Training with Coach Mario at Brooklyn Fitness has truly been a game changer. My main focus has been body recomposition, and Mario does such a great job in tailoring a personalized training plan for me. I’ve always struggled to stay consistent with my work schedule, but his energy, positivity, and thoughtful approach to understanding my specific physical and mental limitations have helped me so much. I really appreciate how he takes the time to listen to me and is always open to modifying my session when asked. I truly believe I’ve been able to reach my body composition goals faster through his guidance.

I first started working out with Mario to get in shape for my wedding two years ago, and I’ve continued training with him ever since because the results are real and his support goes far beyond the workouts. He is endlessly patient, gives great advice on proper form (and I’m particular about form), and brings deep knowledge across many different training styles: kickboxing, weight lifting, calisthenics, etc. His flexibility with scheduling has also been a huge help.

Exercise can generally feel like a chore for me (keepin it real, lol), but Mario’s genuine care keeps me motivated and coming back. The whole team at Brooklyn Fitness is fantastic and friendly, and the gym itself is bright, clean, and welcoming. Mario is a real standout, though, and I highly recommend him for anyone looking for a thoughtful trainer who will deliver real results.

I’ve been having an amazing experience at Brooklyn Fitness! From the very beginning, I appreciated the one-hour evaluation, which was a great way to assess my current fitness level and discuss my goals. As a runner, I wanted to focus on strengthening my knees and hips, and the team did an excellent job tailoring a personalized training plan for me.

I was matched with Miles as my personal trainer, and he has been fantastic. He really takes the time to listen to my needs, adjusts the exercises to match my abilities, and is always open to modifying the session as needed. His flexibility with scheduling has also been a huge plus.

What I love most about working with Miles is how great he is at explaining the exercises and helping me with my posture — especially since I’m new to gym workouts. In just 4 weeks of training, I already feel a noticeable difference in my running, and I’m more confident with my overall fitness.

The vibe at Brooklyn Fitness is also amazing. All the trainers are super friendly, and there’s such a welcoming, neighborhood feel to the gym. It's refreshingly unpretentious, and everyone makes you feel right at home.

Great place to book through classpass. Rarely ever gets crowded and they have all the equipment you need to complete a nice workout. Front desk individuals were super nice and flexible with the time slots as well. Bathrooms are unisex and kept incredibly clean.

This is a fantastic gym and it has helped me a lot. I went from knowing very little about lifting, and having very little sense of how to use my body, to being able to do a wide variety of barbell and other lifts safely and in good form, at higher weights than I had ever lifted before. I think their semi-private training option in particular is a very good deal if you can benefit from feedback on certain exercises, as I did (I believe many people, including myself, can't just watch a video and then be able to execute a complicated lift... feedback/teaching/coaching really mattered for me!). Their excellent trainers (I worked with Chris, Radhika, Mario, and Miles there, and all were excellent) kept me motivated and are very knowledgable and friendly. It's not inexpensive, but it's actually a really great deal if you come in as much as you are able and make the most of the feedback you receive.

I’ve been coming to Brooklyn Fitness for 2 years with my husband and consistently did semi private training with Coach Mario. He is hands down the best coach I’ve ever had (and I’ve had quite a few) not only did Mario help me lose over 8lbs in my first month of training to get in shape for my wedding, but he helped me get stronger and leaner in ways I didn’t think possible with my many health conditions. Mario took the time to meet with me learn about my past health conditions and completely rework my programs several times throughout, never making me feel like it was a burden but instead uplifting and encouraging me to keep going even when I didn’t think I could. The facilities are great, the bathrooms are kept spotless, and Coach Mario always keeps a diverse playlist going which was so incredibly valuable to me as a person of color who’s music genres are often not represented in public spaces.

They hide their pricing info from their website so you have to give them your contact info to find out. They insist on having a phone call with you before they will share their pricing. It’s weird.

And then they will regularly text and email you for months with no option to unsubscribe or opt out if you didn’t sign up.

Quick Summary: I highly recommend Brooklyn Fitness, especially to those who have gym anxiety and have no experience whatsoever.

I started looking at opportunities to get active in order to limit my sedentary lifestyle and supplement my 1-2 pilates classes per week. I currently work as a speech-language pathologist in a school setting and realized I spent most of my days sitting. I took a lot of time to research facilities near me as I have very little experience in the gym-world. I also knew I needed as much hand-holding as possible to limit getting hurt. Based on prior experience, I knew that group sessions worked well for me as having an appointment based kept me accountable.

My coaching team (AKA Coach Miles) has been the biggest reason I continue to attend sessions. He's excellent at building rapport with his clients as demonstrated by his conversations and check-ins with myself and other clients. Coach Miles is excellent with scaffolding and custom tailoring my goals and exercises to my needs. Notably, I have asthma and PCOS, which is a highly important part of my exercise routines. Coach Miles confidently walks the line of pushing me to my best while considering my limits/health needs (even when I'm whining). I'm currently moving onto my third month of individual sessions with Coach Miles and will hopefully graduate to semiprivate soon as I continue to become comfortable!

