The ice quality is not very good (too thick, uneven surface, soft and yet somehow still brittle), the air is usually way too humid, the boards are a joke (unpredictable bounces, rattle like crazy at the slightest impact, sharp corners on top of the glass, the benches are uncomfortable, and the locker rooms only slightly better. Might be great for basketball, volleyball, baseball, &c, but for hockey? Well, it's the cheapest of only 3 rinks in the area and a lot of my friends play there, plus I get hired to ref there when I'm not playing, so I'll keep coming back.

Even if the place is ok, they always have issues to process credit cards. Their reader is still magnetic not chip reader and some cards don't work on those anymore. They always need to enter manually the CC info. Today I vent to renew membership for one of my kids we managed that one however for my second kid didn't work anymore. And they tried to say is something wrong with my card. By the end of my conversation with the young lady at the front desk she got pretty rude. Right after that I checked my CC at Lowe's and it worked just fine. You guys running a business and you guys need to be up to date with technology. This days you can take a payment with a phone and you guys have still ..... Is just frustrating. There is no online payments option either. Today was a very unpleasant experience.

My child is attending the "Learn to Skate"classes and they are wonderful. He really loved his first class but didn't like that afterwards that some of the games took his money, but they were nice enough to refund it since it was only a dollar

We rented the gymnasium space for our Hot Air Balloon Rally this past weekend. The owners of the establishment went above and beyond to make us feel very welcome. Terry made sure the doors were open very early so we could be set up and ready for our pilots and their crews. Our event went extremely smoothly with knowing there was no problem with our venue. Thank you for everything. We will certainly be coming back again.

I had a birthday party at this place. We were supposed to have the party room but they had double booked it and they was no compromise on it. The manager there was completely rude. If I could give zero stars I would. Mind you, I never write reviews but this one needed to be negatively reviewed.

π A Huge Thank You to Terrence & The MAC! π
We are beyond grateful to Terrence and the MAC for generously allowing our Girl Scout Cadettes to host their bake sale today! Thanks to this opportunity, the girls are now even closer to reaching their fundraising goal for their ski badge adventure! β·οΈβοΈ
Not only was the bake sale a huge success, but it also gave our Cadettes a chance to practice leadership, teamwork, and financial literacyβall essential skills for their journey ahead.
Thank you, Terrence, for your kindness and support of our troop. Your generosity truly makes a difference in our community! ππ

βThe Macβ we call it. Its a really nice hangout spot. Not too expensive either. They give you skates, and 2 hours to skate Freely. Of course there are rules, like, dont skate in the wrong direction which is just common sense. Entry is about 15 dollars - Which is a great price (it used to be cheaper but so was everything else). You can come in big groups as well, you just need reservations. There are these sort of βwalkersβ that anyone can use to hold yourself up while you get your balance. Very cold though, so take something warm like a jacket, scarf, or mittens. Plan in advance too. Parking can be scarce if its really busy. So get there early and always check the public skate schedule on the website before planning a trip.

I was charged $15 dollars to enter & when I looked on the website it said it was $12 to enter? (+the price went up it too used to be $10) Not only was I scammed, but the front desk person is always rude too. On the Macs website it says,βWe offer two full-size high school basketball courts with 3 baskets on each courtβ which is not true. (they only have 2 on each side not 3). The bathrooms & basketball floors are always filthy. The one good thing about the Mac is its hours, itβs the only place open Sunday evenings but getting scammed is not with it.

Had my childβs birthday party here wasnβt horrible but the overall experience was just not what we expected. The child skate guards were garbage. Was made with PVC and was pretty much useless. Could barely hold up my 30 pound 3 year old. Also thought it was silly to have the lights as dim as they were for younger children not to confident on the ice with vulgar music blaring. For the price I paid for my party and βreversedβ party area, having it during open skate was chaos. The staff did not explain well as to how my guest would get their skates and how the pricing/discount worked after we reached our max skaters. There was one sweet girl at the snack bar who would check on us and she is the only reason I gave 3 stars instead of two.

