This gym is ridiculous. We now live out of town and come in for the holidays, and we used to be members so they were always flexible with us. Now it’s suddenly $20 for a day pass for one single workout. That’s insane (and more expensive than the day pass at the gym I go to in Scottsdale, AZ). You’d think around the holidays, when tons of people are traveling back, they would offer a reasonable week pass instead of charging such a steep rate. It’s wild how fast they went from being flexible to being a total money grab.

Great gym to go to if you want to use equipment literally held together by electrical tape… benches, lat pulldown equipment, seats, everything. Taped. Bars are rusted, constant, and I mean constant broken equipment. I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt for a few months now, but tonight was the tipping point where I’m cancelling. It’s annoying when you see 100+ people in the facility every hour, all paying roughly $30 a month plus annual “upkeep” charges and the equipment is continuously poor, or literally looks AND feels recycled from other locations meanwhile the other locations continuously receive newly wrapped equipment on the gym floor. Also seems like I’m not the only one feeling this way, based on other reviews.
It’s sad, I used to go to the maple location because I lived over there and now that I’m in this area it’s almost like they know there’s no competition out near French rd so they are the actual Armpit of Catalyst Fitness, and they seem to be ok with it. The showers even, they don’t even have curtains large enough for the showers lol… they’re out of touch. The staff is nice and friendly, and the shake bar is nice but that’s about all this gym has going for it unfortunately.
It’s almost worth the 20 minute drive to go to a “prime location” catalyst where they actually put money back into their facility. If you’re thinking about coming to this location, just don’t. Find another gym or take the ride out to Maple Rd, Elmwood, or Colvin. This place is obviously left behind and the last on their mind unfortunately.

I have been coming to this location for about a year and half now. Desk staff is not very friendly rarely says hello or have a nice day first. water filter constantly says it needs to be changed and/or the fountain is out of service. Equipment is also out of service a lot. The club is not clean at all, the only reason I come there is because it’s close to my house and I do enjoy the equipment they have (when it’s not out of service lol).
I wasn’t informed that I needed to update my payment method (had no email or anything about payment method needing to be updated) and when I finally was they refused for me to come into the gym since my payment was overdue by A WHOLE TWO DAYS. I told them I would be able to update it when I got home since I didn’t have my card on me or I’d bring it in tomorrow since I come in every single day. It’s hard enough to find time to get a workout in, but to be refused from something you’ve paid for for over a year you’d think that they’d have a little understanding!! The guy who I was speaking with was not kind and willing to work with the situation and I will not be returning to that location.
The Express location staff is much better and way more kind!!! I just wish they had the same equipment but I understand why since it is express location :/

WHERE do I start .. been here since it was golds .i have always . LOVEd the vibe of the gym … BUT between water the filter always in the red n Shakes went from 5.75 to 8.75 is crazy … also old equipment n we are the last to get anything .. even tho they know out machines are BROKE n I mean SUPER broke .. they put a bandaid on it n keep movin …always out of paper towels to wipe machines down … the member ship keeps rising and there is no loyalty to its original members ….. in the words of Joey swole … THEY NEED TO DO BETTER

Recently joined the gym. I was disappointed that I did not get a tour of the place or some of the benefits of my membership. I have found the place to be uncleaned and the machines broken. I find it hard to believe it is sanitary to have rips in equipment. It can't be that expensive to fix it. They also need to turn on the AC it is hot and humid in the place. I hope they can do better. This clearly has been a consistent comment but nothing has been done.

I enjoy Jay and Jim’s classes, but most of the receptionists are unhelpful. They didn’t assist with my app issue for several months. Additionally, the shower and sauna rooms are not clean.

Friendly staff but the gym is filthy, bathrooms and locker rooms are absolutely disgusting, more broken stair climbers then functioning ones, same goes for equipment throughout the gym. Don’t mean to bash the gym but hopefully they will see this and improve the product they are offering because right now it’s pretty pathetic.
1 year since my first review and the locker room has yet to see a broom or mop. If I owned this place I’d be ashamed of what a dump the locker rooms have become. Unsanitary, toilet paper all over, clumps of hair, 2 of 3 sinks working. Get your shit together.

