I have soo much I want to share about my experience with Santa Fe Way, Jeff Nailen’s wellness program. It has truly changed my life in so many ways...actually, in every way. Before starting with Jeff I had gone through several years of difficulty in every area of my life. In that time frame I started to gain and gain weight. I was exhausted ALWAYS. However, interestingly enough, I found that I could not sleep well! My mind was nonstop or I just could not sleep through the night well. Every morning I woke up not knowing how I could possibly get through the day, let alone get through the day at the caliber that I needed to function. I would get home and not be able to do the things I wanted to with my kids. I lost all respect for myself. One day, it all just got to be too much. I was tired of feeling the way I did. I was diagnosed with hypertension. Borderline cholesterol and my blood sugar was climbing. I decided it was time to do something. I wanted to see my kids grow up and see grand children someday. I wanted to be able to enjoy life with them. I wanted to be an example to them. So, I searched for the person to help me. I had high expectations. They had to be able to teach me about nutrition, physical health and fitness and I wanted it tailored to me and my needs. I needed to get healthy. I wanted someone that truly understood all those aspects exceptionally. I met with Jeff and he seemed to be the person for me. I had read his website (I highly recommend reading every bit of it... it has so much priceless info) and was impressed. Jeff is well educated and has a unique way he creates a plan specific to each individual. He provides this in depth program that covers more than you can imagine... from nutrition, physical fitness, meal planning and even how to prepare meals... so much more! I started in February 2020. Since then we have had several interruptions, mostly due to COVid 19 but, some personal things out of my control. But, no matter what we always kept going. During this time I have lost almost 20lbs and several inches in the areas I had the hardest time losing (it was nearly impossible, no matter what I tried I could not lose it in certain areas). I am finally gain some definition in areas I have not seen in a long time. But, it is more than all that. I was able to decrease my hypertension meds (will most likely be able to get off them entirely pretty soon), my cholesterol and blood sugar is the best it has been in years. On top of all that, emotionally I am thriving! I have more energy than I have had in.... many many years. I can work and come home and go for hikes or finish projects. I have energy to do things with my family. I am the happiest I have been in a really long time. Jeff, is the reason for this. Every work out he will questions. Sometimes it is, “How are you eating? How is cardio going? How are you feeling?”...Every single time I meet with Jeff and we have a conversation, I learn more and more. Sometimes it is just a very different perspective that I would never have seen on my own. Many times it is the slightest adjustment in work outs, or thought processes or even my nutritional approach that makes a huge impact. When I want everything to be perfect or I want to be discouraged because I still have so much to do, he has something priceless to say to me that helps me see things in a whole new way. Through his support I have learned to be kinder to myself. To be proud of myself. I was trying to keep this short but, I could talk forever about what an incredible experience this has been for me and how far I have come physically, nutritionally and emotionally. Jeff has been a continuous blessing in my life since I have started working with him. I truly can not recommend his wellness program enough. Thank you Jeff for everything!

I have had 6 different knee operations, including one knee that had to replaced a second time, I also had 4 disks in my neck fused –all of this has taken place over the last 4 years. I did all the required and recommended PT following the instructions explicitly. During this period I lost about 20-25 of my body weight. I went from 195 to 170 lbs. Additionally I had been a serious student of Taiji prior to all these operations, but had to stop as I was to weak to continue. At my wife’s insistence I began working with Jeff Nailen about 7 moths prior to this writing. I am 75 years old.
Unfortunately I fell in to the 20% of those whose TKR’s are not successful. Jeff’s challenge with me was unique in that I wanted to put weight on and regain my strength and to relive that constant pain I was in. Now 7 months later I am back to my optimum weight of 185, walk 1 ½ miles 3X’s a week with Jeff before we do our stretching and weights. I no longer use a cane.
Jeff ‘s Holistic approach including a personalized diet has made a world of difference for me. I am about to begin a 5 week trip that will cover three continents – to even imagine such a trip in my condition prior to beginning working with Jeff would be out of the question. Jeff is very tuned into his clients needs and abilities - and has the ability to push you when need it and to back off when he feels it appropriate. I whole heartedly recommend Jeff and in my case I will continue to work with him indefinitely.

I believe that working with Jeff has kept me from winding up in a nursing home. I was in pretty good shape when I retired 13 years ago and stopped working out regularly. I didn't realize how much strength I had lost until 3 years ago I found myself struggling to get down an empty suitcase. But exercise then had become so hard and subject to aches and pains that I don't think I could have persevered without Jeff's expert assistance.

