I came across the Catalyst space after seeing Dr. Kathy Dooley as a patient. I was looking for a place close to my office where I could get in extra mindful movement midday or in the earlier morning. My main activity is olympic weightlifting, so I really wanted programming that would supplement and complement this and would help me to work on imbalances. Catalyst and its coaches have delivered 200%. I look forward to going there my 2x a week and even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the virtual training sessions have maintained the same high quality as the in-person ones. Their hyper focus on quality of movement, strength, coordination, balance, stability and BREATH is unlike any other place I have trained and this couldn't have been a better decision for me. All the coaches are phenomenal and even all the members I have interacted with and shared space with are beyond welcoming and friendly. A truly great investment for me.

Catalyst Sport has been one of the best things about my move to New York. The Catalyst system engages the brain as much as the body, and every program is individually tailored and constantly challenging, grounded in functional movement. The small group fitness system means there is always helpful advice on technique at hand. And the staff are both welcoming and encouraging, without judgement about your skill level. I have felt improvement in so many chronic pain and movement restrictions since training there. Highly recommended.

The missing key.
I’ve lifted weights for the better part of 10 years. Despite my own diligence, I struggled with nagging injuries and limited progression. I had persistent doubts about whether or not my program design was correct or if I was “feeling” it in the right muscles. Best training environment I’ve experience in New York City. I played college soccer and have been reusing workouts and poor training habits for years. The trainers here showed me correct mechanics and got me on a program specific to my body and my needs. Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn how to lift the right way, improve movement, build strength, and stay healthy.

I started with Catalyst S.P.O.R.T. about 3 months ago. I have to say that I am not easily impressed but this place has blown me away. The staff is friendly, hands-on, extremely knowledgeable, and very focused on your own customized regimen. The exercises change and progress to keep you challenged and growing. I practice martial arts at a high level and witnessed a marked improvement in my game. I'm sure they can assist any athlete at any level get better. Big fan of these guys!

I am not a person who has ever enjoyed working out. I would sign up for a program and quit within a month. But this year I tried Catalyst and things completely changed. Their trainers all work diligently to ensure that not only do you physically develop with your personal goals but you learn how to self train and reach them. There is no back of the class to hide in and you’re not going through the motions of what works for most people, you’re learning approaches that are designed to work for you. I truly enjoy the growth and progress I have made, not fumbling my way through the exercises but truly understanding and benefiting from them. This is a great program that I truly believe is not like anything I’ve ever tried... and I’ve tried a lot.

Catalyst has made me really enjoy weight training.. something I always wanted to do, but never knew where to start! They determine individual strengths, weaknesses and imbalances, and then the program is set up with all of that in mind. I came to Catalyst with the goal of improving overall strength and to prevent recurrent injuries. After a few short months, I'm able to see and and feel the benefits. Catalyst has been a life saver for me! With the help of its knowledgeable, educated instructors I have learned how to use my body properly to fight back and shoulder pain. The team is made up of trainers, physical therapists, chiropractors and nutritionists, and the idea behind their practice is that the body is treated holistically—from breathing mechanics to movement quality to good old fashioned heavy lifting—so it’s not your regular gym where you exercise and then leave. It’s a way of living without pain as much as it is an inspiring environment filled with motivated people. There are semi-private and private sessions and the trainers are always present to make sure that you are moving and lifting correctly; unlike other gyms where nobody cares how you do a push-up, here certified people will keep an eye on you. Additionally, the trainers will create a personalized program that you can use at home—you are not only learning to train properly, you are learning to train independently, which is a skill that will serve you for life. It’s not inexpensive, but it’s worth it. I cannot recommend Catalyst enough to anyone who wants to see a best version of themselves come to life!

When I joined Catalyst my goals were modest; stand up straight, reduce my limp, walk a mile without pain. If you're female and you were deterred from strength training because of everything you THINK you know about it...come here and get educated! Think injury prevention (who doesn't want to live longer?), hormonal balance, mood improvement, and the ability to show off your pull-ups at parties...Unlike commercial gyms, Catalyst gives you training programs that align with your personal goals, so if your goal is to become a professional fighter, you're obviously going to get a program that focuses on those body mechanics rather than someone who's trying to be a runway model! Also, ask lots of questions because all the coaches are huge knowledge banks. Many people who train here are super loyal and have been doing so for years, so you won't see a high turnover of clients. Thoughtful, intentional, and effective training is what I come here for.

