Agree with the other recent reviews… the PureGym “upgrades” are an embarrassment and total waste. Instead of the pointless and ridiculous TSA-like entry they built, they could’ve invested in better equipment or a proper ventilation system.

Making people stand in line to enter a budget gym is ridiculous. No one was sneaking into this place in the first place. It’s not that special.

Management, do better, please!

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Blink. Before this became Pure Gym, the facilities were always super clean, the colors welcoming, and the staff friendly. Now it feels like all the life has been sucked out with the new atrocious paint colors and the horrible, dystopian entry pods. They're like going through airport security but creepier. It also doesn't seem safe that there's often a line now to EXIT the gym via the pods-- isn't that a major safety hazard? Also, Pure has added more machines but at the expense of the open space in the front, which was great for stretching. Its now super cramped up there, making even less space for mats. Even though it's so cheap, I don't think I'll be keeping my membership.

All the recent changes have ruined this gym. Used to be greeted by friendly staff and now you stand inside of a claustrophobic dystopian tube just so they can save a bit of money. Why do I need to scan and stand in it again just to exit? Feels like you're in jail.

The feeling of the *whole place* is weird and sad now.

I was really hoping Pure taking over would mean upgrades, but so far nothing feels like an improvement — it honestly makes me miss Blink.

Cardio equipment: There’s not enough of it, the ellipticals are outdated, and only a few treadmills even have working TV screens. And the strangest part: cardio is split between two floors. It makes zero sense. Put the weight machines on one floor and all the cardio on the other — simple.

The worst change: the new front-door “tube” entry. You scan, wait for the capsule to open, step inside, wait again for it to close behind you… and then it opens on the other side. Everyone hates it. It creates a backup for no reason, and I honestly don’t know how this setup is even fire-code compliant.

Pure, please rethink this.

I miss blink!! This new merger is awful- you need your phone to scan in and you have to enter these terrible pods that lock you in to get in. It’s no longer a nice community feel. I know they need to make money but this is just depressing.

Edit: They’ve doubled down on making it worse. To get into the gym you now need to scan a code to come and go. There was a multi person line just to leave the gym… they’ve also been adding multiple machines that have made the space crowed and cut the number of treadmills which have meant waiting… I’d suggest staying away and finding a better place if you’re not already a member.

I really enjoy the gym and have been coming for years but the recent changes by the new management are making me dislike the space.

I know it seems trivial but the space used to be painted (mostly) white/light gray with some pops of color and it made the space feel really nice and welcoming but they’ve recently just painted all the walls this dark dingy teal color and now the space just feels oppressive. To add to this they’ve been redoing the front of the gym which was a nice and open space and have walled it off only adding to how they’ve ruined it.

I also hate that I needed to install their junk app to come into the gym — slow, buggy, and needless imo since it doesn’t even do 1/10th the stuff the old app used to do.

I used to tolerate Blink, but now PureGym has me finding a different gym. It’s too bad, this location and scale of building have so much promise. The weird new doors, bad paint, haphazard upgrades and lack of staff? Also, NOT safe for non-men gym goers.

In truth, I wish a bigger, nicer gym bought up this property. Also, the smell is getting worse and worse…

November 11, 2025 update.
I deleted my old review as it really no longer applies being that this gym is under new ownership which includes changes.

Ok, so PureGym has taken over Blink - here is my take so far:

First, the open entrance area has been walled up and you will soon have to pass through a security door that looks like an airport scanner, but it’s just used to let one person in at a time. I imagine this will help to reduce staff and allow 24 hour operation?

Next, they added more machines- yay!
A large “Matrix” brand multi station machine on the second floor, some extra fly/back machines on the first floor, in addition to “booty builder” exercise machines.
Could be more coming - not sure.
Some of the old equipment still needs repair and I imagine they are still working on that.
Still lots of treadmills, a few bike machines and other cardio items.
Dumbbell area has quite a few benches and I would suggest added a few more commonly used dumbbells nlike between 30 and 50 pounders.
I don’t participate in deadlifts, squats, or straight bar exercises, so can’t really comment on that, although they do have a large area for that purpose.
Moving on,
the paint scheme and signs are being changed and it’s still in process, so can’t come to any conclusions on that yet.

As far as the locker room (men’s), they’re still relatively clean and damage free.

The staff appear friendly and I’ve never come across any rude clientele, but there are some cable machine “slammer” folk that insist on slamming the machine down after the last rep - not sure if it’s to get attention or the weight is too heavy for them, but I wish the establishment would post signs asking not to do that.
Overall, I’m happy with the gym and value for the buck.

