Have been trying to call our local PF as I have inquiries I would like addressed before I join. I’d go in person but broke my ankle and won’t be driving for a month give or take. I did not base this on a single phone call but more than 3 and no one ever answered. Very sad!!!

This is a very nice gym, IMHO. Lots and lots of machines, free weights, dumbbells, you name it! They also have 3 hydro massage beds. Very clean as well.

Went in to sign up. Stood at the desk over 10 minutes, no employee ever showed up. Guess this isn't the gym for me. Best to find out up front I suppose that if you need anything they won't help. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Even called in case the person had a phone with them. Nada. Yes, I would like to say overall experience is not bad. I do have to agree with other reviewers that showers would have issues where it was cold for long periods of times more than when it was warm (emphasizing warm only). Owner's response to make experience better by letting staff know is maybe limited without owner permission/approval. Example: improvement or approvals for new equipment and additions were not within the staff control without owner efforts. For example staff mentioned possible addition of plates and changes to 30 minute workout area, but no change has been made for over a year. Two, I inquired about some equipment I have seen at other Planet Fitness locations were different or not included at my local spot. It was explained that it is in the hands of the owner to decide what equipment will be included. If anything, owner should maybe give staff more control in the approval process for changes based on customer provided inputs. Other than that the staff are very resourceful and make the gym experience great with what they have available and keep the place in good running condition. As far as quantity of equipment, I would say additional stair steppers would be good. They get used quite frequently which limits availability for other customers to use (even at 30 minute intervals customers use the machine). I would say the rest of the cardio machine are a good amount. If a cardio machine were to require service there are still enough to go around. However, for cable machines, if one goes down there is not another machine to perform that exercise and will cause free weights or the machine pull up bar station to be used and have a bench place in the middle for certain exercises. Adding a glute raise machine would be spectacular and would open up the smith machine for customers for squats or bench presses which would increase smith machine availability.

Fake Smiles, Real Exploitation – This Is Not a Fitness CenterI was a dedicated, respectful member of this gym—until the Alamogordo Planet Fitness made it clear that they don’t value integrity, health, or community. What they do value? Control, appearances, and extracting money from anyone who doesn’t stay quiet.

I wiped down every machine, followed every policy, and used the gym as a place of real healing. But the second I asked questions about shady billing—specifically, how late fees were applied even with backup funds available—I was slapped with vague accusations, labeled a “policy violator,” and terminated. No warning. No explanation. Just erased.

Four days after they drafted a $41 annual fee from my account.

That was the last straw, but not the first. This location has been deteriorating for years:

• Showers? Routinely clogged with hair balls that sit for days.
• Temperature control? Cold showers for years—now scalding.
• Soap dispensers? Broken and not fixed for weeks or longer.
• Shower curtains? Rarely replaced in time.
• Changing booths? Rarely cleaned, if at all.
• Night cleaning? Doesn’t happen. Staff leave early, shutting off facilities half an hour before closing time and locking the doors the second the clock strikes.

The front desk staff? Robotic. Disconnected. They’re not there to support members—they’re there to check boxes and collect paychecks. They’ll parrot a fake “have a good night” at you whether you’re having a breakdown or just walked out of a freezing shower. The energy is plastic, forced, and completely devoid of actual care.

And here’s the part that’s hardest to say: They act like they’re untouchable. Toxic attitudes. Power games. Zero accountability. If you comply and don’t ask questions, you’ll be fine. But if you expect basic respect, you’ll be labeled a problem.

Planet Fitness Alamogordo doesn’t deserve to be called a fitness center. It’s a place where people like me—who genuinely show up to care for themselves—are driven out while broken systems, apathetic staff, and unclean conditions are protected by policy shields and corporate silence.

I hope someone in power reads this and decides to hold this location accountable. But if not, let this review stand as a warning to the next member walking through those doors with hope in their heart:
You deserve better. This is not it.

I travel a lot and go to a lot of different planet fitness gyms. This 1 didn't have any of the new equipment the others have and didn't even have some of the older weight machines the other ones have. It was smaller too. Of course they have 50 billion cardio machines (way more than people would use), but the weight machines were definitely lacking.

Was visiting from out of town and wanted to get in a workout. Was able to get a free day pass which was nice. The gym was pretty nice and decently clean. I was surprised at how rude s couple of gym goers were even just asking if they were or weren't using a piece of equipment, but whatever, that's just my experience. The cable machines were absolutely slammed for an early evening during a work week. And three guys were hogging the pec deck for the entire hour i was there.

I found the anomaly in the Planet Fitness group. Every Planet Fitness that I've been to over the past 2 years and in several state has been exceptionally clean. This facility's Women's room was a disaster. 2 of 4 toilets didn't work, 2 of 4 sinks didn't work and the showers had hair clogging the drain.

This location has a known water problem. There is no hot water in the men’s shower, and a sink and multiple stalls have been out of order for a long time in the women’s room. The sewer smell is awful. And the shower curtains are pretty gross.

Considering how long reviews like this have been posted, the owner/manager obviously knows the plumbing is an issue. It seems to be intentional- maybe they don’t want to spend the money to fix the problem.

