I love this studio. Emily has high expectations and each class is challenging. You truly just get stronger. I’ve gotten so strong and I am so proud to be a Pilates gal thanks to 21 Pilates. My lower back issues are gone and each week I see a difference. Highly recommend this woman and AAPI owned studio!

I got locked out too being 5 min late. Last time elevator did not work and we were all 10 min late taking the side elevation. There is always problems with the elevation but when it is building it is ok and when it is you- it is not ok. I just don’t think that in the city for class during lunch break you can have this lateness rules. You ll loose all customers. I will not coming back again.

I liked the instructor, she incorporated a lot of variety and exercises into the class that I have not experienced in other Pilates classes.

Some things that could be improved was:
- there was a broken light that kept flashing on and off. Please just remove or replace the bulb.
- the mats that covered the reformer were old/stained.

I would come back to take another class if I were in the area.

I took my first Pilates class here today. Emily was the instructor and she was very patient and friendly. I loved the flow of the class and she communicated perfectly with every new exercise. The actual studio itself is beautiful, bright, clean and welcoming. I love how this class was fun and challenging! I will definitely be back :)

Class itself was okay but reformer machines are very cheap and basic and extremely close together. I was told I could not do the class barefoot, so I had to either buy their $20 socks or wear my slippery tights. The receptionist was rude and I haven't returned.

Really should re-think locking the elevator late policy in a city where there are so many variables...I arrived less than 5 minutes into the class, was denied and still charged

The studio made me pay for the class after classpass glitch affected my enrollment. This should have been managed by them with classpass, not me. Studio quality was also not up to scratch for the price of the class — facilities were not as nice as your standard reformer studio and yet you’re paying the same amount.

Love this studio. I take as many classes a week that my schedule will allow. I like switching up instructors, because they all have a different style. I love Tower with Katia. Tower is probably my favorite. I take reformer with Emily as well but recently discovered her jump board class which is awesome. I take reformer with Dominique who is definitely hardcore. You WILL be working out. I love that she knows I like to be challenged. Lastly, I also take reformer from Annie as well as her stretch class. She will definitely make sure you’re getting a workout. Her stretch class is my favorite part of my Saturdays.

I took Dominique’s Express Reformer class this morning for the first time and absolutely loved it. She is an OG Pilates instructor who has mastered her art and is a top tier instructor. She offers hands on adjustments and really ensures each client has perfect form and movement (how else are you going to strengthen that core)!!! The class starts on the dot at the start time, which is highly valuable for busy people! This is a beautiful, intimate studio with old school reformers and traditional Pilates accessories. The studio is very transparent about the timing and when they expect people to be there. It’s disruptive to join beyond 5 minute timeframe and I’m shocked to see low reviews due to people who couldn’t follow this. This studio is very high quality and I’m excited to join more classes here.

I had my first Pilates class with Reima today, and it was amazing! My doctor recommended Pilates for my conical back injury, so I was a little nervous, but Reima made me feel completely at ease. She was incredibly kind and attentive, always checking if the weight was right for me. The workout was definitely a bit challenging—I was shaking!—but there was no pain, just a great burn. I already feel like this will be a game-changer for my recovery. Highly recommend!

I’ve been to multiple Pilates studios before, but this is the one I decided to stick with. Emily, the founder, is incredible. She knows so much about Pilates and how the body works, and you can really tell she cares about helping people move the right way. In just a few months, I’ve seen and felt a real difference in my strength and posture—my body just feels better overall.

One thing I love is that her classes are never repetitive—she always switches things up, so it’s never boring. She’s also super detail-oriented, making sure everyone’s form is correct, which a lot of other studios don’t do as much.

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room—some people think she’s “too strict” or even “rude.” She’s NOT. She’s just direct because she wants you to do it right and not get hurt. If you’re coming to a Pilates studio, following instructions (and being on time) is just basic respect.

I also take classes with Dominique, who is great too, but Emily is always my go-to. If you want a studio where the instructors actually pay attention, correct your form, and help you improve, this is the place. Don’t let the negative comments scare you—if you’re serious about Pilates and want real results, you’ll love it here.

