I really like this gym, the trainers for the classes are all very good, the swimming pool is huge and well maintained although during summer camp season it can be overcrowded by kids.
The changing room, showers and facilities are always clean and never busy.

Asphalt Green has gone downhill over the years. The management canโ€™t even enforce their own rules/policies. The field has a NO DOGS policy, with a huge sign stating so. Yet the security doesnโ€™t do anything about unleashed dogs running around. And letโ€™s not get started about the no noise amplification policy. Why does your sound system continue to be unreasonably/obnoxiously loud ALL the time, on top of people screaming into the microphone? PLEASE have respect for people who live in the area. AG is not a concert venue.

While the quality of the pitch is excellent, we've had to wait for large amounts of time to open the gate in the morning at the time that's posted on their website. You can imagine the frustration this causes.

Today was the worst where, we waited for almost an hour and still no one showed up.

The opening times that your website specifies for the field on Upper East side are inorrect. I have been attempting to play on Sundays and the person who is supposed to open it at 6AM never does. Today, on 6/15/25, at 6:30 AM all gates are still closed and locked (and the field is open for use accoring to your calendar). With the amount of funding that this organization is getting, it should be able to hire people that are at least somewhat competent.

If you love swimming and you live nearby, then this gym is a no brainer. The pool is massive. The workout area could be bigger but it has five power racks and a bunch of benches. If you go during non peak hours then this gym is a steal.

I wanted to like Asphalt Green, but their handling of recent billing issues has been unacceptable and frustrating. The facility was unexpectedly closed for 12 days in February/March, and although they promised a small credit as a goodwill gesture for all members, they made it nearly impossible for members to claim their credit. Months later, after multiple emails with the Billing Team and the alleged โ€œDirector of Customer Experienceโ€, my credit still hasnโ€™t been applied and this is still unresolved.

Asphalt Green should never have promised a credit if they had no intention of honoring it. This is deceptive and unfair business practice. I would not recommend this gym to anyone โ€” itโ€™s clear Asphalt Green only cares about getting your money, not about providing honest or respectful service.

We had a closure for 12 days, which started a chain of back and forth emails due to the lack of certainty when it came to reopening, with quite a lot of frustration involved. I'm pleased to share that Asphalt Green has addressed my concerns (after several back and forth emails) regarding the recent facility closure. They've offered account credit to all customers as a gesture of appreciation for our patience, which I found to be a fair and satisfactory resolution. While the closure was certainly disruptive, I appreciate their efforts to rectify the situation. It's clear they value their members, and I'm now feeling much more positive about my membership.

Asphalt Green is an exceptional destination for children of all ages, providing a fun and engaging environment to learn various sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, and karate. Adults can enjoy the top-notch gym and Olympic-size swimming pool, making it an outstanding choice for fitness. Additionally, Spear Physical Therapy, located on the 5th floor, offers comprehensive services and accepts all insurances, including Medicare.

However, it's important to note that the pricing can be quite high, especially when seeking a personal trainer. For public members, the cost is $832.50, while members pay $707.63 for four months. One daily session may not be practical, as they only offer training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with added costs on those days. Moreover, Asphalt Green currently does not provide discounts for seniors or individuals with disabilities. Many patrons and staff believe that implementing a discount would significantly enhance accessibility and benefit the community. Investing in these changes could make Asphalt Green an even more inclusive and attractive place for everyone.

This is one of the very best swimming pools I've ever swum at, and those pools include Harvard's in Cambridge, Mass., The Mt. Auburn Club, whose pool was just marvelous and nearly always empty, until it closed a couple years ago (a real loss to the area). Asphalt Green has two huge pools with a godzillion lanes (well, not a godzillion, but plenty). If you go at the right times ( in the evening after 8, in the afternoon around 2:30, there will be at least two lanes with two people or less.) The women's locker room is marvelous, pristine, with plenty of towels, deodorant, body lotion, hair spray, and in the showers shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. You can't ask for anything more, can you? And the pool attendants and personnel at the front desk are just as nice as they can be.

Hands down to staff members at AG. I came with a bunch of problems that needed to be taken care of, and they were ABOVE AND BEYOND solving each one of them. They were not only polite and understanding, but they genuinely cared. Christopher Hernandez, Samantha Logan, and Kayla Gutierrez are THE GUYS! I had to ask them their names because I feel we don't recognize enough in public when people do good. Thank you so much!

OK facility, especially when you consider there aren't many options this far up on the UES and pools are hard to find in NYC. The equipment and gym space are older but usable. The locker room is clean if you're looking to change quickly, however I won't venture into the steam rooms /showers I've seen some questionable activities, and the staff doesn't seem to care about it.

