Awful since changes have been made. No towels for sauna room last couple of times. No water in refrigerator last couple of times. No sanitary wipes which were always in abundance. For $120 a month this should never be an issue, currently being run like $10.99 month special. Very disappointing

I was given a day guest pass to the gym by a friend. It was my first and 100% my last time visiting 1983. Google photos are made to look big, it’s actually small and packed with some low -end equipment. Floor Carpet is in poor shape and torn. It smells like wet old towels inside. Seems to me at the price it’s a rip off when local gyms are 1/4 of the price.

UPDATING THIS REVIEW-

This place used to be the BEST when John was there. Fast forward a few months, massive ownership drama, toxic vibes…new management just making up prices, cancelling classes with zero notice, firing qualified trainers to bring in new randoms with little experience and charging so many credit cards with no authorization. Increased “fees” for some not others, hasn’t been cleaned in weeks either. I would bet if you drive by in a few months I guarantee you’ll see a FOR RENT sign. What a shame!

This gym used to be the absolute best.1983 is the nicest private gym on the south shore hands down! I looked everywhere for a place like this- it’s clean, it’s open 24/7, it’s not insanely crowded and if you want to lift weights in the best environment you’ll love it here. Every trainer is super nice and John is constantly updating the gym with new equipment and new classes. If you hate waiting for the squat rack at your local gym, check them out

First and foremost I would like to say that the owner John is amazing. He is truly a super nice person and very knowledgeable. I met the owner before the gym actually became more mainstream. I do have to say my reason for giving the gym 4 stars is literally just his training staff.

I was going there for months and I always was greeted until maybe 3-4 months ago. One of his personal trainers Nicole had said some side comments as she was training, because I had my headphones in, she probably thought I did not overhear.

He has another male trainer that greets everybody and specifically when I would walk in, totally ignored not even a smile. To be honest I am not sure why some of his staff is not welcoming to everybody. They always greet their own personal clients so it should be the same with everybody else.

At the end of the day the gym does have great machines and if you know the good times to go, you go in, and you go home. Unfortunately just like at any other gym if you see somebody struggling or maybe new to the gym I hope the staff can be nicer and willing to help. People pay the price to come to this gym because it's worth the price, and the machines are amazing. I am hoping moving forward they can work on their customer service.

1983 Gym is that gym.

Shoutout to my trainer John who somehow makes me feel like an athlete even when I’m out of breath from the warm-up. And to my mom’s trainer Anthony who has her out here lifting heavier than me. Love that for her. Humbling for me.

Been a member for about a year and best decision I’ve made in my fitness journey. The owner and his team curated a welcoming and friendly environment. This gym is great. All the trainers and staff here welcome you with open arms, out of all the gyms I’ve tried 1983 is by far my favorite. I don’t think there’s ever going back to another regular gym after going here. If you’re looking for a new gym with staff that will cater to you and help you towards your goals, 1983 is the way to go!!!

As a person who has tried LA fitness, planet fitness, crunch and lifetime, I can finally say that I found my forever gym.
1. Cleanliness: a clean gym is a gym for me and every machine, weight, piece of equipment is literally spotless. It just feels so good to go into a place that is organized and clean especially with
Me running from job to job all day/every day. 1983 has to be the cleanest gym I’ve ever been in.

2. The trainers: every single trainer is not only extremely versed in all aspects of fitness, but every trainer is tailored to a certain specialty of fitness, which I absolutely love. Victorias Wednesday morning glues and AB’s class is a MUST. Mikes tabata Tuesday morning
Classes help me with my cardio and I burn a ton of calories every morning. Nicole’s Pilates class is 10/10 amazing and is good for beginners and experts.

3. The community: the community is hands down the best part of this gym. Everyone knows each other, everyone is friendly and welcoming and it’s just the most amazing and accepting atmosphere that I have ever experienced.

John, the owner, is the most sincere, helpful and knowledgeable person ever. He always greets me when I walk in, always makes it a point to ask me about my experience and always offers to answer any questions I have about machines, equipment or training. The manager Anthony is also super helpful and I always see him helping anyone that has questions!

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE their wellness room. They have a sauna (literally 10/10), massage chairs, massage guns and they even have freshly cleaned towels for after your workouts and sauna time.

If I could rate this gym any high than a 10/10, I absolutely would.

I joined a few weeks ago and I’m so happy I did. I can actually get a great workout in without having to wait for machines. Great gym for strength training. Also very clean and welcoming environment. This is the place to go if you’re serious about your training. They are going to be doing some renovations soon.

1983 is the most clean, private, and amazing gym on Long Island. I love the environment and every single trainer treats you like family. This gym is the greatest place you can train and have the best workout. 1983 offers a private sauna, a massage chair, and more. This is the place to be!
