I’ve been coming to this location for over five years and it was great up until the recent PureGym takeover.

1. Staff has been significantly reduced

2. Broken machines aren’t marked

3. You now have to scan a QR code to unlock a revolving pod to enter/exit the gym which causes lines and not only feels humiliating but like a massive fire hazard

4. They don’t respond to emails when you try to address these concerns

I’ve been a member since 2022. They have a weird claustrophobic entrance that I do not feel safe going through. Employee tried to direct me to claustrophobic entrance instead of the door way. Pure gym should have invested money in new devices rather than designing unsafe entrances. Employee is literally blocking fire exit and preventing people from exiting using the door. This is a fire hazard. NYC fire department needs to be called and sanction pure gym.

Update: The exit door is sealed from the inside. It’s locked by magnets and only opens when an id has been scanned. Sorry but I just don’t trust a gym that couldn’t handle fixing ac for two years and has broken machines everywhere to have a fail safety mechanism for the locked door if there was a fire. Pure Gym is ignoring fire safety in the interest of corporate greed. Guess this is what happens when venture capitalist buy a gym chain.

Update 3: Just got to the gym. Gym staff doesn’t understand ada compliance. Manager had previously added me the handicap door list. I used the door to access the gym and was granted access. However, one of the employees at the front desk smugly told me I can’t use the door. He’s just assuming disability or lack of disability. Nys needs to investigate pure gym for ada compliance in addition to fire safety.

I thought requiring an app to get in was annoying, but I accepted it.

Now they've just switched it to require an app and stepping through a wierd glass coffin to get in and out. You scan the app, wait, step into the coffin, wait, then can step out. Feels cruel and unusual and obviously makes it much slower to get in.

Genuinely disgusting level of disregard for the customers' experience.

The lines to get in and out are long, but the Wi-Fi is the biggest issue—it barely works anywhere in the gym. On top of that, mobile data is almost useless in most areas. Really disappointing compared to how it used to be.

This location, specifically, is by far the worst in the franchise starting with its management.

On one occasion, the “manager” questioned whether my sister had signed in while she was simply waiting for me to resolve an issue on my account, an issue caused by the company. I have autopay set up, so I shouldn’t have to worry about whether my monthly dues were taken out, especially when no email was sent. Instead, the manager stopped multiple patrons to explain that recent company name change caused the banks to reject autopay transactions.
Realistically, that’s a company problem, not mine. After my sister did check in, he approached us again as we came out of the locker room, claiming he still wasn’t sure and asked her to sign in a second time.

This week, the same manager literally ran down the stairs to tell us we couldn’t use the elevator because it was “only for people with disabilities.” Assuming someone doesn’t have a disability based on looks is ableism. He also told us we wouldn’t be allowed to enter the gym the next day because we didn’t exit through the pod. I can use any location with my membership that’s what I’m paying for. He insisted all gyms were rolling out these pods “this week,” which is simply untrue; I’ve been to other locations without them and checked in just fine. He even claimed the side door was only for people with a medical note stating they’re claustrophobic. Since when does a gym require medical documentation just to enter or exit the building?

After working out or even just to enter I do not want to stand in line to do either. This new system is not member focused in anyway.

At this point, PureGym’s repeated generic responses to bad reviews like, “we’re sorry that happened to you” feel like a slap in the face. Honestly, I’d rather go to Planet Fitness at this point.

I’ve been a member for a few years at PureGym Williamsburg but have experienced two incidents with management that were unprofessional and made me feel unwelcome.

Incident 1: I was waiting in the lobby for approximately 20 minutes for my friend to arrive. When my friend entered and I greeted them, a manager rudely approached me asking if I “needed help” in a confrontational tone. When I asked why she was questioning me, she said she didn’t know why I was “just standing there talking.” Waiting for someone in a gym lobby is normal behavior and didn’t warrant this aggressive approach.

Incident 2: I arrived to work out and was stopped by another manager who informed me I couldn’t enter because my payment hadn’t processed due to a name change. I had received NO prior notification about this payment issue. If I hadn’t brought my wallet that day, I would have been turned away entirely.