It was good while it lasted!
I liked this studio because it is located in a stategic position between home and work and because the class is fast pace.
I've been booking consistently as soon as the class is open for booking (7 days in advance).
Last night I received a message saying that my reservation was canceled due to volume of the class, to book the class after that. Why would I do that? I have very strict hours and this is why I plan ahead to save a spot for the class that I want to attend. Why would a studio prefer one person more than another? We're all paying to be there and take class! Also, it was the second time the class was canceled. Unfortunately all of this equals to unprofessionalism to me, and with the amount of studios that are available in the city, an unfair place is not the one you want to spend your money at! Never coming back

I’ve been a loyal attendee at this studio for over a year and have generally enjoyed my experience. However, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed. Today, I was locked out of a 10:00 AM class for being just five minutes late, despite the instructor having previously stated in an email that attendees wouldn’t be allowed in until 9:55 AM. Typically, there’s a 10-minute window to allow attendees time to undress and prepare, which seems reasonable—especially on a day when the temperature is 30° outside.

What’s even more frustrating is that when I rang the doorbell, someone answered and informed me I couldn’t attend. When I requested a refund for my credits, they hung up on me and ignored my subsequent call. This lack of professionalism and courtesy is unacceptable.

Additionally, I’ve noticed a pattern of frequent instructor and policy changes without sufficient communication or flexibility for attendees to adapt. This creates an inconsistent and, frankly, frustrating experience for those of us who value this studio as part of our routine.

I was genuinely excited to show up for myself today, and this experience has left me feeling undervalued as a client. After a year of dedication to this studio, I’m saddened to say I’ll be looking for an alternative space that better respects its attendees and fosters a welcoming environment.

Hit the back of my head(there is a big bump at the back of head) while the instructor supervising me. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!

I have had a lot of sessions with this studio as it is close to my apartment. But the last visit was such a disappointment because the staff is so unprofessional and RUDE. I hit the back of head(there is a big bump at the back of head) at the time the instructor supervising me. It was so painful and I cried out. I know there are other persons in the class so I wait aside until the class end to talk to instructor how to deal with the incident. And at that time an Asian woman who in charge of the studio(also an instructor) came up and saying I signed the waivers and they are not taking the responsibility at all and it is my fault of not doing it slowly. I was so painful at my head and she was blaming me for everything and the instructor said nothing just watching me and the Asian woman arguing. She was not there until I hit my head how did she know if I am doing fast or slow? I questioned her and she changed her wording s to “maybe u didn’t do it slow”. I was so mad and my head is still hurting and I feel very dizzy. I am also Asian so I said why do you talk to me like that we are from the same region, she said no we are not from the same country…… I left, my head stayed dizzy and painful for couple of days, this is the worst experience I ever had. Didn’t get any refund

If I could go into the negatives I would. This is clearly the owners ego project and not about the Pilates practice at all. I called saying that my train was delayed, I had planned on getting to studio earlier since it’s new to me and I know I could get lost etc. she said 5 minutes was fine. I called again at 10:03 all verified through my phone log, because I couldn’t get the elevator to work. No answer, I knew I was running behind I figured they were teaching the class and decided to wait at the Dunkin donuts. My receipt which I had with me was stamped 10:06 because the studio is right next to it. I figured I’d see what if any accommodations could be made because I was clearly there and had called to communicate so everything is time stamped. I get there and she looks at me like I have three eyes only responds to the part of the elevator to call me a liar because she said she opened it. Mind you if there is a problem with the elevator I didn’t assume she locked it or anything so why she would assume I don’t know how to work an elevator or would need to lie about that is beyond me but whatever. I wished her a happy new year and took this as a sign to never return to this studio. I don’t expect studios to be accommodating, at the end of the day the train made me 3 minutes late but the lack of customer service, even just with tact is a horrible business model for a business that deals with people. I hope she finds patience and happiness in her future practice.

Don’t waste your time coming to this Pilates studio.

