My personal trainer is Stephanie S. I personally think she sets the gold standard for personal training. I have worked with her for over two years now and the results speak for themselves. She is absolutely diligent in her work and totally focused on the goals we have set. Her professionalism and knowledge combines with an obvious commitment to her clients. This past year, following total knee replacement surgery, she was the key person in my recovery. Her sensitivity to my needs and the gradual increase in mobility and flexibility helped make the recovery a very satisfying experience. Aside from her training skills and truly felt commitment to her clients, I find Stephanie to be a sterling human being. She is kind and sensitive and very open about her self. There is a genuine relationship and a true appreciation on her part for the efforts I put it and the gains I have made.
It's exciting to be almost 70 and to have the level of energy and well being that comes from being (reasonably) fit. I am extremely grateful to have her as a trainer as well as a friend.

Re BOOM trainer Stephanie S
I have been a member of BOOM for more than 10 years and have been a member or other gyms going back to the late 1980s, during which time I have had the opportunity to work with several different trainers.
Every once in a while one gets to work with somebody who is truly exceptional. Trainer Stephanie S @ BOOM's 3rd Ave location is such a person.
What makes Stephanie exceptional? First of all, Stephanie knows her craft whether that be working with machines, free weights, spin bicycles, running or teaching group classes. Second, she communicates what she knows in language that the client can understand, regardless of his/her level of experience. Third, Stephanie encourages clients to ask questions. When we do, she is patient, focused and clear in her responses. Fourth, she does not have a one size fits all workout or program; rather, she tailors the program and daily workout to the experience level and challenges of the client. Fifth, she is always responsible about keeping appointments. Sixth, she is respectful at all times. Finally, Stephanie has that extra intangible that comes from loving ones work and enjoying working with people.
I am ever so grateful to have the opportunity to learn from Stephanie. She is truly a delight to work with.

While convenience to Boom on Third Avenue was the original reason for my joining, the addition of Stepanie S. is the reason I am still there. Her spinning class is the best I have encountered in all the many years I have been spinning. Quite frankly if she were to move to another club I would be one of the first to follow. Cogratulations on having the best in class trainer.

Club is no frills but serves the purpose. The best part Is Stephanie S.'s spin classes. I make every one I can. She's tough in a good way.

Best personal trainer I ever had. She makes you work hard but keeps you motivated. I been working out with Stephanie S for almost two years which is amazing. I use to hate going to the gym but with steph I look forward to it.

I got a groupon for the first 45 days and I was very pleased with the gym so I signed up a year agreement. I love their Monday night insanity class with Sarah and Friday night class with Joe. Hardest and best workouts ever! Olga is my favorite yoga instructor. Her classes save me from my busy work and school routine! Great stress reliever! Aya and Alex are great yoga instructors too but Olga has helped me progress through various yoga poses. You can't beat the price. Other gyms in the UES charge at least double. There is a 5-10 minute wait for a treadmill during peak hours but weather is getting better so I rather run outside. Fitness and yoga classes alone are worth the membership!

The gym is okay. Nothing special about it. Most machines are in good condition. When I signed up they had a steam room up and running. However, in a short period of time after, it was "closed for renovation". Every time I asked when it would be fixed, they kept telling me "maybe next month". The room was out for over 18 months!!! Secondly, their billing is handled by a lousy firm: ABC Financial Services. These guys had me send a letter to them via certified mail in order to cancel services. And, cancellation took effect only 30 days after they received my notice, meaning I was responsible for payments within the 30 days. Ridiculous! Can you make it more difficult and customer-unfriendly please? Don't sign up with them unless you're willing to deal with C- grade customer service.

I've been a member of this gym for almost a year. I really like it! I think it's one of the hidden gems of New York City. It's located only 3 blocks from my apartment. They're open 24 hours during the week. And that really works for me because I get these bouts of insomnia, and Boom offers me a place to go at 2am to try to tire my mind and body enough to go to sleep. I recently started a boxing program with their personal trainer Omar. He's awesome! They have a heavy bag and a speed bag in the lower level, but I've never had the guts to try it out. I felt like an idiot just going in there and punching this bag. But I know there is lots of benefits to boxing and it's something that I've always wanted to at least try. So I took the plunge and signed up for some personal boxing lessons. Best decision I've ever made! It's great cardio and I feel stronger and stronger with each punch. It's given me a great way to release my stress and tension from a very demanding job. I'd recommend anyone to give Boom a try - especially the heavy bag! You won't complain about not being able to sleep ever again!

If I could give it less than a star I would.. The manager isn't nice, the bikes are crap, and the average wait for a treadmill is 10 minutes.. You actually get kicked off after 30 minutes. A waste of space

I only discovered this gym when I went to my girlfriend's apartment for dinner one night. I never walk down Third Ave so I've been missing out all this time! Well, no more. I made my girlfriend go with me for a tour of the gym and we BOTH ended up signing up. Let me tell you why this gym is great. First of all - obviously the price is right. I pay $39.99 a month to work out in a gym on the Upper East Side. That alone is a miracle. And I NEVER feel like I'm a cheap gym. The facility is great. It's clean, there's complimentary towel service, as well as full amenities in the locker room. I find the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful at all times. I'm greeted every time I walk through those doors and I go so often that most of the staff even know me by my first name. They have a great selection of circuit machines and free weights. The gym can be kind of crowded during peak hours, but that's fine for me. I just choose not to go during those times. The gym is open 24 hours during the week and I just choose to go a little later in the evening. Problem solved. But Boom has really been extra great for my girlfriend. She received a free personal training session when signing up and loved the trainer so much that she ended up buying a package with him. She's been really consistent and dedicated and has started to become a gym rat like me! She also adores the yoga classes and Zumba workouts! I love that this is a place where my girlfriend and I can both come, workout, and share another aspect of our lives together. No, this gym isn't perfect all the time. But it's wonderful for us. It offers us everything we need and want in a gym. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, relaxed, friendly place to workout. You won't be sorry you gave it a chance.

After I had my ID stolen, and cancelled my credit cards, I tried cover my monthly reoccuring charges to my new card. Boom charged the cancelled card. They hit me with a $60 fee. I explained what happened and they couldn't care any less.
The cheap monthly price is offset by the highest personal training rates in NYC.
Beware!
I brought my business elsewhere.

This gym is terrible; avoid it at ALL costs. You can never get on a machine and the managers will lie to you about extra fees and charges. Also, it is impossible to cancel your membership - their financial services company "ABC" is brutal. This was the worst experience for me and two of my friends who joined.

For the price you pay it's a good gym. It gets a bit packed in the evening so sometimes you end up having to a wait a bit in the weight room. They have all the equipment I need including a nice squat rack although there's only one of those. I like that they're open 24/7 throughout the week day so that I can go either really early or late if I need to.