Been coming here for 3 years and I love when it used to be “blink” gym. The new company that took over “pure gym” I do not like it at all. Reason is because they increase the price by $10 and they limited guest pass to only 4 times a month which is absurd. On top of that I don’t like the dark teal color they painted all over the wall at the gym it just feels so gloomy and sad to me. The new color scheme just Kills the gym vibe for me. Also the new revolving door is just not it for me, I like how back then I could just go straight into the gym and out the gym without going through the hassle of the revolving door. BRING BACK THE OLD BLINK AND THE PRICE/BENEFITS!!!!

** Edit after UK-based PureGym bought bankrupt Blink at fire sale price of $121 million**

They repainted the place. Now it's dark and dreary. The app is bad. Like really bad. Now you have to open the app and load a QR to scan in - no Apple Wallet integration. Clumsy. Now there's some kind of phone booth sized airlock at the entrance to control access, as if the place is some kind of spaceship or top secret lab. Super weird. Now they keep sending me emails about how my payments aren't going through and I'll lose my access, yet I see a charge from PureGym on my card for 4x what my monthly Blink charge was. I hope they rebalance the machines though. There's ***always*** a line for the squat racks while there's a million empty treadmills. Instead, they’ve added two machines and placed them where people do floor exercises and stretches – precious real estate that is too small as it is.

We'll see how PureGym, backed by private equity, will try to profit from their investment. Expecting the usual playbook of fee increases and cost-cutting.

But start with that absolute garbage app. If you're going to make everybody use it then at least implement wallet integration.

** Original review **

I've been going to this gym since the week it opened many years ago. Here are some thoughts about it.

• It's a good value gym. You kind of have to judge a place by the value exchange. I pay $19/month – absolutely the lowest I've ever paid for a gym in NYC. What you get for that, in my view, is a good value. You have to keep expectations in proportion to that.
• If you use the weight floor or need particular machines, you must avoid going at busy times. It's impossible to get an efficient workout in. Just the way it is. At their price point and the location (there aren't many gyms around there) it attracts tons of people from nearby neighborhoods. They're like an oversold, "extremely full" flight on a low cost domestic airline.
• I never use the locker room to store anything of value or use the showers. It's just not at the level where I'm trusting anything that happens in there.
• A personal gripe of mine: They need *at least* one more squat rack. There's routinely a line of people waiting for them. Some days it's 7 or 8 people deep. It is the only place where you see a queue of people, and there is nearly always a wait unless it's a very off-peak moment like 11am on a Tuesday. This occurs regularly while the treadmills and ellipticals are rarely 100% utilized (even at peak hours on days when the weather is crappy and nobody wants to run outside). Some people try to cheat the unspoken social system that has developed to manage this by telling the person using the machine to "reserve" their place (e.g. "I got this after you") like saving seats at a busy theater. No. It doesn't work that way. Stand in line like everyone else. In my opinion the management has an opportunity open up space that empty treadmills currently consume and add a rack. This should better reflect the actual demand for those things.
• Things take a long time to be repaired. As I write this, there's a bike - one of two of its kind - that's been out of service for weeks. Water fountains take weeks to repair, etc. It's not Equinox, I get it. It is what it is. Things don't happen fast there.
• Not that I pay much attention to the TVs there, but I appreciate that they don't have authoritarian propaganda on them (in all my years going there, I only observed that on one day).
• A lot of gyms have this problem, but occasionally some bros camp in an area and have no regard for anyone else's right to reasonable access shared equipment. They bring their bags and jugs of water them and lay claim to an area. They'll tie up 5 pairs of dumbbells at a time for themselves. Others set up camp at a squat rack (which I already described as extremely scarce) and stay there for 90 minutes.
• The staff is good. They do their best to keep things clean and generally they do a good job and I very much appreciate their efforts and work.

Updating my review because there are some issues that need to be addressed here by the new management, beyond just the insane fact that I have to use an app to scan in. First, ever since the management change it has become way too hot in the gym. Especially by the back treadmills on the ground floor, it's super stuffy. The reason I don't run outside is because I don't want to get overheated, now it's worse inside than it is outside. Also, the treadmills only get three channels, and half the time one of them is frozen. When these things are fixed I will consider updating my review. It's a great gym and a great location with great prices, but this stuff is just lazy.

I love this gym but cannot STAND the fact that they now require you to clog your phone with their app and show a QR code every time you enter. Dealbreaker for me.

The merger made this gym less useful, seems like no budget on maintenance for padded equipment that needs repair. The app garbage too, can’t put into wallet on wearables, no key tag, I’m forced to bring my phone and a lock. No communication available from blink either. I probably will look elsewhere when my membership expires. I feel bad for the staff.