For those who are hesitant to join, my advice would be to go in for a consultation and do a few sessions! Though I absolutely abhor exercising, I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment afterwards. The positive environment also contributes to my continued enrollment as the facility is spacious and clean.

If you are looking for a gym with a family feel, I highly recommend you try Brooklyn Fitness. I tried them out to help me prepare for the Adidas Stockholm Marathon.

I am the kind of person who does not like strength training and need to join a gym to hold myself accountable. I worked with Coach Mario for 3 months. We discussed my goals, likes, dislikes, and made an evolving program. If you are vocal about what you want the coaches will change up your program. For example, I like to keep things interesting by incorporating TRX, sled, and other gym “toys” into my program. Sometimes it takes a few tries, so be patient. It will be worth it when you find the right recipe.

The semi private program works with an app. Your sessions can be fairly independent and you will receive guidance from your coach as needed (form correction, use less or more weight, modifications). Most of the exercises even have a video on the app you can follow. I like this concept because I can drop into the gym at anytime and get started on my workout. I really appreciate the flexibility with respect to scheduling also.

I have to make a mention that Coach Mario has an amazing attitude. His positivity is infectious and encouraging. You will be lucky to work with him.

Thank you for helping me succeed at my marathon journey. Not only am I a finisher, but I finished strong and injury free.

I never got better results!
You get personalized program that meets your goals, trainer is always there to correct your form, which is super important for the results! Basically you get personal trainer for less money and flexible scheduling(you don’t chase trainer and don’t ruin your plan when something comes up).
Open gym access is 24/7 if you want.
They also have body scan machine so you can watch your muscles growing and melting fat 😅
Love the facility too, vending machine, hot showers(shampoo,body wash,conditioner,female supplies, towels). just all you need, nice and clean.

Brooklyn fitness is the best gym in BK. After an assessment, they personalize your workout based off of your needs, the program changes every 30 workouts or so you are constantly being challenged. The trainers are brilliant, they provide tips that make worlds of differences in your routine, not to mention they are badass down to earth and friendly. I know exactly what it's like to feel overtly self-conscious at the thought of being watched, hovered-over and scrutinized by other people while you feel the like the weakest, most infirm piece of disposable meat to the point o0f questioning while it's worth it to even work out. I can't say enough good things about my time so far at this gym. The vibes are good from day one, starting with the assessment. I came in knowing I had specific goals I wanted to work towards, but not knowing how to work at them on my own. The assessment really clarified where I was at and helped me sort out what is really important to me about my fitness, and then the next day we got to work on the training. Every trainer I've worked with has been incredible. Their instructions are always really clear, and they work to make sure that your program is challenging but that you understand what you're doing, and they are very aware of making adjustments when needed to keep you progressing through each workout.

If you're looking for a way to really amp up your training, there's no better place than this. It's like a whole new world compared to traditional gyms.

I ran the NYC Marathon in 2018, and what I discovered I really liked about training was the structure. I had a coach, who I would meet and run with twice a week and give me running homework for when we weren't together.

So when I decided to seek more full body fitness, I wanted to find a place that would offer me a similar structure. The only problem was: Personal training is expensive. But the folks at Brooklyn Health and Performance found a way to make it affordable. They do that by not having 1-on-1 personal training, small group training. So, while there is always a program and a coach waiting for me when I go in, there may also be one or two people working out at the same time as me. I've been going here for a month now, and it's never been a problem. We're all doing different things, and the coaches do a great job of rotating through the room to make sure we're doing everything correctly and are challenging ourselves.

For me, it's perfect. I don't have to think, as the program is written out for me already. I've got coaches there to push me and hold me accountable when I need it. But I also have the freedom to come in whenever I want (be it at 6:30am on a Tuesday or 2:00pm on a Sunday), knowing that there will always be a coach there to help me. The staff are all personable an helpful. I couldn't have picked a better place to go!

Love this gym! As someone who wants to get in shape, but doesn't have hours to half-heartedly elliptical and wander aimlessly around a box gym, doing random exercises, I did a trial membership at BHP. I started with a comprehensive physical assessment, which was pretty enlightening. i learned everything from my body fat and muscle percentages, to how I move. Each warm-up and exercise is incredibly purposeful and well thought out. Workouts are custom and exercises change monthly, so just as you're getting comfortable, it's time to switch it up.
It's only been a few weeks, but I feel better already. Tommy, Ruben, and Elsie are awesome!!! Really encouraging but know when to push you. Vibe is great. Facilities are spacious and clean.

I walked in on a whim, a few months ago, looking for a boot camp style class to do a few times a week. I am so happy I did! The class is a lot of fun, but also extremely challenging. Update Jan 2018- just wanted to give another shout out to BHP as after 2 years I have made so many advances in strength and lean body mass, this team of coaches and trainers really get it- plateau's happen if not tailored to the client and with BHP, I just don't have them. I first heard about Brooklyn Health and Performance through a Groupon deal near me. I brought a bootcamp package to try it out and was instantly hooked. Elsie and Reuben are extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to everyone's well being. Their routines are challenging for everyone who goes and having them motivate you is an added perk. I know the one thing I was worried about was not being able to do the work outs because of my past injuries but Elsie and Reuben were very conscientious and attentive to my concerns. They would modify each workout so that I could keep up with the rhythm of the class and I felt like I was increasing my strength again. I then went to sign up for their semi-private training trial. IT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TRIED. Tommy gives you a full assessment and I found out so much about my body and what I can now do to rehabilitate my body to get back to the sports I enjoy. After 2 weeks I could feel a noticeable change in the range of motion for my shoulders and my hip has been more open. What a great feeling!!! All the staff is extremely accommodating with my ever changing schedule too! This will continue to be my go to place in the neighborhood and I would recommend it for anyone no matter what your fitness level is. This gym just gets it right and their committed to helping you reach your goals.