Attended a soccer game. The field is turf and very fast. They have basketball courts too. Plenty of picnic tables and a vending machine. Indoor clear bathrooms are available.i noticed the engineers came through to clear any garbage and maintain cleanliness. Parking is on the street and very limited. Gym equipment and facility are terrible at best. Super crowded. Lack of AC makes it feel like youโ€™re working out on the sun even in the middle of winter. The pool, the pool, the pool. Like Goldilocks, I have tried other pools. The Dodge Y, the Chinatown Y, Chelsea Piers, pools in my apartment building. To quote the late Sinead O'Connor, nothing compares. I trained for two triathlons here, so know the bottom of this pool intimately. And the pool is always clean, perfectly maintained, and a joy! It's Olympic-sized. What I like is that there's typically not a lot of crowding in the lap lanes, so you don't run into the (common) issue of other swimmers tickling your toes or slowing your rhythm. Swimming at Asphalt Green is a mermaid's dream.

The water is so insanely cold, even in a wetsuit it's borderline impossible to enjoy the swimming. Little kids really suffer and hate coming here because of that. No other pool in the city is so freezing. Despite charging high prices Asphalt Green doesn't bother to spend money on heating up the water

This place is abysmal. We signed up for swim classes where you need to pay about $1000 up front for the classes. Then their rickety old pool broke and half these classes were cancelled. They refuse to refund the money. Our kid misses out on swimming all Spring. Also their pool is filthy. I have gotten cellulitis literally three times after swimming there. The place is an absolute chaotic mess with different locker rooms scattered around without rhyme or reason. Loud, cramped awful just awful.

I've put off this review for years because I depend on Asphalt Green for its pool. I don't mind that it's a semi-public, not-at-all-fancy place. For over twenty years, supported its mission. I paid to take private lessons with an instructor named Stewart and he refused to give private swimming lessons to my child because he is autistic, even worse when I filed a complaint in the lobby they told me that they were going to call security and the police so that take them out of the place, despite the fact that I explain the practice of discrimination committed against my son.

If you have an autistic child, DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE SO YOU WILL NOT BE DISCRIMINATED.

Swimming lessons for kids 5 - 8
Only giving 1 star because we really like the instructors. No kid should be treated the way my child was. Even more when I was very specific about my kid having learning difficulties. My child was going in and out of the water and suddenly The lifeguard, screaming hysterically went ahead and put a very high pitch whistle on his ear and wouldnโ€™t stoped screaming at my kid. I was at the pool because I have told the staff I needed to be there for my on the spectrum twins. So I could intervene!. The staff always insisted in me waiting outside, but given the circumstances that we have had unfortunate experiences in other facilities, we requested to be in the pool, which they allowed. After the very bad experience, they do NOT want us in the pool. WE ARE SUPER DISAPPOINTED that they would like to harm children without the parents looking. DO NOT JOIN your child here! Do yourself a favor, Moreso if your child is disabled, or on the spectrum. Super SAD what they do to kids in that facility. It really felt like a violation. No kindness, no acceptance, no inclusion, 0 COMPASSION!

My son is in the Saturday soccer program. I'm extremely disappointed how the program is going so far.

1. The program has been primarily about more than 20 kids playing freely and widely. There was little to no organization, let alone drill, practice or instructions. The coaches started by throwing the ball in the air, without even any warm-up. Then it was just wild chasing after the ball, kids pushing each other.

2. The coaches just stood there watching on. No instructions, no strategy, no team morale building, nothing.

3. One coach pretty much just sat by a goal post, lounging, looking at his phone, talking on his phone, for the entire hour.

A bunch of parents around me were disappointed too. One parent said it's like daycare, and he mentioned the other soccer club is a much stronger program than Asphalt Green's program.

Asphalt Green does not allow cancellation after the 2nd training session but they don't make changes to their program. Really disappointed. Will look for other soccer programs.

AG has been a wonderful recreation and health center for my family for over 20 years. At AG, our daughter attended camp for 4 years, learned to swim, excelled as a gymnast, and now works out at the gym when home from college. I participate in several exercise classes and almost always have easy access to the many machines, bikes and other equipment. Its membership dues coincide with the Yorkville rent and UES cost of living. AG is a great community resource!

Every time that I go to the Litwin Field, I check to make sure itโ€™s open, and every time I show up, itโ€™s โ€™occupiedโ€™. Probably one of the worst run facilities Iโ€™ve been to, the staff is usually rude if Iโ€™m to ask them why the field is closed. Other than that, when the field is open the facility is fine.

The pool facility is fine, always crowded. But not worth the hassle of membership. And the gym is a rotting joke.

DONT BECOME A MEMBER. They ROB you.

Just like others posting on the forum, I got robbed by Asphalt green. in 2015 I early terminated their membership due to travel/visa reasons. It was lengthy process to terminate the agreement, had to pay $125/-, but the agreement was signed on paper. No email copy of the termination was mailed.