I've been to a handful of Blinks, and this one is solid. Been going for about 3 years. Friendly staff, gym community is polite. No fuss. My only complaint would be the amount of cardio machines as they could benefit from one more squat rack especially during busy hours. Not the fanciest, but gets the job done for the local rate that I pay.

Could not possibly recommend less. Completely absurd, nonsensical, and predatory fees. I thought I was signing up for a $15 membership and all of a sudden I'm being charged $20 one month and $40 the next month. When I tried to cancel, they tell me it will be $145 - JUST TO CANCEL. The customer service representative was snarky and acted like it was crazy that I didn't think I should have to pay for a service I have not used and do not intend to use.

Would not recommend you get a membership here, had my bag, including wallet and house keys, stolen from my locker, which was locked and secured, when I asked to talk to the manager and see the film of the security cameras, I was told the manager was dealing with another priority issue going on, and that I should go file a police report. When I got to the precinct they told me I had to call 911 from the gym, so I went back to the gym, called and reported and waited for an hour and a half for the police, in which time the manager nor any employees talked to me about the situation.

The responding officer also said this was the second time in a couple months they’d responded to a call about someone having thier belongings stolen from thier locker.

Update to my previous review regarding how this Blink fitness handled the situation where all of my belongings were stolen from my locker.

After a week of dealing with continuous phone calls from the police about the incident, I went back to this Blink today because unfortunately this is the closest and most affordable gym in the area, and after checking in was followed up the stairs by an employee who told me i needed to come back to the front desk and take a picture for my “Blink profile”

After asking why now, after about 6 months of having a membership here with my account not having a picture, do I need to have a picture taken? Was it because I had all my stuff stolen from my locker, still unaddressed by Blink? Was it because someone had to file a police report in thier gym and they realized they didn’t even have a picture of the member?

And yes, after they took it, still no acknowledgement of the situation from any manager. If you can help it by any means, I would not sign up for a membership here

I visit Blink Park Slope regularly and have a membership. Although I scanned in and noticed that my account showed as past due (by just one day), I explained to the man at the front desk (who had medium-length black hair and a beard and seemed to be having a bad day or something ) that my payment would post tomorrow, as it has in the past. I also mentioned that my friend, as she has done before, would scan me in as her guest(i used to come in as a guest before i got my membership) Despite this, he still declined us entry. He was extremely rude and inconsiderate. I understand there are rules, but he was already being rude to another person, and it felt like he just wanted to carry that negative attitude over to me and my friend.

Keep it going.

Way too many cardio machines and too few benches. Only 2 benches for a gym this size is absurd and there's always a line. Lots of the treadmills are broken anyways as the belt slips when running. Again, they should replace them with more benches.

They also really need to put curtains in front of the squat rack by the window because it's unusable for much of the evening during peak hours due to the sun. You can see people avoiding that rack. I've told the staff this and they claimed they'd pass it along to management, but nothing has changed.

I used to go to planet fitness and they had so many machines of different variety. This gym is very small considering how so many people come here.

The motivating thing is that everyone is really into their workout. I’ve never been to a gym where so many are working out HARD.

This place is way too small even though it’s got 3 floors. It gets way too crowded to the point where people were waiting around for a spot to open up in the front section of the first floor. Last week, it felt like almost 1 person was using each machine. I wish blink was bigger or that a second huge gym would open up. I’m thinking of maybe going to another gym and leaving blink asap. I just signed up a few weeks ago but I can’t stand the lack of space and how crowded it gets!!

The sign up process took a while since they needed my physical card which I didn’t have at the time. They need to upgrade their equipment to make the sign up process smoother. It taught me to carry my credit card around.

I do like the locker room even though it is a bit small.

The staff and management are kind, respectful, helpful and professional which I really appreciate.

Long story short, this is a very bad gym. Short story long, water fountains are broke but they’re not offering free water and they didn’t send a notification out. The ac is often broken to the point that I’m nauseous in the summer if I have an intense workout. But even if it’s not broke they keep it too high to cool you off. There’s often a line for a lot of the rack weights and to top it all off they close at like 6 on weekends so I don’t have time to go when I get off work. But they’re open in the morning when no one’s gonna be there early, at least on the weekend but they always have to kick people out when they close. It’s by far the cheapest gym in the area so classic you get what you pay for. Get swole or die trying.