The events the MAC puts on are great and itβs a pretty cool place for community activities, but learn to skate is the first program weβve attended, and itβs a soup sandwich. Thereβs no communication from instructors on which class is going out, no designated meeting area beforehand or roll call to ensure theyβve got all the kids. Iβve had to stop every βinstructorβ on their way out (3 weeks and counting) just to make sure my kid gets with the right class and gets help crossing the ice. Itβd be great to see actual planning for this with instructors that arenβt afraid to use their outside voices to rally up their classes. Iβd like to sign my kid up again next year, but Iβm already having second thoughts because of this experience.

The McDermott family have been so good to the kids here in Rio. Often kids are short on the entry fee and they donβt turn them away. Itβs the kindest most generous thing I have seen in a long time. My daughter was in dance at Avix Art Academy 2021 Fall semester and loved it. Unfortunately they had to close and my daughter needed a new after school program. We first tried the Brightburn Irish Dance Academy because it was traditional dance (she liked it but didn't love it). One day as we were leaving she saw a little boy dressing out for hockey and she said "I want to do that." (Yes hockey).
I looked into it and she's never skated before so I told her that she had to learn to skate first. She agreed. I found a learn to skate class and got her enrolled. The first class was fine she fell a few times but loved it. The second class she had lost her confidence and didn't want to do it anymore. I took her to open skate today and let her use the skate aid and she loved it again.
I'm giving a 4 star instead of 5 star because the learn to skate class is a little expensive π

This review is for ice skating at the Mac. I took the family there not too long ago. The staff were ok, they rink and sound system were very nice, but the skate rentals were just awful. The high schoolers sitting next next to us as we put them on described them as βvintage.β I thought they werenβt very well maintained, the blades were dull and slid around the ice. And they were very uncomfortable. It made our experience sub par. We wonβt be going back for skating.

The Mac has really improved of late, hence my adding 2 stars. I said I would change my review if it got better and here we are. They have amenities in all the locker rooms and everything is nice and clean. They also have come to embrace the hockey community and they have hosted several tournaments and league games as well letting us players be on the ice, play, enjoy ourselves. This instead of briskly having us leave the ice so they can close up. I play there a lot now and my experience has been really good. Keep up the good work Mac people.

Look I'm not really one to complain but this place is ridiculous. Paid 10$ tobe told we have to run a half court game because we need to "share" the court. There was volleyball practice going on as well which I have no problem with but that doesn't effect the price. Anyway stopped 10+ people playing so a group of 2 could shoot around. I was there 30 minutes and asked for my money back but apparently they don't do that either, wonder if that happens a lot? Been ripped off before and just want send a warning out to y'all hoopers looking for a place to ball, DON'T COME HERE. I understand it's a public setting but that's a steep price already for an open gym and then to be told we have to run a half court game on a slippery concrete like floor no less? Come on. Then they said we had to rent the gym if we wanted to run full court. Seriously? Been playing for about a decade and this was by far the worst open gym I've EVER been to.I'm not coming back even if it was free. Find somewhere else to play basketball. Pay the fee at UNM for that price at least they have wood floors even they gave me my money back when we couldn't play!

Pick up hockey is only 1 hour! Since when? It takes 15 minutes to warm up. EVERY rink in America has drop in hockey for AT LEAST 75 minutes, except for The Mac. It cost 50% more to play since before covid, $15 instead of $10 and that's understandable because of the crisis. But, come on guys, just an hour, we're paying more for less time, can you please let us have the additional 15 minutes that the Outpost has as standard for the same price? When It was Blades, regardless of price, the ice times were over an hour. I would even be willing to pay $1 extra for that 15 minutes. Mac people, join the U.S.A. and have your drop in hockey games be 75 minutes or more. You will get more business, more money, and customer satisfaction and loyalty to boot. How about it?

Your basketball fee and the lack of communication from your staff with the potential limited time to play is very unprofessional. My son and his college friends were playing basketball at least twice a week in your facility for several months and like clockwork, the group (15) of boys were asked to stop playing due to the courts being reserved for practice. Your staff neglected to communicate that the courts were not going to be available during certain times. 90% of the times the boys were asked to leave approximately 30 min after paying to enter and expecting some level of ethical business practice. My son brought it to the attention of the staff several times stating that it isn't right for the money to be collected and then asked to leave withing 30 min to an hour after beginning to play. Something needs to change with your policies or training for the staff to clearly understand how to ethically run a business so it's fair to evetyone.
