First, I want to update my previous review of the Sonoma Ranch golf course and restaurant. Management still hasn't addressed either of the issues I raised earlier. The pins remain placed in positions that make it almost impossible to enjoy a round of golf, and customers still have access to the TV remote in the restaurant bar area.

Showed up to our $62.83 tee time never was told before the course was wet , the course starter/ marshal told us if the course was too wet for us that we could go and get a refund , we tried to play hole 1 but our balls got plugged into the fairway, it was muddy and to me I feel as for the course being this wet just playing on it will damage it more so we told the marshal and he told us to get a refund so we went back to the pro shop and they didn’t want to give us a refund because of “policy” but for paying that much money and tee times differ in price I don’t think it’s right to give a “raincheck” because what if we can’t play at the same time next time because of work or school, so now we have to come back at the same time or try to to atleast make our moneys worth, all we wanted was a refund and we would go on our way

For the third straight year, the Sonoma Ranch golf course in July and August is in terrible shape. Even with all the rain recently you would think the course would be green green green. It is not! A handful of fairways are dry probably because the fertilizer killed the grass again, some of the tee boxes not mowed, weeds galore, sand traps should be called rock traps, carts to small, driving backwards is getting ridiculous, crappy driving range and the cost to play this course should be half of what we are paying. I am not so sure where the millions of dollars for improvements went because there are no improvements!

$80 for a course in this condition is outrageous. Played many nicer courses between NM, TX, and AZ for less. Also, my kids are Jr. pga and youth on the course members. Anywhere they play, it's the reduced rate, and that is all. Sonoma did honor the rate but then tacked on a $10 rider fee per kid, only place I have seen that for the kids.

This could be a great course but the golf carts are an absolute joke. The GPS tracking and fencing is the most annoying thing in the world.

This is an example of technology making things worse. They fence off long open holes for no apparent reason.

Also endless popups come up on the screen that you can’t exit. So you can’t enter your score when you want to or see the map (to see the red areas where you can’t drive).

Sometimes the GPS will be slightly off and the cart will stop you from driving WHILE YOU’RE ON THE CART PATH.

This is one of my favorite courses. That being said, it is no where near the level of course for the price. A box of balls, large bucket of range balls, and 18 holes with a cart was $150. The new carts are made for children too. They are so small two men don’t fit. The new GPS is horrible. Not only have you lost more holes to cart path only, if you get close to the red area your cart dies on you and you have to back out. This is Las Cruces NM. Why are you making us walk more in 100+ temps? If I pay $18 for a cart fee let me use the cart. The sand traps are like cement. Most of them are filled with stagnant water that smells horrendous. The tee boxes finally have grass and the greens actually looked good. That sure doesn’t make up for their new pricing. Maybe talk to your staff? A lot of them agree with these complaints.

I played probably over 250 courses in my lifetime and this was the worst experience I have ever been to. I understand the recovery part of the entire course which has over a year to take but the way the staff communicated to us was terrible.
We were from out of town and when we arrived the first throng they said to us was that it was cart path only. No biggie, understand the recovery part even though we were not told of the Cart path and conditions at anytime during the reservation process. But then decided to warn us that if we go off the path, we would be kicked off the course immediately and then fined $500. What a greeting!! Threaten your guests before having them play your course. I understand what they are trying to do and someone most likely took the cart off the path. Even if we did go off the path, we knew we couldn’t get back to the path because it was all mud in the fairway and rough. We played with a twosome at RedHawk two days later and they said the same thing about being threatened when they played and felt scared. They need a better way to communicate with their guests or just shut the course down until they heal or have better staff to run this place.

Do yourself a favor and don’t book a tee time at this golf course. For starters, they don’t make it clear it was cart path only when you book the tee time. The Fairways are in terrible shape. The grass is so thick your ball gets lost on the fairway. The sprinklers are programmed to water throughout the day, so expect to get showered as you tee off, hitting your second shot, or trying to putt. The worst part is that when I turned around midway through the first hole and asked for my money back, they wouldn’t do it. Worst experience I’ve had in years.

Another typical resort neighborhood type of course, but I do like Sonoma better than Horizon (in El Paso), in the way the course layout and the route is a lot more intuitive, you can basically just follow the cart path to find the next hole.