The negative reviews for this location kind of baffle me, so I want to set the record straight a little because this is my preferred Blink location:
I travel from Manhattan to use this location sometimes because I find it to be SO well-ran and kept compared to others. Even at its busiest hours, it’s almost always possible to get a great workout in. More often than not though, it’s NOT crowded at all, with plenty of open equipment.
I can’t think of a single time when any of the machines were down, which I’m sure happens, but that means the employees must be actively fixing things quickly!
I like the three floor layout because there is some repeating equipment, which means if something is being used on the 2nd floor, I can go to the Basement floor and use it there.
The staff is exceptional: always cheerful, helpful, and someone is always cleaning. It always feels well-staffed with great people.
The cleaning towels are always available. At other locations this isn’t the case.
Edit: MARC & DANI are the names of two employees who especially always seem diligent about keeping it clean for everyone :).
Lastly, some of the negative reviews about “only having two benches,” equipment quantity, etc make me think that a LOT of the negative reviews aren’t talking about the correct location, or just wanted to leave a negative review. Gyms can be overwhelming for people when they see lots of people or equipment they want to use is occupied, but gyms are a shared community space you choose to participate in, and some people could stand to implement some problem-solving for themselves before deciding to disparage a really well-run location.

Been coming to this gym since August 2023 and given how busy of a location it is, it’s still easy to do the workouts I want to do! My main issue is that over the last month, I have started seeing dead roaches around the basement level and today I saw a live on crawling around the men’s bathroom. Hopefully the gym has an exterminator on hand that can come temper the problem before it gets bad since seeing roaches out in broad daylight is a sign of a much larger infestation.

Not a bad gym - clean and good selection of equipment, and the staff are friendly, which is why I’m giving 3 stars (based on this location alone it would be higher…)
My comment is specifically related to the communications (or lack thereof) from Blink Fitness as an organisation.
I know gyms are notorious for ripping people off, but to charge an additional $60 ‘maintenance fee’ on top of the membership fee, after less than 3 months of membership AND at the start of December when people are budgeting for the already expensive year end, really frustrated me.
What is a membership fee if maintenance isn’t already included? May as well spread it across the year and incorporate into the general monthly membership!
The tipping point is it was just taken out of our bank account, a couple of days after the monthly fee, and without any explanation as to what it was for…
Guys, come on - you can do better.

I am livid with this establishment. I have been trying to cancel my membership since last month and I woke up to an additional charge this morning. I have talked to between 6-10 individuals and yet have spoken to the appropriate person but once.

It should not be this difficult to cancel a membership. I specifically switched to Blink from Planet a few months ago. I had no issues when canceling planet and switched to y’all because I thought it made sense because my studio is close by and I wanted to try you all out.

My circumstances changed last month and I had to move back home. If I’d known what I know now I would have stayed with planet.

When I signed with y’all I was told it would be month to month and clearly that was a complete lie. I went with the blue plan which now in retrospect I was mislead to think if I needed to leave I would have no issues. I have not been to this gym in three months and I am still getting charged after it was supposedly cancelled.

I am reporting you all to the better business bureau for bad business and poor customer service. This is a horrible establishment and makes me wonder if this is across the board matter. I do not recommended Blink to anyone.

Love this Blink; staffing is so amazing, attentive, and is very clean. It so spacious but is hard to get a machine sometimes due to members just seating there texting and when you ask them is because you saw them on that machine for like 20 minutes. I think members need to be considerate too others

This is a great and clean gym, but I do wish they had the same hours on weekends. Some parents can only get a work out in during those early hours. Even opening at 6 would be an improvement.

I have been going to this gym for many years. The gym is always clean and the staff is really sweet! Aysha, in particular, receives me with such a warm welcome smile every time I come in ( and this can be felt from underneath her mask) and no matter what my question, concern or request I have, she always finds a way to accommodate me. While I was in the locker room praising her for being such a gracious blink staff member, another person chimed in and didn’t hold back on praising Aysha as well. Thank you for all that you do to keep the gym running and operating in such smooth way.

This is the best Blink in Brooklyn, in my humble opinion. It’s 3 floors and has a wide variety of cardio and weight machines; even at its most crowded, I’ve never had to truly ‘wait’ for a machine like I have at other Blinks. Staff is great. It is also very clean.

Came here for a quick gym session since I was visiting my gf (I'm normally at the Jersey facility). The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The gym itself was clean and bright. The main floor is all cardio machines, and downstairs has some machines for the chest, back, and legs. The top floor consists of free weights, cables, and benches. All in all, it's a very nice gym and convenient.

