Loved that it was black own and managed. Decided to gym there off the strength of that. I noticed that their equipment was dated but I still went. The straw that broke the camels back was I would use equipment and use things from the other side of the gym and come back the next day and they would be unmoved which showed that they didn’t clean well enough for me. It’s a public gym there is no way that should happen.

Very unprofessional. I've been calling and emailing for weeks to sign my kids up for camp and not one response. I drive down there abs there was a hand written note taped to the gate that they are temporarily closed. No info. Websites and phones do not indicate a closure. I'll pay for camp elsewhere

Do not believe any of the positive reviews. The staff from BKLA are writing the company’s reviews. The staff at BKLA are uncompromising and the swimming instructors barely teach the children how to swim. They provide little effort in teaching the children how to swim so that the parents can pay for another session. I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone. It’s a shame what BKLA is doing to their customers and community!

Never going back. I went to the outdoor pools back in 2022. Lovely totally enjoyed myself the outdoors looked a little ran down but i gave grace the pools were crystal blue and I had hope that the facility would only get better with time. Fast forward to summer 2024 took my mom and my nephew to enjoy the beautiful pools that I remember paid the $65 fee to use the pools /outdoor area- $25 for adults and $15 for children. What I saw today was so disappointing 😞 and disrespectful!. The once pristine and blue pools were now green and merky could not see the bottom of it and the outdoor area was totally unkempt and ran down! It was in an even worse condition than what i saw back in 2022 . I was mortified I should have just taken my family to one of the many free nyc pools. Total waste of my $65 ! We asked to see a manager about the pool and it was the most hullabaloo excuse that I've ever heard as to why the pool was so green and merky. I was left with even more questions than answers. Their pools need servicing by a professional cleaning company. Absolutely sickening! The outdoor area is absolutely deplorable for something that your paying hard earned money for This is not it. And no life vests !!!!!!! It's in need of a major reconstruction and face lift. Bkla please do better and update your facility. Black owned should mean excellence of the highest quality especially in a predominantly black middle class neighborhood. Respect your customers money !

Trash!! Do NOT waste your money Everything is warped. From the indoor track upstairs to the communication.nothing gets cleaned. Dust balls the size of water bugs are clearly visible everywhere . Different staff members say different things. It’s a joke. The place has always been in bad shape since just before Covid but good lord, it needs to get shut down .

I spend good money here for machines to go broken for months before repairs happen. The hours of operation barely work with my schedule. Too many leaks in the ceilings causing the floors to be slippery. The basketball courts used to be opened all day, now it's only certain times of the day and last but least. The boxing ring is non-existent.

I have been a member of this BKLA since it was called the Paerdegat Atheletic Club, then PACPLex, and now BKLA. After all these years this is the worst this gym has ever been under these new owners. There was a time when this gym had so many people and a culture like no other gym. Everyone was a big family; you could leave your belongings and someone would call u or drop it to you. These new owners came in and destroyed the gym and the culture, they seem book smart but have no practical sense. The locker rooms been closed for years, there is mold in the gym (they put a big carpet to hide the water damge to the floor and nowbits just moldy), water leaks, broken equipments etc. EVERYONE COMPLAINS!! It seems like if you have a complaint they take it as an insult. The gym opens at 8 am to 9 pm on weekdays. At that time people are on their way to work and on the weekends when working people want to sleep in and recover we can even make it to the gym because they closes at 4 pm. 8am to 4pm is ridiculous. We have one working bathroom in the gym area that both male and female use and its always dirty. They only focus on the swim program and after school programs. As far as the gym is concerned its like they are deliberately trying to make it fail. They renovated their office space, they focus on cosmetics and waste money doing unnecessary things like painting the exterior while the inside is falling apart. In winter we have to beg for heat, and in the summer we have to beg for the AC. The way they are opperating this gym im convinced they are trying to make it fail deliberately because it seems every policy they make drives people away. Then its always an issue with someone being wrongful billed, over billed of charged a ridiculous fee like $20 or $25 with this abc system they have. For instance you could be walking in the gym to pay your bill as they are opening the doors and u owe a late chage because ABC charges you when the gym is not even open. The staff there always have an attitude and they replace most of the staff so often because people just leave or they get fired so quick. It seems like a bad working environment and they rearly pay these people on time. Right now i am injured and have to join another gym for better access to the pools because the pool is mostly occupied by their swim program and not availablethe days and time i need it. After all these years it saddens me that i have to leave a place i loved so much. Im tired of complaining so now i am writing this review. Im also aware of some customer that says their reviews were deleted after being posted so I will screen shot this just incase. This gym is dirty, the hours or opperation is ridiculous, everything is defective or broken, or will break soon. We basically stopped complaining because we complain to deaf ears. They only time they take your complaints serious is when you post it online. At this point I would NOT Rreccomend this gym to anyone. I hope to return one day but honestly i dont think these people will ever move in a better direction so with that being said its goodbye for now

The gym is amazing with top equipments. It is clean and comfortable for everyone to train and keep fit. They follow the covid-19 protocols.
The staff is nice and I have to acknowledge one particular staff member who goes out to her to help the gym goers. This young lady by the name of Zaire Thompson, is pleasant and makes a big difference.
I will definitely recommend this place.