Discusting gym at the French rd location. the machines and gym are filthy almost everything is broken. Prices went up from $14.99 to $19.99 and you are getting the same filthy gym. Very disappointed. The showers are awful the water pressure is like taking a shower in a hut outside with no pressure whatsoever! Management should be ashamed for increasing their prices. they are just money hungry and don't give a damn. I would rather quit this gym and pay extra for a gym that is clean and WORTH THE MONEY! DO BETTER AND STOP TRYING TO RIP PEOPLE OFF!! Lower your rates and clean this gym!!! You guys should be closed

These guys should be ashamed asking the French Rd members to pay more. They haven’t updated anything in the gym since pre Covid. Machines are broken for extended periods, gym is rarely cleaned. All the money goes to the Maple and Elmwood locations. I refuse to give them any additional money for this subpar location.
I will be signing up with Planet Fitness before this increase comes due.

Wendy, personal trainer, along with the staff and team at Catalyst French road are friendly, motivating, and encouraging.Wendy, specifically, pushes me, during the group classes. I feel amazing after each session! The sauna and hydro massage are added bonuses :)

This location is shameful. If I could give zero stars I would. On 04/25/23 I initiated pmnt for a 5 session training pkg. I discussed w/the trainer only wanting the minimum pkg because I was unsure I would like the training sessions as I had never worked w/a personal trainer, it was also just for me to get a better understating of using machines and certain exercises. I had absolutely no desire to have a recurring plan/pkg, that was never discussed, I didn't even know that was an option. The only thing I was told about the pkgs was that I could use the sessions at my discretion, meaning that If I wanted to use only one a month or all 5 in the same week I had that choice. When the plan for classes was agreed upon w/myself and the trainer we went to the front counter to sign up and pay, and schedule my first session. A different employee signed me up after briefly speaking to the trainer. At no time do I recall him telling me I was signing up for recurring sessions @ $175/mo. My understanding was I was paying for the 5 class pkg and I could add more after completion if I chose, again, this is what I discussed w/the trainer. Signing anything at this gym is blind, there are no policies available on paper or posted anywhere for a customer to read prior, nor is it available on a digital screen at the counter. After signing up for the training session I never received the policy via email either. When I signed for my credit card it was for the $175 one time payment, and to add that card to my general acct for recurring billing for my monthly membership dues because my previous card on file was no longer active. Never did I knowingly sign for recurring billing for training sessions. I asked numerous times since being charged on 05/25/23(recurring charge) for a refund. I immediately called that day to inquire why I was charged, then asked for the recurring billing to be removed. I had been told by someone claiming to be a manager that the $175 would be refunded. A week passed and no refund so I called again 06/03, still no refund and again called 06/13, every time she/manager would tell me that a refund was supposedly requested but on 06/29 still no refund. I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to get anywhere and was finally issued my refund.
Part of the appeal of signing up for the training sessions was being able to use the personal training room on my own as long it was not interfering with someone else's paid session. The trainer told me this was a thing, that it was ok, every employee at the front counter told me it was ok to use the room for over a month (I always asked before going in every time), and even the trainer I had a free consult with in 2020 at the Wehrle Dr location told me it was one of the perks. But once the issue with the refund happened, the guy who signed me up came into the training room when I was working out alone and told me that after that night I was not going to be able to use the room outside of my scheduled sessions anymore. This was clear retaliation because he messed up and probably was "reprimanded". I was so embarrassed and insulted at the same time I never went back to the French Rd location after that night. The nerve of these people. I asked that my membership be changed to a different location.
Aside from all that drama, the gym is dirty, no enforcement of wiping machines down, ants in the women's locker room, on the platform I saw a dirty paper towel between two treadmills on the floor and when I went back the next day it was still there, same hair in the sinks for days, overflowing garbage cans first thing in the morning (clearly not cleaned from the prior day)the same brown hair scrunchie was on the locker room floor for 4 days. Four days!