Not Without Jeff
My weight had peaked at 228. I decided to do something, but just couldn't get myself motivated. I hired Jeff because having the responsibility of meeting someone on a regular basis was the only thing that would make me work out. It was difficult at first, always coming up with an excuse to cancel. Jeff would talk me through the excuse, and it would break down to finally going. I ALWAYS felt better after just doing it.
The amount of work that Jeff put in to personalizing my program and diet shows. His diet is not a typical diet. There's a list of foods that are specific to your metabolism, that are fresh and healthy, that you can eat as much as you will. They are foods that give you energy and that you can process more efficiently. Jeff always asks “How have you been eating?”, so he can check up on your progress. He's also very good at making healthy foods sound delicious... just ask him about HoneyCrisp apples!
Not only did working with Jeff help me lose weight – I’ve lost 44 pounds so far – and get toned and strong, but it helped immensely with my surgery. Six years ago I had ACL knee surgery and I was overweight and out of shape. A year after that surgery, my knee was still not back to normal and my leg would swell on occasion. The total recovery time was more than a year.
This past spring I had to get the ACL on the other knee fixed. A month and a half before the surgery I kept to the foods that Jeff recommended and worked out on schedule. I felt so strong and slimmer when I had the operation. I attribute being able to kneel down and fully flex that knee within two months to having worked out with Jeff, before and after the surgery. I couldn't afford the physical therapy from the doctor, so I just stopped going. Jeff and I took it very slowly at first, but then in no time I got stronger. Six months later I keep forgetting I even had knee surgery!
What a pleasure it is to work with Jeff. He is positive and friendly and never makes you feel bad if you fall short of your 'duties'. You can talk to him about anything, and I have! From how you feel emotionally and how it affects your motivation, to the state of American politics! When you talk about seemingly mundane things in your life to someone who is genuinely concerned about you, you get an objective outlook on how those things may be affecting your energy and health. And Jeff's sense of humor always makes the workouts fun.
His workouts are streamlined and efficient. Get used to not having to count how may repetitions you do. Jeff's keeping track of what weights you're using and how well you're using them. All you have to do is the best you can, and he'll measure your progress. He obviously loves his work and is constantly keeping up with the latest research and products and isn't afraid to change something for the better, like multi-vitamin/mineral recommendations. Also, if you really hate a specific exercise or it isn't comfortable, he'll suggest something else or work around it.
I have gone down from sizes 18-20 to 12-14 and am proudly very strong. I still have a little way to go to reach my goal, but I totally feel that it's in sight. I look forward and enjoy the workouts with Jeff immensely. I recommend him to anyone who would like to feel better, younger, and stronger, and of course, look great!”

“My journey with Jeff and learning about fitness, health and nutrition has been a wonderful and valuable life experience. My journey began over a year ago when visiting my medical masseuse, who is also an instructor and an expert in the field, took my blood pressure and it was not where I needed it to be! I had been neglecting my health, or putting it on hold, unfortunately, as I was focused on my career and academic goals along with not eating properly or working out properly. (Jeff would later share with me that we need to continue working out and eating well especially when work and class schedules get crazy as it helps with stress, and we need to make time for ourselves). That was my wake-up call! I had to do something to lose weight!
“Luckily, I saw Jeff's website as I was brainstorming about what to do as I was anxious about my situation. I was so excited to begin my workout program with Jeff and to this day feel excited about working out with Jeff! “I met Jeff Nailen just over a year ago when he was training a client at Ft. Marcy. When I mentioned to Jeff that I was thinking of hiring a personal trainer, he suggested I take a look at his website for a full description of his approach to health training and physical fitness. After reviewing the site, I almost did not call him back because it seemed to me that his program was primarily aimed at weight loss...I have been slim all my life and at 6’2’ never weighed more than 185 pounds. I told Jeff that my goals were not weight loss but strength training, increasing flexibility and enjoying a greater energy level.
“Without hesitating, Jeff said that all of these goals were consistent with the overall weight loss and health programs he offered. He encouraged me to take a metabolic test and other tests to determine what kind of diet would be most helpful in reaching my goals. Dubious though I was, I did the metabolic survey and Jeff prepared a highly individualized diet for me along with two to three training sessions a week aimed at reaching my personal goals.
“About that 185 pounds: I might as well admit that what fat there was on my body circled my midsection like an inner tube. We started with body measurements to have something for comparing any progress I might make. In six weeks I had shed just over 15 pounds (right from the middle) and was beginning to see a real improvement in my strength and flexibility. My waist size dropped from 36 inches to 32 (and headed for 31!).
“As if that were not encouraging enough, his customized diet made my whole digestive system feel so much better that I was able to go off the magic little purple pills (first Prilosec and then Nexium) which different doctors had prescribed for the past 25 years in order to control acid reflux. I dropped the Nexium four weeks after starting his diet, giving the remainder of my pills to a friend (who was not training with Jeff!), and I have now gone a complete year without needing or taking any such medication. Jeff is an absolute threat to the prescription pharmaceutical industry!
“Jeff and I now train twice a week. I am 77 and my overall physical health has never been better. And here’s the unadvertised benefit of working with Jeff: He is always extremely pleasant and thoughtfully considerate of his clients, focusing with laser attention on the client to make sure all exercises are performed correctly for maximum effect while making the training sessions more fun than actual work. There is no way to “sell” that kind of attention. It comes from the character of the trainer and Jeff has it in abundance.
“My bottom line advice for anyone trying to make sense out of all the Internet, television and advertising bloviating about different approaches to weight control is simply this: Anyone seriously interested in taking charge of their weight, their health and their future only needs to remember two words: Jeff Nailen.
