This is the most amazing school in Albq! Accepting of all people, all ages and skill level! My son has been going here for 5 months and went to the Junior Olympics and won the Joel Ferrel award! Grand Master Chavez is such a blessing! She’s so knowledgable and kind and all the instructors are just exceptional people.

We stopped after half a year,the teacher is good,but they charge a hell of a lot for competitions.like 150 for one item ,training price and gears are overpriced.also they kind of force you to joint at least one item of competition,if you register late they charge another 50 on top of fees.after we stopped paying,they charge us another month ,they didn’t give our money back even they promised to.
We lost about 200+ dollars for nothing.
Anyway a place to experience,not a long term choice.

It's been a while since my last review. GM Chavez is the most professional and ethical instructor I have studied under. It's a safe, respectful, and friendly environment. As a public school educator, I endorse this school as a safe school. I like it more than other schools because we learn several varieties of martial arts and weapons training.

My 8-year-old has been coming here for a couple months now. While she was nervous at first, she really enjoys it now and is talking about wanting to be a black belt someday. She is also getting more respectful of her elders and more mindful of what her body is doing at any given moment.

The environment in there can be a little chaotic, so if you come in for your kid’s free first class and aren’t sure what to do, just ask anyone. All the parents are real helpful, they’ll give you the rundown of when to bow and take your shoes off and stuff if you ask ‘em.

I have known Grandmaster Chavez for over 6 years now. The dojo and all the instructors are par excellence in their teaching methodology. My daughter has gained self confidence and developed a strong personality thanks to all the teaching and coaching. She was very shy and a self doubter, going to dojo has given a new level of confidence that has transformed her approach to many things both in school and socially. The difference is all thanks to grandmaster and her team. Albuquerque is very fortunate to have her expertise and really a privilege to have the kids learn from her.
My older daughter also coached under her and both have loved and learned tremendously from her.

I have been affiliated with Takai Mine Karate/Tae Kwon Do for many years. As a former student and instructor I can attest that Grand Master Chavez takes a personal interest in every single student and works very hard to make sure of their success at the school. When my son was young he attended the school as well. And now that my grandson is old enough he also attends. If return business is the mark of a success enterprise then Takai Mine Karate/TKD is at the top of the list. I recommend it to anyone interested in studying the martial arts.

Takaimine Karate has been a part of our family since 1990 over 3 generations have studied under Grand Master Chavez, in another 6 months we will be starting our 3 year old granddaughter!!! Our current student Kash, has been studying since 4 and is now 12 and on course to achieve his Black Belt soon!!!
Takaimine teaches not only self defense but self esteem, confidence, self control, respect and builds a family tradition.

I got to attend the officiating seminar today 2/12/2022 and it was so much fun and challenging. This school is amazing because it teaches multiple types of martial arts and the instructors are knowledgeable and friendly. The culture of this school is open minded and inclusive to all martial arts practioners. It's now 8/16/2022 and my opinion has only gotten better. Grand Master Chavez offers multiple types of weapons training and her classes are fun.

Our two kids are learning taekwondo from Grand Master Chavez and her excellent team for more than 3 years now. Our daughter received her black belt under Grand Master Chavez’s guidance and my son is two ranks below the black belt rank. It has been a great experience and journey for all of us. My 2 kids and I started taking classes at Takai Mine to learn Escrima, since it was the only studio in town that I could find that taught this fighting style. We stayed for the Tae Kwon Do classes, and now we're trying to rank up in both disciplines. The classes are fun and energetic, and although sometimes it can be a little hectic with multiple ranks in one class, Grand Master Chavez know exactly how to split up the class to teach each rank how to move on to the next level. All the assistants are super helpful, and it's clear they all love what they do and want the students to learn the proper techniques not just for competition, but also for real world situations. Thanks to Grand Master and all the teachers at Takai Mine, my kids will take the lessons they learn and grow up to be strong, assertive, and confident adults!

The quality of instruction at this school is top notch. All the instructors are certified black belts. The owner of the school has been studying martial arts since 1978. Therefore she has a lot of knowledge to share with each and everyone of her students. I train at this school and I am a 1st degree black belt. i train in all four styles this school offers. I enjoy how many opportunities the school opens up for me through my martial arts career. I also enjoy sparring weapons board breaking and so much more that makes this school so great.

Takai Mine is the best for beginners to those advanced in martial arts, specializing in taekwondo and karate. The kids are taught a wide range of skills from kicking, striking, forms, weapons, sparring, and are prepped for national competitions, through which they win a majority of the events. It achieves all of this while maintaining a small, family-like atmosphere with great communication and friendly environment. My son enjoys feeling the accomplishment and responsibility that comes with each belt level, and I notice his discipline and confidence at home as well!

Takai Mine Karate is the Best! Owner and chief instructor Grand Master Antoinette Chavez is a 7th degree black belt and started her martial arts school in 1985. She has done an outstanding job meeting the recent challenges imposed by the covid-19 pandemic, providing effective and enjoyable training for both young and old in a safe environment at the school and also remotely through ZOOM. I have been her student since 1996 and at 69 years old I am grateful that because of her dedication I can continue my training during this time when it would have been simpler to just quit!