I wish I could give this company 0 stars. I sent them an email requesting to cancel my membership in June of this year, after I was laid off, which they would not allow. After I had fulfilled my contracts duration in August, they then renewed it without my consent; and have continued billing me, even after I told them I did not authorize a renewal and to provide me with a refund for the months they have since chaged me. All I got back was that it was "in process", now they have simply stopped responding to me and continued billing me. All of this is over email, which they said is required to cancel a membership.
This business is completely unethical. They don't care about you or your experience; they just want your money for as long as they can get away with it.

Had to replace my bank card in September. While awaiting arrival of my new card catalyst tried to charge me for my membership. Obviously it did not go through my now defunct card. I got a call from Michelle at the French road location about it. I happily did my diligence and visited Meyer, my home location to pay up. I also gave my new card information to the front desk for an update. That was almost three weeks ago.
Today I have another call and an email that my account is overdue again. Evidence from my bank account suggests another attempt was made to charge my old card again. As no funds were taken. I plan to try and iron out the issue again one more time within the next 2-3 days when I have time to swing by in person again. But I realistically cannot keep doing this. Update: I went into my home location again on 10/20 and gave them my new card information a second time. They still had my old card details on file. Front desk staff said it went through. I expect there to be no problems again for November or it will become a problem. I don't want to feel like I'm being harrased when I have done the right thing on my end twice to correct this.

I’m not sure who is responsible for the layout of the equipment here, but why they INSIST on having the bench press back to back so spotters have to perform acrobatics to get behind them is beyond me. See photo.
The staff in the morning is usually great, but there’s literally only 1 person working then. I’ve been a member here for years and if it wasn’t only a few miles from my house I would likely go somewhere else. The roof is leaky and has been as long as I’ve been here. No one fixes it, instead there’s buckets and tarps places on rainy days. Most of the equipment looks and feels like it’s from the mid 90s, and if a piece of equipment is out of order, you can expect to not use it for weeks. The padding on some of the machines is ripped to shreds and take a along time to be replaced.

Just rejoined after a long hiatus from this particular gym. I own a fitness studio, but wanted to take classes instead of teaching them. Spin (cycle) and yoga (Bodyflow) are my favorites. I have all the equipment I need in my studio for lifting, spin, and a calming setting for yoga/meditation, but find it still worth the investment to belong to Catalyst. They have the leg press, hack squat, and lying hamstring curl machines that are awesome enhancements to my Smith and cable machines. Tanning, the starclimber, and sleds are excellent add-ons that made rejoining a no brainier for me.

Dismal customer service, disclosure, and cannot keep a promise. They signed me up knowing the child area was my top priority as a single working dad and part-time MBA student. They signed me up but did not explain that the child area hours were greatly reduced from other business hours (no Saturday hours after noon and no Sunday hours after 1pm or vise versa - weekends were all I had available to go). I paid with a Wellness card and they talked me into taking my personal credit card for the smoothie bar. They ended up charging that card against my approval for my membership. I was promised a refund and was never called back but let it slide. I also said I didn't want to renew my membership at the end because of the child area hours. I was told they would not renew me. But I ended up getting charged after my membership auto renewed. After calling about that and being told they don't do phone cancelations even though thats what I was promised, I was told I'd get a call back for a refund once again and again I never got called back. They did not disclose what they should have at the start (child hours), messed up twice on my billing, gave me contradictory policy info leading to further charges, and never tried to keep a promise or make it right.

Changed their policy right after we signed up at the beginning of the year. Can no longer bring guests (husband/wife) except on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. If that’s something you were interested in doing don’t go here.

Been a long-term member and have used multiple Catalyst locations as I've moved around WNY. I used to be a big fan but they've started to get too corporate and too big for their britches (no pun intended).
They oversold cheap memberships and decided that instead of raising the price on the cheap membership they would penalize people who pay more for unlimited guest passes and only allow guests on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
That clearly wasn't the issue since I'm here on a Monday at 9pm and I'm still waiting for machines.
I wish they would remember who their long-term members are that made them successful and pay for their radio commercials.
The only reason I still go here is because I live really close to it.