While I attempted to resolve the payment through their app, the manager repeatedly touched my phone without permission to direct me through the process - particularly concerning since I was handling financial information. After I successfully paid, I walked toward the locker room when he ran after me saying I couldn’t work out without paying. When I explained I had just paid, he insisted I return to the front desk so he could verify it himself.

The entire interaction was embarrassing and felt like unnecessary power-tripping. The combination of no payment notification, invasion of personal space, and being followed around the gym was humiliating.

I expect better professionalism from a gym I’m paying to use. Members deserve to be treated with basic respect, not suspicion and confrontation.

Place is known for dead spots which leaves you with no choice but to use your app for access to the gym. Unfortunately the app does not work often and you won't have access to the gym. I don't understand why they choose to reinvent the wheel and create new ways to access the gym when the 20+ year method of having picture profile with state ID never failed.

I’ve been a member of blink off and on for the past 7 years, and this is the least impressive gym I’ve seen. Too small not enough lifting equipment in general. But don’t worry if you want a treadmill they got you. Go to a better blink on flushing or gates ave you’re just wasting your time here.

Disappointed by the changes after the gym’s rebranding

I’ve been a member of this gym for many years, and it used to feel like a real community — welcoming, down-to-earth, and respectful of long-term members. Sadly, since the gym changed its name, everything has changed for the worse.

Recently, I had a frustrating experience when staff claimed there was no manager available, even though there was. It’s disheartening to see employees put in a position where they have to mislead loyal customers instead of helping them. Even worse, the manager I’ve known for years was made to act with unnecessary attitude toward a long-time member — something that never would have happened before the change in management.

This whole situation feels like a reflection of the gentrification happening in Williamsburg — where loyalty, community, and authenticity are being replaced by corporate behavior and indifference. After years of dedication, I expected honesty and respect, not arrogance and distance.

I hope the new ownership takes this as feedback and remembers that this neighborhood, and its people, are what made the gym special in the first place.

Came in with a friend for a short trip workout, got told by the manager that the $22 membership waived the initiation fee with a promo and included guest passes. Sounded fair, so we signed up. Then we saw “zero guest passes” on the account and realized something was off.

The same manager checked and admitted he “accidentally” gave us the wrong information. The guest passes and waived initiation only apply to the higher membership, not the one we were sold. When I asked for a fix, I said at least give us a free day pass since we were misled. He refused, saying it was a “liability issue.” I even offered to show my ID and give all my information to make it official, but he still said no, that we’d have to pay the $15 fee. That’s not liability… That’s laziness and a lack of responsibility.

He then attempted to make me upgrade to the same monthly plan my friend had, which is tied to a yearly contract. Now my friend is stuck paying a cancellation fee when he leaves. I immediately refused and he gave me the shoulder as if nothing ever happened.

This is the kind of careless service that ruins trust fast. If you tell a customer one thing, stand by it. We weren’t looking for a free ride, just honesty and accountability. Instead, we got excuses.

If you value clarity, honesty, and good customer service, go somewhere else.

This place went from bad to worse under its new ownership. The place is always dirty, their app experience is atrocious, and the staff is unprofessional. They had also canceled my membership without any notice, and then tried to hold me to a new registration fee when I arrived despite this known issue (the staff acknowledged that people hadn’t been receiving notice of their cancellations).

Blink Fitness is a great gym overall. The facility is always clean, well maintained, and organized. I really appreciate that it consistently opens on time, which makes it easy to stick to my routine. The layout feels open and welcoming, and the staff keeps things running smoothly.

The only downside is that it can get a little crowded at peak hours, but that’s expected with a popular gym. Overall, it’s a reliable and positive place to work out.

I’ve been a loyal Blink member for months, but I am extremely frustrated with this new policy making it mandatory to download the app just to get into the gym.

Not everyone is comfortable putting another tracking app on their phone, and it feels unfair that we don’t have a choice. What if I don’t have a smartphone, or I simply don’t want to use the app? I should still be able to access the gym I pay for without being forced into something I didn’t agree to when I signed up.

I come here to work out, not to feel controlled or pressured into giving up my privacy. This gym is convenient for me, but this policy makes me seriously reconsider if Blink values its members’ comfort and rights. At the very least, there should be an alternative option for entry (like scanning a key tag or checking in with ID) for members who don’t want to download the app.

