I've been loving my experience at BreakThru and have already seen great results in the first few months. The community Coach Curtis has built there is really fantastic. As someone who was very anxious about walking into a brand new sport, I felt comfortable there almost immediately. I’ve been going to the gym for over a year and it is great. The workout program is dynamic and changes so it avoids the mundane trap other programs fall into. There are classes offered that are more discussion based to improved other aspects of your life, not just helping you be physically healthy. There are a range of people who attend who have different athletic abilities, but everybody breaks a sweat!

Break Thru has been a game changer. The combination of the highly experienced coach (Curtis is the real deal) and a great group of regulars, all of whom are supportive and driven, makes this gym stand out.
I started six months ago, wanting to be stronger and more fit. I have gotten way more than I thought I would! Significant strength gain, physical balance, better sleep, actual boxing/fighting skills, humility. This gym strengthens through failure - you can’t get better at things unless you are brave enough to try what you are unable to do.
As an aside, even though I wasn’t looking to lose weight, I have been surprised at how much my body has changed. I’m not mad.

Not only is Breakthru Boxing a great way to get into shape, but also a great environment to learn and grow as a team. The sense of community makes you want to do your best every session, with a team of like minded people cheering you on. It’s a place for people from all walks of life. Not only do we learn important boxing skills, we also focus on functional movement that makes us strong and well rounded. Coach Curtis also makes a point to teach the science of why we do what we do and how it is helpful.
I first searched for a gym to help prepare me for some long hiking trips at the end of the summer. Breakthru also trains for Spartan Races. Not only do I feel I am making great strides towards my goal, but I feel and look good doing it!
I’ve been coming to Breakthru for about 3 months and I've felt significant improvement in my strength and as a pleasant bonus, my mental health. I’d recommend Breakthru Boxing to any and all skill levels as Coach Curtis's classes are adaptive and focus on getting you in your best shape no matter what that looks like.

Breakthrough Boxing is all about genuine athletic development. Coach Curtis does an amazing job taking your fitness goals and giving you the road map to make them a reality. Coach Curtis is a really good guy. Creates an amazing atmosphere within his gym. Even though he may have up to 20 other people in the gym he’ll still take some time to work hands on with you. I think this place will surprise you! Unique is an understatement. Having consistent access to this level of expertise is worth more than what you’ll be paying. Rare to encounter coaches that excel in teaching technique who can also easily demonstrate skills given their own fitness level. Individualized feedback gets woven into group classes which are creative and varied, and help identify areas of weakness. Excellent workout for those focused on fat-loss and building overall strength and fitness. I started in April and am already feeling and seeing a difference.

I’ve been working out at Breakthru Boxing for about 18 months and can’t express enough how positive this experience has been for me. First and foremost, Coach Curtis is a teacher. He will teach you proper form, footwork, and general boxing technique in an environment that is fun and team based. But classes are not limited to boxing technique. Classes also include strength training, balance work, team and partner drills and a variety of activities that are different and challenging. I have gotten stronger, healthier, have better balance and have made so many new friends over the past 18 months. There are classes throughout the day, 6 days per week and every one is run by Coach Curtis. Getting in shape with your friends and having fun doing it is a pretty unusual thing. We “train different” at Breakthru. Check it out.

If you're looking for the place to bring your fitness, both mental and physical, to the next level this is the place. Curtis and the entire breakthru boxing team will make you feel at home / part of the team quickly. The social element is really baked into the classes and will help motivate you further than before. I really love going here - my skill level (at boxing) and general athleticism have sky rocketed faster than any other gym I've been to, and I've only been going a few months, a few times a week. Curtis is a great coach and designs classes in a way to prevent muscle and mental burnout, every class I attend I'm encouraged to attend another. It's a team atmosphere where you will actually make friends, and I've enjoyed becoming part of the team. I get to laugh and joke while getting a great technical workout-its awesome. Highly recommend coming down for a free class, you'll be hooked.