I don't understand all the bad reviews about being over crowded, broken machines, and bad staff. What do you expect for $10 a month? I have no issues with this gym. When I signed up, I knew it was going to be overcrowded and lacking the best customer service. You get what you pay for. I actually think they should charge more for what they offer.

Good machines as well as nice and courteous staff but appalling shower cleanliness. Mold and mildew all over the mens shower. Brought this up to the staff and was told that they've voiced the same concerns to management with no response. Was told not to get my hopes up about anything changing. Been coming here for years and for the past few months it's been the same dirty locker room.

The gym is outdated and many machines have "out of order" signs on them, not for a week but for months! Padding missing from some of the weight machines, also for months. Crowded and waiting for machines at peak hours and weekends. Been a member for years and have been paying a $49 annual fee. Found out most others that now sign up pay only $39. A couple of months ago I spoke to someone to reduce that fee and they agreed to. Now that my annual fee is due, Nick told me he doesn't see that change on my account and they will be deducting the $49. When asked about cancelling my. Membership Nick also told me that in order not to be charged the annual fee, I would have had to cancel a month prior to my renewal date. For $100 more a year, the other gyms in the area are a better option... You get what you pay for.

Typically most of the staff is nice, but there is one fellow my daughter feels is disrespectful to her...BUT, today, while running on a treadmill, the power to it just abruptly cut off. The guy next to me was running pretty fast, and his treadmill just shut off too. He jumped off, walked over to the panel box, and reset the breaker. When he returned I asked him if he worked there. He said no, but this has happened to him before, more than once. And I have seen people walk over and mess with the panel box before, and now I know why. This is a safety hazard as you cannot just stop running at the drop of a hat. It’s a safety hazard and a fire hazard. Generally a pretty decent gym, been a member here for awhile, but thought this needed to be said, and publicly...so there is a better chance something is done...stand at the panel box looking toward the door...the treadmill closest to the wall, and the two to the far left are the ones affected.

Only reason I'm not giving 1 star is because of the Kids Club. If it wasn't for the girls there, I would be a member at LA FITNESS. The gym is horribly managed and it just has been getting worse and worse throughout the years. I'm most likely not going to renew my membership and thinking about spending a little extra money and join a gym where people know what they're doing!

I really want to give this place a higher review, but the inconsistency with the higher weighted dumbbells is NOT to be ignored. When you reach 90+ lbs, they have different thicknesses.... Which can be a huge safety concern. This gym is one of the more serious gyms around the Buffalo area without being crossfit (But are those really gyms, or cults?) The facility is very clean, and the staff is also friendly. FIX your ridiculous dumbbell situation, and the review will improve.

I love working out here. It's not so big that you get lost and overwhelmed, but not so small that you can't do a complete workout. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly all the time. The prices are also extremely reasonable here and they never try to push classes, registration, or anything like that on you. I believe this gym is a huge part to my fitness success!

Just joined because the gym I previously belonged to is closing, which is near the Catalyst French Road location. I went to the Catalyst French Road location and many of the machines seemed very old, and not working properly. The machines at the BAC (which is closing) were much better. I'm going to give this location a chance, as this was my first visit, and possibly I just have to get used to this gym. I wanted to work out at the French Road location because it's close to home but if I don't like this location, I'm going to try a different Catalyst location.

The staff here has gone downhill quickly!! I have been a member for years but recently had to endure constant staff creepers. In my work I deal with men (of varying manners) all day, but this was out of hand! When I complained to management about a couple specific staff members it only got worse. I felt so uncomfortable. Ladies unless you like being creeped on the whole time you're trying to workout go to another gym. I am now at an all women's gym and feel so much better about working out.

Definitely a top tier gym in Buffalo. If not the best, definitely one of the best. They did a great job with the remodel and added a lot of open space. Great free weight section and plenty of cardio equipment. Just an overall great vibe/atmosphere if you're serious about fitness. Clean locker rooms, great staff.
