The gym seems to focus primarily on its kidsβ programs and pool facilities, which appear to be the main revenue drivers. Unfortunately, this leaves the fitness area itself somewhat neglected. While the membership price ($75/month) is reasonable, the gym offers only the bare essentials for effective workouts.
Equipment maintenance is slowβbroken benches can take months to repair or replace. During peak hours, the limited number of machines means everything is often in use, forcing members to wait rather than adapt their workouts.
Unlike many gyms that oversupply treadmills, Asphalt Green has the opposite issue. With only five treadmills, theyβre almost always occupied during busy times, making functional or interval training difficult. Meanwhile, thereβs an excess of bikes and ellipticals that rarely see use.

The gym overall caters to their kids' program and the pool, which are the money making of the business. The gym alone, although decently priced ($75/month) is neglected and has just the bare minimum for your workouts.
Benches break and it takes months to be either repaired or replaced.
Due to limited machine availability, during peak hours all machines are frequently in use at the same time, leaving no choice but to wait rather than adjust the workout.
I often complain about the exaggerated supply of treadmills in commercial gyms. At Asphalt Green is the opposite. With only 5 treadmills they are consistently occupied during peak hours, disrupting functional and interval training. Meanwhile, the numerous bikes and ellipticals remain underutilized.
The absence of machines like a Smith machine, chest/shoulder press, and incline bench has limited our ability to complete well-rounded strength workouts.
Overall, it's OK for casual gym goers - but if you are serious about your gym and strength training routine this place will quickly make you feel constrained. The neglecting of the equipment also just adds to the overall 'unwelcomeness' of the space.
The floor staff is nice, though.
Because of these reasons we had to cancel our membership, and we found a more suitable place to our needs.

Along with the UES campus, Asphalt Green has some of the best pools in NYC. Special shoutout to Lisbeth! She was incredible kind and helpful when I signed up for my membership. Really appreciate it. :)

So the gym air conditioner is not working at all and they asked us to take a workout to the pool. But the pool is inaccessible most of the time for gym member(not accessible from around 9:30am to 7pm)and even on the weekend the amount of lane opened is really small. So I am not sure what to do at a gym except pay them monthly memebership.

Signed up for this gym because I was told the basketball court was open to use at all hours and typically empty. After I signed up, they informed me I could only use the gym after 9pm (closes at 10). After a few months, they informed me the gym was only available before 4pm (I have a job). After another month, they changed the hours to 5am-6am and 12pm-1pm for members. I and all the other usual users of the court tried to end our memberships and asked for the cancellation fee to be waived and they declined. This warping of hours for members took place for the pool as well. Do not sign up for this gym unless you are prepared for you - a paying member - to be placed last on the priority list.

Member for a couple years now but considering canceling. Maybe my expectations are excessive but the pool is consistently overcrowded in the AM regardless of time (4-5 per lane); lifeguards donβt actively manage (e.g. swim paces, lane closures). Gym equipment breaks frequently (two of five treadmills currently out of order) and only one of six menβs showers has hot water.

The most incompetent front desk team. They couldnβt find our registration and they sent us in the wrong directions. They knew that we went in the wrong direction, but nobody stopped us. We lost 20 mins of class looking for the right room and the 3-year old was in tears.

My kids and nephew are attending the summer camp. The experience is very poor. The cost of the camp is very expensive for a very standard camp. It's not worth the money.

When I was signing up for an asphalt green membership I was not aware that I was signing up for Madison square garden. Just how MSG hosts other activities in their gym like hockey, asphalt green hosts other random things like 5 year olds playing volleyball.
They put their actual members who pay hundreds of bucks second, and never let them actually use the court. Every time I come the gym is occupied, or they have a reason why I canβt use it. They make it seem like it is such a high profile gym like MSG and treat it like that to, by not letting people in.

By far the worst gym I have been to. They promised we would be able to play basketball in the gym all the time. We are never able to play, they always have some new excuse or reason why we can't. The gym will literally be empty sometimes and they will tell us we can't play. They also close the gym super early, and have constant "activities" going on in the gym (which is normally one kid playing volleyball with a useless asphalt green employee.

I have been a member here on and off for over 10 years and I really love the facilities and the atmosphere. It has a nice mix of family friendly energy as well as those seeking serious athletic performance. Personally I really appreciate the necks of children, elderly, and the more serious athletic types.

this gym blows. it's literally a children's' playground with some gym equipment. if you're joining for the basketball court, just assume there is no basketball court. it is reserved for children's tennis lessons and other random things 90% of the time. on top of all of that, the staff is rude and their mask policy is comical. the only gym i'm aware of in nyc still requiring masks while working out. all in all: if you're 7 years old and don't care about access to facilities (which you pay for and they claim are always available LOL), then this is the place for you.

If you buying less than a year , you consider as non member of club and have to pay 1$ for towel , its first club where you have to pay for towel if you less than a year, so I didnβt take a wallet last time with me , and canβt go to pool and shower because do not have towel , even my paid month just started not gonna go there again, altitude of workers not worth it

i like the pool but horrible website thats not really functional (sign up button for class doesnt work) and whenever I call I get transferred to a number that usually doesnt pick up the call and emails arent not responsive either once you get the membership.
Edit: ye the website seems to have been fixed. I like my trainers - Dre and Shomari - but the management still is super unresponsive and never get back to my email/phone calls in time and I have absolutely no clue why they're so slow.

A solid set of facilities to be found here: 6 lane pool, indoor basketball court, outdoor AstroTurf for soccer/baseball/football, and a modest sized gym. Facilities are new as of 2014 and has a friendly atmosphere balancing an attitude somewhere between a serious workout facility as well as welcoming for children. Home of Asphalt Green Tri Club