Do not waste your money on the outdoor pool here!

I decided to take the kids here because we haven’t been to this pool in a few years. They were very expensive so I was baffled to see the conditions of the pools. Only one pool was open and the water was cloudy and green. You couldn’t step foot in water without tissue, hair, or something else touching you. It was the worse experience I’ve ever had.

I left and requested a refund because I was completely dissatisfied. I waited a half hour for someone to speak to another person to approve a refund. The front desk clerks were super supportive and apologetic however they weren’t able to get me my refund and asked me to call them back for a refund.

I’ve never in all my years heard of an establishment such as this not being able to provide a refund of the same system they used to take money for the service.

I would never return or recommend the outdoor pool.

First of all when we entered everyone was mean we asked where the pool was they ignored us the. We went to the pool and it was expensive and we thought it was indoor but it wasn’t then when we got outside all the nice pools were only for rent like a pool with 2 slides and 2 kid pools then the lifeguard were on there phones then they had a umbrella that feel in the pool and almost hit us and the pool was full of bugs-leafs-bandages-and more bugs were everywhere worst experience every at a pool

If I could rate this gym a 0/5, I would. The employees say whatever just to confirm a membership. My associates and I were told they were installing an indoor basketball ball court for months, when they told us it'll be ready in a week we purchased our memberships, the court was not prepared for another month. FINALLY, the court is open and everybody's happy right? Get this, the Open court hours are literally ONE HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES but wait that's not all. As a MEMBER, you need to purchase a day pass for the court EACH visit. In addition to the gym equipment being poor quality and the unleveled floors, it very unlikey ill continue purchasing their membership. Please hold off on purchasing a membership until some improvements take place.

My daughter attended this camp for 7 years of her life and my son attended for 2 years. Since new management has taken over the camp services have gone down hill. If I could give no stars I would. They have become very expensive which I understand is to compensate for the maintenance of the facilities but there's a lack of services. For the past two years there's always a no bus service the last 2 weeks. I paid for 8 weeks of busing and got got 5 weeks. As a working parent am relying on the camp to meet their end of the contract but they don't. The trip are places I take my kids to like the local zoo and not worth the money they require for trips. In the past trips were to Coney Island, Camp Getaway for 2 days. I understand that covid has changed things but that should not impact the quality of service that you are presently advertising. At this point this camp is a glorified babysitter.

Very interesting place seems like everything is shut down in the process of being opened back up which is very understandable. But the biggest turn off is the website shows a all access membership for $29.99 when you tell them this the membership you are looking to sign up with. The literally edited the site and went to summer pricing and upped the prices and revel that they are looking to open up the pools indoor and out door to anyone it’s strictly for summer camps and the membership doesn’t include the pool that’s extra.

They advertise boxing along with spin classes and other classes which are discontinued due to covid. But might be back soon.

This has a lot of potential and wish them the best of luck but honesty is what gets you members this bait and switch won’t get you anywhere.

I have been coming to Bkla swim with my son AJ since he was an infant. I find the swimming program to be a great bonding experience for us and an opportunity for him to learn a lifelong skill that can save or benefit him in the future. Faith and all the other swim instructors are kind, patient and great with kids. My son is a toddler now and still enjoys swimming and asks to go. The songs and activities keep him engaged and free time and leniency in the pool is also well appreciated. My son is confident in water, able to climb out the pool and can jump in alone. Seeing his progress from when he was a baby reminds me that I am doing the right thing. During the pandemic, gyms were closed and we missed it. Since we have returned, we have noticed new protocols in place to maintain safety during these trying times. I am grateful to see other parents and children participating. Isolation has kept us away from social interactions that I believe are crucial to a young mind but my son now gets to see other children swimming and interacting with their parents. In a way he is participating in parallel play which is also important for his age. We are grateful for Bkla, their professionalism and how they benefit our family. If you’re considering a swim program, this is the one.

Everyone working there from the desk to the instructors are incredibly nice. The swim lessons were very appropriately social distanced, and the instructors always have time to focus on each students needs. Francis is a very motivational instructor and always wants you to push yourself to be the best. There’s a huge parking lot right outside the main entrance which is very convenient, especially for someone who comes here alone in the evenings. I always feel welcomed here, like family.

My 2 daughters have been going here for the past 4 years for summer camp and after-school purposes. Staff is friendly and great with communication which is always a plus when it comes to changes.
