Abhaya is a dream come true. Tara has brilliantly created one of the most comprehensive 200hr Yoga teacher training programs out there. Studying therapeutic approaches to asana as well as ancient scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita go hand-in-hand here along with discovering community and healing physically, mentally, and spiritually. I first heard the call to study Yoga more intensely around 15 years ago and finally found the perfect place to study under Tara's masterful, passionate, and energetic guidance. Learning the 4 pillars framework that Tara has developed to teach asana is invaluable and will forever guide my practice and how I teach others. I highly recommend Abhaya to anyone seeking a true introduction to Yoga. After completing my 200hr, I was inspired to do my 300hr here. Iโm honored to call this studio a home away from home and cannot recommend Tara and Abhaya enough to anyone seeking a true Yoga experience in NYC. I am also deeply grateful for the community of practitioners and Abhaya teachers I continue to learn from here.
If you are on the fence about going here, this is your message to take the leap! Fear less, love more.

After considering multiple yoga teacher training programs in NYC, I committed to Abhaya and have been SO happy with my decision. They offer open houses for those interested in their YTT programs, which I highly recommend attending to meet the instructor/owner and learn more about the studio.
Tara is both the studio owner & our primary instructor for our teacher training. Throughout our YTT classes, she led with empathy, non-judgement, and flexibility (both physically and mentally). She fostered an inclusive and safe space where our entire cohort felt comfortable asking questions and sharing. She not only has a deep understanding of the philosophy and history of yoga and human anatomy, but she also specializes in hands-on adjustments and therapeutics. Plus, as part of your YTT, we take 2 public classes per week with her, and her yoga classes are always very popular... for good reason!
As a general overview of what the training was like for me: Tara broke YTT out into 2 parts: part 1 focusing on anatomy and philosophy, and part 2 diving into the pedagogy of teaching. You have the option to sign up for both at once (which most people do), or break them up if you have conflicts. Regardless of which you choose, the program fosters a really inclusive and welcoming environment -- my cohort had 2 folks join the 2nd half, and they integrated into our program immediately.
In part 1, we learned about human anatomy, alignment, the yoga sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, Ayurveda, and meditation. In part 2, we focused on how to structure our classes and how to best provide therapeutics / hands on adjustments.
Throughout the program, we had access to a bunch of resources and presentations created by Tara & were assigned worksheets, reading materials, class observations, and hands-on adjustment practice sessions. These different formats helped reinforce what we learned, and I came away feeling like I had truly absorbed a lot (and spent my money well!).
P.S. mats are provided & the space is so so nice

I have been coming to Abhaya for about three years now. I love Sunday classes with Tara and have been thinking about 200 YTT for a long time. I finally decided to take the training this spring, and it has been an AMAZING experience. Not only have I deepened my understanding of yoga and everything it means (anatomy, philosophy, teaching, etc), but also have made some good friends along the way. The training is intense but Tara distills it bit by bit so that you can assimilate it properly. 100% recommended to ANYONE that wants to learn more about the fascinating world of yoga, regardless if you want to teach or not.

The space is beautiful. I took Kaylaโs intermediate class today and it was absolutely incredible. She is so clear and confident that it allows you to really get into your body and turn off your mind. Her hands on adjustments were fabulous.
I love this studio!

I can't recommend Abhaya Yoga enough! I took my 200 hour training here and it was truly the most enriching and authentic experience I could have asked for. Abhaya creates a very welcoming and safe space for learning, and does a great job of cultivating a community amongst your class.

If you are looking for a Yoga Teacher Training Program, I think this is the absolute best one available in the NYC area. First off, the studio is gorgeous and it is also a community. You don't need to live nearby to feel a part of the community. I've taken yoga for decades all over the city and never experienced anything else like it. Second, the studio owner, yoga teacher and instructor for the YTT programs, Tara Glazier, is like no one I have ever met before. Her actual yoga abilities are breathtaking and beautiful. Her knowledge of all aspects of yoga, specifically Philosophy and History, are unparalleled. Among most of the other yogis in the studio, we consider her a master. But here is yet another thing that makes her so special, her method of teaching is incredibly thorough and she approaches it in a completely non-dogmatic way. She truly is just giving information without any feeling of "you must believe, you should believe, or this is the right way." That is rare! She is exceptionally open while also being grounded. And more specifically about the YTT program, I have spoken with other friends about their experiences with their YTT outside of Abhaya, and none were as comprehensive. It is a lot of work, but it is incredibly well scheduled so as to never feel overwhelmed. I have learned so much and actually feel ready to begin teaching. Not all programs can get you ready in 200 hours. I could go on and on, but instead I will tell you to check it out for yourself. She offers a free Q&A session about her YTT programs. This program is amazing and I highly recommend it!