My family has been a part of the Takai Mine Family for over 27 years. Both my children went through Grand Master Chavez’ program, and they got me to take class as well.
Her program, besides developing the obvious self-defense skills, also develops self-confidence and discipline and hand-eye coordination. I feel these skills helped my children as they went through school and out into the world.
Importantly, I feel Grand Master Chavez is a wonderful role model for young children, particularly young girls and young women. She is strong and confident. She owns her own business. One of her best attributes is her willingness to explore other styles and aspects of martial arts, and incorporating those pieces that fit her program. Her school doesn’t teach just Tae Kon Do or Karate, but is a wonderful combination of both with self-defense techniques from many different styles of martial arts.

I started at Taki Mine when I was four years old. I'm now 23 and am an employee of the school. Last week I had a medical emergency at the school. Everybody at the jumped into action in order to help me. During the emergency a new family came in. Unfortunetly, due to what was happening to me, the family was not able to be helped as we would have done normally. I apologize to the family that wasn't able to be helped but I am very grateful to be apart of a school that would drop everything to help me. This school is my extended family.

Our son has been associated with the Taki Mine for 19 years. He started when he was four years old. He is now 23 years old and an employee. Last week he had a medical emergency. Unfortunately, at the same time, a new family came in wanting to get enrolled. While taking care of my son they were not able to do what it took to enroll the new family. As inconvenient as it probably was for the new family, it goes to show how much the instructors care about every person there. You are not a student or an employee; you are family!

This is one of the best karate schools I’ve been too! The techniques, the different styles of self defense, different styles of karate all together!!

I went here at a very young age and am now about to continue on with a black belt. I’ve learned many different styles including Taekwondo, Shorin Ryu, Shotokan, and other styles of self defense and fighting.

Today I went back to class after being gone for about 15 years. While I was sitting in my car waiting to go in I was so impressed as I saw a young man wiping the door handles for everyones safety. When we went in we then had to get our temperatures check and wash our hands before, during and after class. Masks were worn throughout class and we were all spread out for safety. I highly recommend coming here, this was my first "work out" in a public gym since March of 2020 and I will be going back!!

Thank goodness for Takai Mine Karate! Our kids ages 5 and 8 really enjoy their time taking classes both in person and on-line. Our kids greatly look forward to their time in class and learn not only technique, but also about respect and behavior.

The instructors, higher belt students, and staff are truly amazing and we have found this makes all the difference. Mi hijo Diego es un niño muy serio, desde kinder el jamás buscaba una pelea por algún juguete, prefería renunciar a obtenerlo y no buscar agredir, siempre he sido la mamá a la que la maestra le dice que su hijo no se defiende, que es demasiado tranquilo, para su edad Diego es de complexión muy delgada y es un niño muy chaparrito. Hace 1 año fue golpeado en la escuela por un niño de 4to grado, mucho mayor en edad y en estructura física. Después de levantar un reporte todo quedó “solucionado” con aceptar que El otro Niño tiene “problemas con su forma de manejar su coraje”. Diego después de eso se volvió muy miedoso, un día por casualidad empezó a ver la película de karate kid 🥋. Me pedía que se la pusiera todos los días y no me di cuenta el impacto tan enorme que esa película estaba teniendo hasta que me pidió lo inscribiera en una escuela de artes marciales. Diego ahora es un niño sin miedo, con respeto por el mismo y por otros, las artes marciales son una hermosa forma de entender la disciplina y el control de tu propia fuerza e impulso.

In 1994, After training at another school for 13 years I became so impressed with Master Chavez that I made the decision to transition to her school. Although it was a difficult decision it ended up being one of the best decisions of my life. Over the next several years Master Chavez coached me to become one of the most successful competitors of my generation. Leading me to the medal stand at the junior Olympics, the US Open and the karate Pan American Games. Beyond the excellence of the training I received I also built life long friendships through the family environment that is engendered by everyone at the school. Thank you Master Chavez! I remember going to my first Takai Mine school tournament in 1997 and seeing all your students and black belts dominate in both poomse and Sparring. It was at that moment I knew to attend your school. It was the best decision I made because you taught me how to earn the next level by working hard and to never give up. I am very lucky to hold a black belt under your instruction and remember all of the fun car washes, out of state tournaments, Peter Lopez seminars,etc. You provided a strong foundation for me to build from and I can't Thank you enough! It helped me through College and now into my professional career. I Love you and am grateful that you are still training Gold Medalists on the National level. My son has attended Takai Mine Karate for 3.5 years now and we could not be happier with the school. He had been at another school previously and my husband and I felt like he was not really watched there and skills that he was supposed to be learning were be learned improperly with no correction. At Takai Mine, his skills have been monitored by Master Chavez from the beginning. She has eyes in the back of her head. She also has a family atmosphere and the higher rank belts assist with the lower ranks and assist with ensuring that skills are learned properly as well. My son's confidence and focus began improving immediatey and have continued to do so over the years. We love Takai Mine Karate!