My friend and I signed up for class and when we arrived (15 mins early as instructed or else we wouldn’t have been let in) the instructor told us to wait downstairs. Of course we did. When we came back upstairs she told us class was cancelled and was confused that no one told us…? Ok. Never got refunded and have yet to hear back from management.

Honestly happy I didn’t have to attend the class bc the studio was tacky and felt cheap. Not like most Pilates places

I’m super disappointed that I needed to make a public review of this studio- but I never heard back from customer service to resolve this issue in private. I was a new client to 21 pilates and signed up for a class on Monday. Since my friend and I had never been before, we showed up early. When we arrived, the instructor kindly asked us to return in 10 minutes and wait in the lobby. No problem! We headed down and returned to the studio 12 minutes later. The doors opened and the same instructor who asked us to wait downstairs was getting into the elevator. She saw us and asked if anyone had contacting us regarding the class, which we responded that no, no one had. She let us know she cancelled the class because she was sick and she was sorry. Of course we were frustrated because we had just wasted time in the lobby when she could of told us this when she saw us in the studio. Regardless, people get sick so we went on w our day. I reached out to customer service later that day (Monday) in regards to getting a refund for a cancelled class and letting the studio know i was disappointed that NO ONE reached out to us still about the cancellation. It’s now end of day Friday and my friend and I haven’t heard from the studio and have not been refunded our money. I have had to dispute it w my CC company which is ridiculous. This whole experience has been super disappointing and I will not be returning.

Great studio. I’ve been going for about 6 months now. I’ve slowly started going more and more. Instructors are friendly and the class length is perfect! Always a killer workout. Just understand this isn’t solidcore or SLT (which I don’t like). This is traditional reformer Pilates. I’ve only tried one other class of theirs - Ped o pole - which I love! Lots of chair action, VERY hard, and a great shoulder/arm stretch out. Perfect for toning up as well as getting in shape.

Very disappointed about my recent experience at this studio. An instructor was extremely rude to me twice (she did not instruct the class I was in, my actual instructor was very nice and helpful). I came to the studio straight after work and I arrived early with the intention of changing there. When I arrived they tried to tell me to wait outside the building but I wanted to at least change. They let me use the bathroom and I tried my best to not interact/make noise since they were in the middle of another class. After I came out and saw they had seats (out of view of the two classes) I sat down quietly since there was only 15 mins left until my class started atp. That’s when the other instructor stopped her class and told me loudly and rudely to go wait downstairs. I didn’t say anything and just left - confused by her bad attitude towards me. I let it go bc I look forward to my weekly Pilates class and just wanted to do the class. Less than 10 mins later I went back upstairs I started putting my socks on etc. when I noticed some noticeable body order. I panicked and started sniffing myself wondering if it was me - although I didn’t notice earlier while I was changing. I couldn’t smell anything on myself so I figured it must be coming from someone else who’s taking the class. I kept it moving bc someone else’s body odor is none of my business. I went to wait in the studio until the class started when this same instructor walks up to me and asks if I have deodorant. I told her I didn’t and she handed me one asking me to put it on. If it were me w body odor I would appreciate someone letting me know but the way she said it was again extremely rude and tactless. So condescending. I don’t know why she was acting this way towards me only. Again I didn’t say anything bc I just wanted to take the class. I regret not saying something to her and just letting her speak to me that way but again I don’t like causing scenes. So I decided to vent here instead. This wasn’t even my first time at this studio. It is the first time I’ve experienced this kind of treatment at a Pilates studio - usually staff are non judgmental and kind. If I come back i will only book with the other instructor because she was polite and professional. Not sure I’ll be back tho.
:
UPDATE: This was only my 2nd time at the studio..? The first time I was actually almost late because your buzzer wasn't working so me and 1 other client were waiting outside until an instructor came down to let us in. So nice try..? Also interesting how you just ignored the second half of my review about the deodorant incident. Anyway I understand your rules and you had every right to enforce them. My bigger issue was the attitude. At the end of the day I'm a paying client as well - I also have every right to be upset by your unprofessional and harsh behavior. There seems to be a trend of your responses to bad reviews... people having genuine complaints and you taking it personally. Your rating has gone down and instead of trying to make improvements you try to discredit me and make excuses? Interesting.