I have been coming to Abhaya for many years - itโs my home studio and I practice 4-5x/week. Tara, the owner, is so grounded and devoted to the practice. Margarita, who runs things, is kind and committed to good experiences for students. The teachers are wonderful and you can tell a great deal of care goes in to who teaches at Abhaya. The space is lovely. I feel very cared for at Abhaya. Whenever I think about moving to a new home, one of the top reasons for staying is being close to Abhaya.

Abhaya Yoga is an amazing community of teachers, students and all around lovely humans. In a place like New York where there are endless options, Abhaya is an absolute gem. Tara, the owner, leads from a place of kindness and inclusivity which shines through in every element of the studio.
I stumbled across Abhaya back in 2015 when I was considering signing up for a 200 hour teacher training. I took Tara's class to see if I resonated with her style and knew right after savasana that I had found the right fit. :) And the rest is history! I went on to complete both my 200 hour and 300 hour advanced teacher training under Tara's artful guidance and have been teaching full-time ever since. These trainings have truly changed my life and completely shaped my career path. Although I went into the first training as a way to simply deepen my practice, by the time I graduated I felt like I had found my voice, my purpose, and a whole new trajectory. It was a completely unexpected but incredible ride.
What I loved most about my studies with Tara and the Abhaya team is their non-dogmatic approach, emphasis on seeing the good, and how they create such a well-rounded toolbox for new teachers to experiment with. Instead of memorizing one set sequence, I learned to craft a safe, creative, dynamic class that integrated the core principles of the Abhaya Method while allowing my own personality to shine through. I also appreciated how the 300 hour highlighted Yoga Therapeutics and dove deep into the subject of private yoga. This is a major aspect of the training that sets Abhaya apart. Because of this module, I learned how to teach adaptive classes to people of all ages and abilities in a one-on-one setting. I now make a living teaching private clients in their homes. To sustain myself financially while doing something I love so deeply is truly a dream.
Wether you're a newbie looking for a beginner friendly studio, a seasoned practitioner seeking out a 200 hour program, or a current teacher wanting to fine tune and expand your skills, Abhaya is a haven for all. <3

I went to a yoga class here a few weeks ago with Anushree as the teacher. It was a great balance of yoga as both a physical and spiritual practice. She walked us through all the movements, made modifications where necessary, and threaded a beautiful theme of "mind and heart" throughout the class. Will definitely be back!

Shopped around for a yoga course for a couple of years and moved from Boston to take the course here because I fell in love with Tara instantly. So safe, so sweet and patient, so knowledgeable and good natured and kind. Loved the mix of spirit, heart and alignment. Have been coming for 13 years now :)

It's so refreshing to be part of an amazing yoga community like Yoga Abhaya. The spacious, clean, and serene rooms offer views of beautiful greenery, creating a perfect peaceful environment for practice. The classes and teachers are exceptional, fostering a sense of community rather than the commercial feel of some other studios I've visited recently. Before the pandemic, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo used to have some decent legit yoga studies such as Yoga Works and Yoga Vida that offered variety of quality classes with reasonable monthly fees, and then, after the pandemic, such places became rare. It is wonderful to have a genuinely high-quality yoga studio that does not break your bank account back in the Dumbo area, with friendly and laid-back staff who prioritize people and relationships over profit. Variety of classes offered, with various membership combinations, and storage spaces to leave your own yoga mat with no fees. Margarita the manager is so chill, laid back and helpful. Greatly enjoying practicing there. Thank you for being in my hood! After my busy couple of years in my career, I will be interested in doing some serious training by attending 200 or 300 hours courses at Abhaya.

