and they refused to provide-rate to match the 30day window which is ridiculous! So instead of a 30-day cancellation policy, in reality, itβs a 60-day cancellation if you donβt go on the exact day your account is scheduled to bill.
I strongly suggest people rethink their memberships with this kind of policy in place ! I am clearly canceling for a reason and now Iβm stuck paying for a whole additional month outside of that 30day window

Such a great facility & fun place. Great mountain view from the work-out equipment. Very nice specialty areas, group exercise, Zen Den, boxing, separate
serious training area, great basketball gym, amazing kid room with gaming stations & homework area. Everything top notch, well-maintained.

Excellent little gym, all the necessary equipment (mostly new), not overcrowded, friendly, and clean. All age groups represented, including children, if that bothers you. My only gripe is with the private shower rooms, they need an update. Someone's going to hurt themselves.

I love this facility. The staff are friendly and helpful. They have evening childcare from 5:30-7:30 Monday- Thursday which is great. The only improvements are to increase their childcare to Friday and possibly Saturday. They also don't have a pool but the other location does. The gym is clean and I rarely need to wait for any of my workout. I Also enjoyed the classes. Stephanie is amazing! Jacques is a manager and he is really welcoming. He remembers names and is very encouraging. I highly recommend for anyone needing family friendly support.

It's honestly a good gym with new, clean equipment and for the most part friendly staff. My only complaint is their showers don't have consistent hot water. I gave up trying to shower there because only 2 times out of 5 the water got hot. A good place to work out, but not if you need to clean up right after.

I enrolled my son in the 5yr old youth basketball program. It was an extreme disappointment. 3 weeks in, the coach quit and we were moved to another location. There was no communication. By the fourth week, most of the kids stopped showing up. I called the director multiple times, but couldn't get a response. I'm still waiting for either a refund or reassignment to a new team.

I went here with the John the myth the legend, and we had a marvelous leg day. We saw a flag with 48 stars, some kid trip outside, and the professional E-sports team in the basement. If I could describe it in one word it would be paradise. I love this place!!! Just wish it was a little closer to where I live instead of 10 hour drive.

The facility is older, but the equipment is new, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The best part is the distinct lack of crowds and hardbody gym culture, there is no need for any shame or embarrassing if you are just getting started. The price is fair and there are trainers and classes available if needed.

The summer program was a nice change for my children! They made tons of friends & loved the field trips. There were lots of staff members which reassured me that my children would be looked after.
The director of the childcare program, Sarah, could have used an assistant or staff to help her manage her workload. Voicemails and emails went unanswered the entire summer. Iβm less peeved knowing we werenβt the only family who did not receive a single response.

One of the best Y's I have visited overall. Big and not crowded, with a lot of equipment there. The "BLM" logo at the front desk seems inappropriate, now everyone coming to exercise is subjected to the left's race politics. Scant reference to religious faith in the facility meanwhile.

The absolute worst.
They do not care about your kids only about the dollars coming in.
Roberto the president will treat you low when you tell him the things wrong about certain programs.

Private shower = best YMCA I have come across yet! Only thing to make the private shower better would be a seat (other than the toilet) for after showering. Not sure why the elevator wouldn't come to the level with the private showers, but luckily I could still climb the few stairs despite my disability.

Don't use this for youth Volleyball. My daughter is trying volleyball for the first time. They assigned us a teenage coach even when some parents said they would do it. The coach instituted championship level substituting. My daughter is not great as it is her first season, but some games she hardly got to play while the more advanced girls never came out. According to the YMCA we dote, this was supposed to be a developmental league. The worst part is when I sent three emails to the athletic director the only response I got was, "we have passed your comments along to the sports director." No changes were ever made and no response was given. This is concerning if they can't even respond to a simple request. I don't want to know what happens when I have a real issue that actually needs attention. Don't send your daughter to play here unless she already knows how to play volleyball or you are going to be adamant about volunteering.

My daughter participated in the fall volleyball. The coach and team were awesome. The ref was mean spirited and not there for the kids. She would hide behind her lap top and drink coffee. Nice clean facility, easy to reach from San Mateo and I-40. Staff are upbeat, helpful and friendly. Especially a good deal for seniors. Many medicare advantage plans cover the membership, giving access to various classes. Fees for a trainer are the best in town (IMO). My current trainer will be moving soon to Lincoln Neb for grad school (yay for him, sad get me. I am sure he will hand me on to someone equally skilled and attuned to seniors' needs.

