Iβve been to central rock gym on numerous occasions and would highly recommend. Itβs obviously a great facility to go climbing, but people often overlook how great their gym is. With their memberships plan you get a solid gym that has everything you need and a rock climbing place in one! Go check it out for a free tour

I joined about a month ago with absolutely no climbing experience, but Iβve really enjoyed building my strength and skill here! The yoga and fitness classes make the membership beyond worth it, the instructors are so friendly and super into modifications while pushing yourself where you can.

So this is the only gym around here. That being said is it good enough? Yes itβs good enough. Itβs a big enough gym and itβs clean and whatnot. But one specific rule is really really irking me. Iβve been belay certified before, but just in case my buddy that climbs consistently wanted to make sure I remebered. After about 5 minutes or so of practice and a couple reminders I was as good as I thought I needed to be. The front desk staff said that because I practiced beforehand they couldnβt certify me permanently and also not even for the day. So we couldnβt belay at all because I practiced beforehand. On what planet is practicing not encouraged and allowed? I then specifically asked something along the lines of βso you would rather have me not practice but be just barely good enough to pass vs practice for 5 minutes and be really good?β They said itβs for safety reasons and wouldnβt even test me. Really threw off the day.

Pros:
- good mixture of routes and movements
- clean space
- nice staff
- lots of angles and good use of space in routes
- two (fixed) system boards
Cons:
- people do not brush holds (very slick slopers and crimps); good for skin I guess but not good for sending

As a an adolescent, going to this gym solo is a great environment because of the variety of difficulties in the boulders. Compared to other gyms, I enjoy how this one is on the down low but very high quality. Other gyms in my experience are way too crowded and undermine the availability of easier difficulties for beginners like me.

Everyone was incredibly sweet here and Louis was a great intro instructor! Definitely recommend if you're new to climbing or even if you're experienced as everyone was welcoming.
I also appreciate that they have an adaptive class monthly. We have yet to try this out but I love that this is even an option. I'm hoping to bring my little one to this at some point and its nice to have an inclusive environment for those with disabilities in the syracuse area.

Good for climbing. Awful weight room. You would think for the price they would invest in some decent workout equipment so you could strength train a little better. Nope. If you go during hours when human beings normally go to the gym, none of the equipment will be available, half the time because one of their own youth groups has taken over the room. I really wish they would invest in this area. It's not the focus of a climbing gym, but when you're paying this much for a gym membership, you can't really afford to pay for a second gym with actual equipment.

I was there with my service dog who is in training for at least 40 minutes before I was approached by a worker saying sheβs not allowed. I have seen non working dogs at the gym before. My working dog was not aggressive nor was she showing any signs of aggression. I will be filing a BBB complaint as well as a complaint to the ADA.

Tried for the first time; my 7 year old and I used the automatic ones, and it was easy to get climbing right away! Watch the videos and Fill out the waivers ahead online to save time. Cost was about $50 for the two of us, but we could climb as much as much we wanted. Lots of spots to rest and take breaks. Vending machines available too.

This is easily my favorite place to be. The atmosphere is always incredible, the staff are the coolest people you'll meet, and the whole place has a strong value in community.
Good for first timers (unlike some other gyms) as well as experienced/advanced climbers. So much to do no matter what your experience level is.

Awesome gym! Friendly staff, great routes, tons of options and space, open all day and into the night, safe location. Used a Groupon for my family to learn to belay and that was a great deal. This place is great. The staff are friendly and the climbers are as well. This is my home gym, but when I travel I try to check out other gyms. When I do, I always appreciate coming home to CRG Syracuse. The routes are always fresh, the holds are clean and aren't worn out, and the climbs are very well marked and spaced out. Syracuse doesn't always have a lot going for it as a smaller city, but we're very fortunate to have CRG and a vibrant indoor climbing community.

