I love that Seth will modify according to your fitness level, injury or in my case 6 months post op from total knee replacement. The best part is when Seth & yourself realize you might not need modification for as many exercises. One month in I see and feel the difference. If you are looking for a gym where everyone is welcome, where you'll receive individual attention during small group sessions, where the owner and trainer is not only extremely knowledgeable about fitness, health, nutrition, anatomy and safety but is also a friendly, open-minded, respectful human being who will push and challenge you to meet your goals, then Seth and Albany Movement and Fitness are for you.

I first started working out with Seth more than 10 years ago (when I was in my mid 50s) so I could continue in my physically demanding job with pre-school age children with special needs. More than once I left AMF to try something different, but I always came back because Seth is the best! Now that I'm retired and pushing 70, staying fit is more important than ever because being strong empowers me to do the things I love such as downhill skiing, bike riding, playing and running around with my 3 year old grandson, hiking and kayaking.

As for the facility itself, AMF has a wide variety of equipment (much of which is new in the past year) and the space is kept clean and well organized. There are regularly scheduled sessions with workouts planned and led by a certified trainer, as well as 24 hour access if you prefer to come in on your own.

I encourage you to check out AMF. There is a place for everyone here and Seth will definately help you meet your goals!

Albany Movement and Fitness (AMF) is a top notch gym and training facility! Transformations happen within the walls of AMF! I joined as a member of a 12 week challenge after a few years of not exercising at all. I lost weight, gained strength and developed a newfound love for fitness. Once the 12 week challenge ended, I knew that AMF was where I would continue to pursue my health and wellness. Seth Thomas is an ultimate professional who is extremely knowledgeable, positive, challenging and laser focused on his clients’ progress. Members receive personalized attention and direction during group sessions. The gym itself is clean, welcoming and fully stocked with the best (and brand new!) equipment. Being independently owned and boutique provides a more comfortable and intimate setting to pursue your fitness goals. I wouldn’t train anywhere else! The best in the 518, hand down!

I’ve been working out at AMF for 18 months and I love it! Before I can here I was having trouble staying active and I was having joint pain. Since I started here, I’ve gained physical strength and improved my flexibility. I’ve also learned as TON from Seth about the importance of mindset and discipline. The programs are simple, and they strike a perfect balance of strength training, cardio, and flexibility. The gym itself is large and spacious. AMF has changed my life. Before joining the gym, I had given up on losing weight. But I wanted to improve my fitness, at the very least. Much to my surprise, I have now lost 55 lbs. Even more importantly than that, Seth’s workouts have empowered me to do things I never thought possible at my age, like doing push-ups on the floor, completing multi-day backpacking trips, and learning to ski, just to name a few! I've trained with Seth at Albany Movement & Fitness for about two years now. Seth knows his stuff, is very well-educated on fitness and anatomy and stays up-to-date on the latest science and industry information. He focuses on form and knowledge first, to properly inform technique and reduce chances for avoidable injury. His attitude is positive and upbeat, but he'll encourage clients to safely push themselves toward positive growth.

Seth takes the time to know each client's goals making a group training class feel more like a 'one-on-one' with a personal trainer. Group classes are typically small and never feel crowded. Great value and convenient location in Albany.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the other trainers working under Seth's guidance. It is a diverse group of passionate people that only add to the program value.

I went here for a few months 3x a week and I look better and am stronger. If your fitness goals are to burn calories or gain strength then this is the place to go because they have a planned routine and good instructors. But I guess I'm bias because I enjoyed it, got results, and liked the people. So I'll tell you who it isn't for. It's not for people who come expecting isolation machines because they dont have that, they work your whole body. And it's not for people who want to go just for pics or to say they went, I left sweating every time and so did everyone else. Plus there is a lot more I could say, like how Seth (the owner) is jacked and really knows his stuff, or how motivating it is to work out with other people, but if you're serious about your fitness goals I recommend AMF.

I started my fitness journey at AMF about 3 months ago. In the past I haven't been a fan of the average gym experience and I wanted to try something different which led me to AMF. My goal was to feel good, lose weight, and be healthier. I was definitely skeptical at first due to bad past experiences. However, as soon as my first session that changed and I was pleasantly surprised. I had never worked out in a group training session before but I absolutely love it. It is challenging, fun, and motivating. Everyday that I go the routines are different which keeps it fresh. Seth and Chaitanya have been very approachable and helpful throughout my journey so far. Seth is super supportive of individual capabilities and needs without making anyone feel different. The environment(from the staff and the other clients) is welcoming, inclusive, non-judgmental, motivating, and lots of fun. It is a really great workout with really good people. He’s extremely knowledgeable in his craft but more then that he cares. His passion for fitness and people are clearly seen from the first time I met him. His main goal is making sure you reach your goal! There’s lot of trainers in this industry that forget who you are the second you walk out the door, but not him. He works tirelessly from the second you walk in and after you leave to make sure you received the best experience and the best results. Seth is awesome! I came to him from a powerlifting background which allowed me to accumulate raw strength but left me lacking in functional mobility. He took the time to meet with me and develop a program to address my shortcomings and goals. Seth has numerous certifications, but more important to me - he possesses a wealth of knowledge which he draws upon to help you achieve whatever goals you set.

Aside from private instruction I also took some of the group classes. These classes are great and foster a feeling of community where everybody is encouraging and helping you to get through the workout.

He was nice and a okay trainer (I maintained my weight and loss a inch which I was more happy about then he was). However, the business side was a mess: changing billing and scheduling systems multiple times, changing locations, dates, and times, lack of good communication, and posting videos of me working out on social media without telling me. Would have been a much better experience if he was a part of a larger, more structured organization, like Planet Fitness.

Although I did see results in getting in shape I found that the service the owner provided was less than stellar when it came to getting responses back and being charged on my card for sessions or in the result of my canceling the membership. An extra month of membership fees was charged to my card after I specifically reminded the owner, Seth Thomas, at my last session to make sure not to charge my account. Several times the owner requested dates and times for make-up work out sessions because he cancelled the session (typically only an 1 hour or less before the session start, even as a client we are supposed to give 24 hour notice) and never responded to my text when I gave times. This resulted in frustration and inconvenience for me since I would plan around these sessions. Finally, even though I paid for one-on-one sessions, once I reminded the Seth I put in my notice to cancel (and had to remind him a couple of times) most of my sessions were combined with other people being trained at the same time, and half the time I was working out on my own because he was running late with other clients.
All in all, I admit I did receive results from the gym for the first couple of months when I was working with another trainer that was employed there, the subpar customer service and frustration from errors and non-communication from the owner outweighed my decision on terminating my membership.