Meanwhile, the course design of each hole is also a lot better than Horizon, as it's merging into the neighborhood while not too close, in the way you feel like shooting golf balls in front of someone else front yard.

The course was in terrible shape. Tee boxes were a disaster with no grass or level spots to stand. Fairways were a combination of dead grass, no grass, mud and weeds. It looks like they have been heavily watering the course because the fairways were swamps in some places and standing water in all the sand traps. Sand traps were among the worst I've ever seen, not really sand but screened gravel with rocks the size of golf balls in them. Most of the greens were in decent shape unlike the rest of the course. The rough around the greens was ridiculous, grass was 3 to 4 inches tall and stopped all balls from rolling onto the greens and making short chips a disaster. The course layout is ok with a few blind shots and none of the homes really come into play. Didn't understand why several holes were cart path only when the course is in such bad shape anyway. I can say I played it once and probably never again.

My partner and his friends went to this golf course this morning and were what I would call discriminated by the Marshall because they weren't dressed up to "golfing standards". Now my partner wanted to just get some practice in for this weekends tournament and had just got out of work so he didn't bring his polo shirt or golf shoes but he was still dressed nicely, presentable, and accordingly and for his friends, he invited them the day before and they have never golfed and were excited to try it out so of course they didn't spend all this money for a golf outfit for their first time but they were still dressed presentable for an outdoor sport. Now we have never had problems like this at any of the other golf courses here in las cruces so I can only assume it must be a racial thing since the group are black and hispanics so this is disappointing and on top of that this course isn't even a country club so don't understand why they were treated this way in the middle of hitting their golf balls. Only reason why I'm not giving this a one star is because the pro shop and bev cart girls were still friendly and helpful.

Nice course plenty of tee boxes to accommodate all golfers. The greens had been aerated so they were not the best. But they have to do that sometime. Pace of play was good 2 hrs for 9 holes. Not impressed with the golf course. At least we managed a reasonable price through GolfNow. (Still over priced ($50.00 each) and we played at 1200pm.) I realize it is 28 Nov 2022, but the course was in pretty rough shape. The greens were smooth and not overly fast, thankfully, because there are some severe undulations on them! Be aware, there are sand traps aplenty, albeit most were filled with a lot of stones. Some the size of eggs, and a lot! We just took a drop out of most traps, as they were unplayable. I should have taken a photo. Golf cart was dirty inside, there is no way someone cleaned it. The Pro shop was pretty, but the staff were not overly helpful. We stopped by the patio a few days earlier, and waited darn near 20 minutes before we managed to flag down a hostess for our order. Not too impressed!! As a visiting tourist, I would not come back to play here. Sorry. A good point was the friendly Course Marshall! (The nearest putting green was closed.) Read: non-existant. We will not be coming back and would not recommend this course.

Have to give credit to the golf gods...it rained through 15 of 18 holes, but not enough to dampen my spirits about playing my favorite sport in the whole world. Sonoma is a beautiful course, challenging for a beginner like me, but am definitely coming back! I’ve played this course before and thought it was amazing and difficult. Both times there was the marshal was on hole 5 to tell us to speed up just to catch the group ahead of us by 20 seconds we laughed the second time (course manager said “ok that’s the way ya wanna play” ) He met as at hole 6 to give us free beers on the house for all 4 of us and said he was just trying to do his job. Second time we went the greens were filled with fungus and we were all talking at hole 1. Not what we remembered, gave our tickets and the lady there said 2 pumps were out... and they still charged us full price??? Other places would of dropped price. Our group has been there before and was amazing but after this last experience our golf league will not be returning back to the course. If you shoot 60 for a piss poor course go ahead but if shoot anything above that don’t even bother unless you have a season pass. NMSU has a better course for 10 dollars less. Some area’s were swamp, bunkers are filled with rocks, for a Saturday Morning we will not be returning

I have bien been playing Sonoma Ranch for the whole season and today, I was very disappointed to see the course in its worst shape since a few years back.
Fairways are literally yellow, tee boxes and greens are deceased from some sort of fungus that attacked the course a few years back. Weeds are tall and everywhere.
This is not the same course I played three weeks ago!
I was told that lighting had struck a water pump. If that is the case, I hope it is fixed soon.
Sonoma is a great course with a challenging layout and for the most part, everyone there is extremely friendly and helpful.
Hope to see the course in great shape again very soon!