I hope management listens, because forcing an app on customers is not the kind of “member experience” I signed up for and I’m honestly gonna cancel if it doesn’t change by my next bill date because I refuse to download the app . Sorry but no

This gym kept taking money for months after I cancelled the personal trainer I had there and now they're forcing EVERYONE to install their ridiculous app on our phone to access the gym rather than letting us use our key cards. I don't want Blink Fitness tracking my phone usage and personal data so I can do bench presses! Outrageous! And complaints went unheeded.

Blink Cancelled Me (So I Cancel Them)

I walked in the gym with my water and shoes,
Only to find they'd erased all my dues.
"Your membership's gone," they casually said,
Though I’d made it quite clear—don’t cancel ahead.

I sent them an email, I carefully wrote,
"Don’t cancel me yet," was the line that I note.

Came in to check out this gym on a day pass and it was rough. Front desk staff barely interested in even saying hello, didn’t show me around at all, and even though the welcome email said they sold locks, the vending machine to sell them was empty and broken. Equipment was lacking and is arranged awkwardly - you are on top of other people all the time. The worst part of all is that there is no AC in the gym, and it was extremely uncomfortable. Definitely will not be coming back.

Nobody tells you that at the beginning.

The biggest issue was that Estefany, the "manager" ask me to pay with my card, then told me they made a mistake and they need me to pay cash for the cancelation. She told me the payment didnt go through.
Indeed she kept the cash AND the payment from the bank.
Came back 1 day later and she told me she couldnt do anything about it and my only option is to call the bank and ask for the money back with them.

I like Blink because it's cheap. I've been going to this Blink for 5 years now and it's served me well. Best if you can avoid the busy times (5pm-8pm mon-thurs), it can be a real challenge to find an open machine or bench to use when it's busy. Folks there are always nice though, good staff and the other people in the gym are generally respectful & courteous. The "real time indicator" in the app is trash, just go by what Google says is historically a busy or not busy time and that's a pretty good indicator to plan when to go if you have a flexible schedule.

Clean gym with a friendly and helpful staff, which makes for a solid workout environment. Equipment is generally in good shape, but the rowing machine is definitely showing its age and could use an upgrade. Be prepared for crowds during peak hours lines for machines aren't uncommon, especially in the evenings. If you can hit it during off-peak times, it’s a convenient and well-maintained spot.

This gym is convenient for me as it is close to my home. However, the management here is ridiculous. " Steph " ( what she told me when I politely asked for her name) needs to read BLINK policies and refrain from trying to be a bully to members. She made me and my son feel unwelcome, when I stated he was my guest. He is already in the system ( which I told her after she asked) along with a picture associated w/ his name too . I also politely let her know he is in the system multiple times because staff had re-entered him multiple times ( something she could easily correct in the system, but brushed me off with ). She then made him give her his ID. Asked him after he provided it, if he was over 18. When requesting ID, shouldn't it be read to get that type of question answered? Proceeds to eyeball my son and I, and then told us we can enter. I'm tired of the attitudes, and unprofessionalism I've had to endure from this location. This isn't the first time dealing with this type of behavior, and I've seen other guests given it too. Totally childish and uncalled for. Blink please pay attention to your staff- respectfully. UPDATE: Manager was behaving suspiciously afterwards, having a PT come up to me numerous times to deal with the issue SHE caused ( fyi personal trainers are not supposed to work the front desk, and they work off commission). No accountability on her end ( just excuses ) and no apology for her behavior, calling everything a "miscommunication" that it clearly wasn't ( I'm not surprised about it either). I also noticed her sending the same staff member "Bryan" around everywhere I wanted to workout at (for about an hour), and it was as I stated earlier- CHILDISH. Whoever, is "Steph's" manager needs to look at the camera to observe this behavior. Whoever, is Steph's manager's supervisor, needs to look at this too. Besides, what manager doesn't greet their guests with courtesy, and properly identify themselves when asked? This female always has an attitude, and dampens my mood ( I don't know her, so why is she bothered by me?). I go in happy, ready to workout, only to face negativity. I do not entertain entitled behavior. Staff should do their job as per policy, nothing more or less- thank you.