Fast forward 4 years, I get a random THREATENING CALL to collect "unpaid dues". I followed up with Asphalt green billing department, who wanted to see an "email copy" which was never sent. There is the catch 22. I said I could furnish the proof for reason for early termination, they didn't bother to care. The whole staff is extremely unhelpful.

Stay away, plenty of exercise options available in the city!

A cheap membership at a poorly managed facility, you get what you pay for. Over the past two and a half years that I have been a member, the facility has been under constant maintenance, never fully opened. Much of the equipment, such as the treadmills, elevators, or even turnstiles, are often out-of-order. Schedule changes are frequent but poorly, if at all, communicated. They replaced a significant amount of the gym floor area with an artificial turf that gets minimal use, but displaces much of the equipment that is often used at capacity (such as the racks and benches). Membership here is significantly cheaper than many of the gyms in the area, but you will notice the lack of quality of facilities and their management quickly.

Asphalt Green is a great facility however itโ€™s not worth the money. The member locker rooms, pool and other facilities are always closed for โ€˜maintenance.โ€™

Staff are hit and miss. The customer service 9 out of 10 times is horrible.

Heres an example of the abysmal customer service. I called asphalt green for advice on cancelling my membership as I was moving overseas. I was told I just had to come in and sign a form the week before leaving. That was the advice asphalt green staff gave me, so I trusted the advice given and followed it.

Fast forward 19 days, I turned up to sign the form and was told i would be charged a 30 day notice period from signature. Now Iโ€™m paying for a membership and wonโ€™t even be in the country to use it.

Worst part is, asphalt green didnโ€™t take responsibility for the incorrect information provided and said it โ€˜must have been someone in another department or a new employee.โ€™ How is that for customer service. How is that for looking after loyal customers.โ€™

Anyway, itโ€™s not worth the price for facilities that are constantly not available to you. And until they learn to look after members, youโ€™re better off finding another place.

I am just right here at Kanga indoor play center with my child With her friend. I saw asphalt camper kids playing around. My kid wanted to go to balls tub or what do we call it any ways. There is one kid hitting all the other kids with balls on their faces and making them cry. I even try to tell that kid not to do so but he dint listen so I looked for the camper staff and told her that there is kid who is hitting other camper kids but she didnโ€™t seems very concern and I went back and looked around to see if someone coming to stop that kid but no one showed up and that really disturbed my mind to think of what if that happens to my kid when she goes to camp and staff donโ€™t care much than talking with other staff. I m not saying all camps are same neither the staff but they should be very concerned specially some other person comes to you and telling you something about their students behavior. Thatโ€™s their job to look after all kids not just few!

Was a member for 2 years. The facility was usually dirty, the membership price was too high for what they offered, and the customer service was very hit-or-miss. I give it two stars because it was rarely crowded and the atmosphere was pretty relaxed. I wouldnโ€™t recommend this place to anyone in the area.

That said, while I donโ€™t have children, I think it very family friendly and has a lot of programs for kids, so thatโ€™s a plus.

The Asphalt Green doesnโ€™t care about your kids or its neighbors. If you are looking for a day camp or facility for childrenโ€™s activities, I would suggest looking elsewhere. The day camp website pledges to teach children โ€œEMPATHY - Understand others by walking in their shoes.โ€ However, they disturb everyone in the neighborhood by BLASTING amplified music and announcements starting around 8am every day. I live several stories up, a few thousand feet away from where the sound is coming from. I have my windows shut and my AC on, and it still disturbs me. I can only imagine how loud it is next to the actual source. How can this be safe for young children? Doesnโ€™t it damage their hearing? The level of noise is absurd and is totally unnecessary. If you want to send your kids to a cheesy program where they will be exposed to a horrible MC blasting bad music and corny announcements on a daily basis, and where they will be taught not to care about their neighbors or the people around them, this is the place for you!

If you are looking for a legit travel soccer program, dont look here. They are trying desperately to be a top tier club but are far from it. They play in 2nd tier leagues. they dont get accepted to big tournaments. their desperation to be relevant makes them treat kids poorly. The technical director in particular is nasty . If looking for a soccer club for your child where there will be high quality soccer, worthwhile tournaments and a positive environment look elsewhere - you are better off saving your money and playing rec which this club basically is, or going to a real club of which there are many choices.

The management is terrible. When I first toured, I asked if there was basketball and was told there was, only to find out the only court they have is outside and open to the public. I also joined because there was a sauna and steam room- both closed about 2 months after I'd joined. AG has pushed the reopening back countless times, stringing me along and taking my money each month. First it was set to open at the end of summer, then the end of the year, then January, now APRIL 30th is the new date they've chosen to say it will reopen. I had to keep paying full membership for a year despite their whole facility being open or pay additional cancellation fees and lose months I've paid ahead for.

Dont waste your time with these thieves, they only want your money and dont care about customer service!