My husband and I visited ABQ for the National Senior Games this past week. ABQ opened their arms to all the athletes from across the nation. I would like to thank the staff at this YMCA for their kindness and support. I was able to work out prior to my matches. The Governor was generous to allow the athletes to use the wonderful facilities. My women's 60 year old team did get in the silver bracket but was not fortunate enough to come out with a medal. It was great to have come from Maryland to play at such a high level. My whole experience in Albuquerque, New Mexico was a fantastic one. Thank you.

I've been a member here for about 1.5 years.
The pros:
-free childcare w/ competent workers who genuinely seem interested in your child.
-almost never crowded and the members here are unpretentious folk who just enjoy fitness
-friendly staff who want to get to know you
-reasonable membership fees
-It is a very clean facility
The cons:
-Childcare has very limited hours. There are classes that I would sometimes like to attend but there is no childcare during those hours.
-The equipment selection is small and a bit outdated, but seems to be improving over time.
-The sports director seems very disorganized. We asked for a basketball to shoot hoops on the court and he did not know where either the basketball or a pump (the ball was very flat once it was found) could be located.
Overall this is a good medium sized gym. Compared to other YMCA's around the country however it is behind the times. I feel it is in need of some rejuvenating and modernizing. Hopefully with the addition of the new functional fitness/large weight room this can happen.

Nice staff and great machines with plenty of non-overcrowded space for cardio, weights etc. A small gym for basketball and volleyball too! Even have a family shower/changing room.
The pitiful part about this Y is it could have been amazing if they had not filled the swimming pool with concrete after about 18 months of brain-storming what to do. I cancelled our membership and my family joined a competitor gym. Build a new pool and people will come!

I made multiple attempts to get my son registered for one of their sporting activities. I spoke to the receptionist at the front, but she had absolutely no clue on what activities were available. I also asked to speak to someone who would have knowledge of the activities offered but again she didn't know who I could talk to and recommended just looking at the website. I will say that they have a decent website and even offer the ability to register online. However, when I went to register for the activity I was interested in it there wasn't an option to register for it. After multiple attempts, I called the facility a couple of times and left voicemails. No response. I ended up getting my son registered in i9 sports, which so far has been a much better experience. I ended up speaking to a couple of other parents, and each of them had bad experiences with this YMCA and one of them was successful in getting their son registered in soccer but said it was poorly ran. I guess I should be happy that I was able to avoid this poorly run facility.

Poor management. The pool was permanently closed, and the management seems to be incapable of planning for its refurbishment. The weight room is crowded. I thought that the $56 monthly membership was overpriced for the limited services provided. If they got the pool back, I would rejoin. Parking lot is often close to full and they can't get the pool running = bad management.

Be advised that as of summer 2016 the pool has been closed permanently, for lack of funds needed for upkeep. You should visit and see if the facilities are worth it to you - but they're run down, the machines are overused and poorly maintained, cleanliness could be a lot better, and the whole place gives the sense that it's on the way out.

Visited from out of state a little over a month ago. Walked in. Waited. Receptionist seemed swamped. That or she couldn't handle her job. I asked if they participated in the Y Away program. She frantically waved me by and told me to just go in. I asked where the locker room was. She frantically pointed, "Down there!" I went in. She didn't ask to see my membership card or ask for I.D. It's not like I was a regular; I'm from PA. I was carrying a decent sized gym bag. Could have had a gun in there. Could have been a registered sex offender. Building full of children.

The original Albuquerque YMCA at 4901 Indian School Road was built in the 1940's
, I believe , and considering the volume of people that have used this structure since
it's opening , it's held up well . The building is certainly not aesthetic competition for
the spiffy looking health spas about town . But it also lacks expensive fees to
use state-of-the-art equipment , in an ultra modern building with narcissistic trainers
where no kids are allowed .
For people on a limited budget , like myself , it's NOT a completely insufficient place to help stay physically fit and interact with other community minded people .
The staff is very helpful . I lost 87 pounds with their exercise plan . It ain't all bad !