I highly recommend the Teacher Training program at Abhaya Yoga. I didn't really aspire to become a yoga teacher, but I really wanted to learn more about yoga since it's helped me overcome injuries, keeps my blood sugar stable and is great for stress reduction.
I signed up for the 200 hour TT program last Fall not exactly sure what I was in for. The program led by studio owner Tara Glazier is absolutely amazing. It covers everything from the history of yoga to anatomy to practicing teaching in a warm and welcoming environment where I got to know my classmates well.
I felt both challenged and supported at the same time. Once the program ended, the studio allows new teachers to practice for a month through Community classes which is such a huge benefit of this program. I'm not seeking out teaching positions, but I really appreciated being able to practice teaching actual classes so I have some experience in case I do decide to teach in the future.
I'm so happy that I decided to take the 200 hour program at Abhaya Yoga. I learned so much, met amazing people and I feel confident that I can teach a yoga class.
I also love the classes at the studio. All the teachers are great and I appreciate that they offer a mix of levels and class types.
The administrator Margarita is wonderful and always available to answer questions about anything related to the studio. This is by far the best yoga studio I've ever been to.

Fantastic yoga studio with many great teachers led by head teacher/owner Tara who is super friendly, knowledgeable and authentic & has been in the business many years teaching and training yogis and has a dance background also. The studio is clean and spacious with a large window showing greenery in the foreground with urban sights in the background. Yoga mats, blocks, bolsters and blankets provided. You can even train under Tara to become a Yoga instructor like I just did. It was intense and challenging and turned out to be one of the best transformational experiences of my life. I can now competently lead others along the yogic journey. Margarita at the front desk will help with everything with a big smile and laughter.

This is by far my favorite yoga studio of NYC. The teachers are amazing- Tara has such a warm, happy demeanor and is exceptional in her flow and attention to alignment. Eduardo is a fun teacher, who always seems to amaze me how his classes come full circle with everything he teaches. The other teachers are wonderful as well. The studio is beautiful! The staff behind the desk are super friendly and helpful. Thank you Abahaya!

My fave studio! Wonderful teachers, staff is so friendly and have a remarkable memory for people's names. They've built a lovely community and it's not intimidating, there's a nice range of ability, ages and body types. Space is clean and they have lots of free equipment (mats, blocks, blankets). The studio looks out onto the highway, but you can't really hear it. Convenient to the F @ York Street and A/C trains @ High Street (if you take the Adams street exit). Highly recommend.

I did my 200 Hour yoga teacher training here a year ago. My class was small and diverse. My classmates varied by age and professional backgrounds but we shared a love for yoga. Tara & Margarita are amazing and the studio has a beautiful view. The huge window shows the beauty of nature juxtapose the Brooklyn Bridge roadway approach. I highly recommend ๐ซถ๐พ๐๐พโฎ๏ธ๐ชท

Peeking-tom front desk staff.
I was signed-in by front desk staff. Then I proceeded to use their changing room to change into my yoga clothes. The front desk staff open the curtains on me with no warning while I was changing. I definitely made sure my yoga bag was sticking out to indicate that I was in there and it was not difficult to hear that someone was in there. Emailed about this issue and I asked to get a refund for the monthly membership and be charged single classes for the classes that I took. They did it and offered me a week of free classes. Why do I want a week of free classes? So I can come in again and have you walk in on me while I'm changing? No mention of anything for the person that walked-in on me intentionally.

I've been going to Abhaya for almost a decade now, since 2014. This place is special. The teachers are not only knowledgeable and talented, they are caring and artistic. Tara, the owner, is an absolute shining star. Margarita, the manager, is attentive and fun. The energy in this place is unbeatable. I live a 30 minute bike ride away these days, and still make the effort. It's worth it! This is really high quality yoga for body & soul. Truly does what yoga's supposed to do โ "yoke," "unite." Abhaya is a great yoga studio, led by Tara Glazier-who is a loving, generous, deep and talented teacher for all levels of students. Taraโs breadth of knowledge is admirable- having been a dancer for many yrs., she has great physiological knowledge (partly gleaned from injury). She is also well-versed in Eastern spiritual traditions and mythologies, all of which is seamlessly woven into her classes. Wonderful and varied other teachers and a warm community of people too!

I was feeling very in my head, full of anxiety and in a generally bad mood when I walked into Eric's class on the 4th of July. I knew I needed some "something" to get grounded and I have to say, Eric ended up being the perfect thing. The poses were just deep and long enough to start calming me down but it was his accompanying lecture about freedom that really struck a chord and drove the whole thing home. This is probably going to sound eye-rollingly cliche, but I walked out feeling liberated in every sense of the word. I felt so great I rode my bike to the city and did a boxing class later that day. Thanks Eric!