I've been a member of BHP for two years. I was excited to find a gym focused on personalized programming after disappointing experiences with box gyms. The motivated staff and effective programming have led me on a journey to realize increased strength and mobility. While the programming is individualized, the environment is very community oriented. Walking into the gym to train more often feels like visiting good friends and family and all the camaraderie that comes with challenging oneself with other people!

I have been a member for a few months now and its the best gym experience I have ever had. Great place to work out! First, let's discuss the staff - AMAZING! Smart, dedicated, friendly, and down to earth! The gym is clean and inviting, and they play great music to keep you pumped through your workout!
Next, let's talk about the trainers - bar none - FANTASTIC! I've worked out with many trainers over the years (at all those chain gyms) and I can tell you I've never worked out w/ better trainers. The Head Coach, Tommy, is extremely knowledgeable and down to earth. The owners of this gym are DEDICATED to hiring the best of the best! This place is different than all those other placed popping up all around Brooklyn. They have different memberships - based on what you want to accomplish. They even offer an awesome nutrition program with personal coaching along the way! Training with Tommy and the Coaches at BHP has made such a difference in my life. I walked in with a knee brace that I needed to even do a simple squat or lift without collapsing in pain. After a couple sessions, I haven't needed it all. Each program targets the areas that would otherwise keep me from exercising because of old injuries; almost like physical therapy. If you're looking for a unique and individualized program, BH+P is an excellent option. Tommy is very thorough in his physical assessment. He takes the time to craft a program for you to counteract any physical imbalances or inefficiencies in the way you move. Bill, his brother and operations manager, is very welcoming and accommodating. Overall, the experience is not like your typical gym, aerobics program,etc so be prepared for something a little different. The individual attention and flexibility in scheduling you'll receive here is unmatched.

Awesome place -- you can work out here at any level, and they are totally supportive. I went in with a bad hip injury, and 3 months later, my pain is just about gone. Tommy is amazing -- knows all the right things to do to get my strength up around the torn muscle. I now have all these exercises to do that are just right for me, and that he has gradually made harder as I get better.

Also, I get no bad vibes around being an older woman and fat and fit. It's a place for women, for men, for fat people or thin people. Supportive, challenging, and tailored to what you need.

They really understand and explain the science behind exercise. If however, you want to lose weight, get stronger, and healthier in real measurable and meaningful ways, then Brooklyn Health & Performance is absolutely the right place for you.

Bill & Tommy at Brooklyn Health & Performance create dynamic, interesting and challenging workouts which are directly tailored to my needs. Every person and every body is different so it makes sense that we all shouldn't do the same exercises, right? I don't know why it took me so long to figure that out. As a result of their consultations, training sessions and exercise programs I have lost more weight, gained more strength and become generally much healthier in the last 12 weeks then I did the previous 12 months at a standard gym. I am seeing improvement in areas where I have always had pain and feel fitter and more confident than I have in some time.

On top of amazing training, Brooklyn Health & Performance is super easy to work with, I have never had a problem scheduling a session, or open gym time, and on more than 1 occasion they have gone out of their way to help me get my workout in. If you've ever hired a trainer, you know it's too expensive, both you and the trainer need to be available at the same time and there is no guarantee that the trainer will do what's best for you.

Brooklyn Health and Performance just made hiring a trainer in an ordinary gym obsolete. They cut the cost nearly in half, their semi-private training model means there's always a coach there on my schedule, and with their leading edge program design and physical assessment system, my fitness goals and body's health are taken into account and incorporated into my personalized program. Corrective stretching that like voodoo resets me back to neutral, warm-ups that are specific for my workouts and exercises that act as the glue to finalize the resets.

Do what I did and schedule an assessment, meet the knowledgeable and very friendly people there and actually enjoy exercising and eating properly.

I went to Bill and Tom at Brooklyn Health and Performance with my rugby team to prepare for the season. Tom assessed each one of us and pinpointed our imbalances, at which point he created semi-personal programs based on our imbalances and the unique demands of our positions. The program consisted in a series of 3-4 week progressions to get a solid base of strength and conditioning in the pre-season and build on that base during the season.

I have never felt fitter. My strength, agility, and speed are markedly improved, and my endurance throughout the game--especially in the last grueling minutes--has increased. Better yet, I have been remarkably injury free over the course of a long season; I feel as fresh now at the end as I did in week one. We'll be heading to the playoffs in the spring, and I attribute that in no small part to the excellent work of the trainers at Brooklyn Health and Performance.