I went for my first time to workout at Blink in Williamsburg and as soon as I finished changing a very rude worker (who I assume was the manager) told me I couldn’t workout with the footwear I had on. Her attitude was condescending and nasty the entire time as I am still remaining calm.
I ended up getting dressed again to go buy sneakers and as I was walking out, the lady was telling another employee the situation & making fun of & laughing about it. Very unprofessional and disrespectful. I went back to collect all my stuff and would never workout here.

I have been going to this gym for two years. They have everything you want for a good weight and cardio workout. The staff are very nice, the clientele are fun. It is always clean. The prices are amazing. All things considered, I think this Blink location is much better than any luxury gym.

My account never charges the credit card I have on file so I’m always told that my membership is past due until I have to tell the staff to charge the card on file. I’ve spoken to multiple people without any resolution. Was told today that I needed the app to change billing information, and there’s not even an option to do that on there. The staff are either unwilling or unable to help. They could be nicer, tbh.

FRUSTRATING PT.
Decent gym but poor management. When I signed up they told me which personal trainer to sign up for. Booked the guy… supposedly the best. Came to the 1st session and was told he was leaving. Passed me on to another trainer. Nice person but not as qualified or experienced as I wanted. They suggested another trainer. I met with her. She was excellent. Came for my first session and she tells me she won’t be able to work with me because management is changing their hours. They will pass me on to a 4th trainer now in the matter of a week. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Always hot, damp and musty and with limited creaky equipment, but served its purpose while I worked in the area, before I joined I was told if I no longer work in the area I’ll be allowed to cancel but then when I switched jobs and tried to cancel my membership they lied about their cancellation policies, then they lied about my membership being canceled and kept charging me, when I stopped paying they took me to collections and blew up my ‘debt’ to 1,000% of the original charge. In my opinion stay away!

I was paired up with a personal trainer Brennan
Brennan is amazing. He takes physical fitness very seriously, from a standpoint where each client has the goals and training plan set in stone before and after the session, so Brennan knows did he meet the clients goal for the session and is the client satisfied as well, whether its new exercise adjustment of proper form doing the exercise
From my experience so far with about 3 sessions I'm feeling better and healthy as well.
Brennan also shared his experience as well why fitness is so important to inspire others as well to stay fit

My experience here these past couple of years have been great ,never really had a problem with any equipment or the people here , if anything it helped me grow both mentally and physically. This certified personal trainer who came in recently named Brennan has helped me out alot ever since he arrived he has helped me tremendously, I lost weight many times and do my own work outs but with him I feel like I'm more motivated because he used to be Overweight like me so we can connect on alot of topics, trainers like him are the people we need to help our " Brothers and sisters" get to where they truly want to be ,I can't thank Brennan enough for what he has taught me. Good news: I may have found my favorite Blink location.

Bad News: It's an hour away from me, and depending on how transit is running, it could be much longer. It took me 90 minutes just to get here because transit was on its period today.

It's a very large spot, might be the largest next to the one in Bushwick, and I've made...well probably too soon to call them friends but 2 acquaintances that I easily vibed with. Staff is cool and attentive, and for a large gym, all the machines were in working order, and the weights all stayed in one place for a change, which is a shock close to peak afternoon hours.

Of course all the good gyms are in Brooklyn which is quite the reach. The only complaint is getting there which is a personal issue that I won't factor to the gym. Next time I get a chance to come here, keep up the good work. Don't slack off!

This gym is okay… The music is way to loud that you can hear it through your headphones as your own music is playing. Most of the time there’s a group of man recording each other and being extremely loud and disorderly and the staff just let them do whatever they want. I wont get into the staffs because thats a whole monster on its own. I only come here on my lazy days when I don’t want to travel further to my home gym.

This is my go-to gym. The staff is always on top of their job. Bathrooms are always clean, and the machines are wiped down daily. I opted to get a trainer. Best decision yet. This trainer Santos knows what he is doing. He's great at teaching very passionate and patient, and he is very flexible with my schedule. It's been a month, and I'm impressed with the results. Great gym, great trainers. All of the staff is very helpful and friendly, especially when you’ve been going for a while (even if you’re not in great shape). I have worked with Shiralyn, one of the trainers, and she is so helpful. Pushing you a little but staying within reach, while being a very calm and upbeat presence. You really leave feeling like you accomplished something but also like you are learning to be self-sufficient. The managers are usually on site as well to address any issues.