Customer service is mediocre at best. Waited in front of the counter to talk to somebody and I was basically brushed off while somebody else was being attended to. The equipment does look clean but they also don't have what I'm looking for besides the lack of communication skills. One person behind the counter who stated he does not work here but used to was no help at all and the only communication I got was from one of the customers. There's other options

I like that it's not a muscle gym, people can lift weights there, but it has a different feel than other gyms. I like that it's just regular people wanting to get or stay healthy. I like the variety of machines and there's plenty of them so you don't have to wait for one. The staff is friendly and works hard to keep everything running smoothly. I did really like that it wasn't super loud when we did our tour, but it seems like they have turned up the music since then which seems like it's for the staff because most people have earbuds in. I really like the black card perks, especially the hydrobed and massage chairs.

Only used the showers while on the road after visiting white sands national park. Water was hot and then warm for both myself (women’s) and my husband (men’s) for good 10-15 min showers. The stalls are a little bigger than most PF, but the women’s side showers looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time - lots of hair and soap scum. Same with their water fountain, the bottle filler is broken and the fountains need to be cleaned badly.

UPDATE: I canceled my membership a little over a year ago not out of dissatisfaction but because I was moving. Apparently they are supposed to give you something to sign when you cancel in person but the girl who performed the action looked at her computer screen and said I was canceled. About 5-6 months ago I switched my bank card because of fraud. Well, I am knee deep in fraud with this planet fitness. They somehow got a hold of my new bank card and charged me nearly $300 for a membership I cancelled. They are still charging me! I have been in contact with their accounts receivable for the fourth and last time last week. My first contact I was told, "we couldn't have charged you, we only have your old form of payment." I explained the charge came from the Alamogordo planet fitness. In fact I contacted them via their telephone which was Attached to the charge literally in my bank account. One girl got in touch with me over a month ago who said I would receive a refund for every charge that was made on the card they weren't authorized to use! I wrote them AGAIN last week asking someone to get back to me by today. They have done nothing. Their customer service is great when you're using their services, but when it comes to theft, they're not so "customer service" interested. I will never join another Planet Fitness and my next step is to go to my bank with fraud charges. I have been avoiding it trying to give someone a chance to fix this. That obviously is not going to happen. When you cancel make SURE they give you something to sign!

Excellent gym. Friendly staff. Cordial conversation with multiple staff have been welcoming and uplifting for exercise and working out. Great selection of machines, walking options and free weights. Clean, fresh equipment. Perfect location within Alamogordo, NM. The music playlist is decent, especially on 'Rock' Friday! Clean Lockers, showers and locker room. I definitely would recommend Alamogordo Planet Fitness for your choice for exercise and getting fit, gone with the 'flab!' I will be back to visit Alamogordo Planet Fitness! I've been a black card member of PF in Alamogordo for going on a year now. The staff is friendly, courteous, and sympathetic. They wouldn't need to be so sympathetic if this wasn't the second winter without hot water in the men's showers. Apparently that is not a high priority for Planet Fitness or management.

Good has all the basics of a planet fitness. It's a smaller version of all the planet fitness I've been to. Seems to be kept cleanish. The treadmills and stairclimbers are way to close to each other. Thats my only complaint but they have limited space so its somewhat understandable.

This planet fitness has the best staff! My wife and I have black cards so we can visit all the planet fitnesses around the country because we travel a lot, but this one far exceeds any one we've visited. We have gym memberships at other gyms for hitting heavier weights or going for PR's with free weights, but if you can't get gains at Planet Fitness, you're not doing it right. People think they gave to go to these gyms that have crazy weight, and equipment they usually don't know how to use, but this gym has everything you need if you know what you're doing.

If you are new to working out, or if you enjoy going to a conventional gym, this is a good choice. The staff has always acted in a professional manner when interacting with me, and the place is always super clean. This is my first experience with PF, and I'd have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is an excellent facility. The equipment is maintained really well, and they have all the basics for you to get in a pretty good workout. They do not, however, have any barbells. For someone who prefers Olympic lifting or training with abnormal equipment, as I do (i.e., tires, ropes, etc), this won't necessarily be your jam. But, if you are looking for something convenient and reasonably priced, this is a great choice. The hydrobed is absolutely amazing. I always use it at the end of my workout.

I am a current member that lives out of town and needs to use the showers. However since the winter began the hot water has been turned off since Nov. I mean how can you as a business charging clients not provide everything you say you will? I feel like this is a breach of contract for what I pay.

I wanted to join Planet Fitness but they ask me for my bank account number plus a credit or debit card for a no-commitment plan of 15.00 dollars a month. Basically it's a minimal gym, compared to a more moderate size LA Fitness/Gold's. Great for the price if you don't mind short waits occasionally for equipment.

The most popular area seems to be the front where the free weights are as well as a few smith machines. Had to pay attention during peak hours since benches were being taken fast. Which my only gripe lies with because I really wish this section was a little bigger to accommodate and not feel like everyone was pushed into this particular corner.

The manager is a joke. He puts the happiness of his “bros” over the health and safety of the other members. The mask rules were never really taken serious there and then people just started ignoring them altogether at the height of the pandemic in Otero County, when I approached him about it, he got an attitude with me like I was wrong for addressing it. Mind you at the time wearing masks was a state wide law, he then got my membership revoked. LOL. He’s a clown and shouldn’t be managing anything if he can’t take constructive criticism and be better.