I started training at Catalyst in January 2018. The programs are curated to the individual which for me is the biggest draw. I asked them for a program that focuses on building functional strength overall and it’s working. I’m stronger, more flexible and in general more aware of my body. My main cardiovascular exercise is through the sport of Jiu Jitsu and the functional strength concepts have carried over into my training sessions. The environment is great, the trainers are great (and knowledgeable), and the programs are challenging and always evolving. If you are looking for a change, motivation, or just to workout, you can’t go wrong with the men and women over at Catalyst.

After getting referred by a couple friends to start working out with Catalyst, I can't speak highly enough of their trainers and the semi-private training program. The instruction they provide is very detailed and provides a great balance with strength-based training and some time at the end for high-intensity conditioning. I've never been as fit strength-wise in my life than I am currently, and much of that I owe to the instruction and advice I received at Catalyst.
Highly recommend if you're looking for some strength-based training and top-notch instruction!

I've been in a lot of gyms but Catalyst is the absolute best. The trainers here are fun, sophisticated, and incredibly knowledgeable about how to safely and effectively improve how your body works. It's an amazing environment of people who are focused on the right health goals (strength and mobility for health and quality of life) as opposed to usual "bro" culture inanity. I'm a mid-30's desk jockey and the two years I've trained here have made a huge difference in my strength, flexibility, energy level, and mood. It's cheaper than therapy and way more fun. I can't recommend it highly enough (except for trainer Talia's comically-terrible music taste).

Catalyst is run by a group who really know their stuff. I was recently invited to join their Faster, Further Safer running program, a virtual program where they send you new exercises to perform, refreshed weekly to complement your running schedule. The cost was free, so there can be no better value than that.
The exercises take between 15-20 mins to do depending on if you are doing 3 or 5 sets. I've chosen to do 5. Each week the exercises progress and build up to get harder and harder so have the patience to stick with it. I'm currently in the middle of week 4. I do the catalyst prescribed exercises 3x a week and I run 2-3x a week. I always do the exercises as a warm up to my run, and i've been running just over 5 miles each time.
This week's exercises had been sweating and working a good HR by the time I finished and actually had me a little sore the very next day. I like the core and leg strengthening i'm doing with these exercises, and it's totally translating into my running. Based on running the same 5+ mile course from the start of the program in week 1, I have already shaved over 2:30 off my average time and feel stronger and faster while incorporating intervals in my runs.
I'd highly recommend going to see these guys and gals for super high level coaching. BTW, it's not just for running. These guys know their stuff for strength training, weight lifting, HIIT training, conditioning, kickboxing and even pain management. So whatever your interests, Catalyst will help you be better at it.

These trainers are AWESOME. Every single one knows there stuff, inside and out. Progressing is smooth and steady, and you'll be surprised with your strength gains very quickly!
Workouts are even fun and focused...and you're not running around the gym like a headless chicken, throwing straight bars over your head loaded with hundreds of pounds, like CrossFit! I know - I've done CrossFit...and have the multiple injuries and years of PT to prove it.

I've been training at Catalyst for 5 weeks now, and it has been fantastic. I've only been doing it once a week, and I am noticeably stronger. Most of the movements they have you doing are working a lot of different large muscle groups, so it isn't leg day or arm day or chest day, it's just full body day every day.

I have been coming to Catalyst for over a year now and it has completely changed the way I view working out. The past few years I have been dealing with a torn labrum in my hip and shoulder as well as cervical disk herniations. These injuries have made it harder and harder to work out pain free. I've been a client of Catalyst S.P.O.R.T for over 6 months and I love how I feel physically and emotionally, especially considering that I'm 7 months pregnant. I decided to move forward with training when I first found out because I thought it would help with coping with the pregnancy/recovery and I'm so glad I did. I have learned to use my body more efficiently and safely. Better yet, I've managed to avoid a lot of common pregnancy discomforts such as lower back pain because my core is that much stronger. I have the coaches to thank for that. They have been phenomenal and I love working with everyone of them. They are fun, patient kind and push you to work harder than you think you can. I've been going to Catalyst S.P.O.R.T. since it first opened. I highly recommend this fitness center! Whether for injury recovery, staying fit and healthy or for runners, triathletes and powerlifters, there is a trainer and program for everyone. Training at Catalyst S.P.O.R.T. with Jason Kapnick has helped me prevent common running injuries thanks to their functional movement and core strengthening program. Their Semi Private Training (SPT) program is also a fun way to workout with a group and get focused attention from one of their exceptional trainers.