Ok, where do I begin? I went there on a Friday with my annoying boyfriend. I immediately noticed the clean facility and helpful front desk. There are 3 floors but I only did my workout on the 1 (cardio and other machines) and the 3 (dumbells and weights). The bathroom and locker were equally clean, albeit small in size. I asked the guy working in the front to help me three times and did so happily.
Everyone was doing their own stuff - so no creepy or uncomfortable vibes at all! I would recommend this gym 👍

For a "cheap" gym I've been impressed. Yes, it can be very crowded at peak times especially on weights, but they recently reconfigured upstairs weights/cardio machine layout, providing more room. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The gym is kept clean, and machines in good order (haven't used showers, but locker rooms fine). This location participated in the Blink nationwide Women In the Weight room (March) series which I thought was excellent - hope for more classes from time to time as it was helpful for checking form, learning a new routine, and getting motivation. For what you pay, good value.

This is a gym that combines the experiences of factory farming and waiting in the line at an amusement park. At most hours of the day, it's butts to nuts inside in an incredibly unmotivating environment. Compared to other gyms, the equipment is low-quality and not well maintained.

It gains a star for the price.

After almost six month coming to this Blink location I decide to cancel my membership. When I spoke with one of the guys at the front desk he explained to me that I have to pay a fee cancellation of $6 then when we go in to the blink system they said that have to pay a $60 plus as a buyout. I told the guy that no body explained that to me before I it said that is important to reas the small letters in the contract we singed at the beginning of the contract. It was a surprise for me that kind of answer but anyways I just want to let you know guys about this extra fee names buyout that they never will tell you about it.

The gym scams the customers so bad. I got a membership from blink about 5 months ago and I stopped going for a few months. I recently went to the gym to cancel my membership, they charged me extra for the cancelation. Meanwhile I paid for 3 months without stepping a foot in the gym, plus on top of that I paid an annual fee of 50+ dollars.

PS I would never recommend blink fitness gym to anyone, join a gym that’s open about billing and cancelation.

Okay gym, but they get you with the cancellation process. You have roughly a one-month period to cancel after the 12 year mark before you are charged another $60 annual fee. No warning when you sign up or at the end of the 12 month period. Had to pay $100 to get out of a "no cancellation fee" membership. I don't recommend.

This gym is garbage. It's extremely crowded no matter what time of day you are there and there is always a wait for the squat rack and bench. Save yourself the money and go somewhere else.

The gym is nice but they screw you over on payment. Every time you try to cancel they'll just add more fees, not let you out of contract, etc. I have been trying to cancel for 3+ months and have paid >$100 since I supposedly "cancelled" my account... Never getting a BLINK membership again!

Place is clean and wasn't as crowded. Though I went 3 Pm and it rained today. This one has two power racks. Outside looks like a bank. There is wide grip chest hammer strength plate loaded machine and iso hammer strength rows for back. It does feel like maze when going downstairs for lockers as there is small space with equipment to use. First and second floor has the typical blink equipment. Great spot I'll be back.

Today when I was on training someone stole $100 from my backpack from locker. It happened to me in 833 flatbush ave location but this is not the first time. In January exactly the same incident was in park slope location, the thief stole $75, both locations' management said that I'm not the first person with the same problem and they looked like they really don't care about it. I mean, I don't care about money, I care about my personal space and privacy which blink cannot provide.

I love this location it’s kept very clean. Front desk is usually pretty welcoming in my experience. For the few times that I’ve been there I noticed the employees wiping down the machines. Along with the people who come to the gym they are very hygienic when it comes to cleaning their machines after they use it. The women’s locker room and bathroom is kept clean and stocked at all times. The only thing I think that that location needs is a bit more variety on the first floor when it comes to cardio machines. I believe that they should put one or two stair masters on the first floor along with one or two stationary bikes. Other than that this location is pretty cool and very cozy.

I am not sure what the complaints were about really.....this is a gym that charges you less than $30/month, opens at 5am weekdays and 7am weekends. Staff is friendly, helpful and respectful, the gym is clean and well ventilated.

Nice facilty, BUT....I'm an independent personal trainer and I've been around there for six months, getting to know everyone and ask about their progress. I can remember around 200 faces that have been misled on their programs and routines. NO ONE and I MEAN NO ONE ever got the slightest results, no muscle gain no fitness progress. They only pat you in the back making you feel better just because you entered the gym. A kindergarten for big boys and girls. Try to stay away because the environment is VERY LAZY and you're not gonna get any results. You can do better on your couch with a random routine on you tube. BIG NO.

Please, Blink, as one out of dozens who have commented on the matter, PLEASE do right by your customers and add more lifting platforms. No matter the time of day, 5AM, 2PM, 10PM, there is always a wait....while scores of cardio equipment just taking up space right next to it goes unused. People want to weightlift. It’s just what they want to do. We’d really appreciate it if you’d address the needs of members.