Not sure why the place got those negative reviews below…kinda seems coordinated, given the abnormally high likes only on the two critical reviews. I’ve never had issues with any of the staff giving me the attitude even when I was late. They even accommodated rescheduling my class when I knew I couldn’t make it to my original time slot. I guess you can’t please everyone…

I’m not sure why this studio is rated lower, it’s deserves 5+ stars. I think there are some reviews that are not meant for this studio so please disregard those.

I have been going to 21 Pilates for almost a year and my body has changed dramatically. Anyone that has said the class is ‘too easy’ is not listening to the cues from instructors. Pilates is not meant to be done in a crazy HIIT way, the larger corporate studios are harming students by not slowing it down and focusing on proper form. The classes are small and the instructors work hard to focus on each students needs. The studio is beautiful, the instructors are so nice, and they are size inclusive. This isn’t your typical NYC snobby Pilates studio everyone is welcome! You will see results quick and want to come back, working out is no longer a chore for me. I enjoy going to see my friends at the studio.

Couldn’t agree more with Kassandra.
I also had similar bad experience here. The owner called me and start yelling on the phone for a simple misunderstanding with staff regarding expiration of class. The way they treat new customers is not how it should be. I was actually glad my sessions here finally ended so I can go to different pilates who have much nicer staff and classes. I also will definitely not be back. Pretty terrible experience.

GLAD YOU WROTE BACK BECAUSE IT SHOWS EVERYBODY THAT THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS FOR LEAVING HONEST REVIEW. YOU CAN'T EVEN ADMIT YOUR OWN FAULTS AND BLAME GUSTOMERS AND CALLING THEM "LIARS". I THINK MORE PROFESSIONAL WAY TO APPROACH THIS WOULD BE TO SIMPLY APOLOGIZE AND MOVE ON INSTEAD OF FIGHTING WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THE REVIEWS. THAT'S JUST SO PITTY ON YOU. LOL!

I am so disappointed with this studio. It is one thing to have rules and fees associated with your fitness studio and enforce them. It is another thing altogether to fail to offer any type of customer service - especially to new clients.

My first experience with both the staff and owner was so dismissive and rude I have NEVER experienced that type of interaction at any other studio I have ever been to.

There was a simple misunderstanding with their name and location of the studio as there is ANOTHER very similar studio a block away from this location. When I called to ask for help to find them and if I could still come to class the receptionist said yes - only to find that she would not let me attend after all - five minutes after I called.

So, I demonstrated what happened to the receptionist and asked if she can try to find a compromise with me on the no-show fee since I already lost out on the class and because I was clearly there — but nope! I then asked her is she could notify the owner of what happened and see if there was a happy medium we could find there too.

The owner then called me and said I threatened the girl which is ABSOLUTELY NOT what I did at all and told me I can’t return to her studio without having a conversation with me either.

So…okay! There are DOZENS of much much nicer studios with both HELPFUL and FRIENDLY staff you can find to do a Pilates class. Better yet - YouTube over this is still a step up.

I am only posting this so no one else has to experience what I just did with such a toxic interaction.

This is far and away the best pilates studio in the entire city. As a former ballerina with an ankle injury that subsequently plagued my knees and hips for about 20 years, I had a lot of negative experiences at various studios where the instructors wanted to push you to the limit, regardless of searing pain. 21 Pilates is the exact opposite. From the moment I walked in a few months ago, Emily and Jasmine recognized the issues I was having and worked to build up strength in my ankles and legs before launching into more advanced exercises. They essentially gave me physical therapy AND a great workout each class, and my body has never felt stronger or more toned. Every time I go, I am amazed by my own improvement, and Emily and Jasmine are right there, cheering me along, explaining the science of what's happening, and giving me new goals to work toward. With such an intimate studio, you truly get individualized attention and it's clear that not only do they know each student by name, they know each student's issues, injuries, and fears, and safely work to move everyone to develop flexibility, strength, and stamina.
