We have been attending British Swim School for a year, and unfortunately, I’m very disappointed. One of the biggest issues is the inconsistency in how much time each child gets in class. While all parents are paying the same, some students receive much more individual attention than others. My granddaughter consistently ends up with less time, which is unfair.

What makes this even more frustrating is that she is capable of swimming across a pool unassisted, yet she has not progressed to the next level. Despite her ability, she’s been held back without clear communication or recognition of her skills. After a full year of commitment, the lack of progress and transparency has been discouraging.

I expected a structured program that would focus on each child’s development equally, but that hasn’t been our experience. Sadly, this has left us very disappointed.

Jayden specifically is a rockstar, teaching amongst a great crew. He has great control, pace, energy and enthusiasm. Our daughter went from screaming terrified for 27 minutes the first day of swim as a tadpole, to a little girl excited to go to class every week and learn new things. Thank you British Swim School.

We have been at BSS for almost 2 years. The instructors are great, sometimes can be a little strict with the toddlers but for good reason. We have never had an issue with scheduling although we would love if they were open on Fridays. My only complaint about the new pool is Poughkeepsie is the changing area. The changing area is gender neutral, no male and female specific changing area. Also, there is only one stall that has a changing table so when you have a class of babies and toddlers changing is a little challenging.

The professionalisms, care, and thoughtfulness that go into each program is impressive. The staff is not only friendly and courageous but takes the time to know each student individually, working on their skills and always making learning a fun experience, especially when students are uncomfortable doing a task and/or have fears of water. This is the place to learn how to swim! Especially for people who have fear of water. I almost drowned when I was 13 and since then stayed away from pools etc. I finally got the courage to learn how to swim and British Swim school was the best decision I could make! I went from not knowing how to float to swimming across the pool! I now love the water and look forward to my classes etc. The instructors are very patient, understanding, and experienced.
Other staff on the team are very responsive and accommodating . I would give this place ten stars! Thank

Everyone is kind and friendly. I have a 4 yr old daughter and 6 yr old son in the same class. My son is 6 years old with Autism. Instructors are very supportive. Most of all, staff are attentive and my kids are safe with them.

We have been going to the British swim school since December 2024 and my daughter absolutly loves it the instructors are all very sweet and really care about their students and really encourage them into being great swimmers. I highly recommend them as we have tried other schools and here she has moved up from beginner to the next level in 5 weeks instead of being stuck due to age great school and also very very clean cant speak any higher of them

As my child moves up in classes I quickly see the degree of complexity in their lessons increase. Mine seems to be easily adapting to the new challenges, leading me to believe they were well taught in the previous class. I have been impressed with British Swim School and have since started using the app to schedule make up lessons, which proves significantly easier than doing it from the computer.

We have been bringing our 2 year old daughter to BSS since December 2023, with 0 experience in swimming aside from.being in a pool and one of her parents holding her.

In the quick 3 months we've been with BSS, our daughter has learned several life saving techniques and is still working on more each week while reinforcing what she has already learned.

We gave our daughter practice her "blast off" during bath time each night by laying in the tub and having her ears submerged. She is more than enthusiastic to do her blast offs and sings the tune as she lays down.

She is so in love with BSS she asks to go to "the pool" every day and wants to play with "Teacher XYZ" whomever she is thinking about in the moment.

We strongly suggest this program to anyone who is looking to get their little ones into a swim program, you will not be disappointed at all!

My 4 yr old granddaughter took lessons from May through September and still cannot swim. The amount of time in the water for a 30 minute lesson was about 10 minutes. There were 4 children in the class. When I cancelled her lesson she missed the last class due to illness and they would not allow a make up or refund my money. I feel this was very expensive, she didn’t learn anything she didn’t already know. Don’t waste your money.

I Highly recommend this swim school. My 4 year old son is challenged every session and is gradually learning all the swimming techniques from the great instructors that they have. He looks forward to swimming class every week.

Instructor is patient, calm, and creates a safe space for my son to gain his confidence in the water while still giving him a level of independence that allows him to learn and retain what he’s learned. Firm when it comes to staying safe both in the water and outside of the water around the pool, yet still patient and calm when they need to redirect my 5 year old. My som absolutely adores swim more than any other after school activity and looks forward to it every week. Very grateful for the staff for creating that kind of environment for him! I’ve been waiting to get him into swim lessons for the past two years when he was cleared by his ENT for underwater submersion, but the times and classes my son needed were always booked! Happy to say it was well worth the wait!

I am not a client of Britsh swim school. However, I booked a room at the hotel their services are provided in. My son was celebrating his 8th birthday and using the pool at the same time class was in session (which is absolutely ok with the hotel). One leader in a red shirt ( standing outside of the pool) told us we would be able to use a quarter of the pool, which they roped off, and we had no problem sharing. In the process of us sharing the pool, this same woman and another in a blue shirt (standing outside of the pool) were very mean and nasty to my children. They came up to my child and his friend on multiple occasionstelling them not to jump in (our side) because they were splashing. (Which diving is not allowed but jumping in is absolutely ok) They stared and gave mean looks while whispering back and forth to each other. They then proceeded to tell the manager of the hotel multiple time on my children for jumping in while my son tried to enjoy his 8th birthday. The manager of the hotel was very understanding and tried to convince me to let the kids stay and enjoy the pool. However, we decided to leave early to avoid mistreatment. I am not sure how you can instruct kids and be so mean and inconsiderate of other kids who paid just like them to use a shared space. If I thought of giving my kids swim lessons, these ladies showed this is the last place I should turn.

Putting my daughter in this program has proven to be a great choice. She started at 3.5 years old in the Minnow class and has since moved to the Turtle 1 class. She took both classes with instructor Cliff J. & I just have to commend him on his patience with all of the student as well as the encouragement that he provides the kids.
If you’re on the fence about starting this program I can’t tell you enough that it is a great decision, you’ll be glad you enrolled!

Both my daughters 8 and 4 years old love going to BSS. They both like learning new things and becoming better swimmers. They get recognize at our community pool too. I like the different levels and the importance of safety and survival. This school is not a 6 week course. Your child swims weekly/monthly till you say stop. All the staff is extremely friendly and the pool/areas are kept very clean. Definitely give BSS a try. We love it!

We love swim lessons! We signed our daughter up for the wait list when she was 6 months old and we’re able to get her started quickly in lessons. We decided to start young so that safe practices in the water, which is what all of our lessons focus on, become a muscle memory. BSS is an amazing swimming program. My kids have been in the program since July 2021 and my girls (2yrs old & 4yrs old) are doing so well. The teachers are the best. They are extremely patience with their students but also challenge them to get better. They are very fun. My kids enjoy going every week. They also do survival weeks which focuses on water safety and survival skills. Administrative staff are also amazing! They are very respectful of your schedule and work well with sudden changes. I recommend this program to anyone that mentions to me kids or swimming. It is such a great program that I started to take Adult swimming classes. They bring that same great quality to the adults as well. Recommend BSS to anyone who wants to learn how to swim, strengthen their skills, need exercise or just want to have fun!
