I've only been going here for a couple months, but I really love it. It's low-key, people aren't recording workouts and doing that whole thing. The whole place (including machines) is always clean, and the sauna is nice and hot which is hard to find at other gyms. The staff is always friendly and attentive. This is my favorite gym I've ever been a member of.

I loved working out here while I was on vacation. They have a very clean mens room with a steam room and sauna! Spacious and comfortable; very kind and welcoming staff too. This is my go-to now if I ever am in New Mexico!

I would like to focus on the positive aspects of my visit. We primarily went for a tour, and I was pleasantly surprised by how attentive, accommodating, and friendly the staff were. The facility itself is quite large and well-equipped. I appreciated that there was no high-pressure sales pitch, and the membership options were clear and straightforward.

While they do offer classes, it would be great if they could expand the hours to better accommodate working individuals. During my visit, it felt like I stepped into a time warp; perhaps it was just the timing of my visit, but the demographic seemed to skew much older. However, for the price point, everything felt appropriate.

Overall, it was a good experience, and if I were looking for a gym in the future, I would highly consider this one, with some room for improvement.

Great gym with a wide variety of equipment. Personally, I don't like the community. Before you get a membership, you can have a free gym day and take a class for free. While I was in the gym and while I was taking a class, people were making fun of me; not exactly the most supported environment. I won't go back. Please note these aren't young vain people. The majority of the people that are at this gym are older people.

Been working out here off and on for a year, really like it.

Last week I left my wedding band in the women's locker room. I called, John secured it, and it was returned to me on my next visit.

Great gym, good equipment, worth it for the no contract and steam room & sauna.

This gym is well equipped and extremely accommodating. My husband and I have enjoyed working out here, and I just wanted to encourage the community that if you’re looking for a friendly place that works well with its customers, you should definitely come to this gym! They will let you try this out in short increments, even as short as one week, to see if you like it. I’m so glad we have a place like this to work out close to our home with excellent service. Thanks to all of you!

I’m new in town but with a pretty severe injury and surgery. Not only did the owner, John, stop his day to listen to my story, but he was immediately accommodating with some disability needs I had. The facility is also clean and well maintained. More than anything, the family owned feeling is prevalent and the owners stand by their establishment. Nice, hot, private dry sauna in the locker room too.

New review. December 2024.

From a long time client. I have been a member since 1995, but a dramatic change in the gym environment with the recent developments in management and ownership. Clients are getting very disrespectful and aggressive. The new so-called trainers are there for show and spending time posing for videos and selfies , and this behavior fits into the area of being disrespectful along with the severe lack of gym etiquette, as well as unprofessional. Sad to see my gym die a slow death

I've been attending the Santa Fe Spa since signing a professional baseball contract as a lefthanded baseball pitcher in 1986. In the winter of 1989, I flew south to pitch in winter league beisbol in Mexico and injured by pitching elbow. Thinking the worst, I returned home to Santa Fe and my orthopedic doctor placed my arm in a cast. Then I signed with a team in the New York-Penn League in 1090. I needed therapy and thats when I met Michael Hoerning at (Turquoise Trail Therapy) the Santa Fe Spa. In six month's he miraculously healed my injured elbow to where I pitched for another thirty-one year's, (pitching in 587 games for 200 team's, winning 459 amateur games until the age of 57!) Having a massive hemorrhagic stroke and going into month long coma.

As the game of baseball was not at the top of my list as I was discharged from the hospital and started the therapy process with St. Vincent's Outpatient Sports Medicine & Therapy some twenty-one month's ago, I was reunited with Hoerning once again.

We started and have maintained the past six month's together with what he's prescribed as NDT (Neuro Development Training.) In his words, " you need to crawl before you can start walking." So here we are today, some short six month's since our therapy started and he has be almost walking on my own, (albeit with the use of only a cane) a far cry from when I was using a wheelchair, to a walker, to a Hemi-Style walker, and now to using a cane.

Once again I am starting to fly to be reunited with my Boston Wolfpack teammates and my new life goal is to one day make a comeback and walk back atop the pitcher's mound and do what I always did best in life, pitch a baseball...

I owe it all to both Michael Hoerning, Tamara Lichtenstein, and the wonderful staff and ownership of the Santa Fe Spa for all they've done for me to allow me to again one day dream of pitching a baseball and beating the odds of healing and getting back on my feet and walking again. I was given only a 10% chance of doing this... But I'm going to not only beat the odds, I will pitch and win again. For "I am ALIVE!"

Best regards,

J. Rodney Tafoya

Our favorite gym in Santa Fe. Clean, well-organized space with well-maintained equipment. Service is great. Modifications to accommodate the pandemic are well thought out also. A great place to stay fit when you can't get outside! Update, 1/28/24: still a fine gym with updated lifting frames and reupholstered equipment.

Excellent gym and facility!!! Since joining not only are the staff the most friendly, it's like being among family here! I've been to most facilities in Santa Fe and the machines and weights are excellent! My strength, flexibility, and cardio have improved dramatically!!! Especially using the air piston machines and nautilus type! Using just weights at the other gyms was the same old thing, but at 62 years old this place changed my physique and condition! The sauna & steam room also cannot be beat here as I've tried them all over town! Santa Fe Spa has the best!!!

