Would give this place one star if possible. Used dirty bandaids sit out for days by the hottubs and staff gives you attitude when asked about cleaning practices. The pool always has two lanes closed cause management doesnβt know how to staff properly. Gym closes at 7 on weekends but the hottub/ sauna/ steam room/ pool closes at 3. When asked why this isnβt posted more clearly the woman at the desk told me to get here earlier. What a joke of a gym. Focus more on the facilities and staffing
and less on the cheap Halloween decorations

I love the Y but they really need to update especially the pool and hot tub areas. A fresh coat of paint and lettering would do wonders. You pay a lot of money for a membership the least they could do is beautify the place.

My last visit was about thirty seconds. I walked into the locker room, it was so wet it was a slipping hazard. Dirty grimy from the wet, who would want to change in that? My membership was already cancelled so no need to come back. This place is more of a MRSA petri dish than a gym. Absolutely foul environment. No pics for obvious reasons.

I became extremely ill back in December after using the pool. I would not recommend going back there again at least for the pool. It is true what is being said about people going straight from the sauna and steam room into hot tub. I have seen it happen. I have not seen this happen at any other YMCA only at East Greenbush.

Over I would say itβs a really nice place. I have not used your swimming pool yet. I plan to do so at sometime. They have a section near the running track where you can kick and punch a bag and I felt that was really fun to use.

The East Greenbush YMCA has long been famous as the location of the "poop pool" where biologic matter is scooped and chemicals are added. What is amazing is that nothing has changed or improved in 20 years. The small television sets stationed above the treadmills look like they were salvaged from the dump and there is no sound. The bathrooms show corrosion on the pipes and walls, the floors and corners have detritus that gives the feeling one has entered an ancient Egyptian tomb. If this was a Boar's Head sausage plant, then even the staff would certainly expire from Listeria. There is not enough that can be said to paint an accurate picture of the neglect that is the East Greenbush YMCA.

My husband and I love it here. The staff are always very kind and the building is very clean. We love using the pool and I regularly attend yoga and zumba here. Just make sure you check the schedule for the pool hours/open lanes since some lanes may be closed for swim lessons or aquatic workout classes.

Been a member for years but used the pool for the first time yesterday. Due to a leg/back issue I am not able to walk the track any longer so I tried open swim. I checked the schedule and it was all clear. I was unsure how much swimming I could do with my leg so I decided to stay in the shallow end and just go easy. However, 10 minutes in and I was told to move out of the way for a group of women doing pool exercises. I asked the life guard and it turns out that Columbia PT had a session which when I got home was not indicated on the pool schedule. I am done using the pool at this Y.

The talk between us who try to use the sauna after a day of work, turned to the high price for something that is closed early on any excuse. Once a child trewup in pool.... closed sauna & steam etc. The last comment on this by others 10 months ago... I have never heard of needing a life guard for safety of sauna use. If there was a professional response, I might not be considering cancel membership. The young staff have no interest in working Friday / Saturday evenings. I get that, but not my problem to mend. At least when issues arise at the Troy location, I never got the poor customer care, and seeming lack of ownership prevalent at this Y.

This is a great Y. They have lots of different choices. Everything to basketball courts to personal training. Everything seems to be pretty clean. Robyn is constantly cleaning the women's locker room. She pays attention to great detail of the showers. Always polite and always willing to answer questions. The front desk staff are always welcoming and friendly. They start the day off right! Hot tub is always great just wish lifeguards would make people rinse and follow the guidelines. So far the best YMCA !

I wish that they would accept reduction of Medicaid Medicare and diabetics who want to help in the fight to burn sugar I wish $99 would include a ride there and back home from time to time like a Medicaid cab since you to your appointment I wish sometimes an endocrinologist or doctor could write a prescription on a gym membership with a discount would be cheaper than your co-pay for the whole year that way a reduction of $99 can maybe we spent on the Medicaid cab ride there and back home it would be the biggest help in the fight against diabetics and people who wish they can get a ride there versus a year of prescriptions everyone wants you to lose weight burn sugar imagine if you can just write a prescription go to the gym once a week and have access to a ride versus figuring out the world is a different place it would be safer then figuring it out all by yourself

Though pool and hot tub are nice, it is absolutely disgraceful that they charge top dollar for membership while closing those facilities at 3 P.M. on weekends because of staffing issues - stop giving $$ to refugees and the poor while claiming you cannot deliver service to your members commensurate to what they (members) pay! Plus, the locker rooms are filthy.

The front desk attendant, who happened to be bald, treated us with utmost disrespect, especially upon realizing that we were not local and didn't conform to the expected appearance. He rudely demanded that we leave without providing any assistance, while showing a completely different level of helpfulness towards other customers. As a result of this experience, we have firmly decided to never return to the specific location in East Greenbush. If given the opportunity, we would rate it with zero stars.

I understand this is late for most people, but I have a compromised immune system,... well, yesterday was my first day back since March 2020, and it felt so grounding to be back to one of the core places I've had before.

Staff is friendly and facilities are clean. However while using the pool one of the young female lifeguards had a super bad cough and was coughing non-stop almost the entire 30-40 mins I was there. I actually thought she was choking on something at first because she couldnβt stop coughing and was just walking around continuously coughing. No mask, no covering her mouth. I thought this was really odd considering covid and also felt really uncomfortable anytime she walked near where I was swimming. Anytime she walked near me it was basically like she was coughing excessively right at me. I understand places are short staffed but she should really stay home or wear a mask.

I recently called EG Y to add my son to the membership, and when I asked about the youth monthly fee I was informed that it would cost my $64/month for two youth memberships. The Y is not fully operations yet but they are still charging the members full price which is unethical. When I spoke to Sharon about this she reacted in a rude and unprofessional manner. This is completely unacceptable to me. If you are unwilling to listen and help your members then you should not be holding a key position.
I would NOT recommend the EG YMCA to anyone looking to signup for membership. Absolutely ridiculous service. And most of the time their GYM is either closed or occupied for other events.

I have been got to this gym for quite a while, I pay for a family membership. I finally get the opportunity to go back after Covid and the ability to actually get a good workout here has declined. First you have to sign up with limited spots, you can only workout in 45min increments, half of the equipment is currently off limits most of which there is only 1 of. Effectively making a good portion of most routines impossible. I understand precautions are necessary but I think it has gone a little too far here. I have visited other gyms and the precautions there did not hinder my ability to workout which is what you're paying for. Hopefully they will adjust some of these to make it easier for people who want to workout.

Mixed experience. The childcare & camps are FANTASTIC and my kids have gone for almost 10 years. However, my experience as an adult member for fitness has been pretty poor over several years. The pool is often visibly dirty- particles in the water, cloudy, and on some occasions, floating biological matter. When I brought this to staff attention they shrugged and said, "Yeah, it's gross sometimes." The men's locker room was often the same. At other times, the sheer amount of chemicals and smell from the pool caused me to having breathing issues on the track and serious skin irritation. I think the pool is overcrowded and the pumps simply can't handle the volume. At another Y I went to in CT they had pool break times for 1-2 hours during the day to let the filters catch up/ do spot cleaning, which alleviated such problems. Groups on the track walking 3 abreast or stopping to chat can also be an issue, and the staff do absolutely no monitoring.
It can also be VERY difficult to get in touch with admin/billing staff regarding registration and issues.
Overall, camp good, facilities marginal.