I found Breakthru by a random google search one day after realizing I had let my 46 year old self go. I was at my highest weight ever and my prescription med list was getting absurd as the middle age, overweight, stressed-from-work maladies began to stack up. After realizing how much I’d let myself go and realizing that I needed a major change, I decided to take a shot and emailed Curtis. Best decision I’ve made in a long time.
I’ve been training at Breakthru for 5 months…I’ve dropped 55 pounds so far and gained strength and endurance. More importantly, I’ve met a group of excellent people who are fun to work out with and motivate each other through challenging workouts.
Curtis has created an incredibly welcoming environment at the gym; there’s no judgment and everyone wants to help each other out. Breakthru welcomes everyone and works with all ages, shapes, sizes, levels of athleticism, you name it. From former couch potatoes to former college athletes, everyone gets better. The workouts are fast paced, smartly designed, efficient, challenging, and rewarding… they are designed for maximum impact no matter if your goals are weigh loss, strength, movement, or just overall health.
I genuinely cannot recommend anything more highly than Breakthru.

Coach Curtis and his BreakThru program have truly changed my life. In 2020, I was overwhelmed, exhausted and struggling with being overweight. I couldn't lose anything in spite of distance running, working out, tracking calories etc. I hit a breaking point and called Coach Curtis (whom I saw through FB ads). I had a little money set aside and decided to use it to train with him and see if I could address my weight. There were many hard times, many early mornings, a lot of hard work, tears, mistakes and encouragement, a reminder of my goals, accountability, friendship, and a coach who was able to get to the ROOT CAUSE of why I wasn't successful on my own.
One year later, I've lost a total of 40 lbs, I've gained significant physical strength and athletic skills, and I've become a fitness trainer. I'm also doing things in my life I would NEVER have considered 12 months ago - like running for Mayor of Albany, NY. I would **never** have had the personal confidence to follow this dream of mine if, a year ago, I had not reached out to Coach Curtis for help. I thought I just wanted to lose weight. Turns out...? I started coming here around 6 months ago just for something to do, but after going for a while I became really interested in boxing and wanting to train for a fight. Coach Curtis is one of the best instructors I’ve ever had and teaches me a lot about myself and different skills that I would’ve never been able to learn by myself. I joined Breakthru with the goal to run one spartan race this summer and to get back into shape after a major surgery. I didn't want a planet fitness, I wanted a gym that trained for a goal. Not only did I get a version of that, but I gained so much more. Things that were far more meaningful than running a race.
I've meet a wonderful group of people from all walks of life; each with different goals, backstories, and life experiences. Each one of us have come together to grow, learn off and support each other. These are all people I never would have interacted with otherwise. Even when I am unable to be at a race myself I find my self invested in those I train with and always inspired by what they accomplish.
Beyond the people are the workouts themselves. Coach Curtis does a wonderful job making workouts unique, challenging, and fun. It keeps you coming back for more, and also gives you a wonderful visual to see just how far you have come. Everything is so well rounded and you will most likely find yourself working on smaller motor skills you didn't realize you needed nd often ignored.
Another great thing with the gym is you can attend any class. So its flexible to a busy work life and exposes you to more types of athletics; such as yoga and boxing. His creative approach also gives us the tools so we can take these workouts home and get something productive in with out spending a lot of money of equipment.
This gym has become more than that, but a small family who are all giving their all. training different and making themselves uncomfortable to grow. Now, here I am two Spartan 5ks (one Sprint and one Stadion) and a 10k later, with two more on the docket for the year, knowing I have found not only a new passion but a team of people that are endlessly supportive.

I was searching for a particular gym/fitness center atmosphere when I came across BreakThru Boxing. I have to say they have exceeded my expectations. I went to BreakThru Boxing just for a free class, from another “similar” type of gym.. I wanted something different but with some of the same components/classes. The gym I came from was absolutely fine but I was missing something.. WELL I FOUND IT! It was missing COACH CURTIS! He is absolutely phenomenal and it’s because he genuinely cares about every single human that walks through his doors.. and I got this from ONE FREE SESSION. Let me tell you something, some of the equipment maybe the same but it is NOTHING like where I came from and nothing that’s out there. The way coach Curtis chooses to add education into his classes and takes his time trying to mold you is everything. Not to mention the energy is out of this world, I love it! BreakThru has made a new family member of me!