I have owned and operated gyms for 30+ years. As a former professional bodybuilder, I have worked out in more gyms than I can count. There are VERY few REAL gyms left, sadly. But I know that when I’m in Santa Fe, I can always count on the availability and variety of good quality equipment. And I’m EXTREMELY picky! Always a pleasure to workout here - it’s literally, spotless. Thanks, SFS!!

Staff were friendly and helpful. If I lived in SF, I'd join, and if I go back for an extended stay, I'll sign up again. Completely pleased.

Class Act
Locally-owned family-operated Santa Fe Spa is a class act. Randy, John, Ian, and Jesus Lujan go out of their way to make every person who walks in the door feel welcome and comfortable. They remember your name. If you put a 5 in the vending machine to get some juice or water and get a bunch of quarters back they may offer to exchange them for dollar bills so you don't have to carry extra change in your pocket! Unbelievable. You don't find this level of consistently excellent service anywhere.

The Spa gets it. They know that building positive relationships with people is more important than a short-term transaction mentality. This tone is set by manager Randy Montoya, a consummate professional.

Most popular gym in Santa Fe
One of the things I love most about the Spa is the extraordinary diversity here. This is not an exclusive gym, it's a very inclusive gym indeed, one reason the Spa is the most popular gym in town. Here you get a cross-section of the entire Santa Fe population: rich, poor, young, old, black, white, hispanic, native American, gay, straight, etc., and everyone just gets along.

Santa Fe Style
This is not Boulder, Colorado. In the parking lot you may see a Ferrari and an old broken-down blue Subaru but inside you can't tell who the drivers may be: consistent with Santa Fe Style people here are not status-conscious. No fancy workout clothes here, that's not the Santa Fe way; most people simply wear shorts and t-shirts.

It's a very laid-back, relaxed, genuinely friendly atmosphere. You've got your social types who love to socialize as well as quiet types who just want to work out and everyone just gets along.

Celebrities' Choice
Perhaps that's why so many local celebrities work out here. On any given day you may see Gene Hackman, Christopher Lloyd, Lou Diamond Phillips, or Neal Patrick Harris working out right next to you.

Convenient
The Spa is open 361 days of the year, closing for only 4 major holidays. There's nothing more frustrating than showing up at the gym for a great workout only to discover that it's closed for some minor holiday. And they don't close in the middle of the day like some gyms do.

Personal Training Center of Santa Fe
Santa Fe is blessed with an abundance of great trainers. Most of them train at Santa Fe Spa. Why? Because owner John Montoya wisely made the Spa an open platform for training rather than a closed shop. This is a huge asset to the membership.

Many gyms have 3 or 4 trainers on staff, an entry-level position in our field, but the Spa is the only place in town that offers a selection of over 40 professional self-employed trainers working as independent contractors. Already have a trainer? No problem, they can train you here unlike closed shops where your choice is limited to a handful of staff trainers.

Different strokes for City Different folks
There are many great gyms in Santa Fe. If you're an avid tennis player you may prefer El Gancho. If you're an Olympic-Style Weightlifter you may prefer Carl & Sandra's Gym. If you're a hardcore bodybuilder you may prefer Mandrill's Gym. If you're a fighter you may prefer Undisputed Fitness. If you like a women-only environment you may prefer Fitness Plus. These are all great gyms.

But for all-around general fitness, especially if you work with or would like to work with a personal trainer, I highly recommend Santa Fe Spa, the friendliest gym in Santa Fe.

Great gym. All my interactions with the staff and other members have been nothing but positive. Members from diverse demographics (age, background, occupation) with varying levels of commitment to fitness. The facility itself is roomy and clean; the hours allow for flexible schedules. Nice selection of equipment and machines. Machines break occasionally, but no more frequently than other places. Big problem with this gym is the cleanliness. I have been a member for over 2 years and it ranges from dirty to filthy. There is grunge in the showers that dates back to the Bush era. Every piece of equipment has a pile of crud underneath it. It is as though they never clean it. The place needs to be closed for a couple of days and thoroughly steam-cleaned, or at least they need to hire a better cleaning staff and/or supervise them more closely. I have to shower here because I go straight to work after my workout, but wish that I didn't.

The Santa Fe Spa gym is among the best -- I've worked out and taken classes at gyms from New York City to San Francisco. I was immediately met with pleasant, professional desk staff and offered an equipment orientation. I was impressed with the friendly, clean environment with people of all ages. The facility feels fun & upbeat, the staff responsible & professional. Their trainers are top of the line. The gym is spotless and the women's locker room is spacious and has a wonderful steam room.

I've been working out at SF spa for the last 17 years . Since coming to gym the owner have continued to upgrade his facility ranging from the locker rooms to the workout room and to the aerobic room. I love to lift weights and the gym is a full fitness gym by far. I was happy to be one of his staff members/trainer for a number of years and was always treated with fairness and part of the family. The gym has a great staff who put great effort into remembering everyone name so the can feel happy to be in a place that promotes health. Just come on in and you'll see for yourself that being healthy is not so bad, its actually fun.:))

Smiling faces from staff upon arrival. Very worth 10$ a day, and thankfully that is an option. Over all clean and i always see someone wiping down equipment. Shower stalls are dark and ceiling fan's hairy. Always love the steam room and sauna!! Always equipment to use, never a wait. Classes can be tight so get there early--although if your a regular I see other's holding spots for their friends...not so nice for newbee's. great location. wish they had a pool and a larger cardio room--only 1 punching bag and it seems sad next to a pole and cramped by the bikes. I say expand and this would be excellent!!