I found Coach Curtis at a health and fitness expo held at siena college a few years ago. I really wanted to learn how to climb a rope for a Spartan race and he offered to teach me. My friend Lynn and I have been training with him ever since on Saturday’s. What a great guy! He offers such fun workouts and keeps us entertained while we do them. He is very knowledgeable in all areas of fitness, especially boxing and offers training for races like the Spartan, which is something you can’t find anyplace else! I always look forward to our Saturday sessions!

I came to BreakThru Boxing 6 months ago, eager to continue my boxing practice and learn from a new coach. What I found was a community of people who are kind, supportive, and all there with the goal of lifelong learning and self-improvement. Coach Curtis is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of movement, but especially martial arts. I have strengthened so many boxing and kickboxing skills, and have learned even more new ones, since I’ve started training with him. With his guidance and support, I can see myself getting better, stronger, and more confident in my practice with every class. His pedagogy is effective, and as long as you keep showing up for yourself it sets you up for guaranteed success no matter what your personal goals are at the gym. To help each other become better and stronger. The coaches at BreakThru aren't like trainers at one of those franchise gyms. They actually want to know who you are, why you're there, and how they can help you achieve your goals. The classes are fun, yet still challenging for all skill levels. If you're looking for a cookie cutter gym where you can sit at a machine, watch TV, and take it easy for 20-30 mins a week... This is not the place for you! It's been a few years since I've worked out and was admittedly a little nervous to do HIIT style workouts, but Curtis at Breakthru made me feel very welcome and took time to build a personal connection with me and really understand my goals. My first boxing HIIT workout was fantastic. It was tough but I've never felt better. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is not intimidating at all. I would highly recommend it to anyone that's tired of just pacing around the gym and not feeling exhilarated or excited to workout.

I came to BreakThrough boxing and fitness about 8 months ago, with my mom, and it has honestly changed mine and hers life. Coach Curtis and Coach Tara are amazing at creating a comfortable place for people to grow and get better. Each workout incorporates different types of movements and styles that always have me trying different things!!! I cannot be more appreciative to have Breakthrough as a safe space for me.

I started working with Breakthru Boxing at the end of February of this year. This a different experience compared to the large franchise/chain gyms. Curtis and his team of coaches will actually take time and walk you through drills step by step and will talk you through the benefit of each move compared to the other gyms where you find yourself winging it and hope it works. You can book individual sessions or join a plethora of different classes. The theme is the same for each class: we all work together as a team and encourage one another while training VERY different! If you want to be serious about getting in shape- check out Breakthru
Take it from someone who has tried multiple gyms just to find myself going only a few times a month. The environment and intimate classes make it feel like you are almost getting a one on one session and you actually enjoy going. I go almost everyday because I actually ENJOY going to a gym now. You won’t regret it.

I’ve been training with Coach Curtis and BreakThru boxing for the last 10 months and my life has changed in many ways since, not just my weight! The programs that are available are unlike any that you can find in the 518, the workouts are never the same and always push you to get better each day. Also the other members of the gym were very welcoming and supportive since day 1!
I was looking for a program to take me to the next level and BreakThru got me there! I would absolutely recommend joining if you want to make a positive change in your life!!

I specifically joined Breakthru Boxing six months ago for their Spartan training classes. I went in expecting obstacle course training and found so much more. Not only do they provide a multitude of classes to cater to all types of fitness (you won’t find just boxing here) I found a fitness family that is extremely well rounded and uses a holistic approach to health - incorporating both the physical and mental attributes of health while cultivating a supportive environment that helps everyone reach their goals. This gym isn’t for everyone, but if you’re serious about becoming a better version of yourself and supporting others while you do it - then this gym is for you.