CRG-Syracuse is the best! They have a really dope space in an old factory with both ropes and bouldering. It's a welcoming place if you are new to climbing and they regularly set interesting routes for all levels of climbers. But really what makes it the best is the people - not just the awesome setters (including women πͺ) or the folks who you'll chat with at the desk or who will help you learn new climbing skills, but also the amazing crew of youth programs coaches who are the absolute awesome-est at helping kids and teens become better climbers and more confident humans!

Wow! This place was awesome! I purchased day passes and belay class for myself and my boyfriend. We were just looking to try something new. I was a little concerned as Iβd never rock climbed before, but the belay instructor, Declan, was amazing. The hour long class just flew by- Declan took his time making sure everyone in the class was comfortable and understood the material. I never felt unsafe or like things were moving too quickly for me. He was informative and entertaining and the whole class caught on quickly with his instruction. Once we passed the class, we were let loose to go climb. We had an absolute blast. It was a challenge but so much fun that we went home that night and purchased our own climbing equipment. We canβt wait to go back to this gym! I would absolutely recommend to anyone.

Transferred my membership from CRG Buffalo back in 2019, and finally decided to come back early this year after a long break. Coming from Buffalo where the gym was newly built and opened around 2017/8, Syracuse felt a bit small. However, the recent expansion changed all that and this gym got so much bigger IMO. As someone who only boulders, it added a lot more space to climb. Their gym is also well equipped and never crowded. There are racks, free weights, and some cardio machines which is enough to get a great workout in. Staff are also super friendly and approachable!

I came here with my 8 year old daughter and 4 of her friends. They were wild and crazy and impatient but your staff, namely Ray, helped us have a fun and safe experience. Ray was patient, kind, encouraging, but also made sure the kids understood the seriousness of what they were doing, and the rules to keep them and everyone else safe. The kids had a blast tackling the bouldering and even braving their way through their fears on the auto belay. We had a great time and look forward to coming back. Thanks central rock and thank you to the wonderful employee Ray!

I missed this place. Great setting, interesting holds, challenges for all ability levels from climbing grades 5.6 to 5.13+, 40ft+ walls with auto belay, top rope, and lead climbing so you can climb even if you don't have a partner. They even have a party wall for groups.
The bouldering is fantastic with all types of holds and surfaces including slab, vertical, and extremely overhung at 45Β°, 20Β°, and 90Β° surfaces among others.

Bouldering is set well and consistent. The rope climbing is mundane due to the lackluster wall geometry (mostly dead vertical, no real "cave" to speak of,) hence the 4/5 rating. Current training facilities are adequate. Staff are great, very friendly and helpful. No birthday parties, which is nice. Once they complete the expansion and add more bouldering and a Tension/Moonboard it will be very solid.

After going a few times I joined Syracuse's CRG last month. Initially I thought it would be a means to fill the void of ADK hiking for my son (age 6) & I in the winter months. However, thanks to the friendly & accommodating staff, I can tell you that we will be going even when hiking presents itself as a viable option in the spring/summer/fall. The facility presents a physical and mental challenge while, at the same time, promoting teamwork and verbal communication in a world dominated by digital communication & social media. 10/10

Climbed at CRG for one Summer while I stayed with family in Syracuse - hands down one of the best climbing gyms I've been a member to. I recently moved to Boulder, Colorado - and I miss climbing at CRG. Highly recommend taking the lead climbing class if you want to really progress your climbing!
There was an issue with terminating my membership after I moved. I sent them an email and received a call within half an hour. They explained to me their policy but still did everything they could to help me and the issue was promptly resolved.
From the awesome employees, well-set routes, and exceptional customer service, I will definitely be climbing at CRG whenever I am back on the east coast.

I drive over an hour to get here and it is totally worth it! The bouldering routes are interesting and they have good holds. The lead climbing is limited in the overhanging wall, but overall the setting has drastically improved compared to last year. The boulder bash comp is so much fun and I have found many people participating in it who ask for advice or gladly share beta. If you do choose to come here I recommend paying a visit to the nearby coffee shop, but DO NOT GO TO THE BOULANGERIE. I REPEAT, DO NOT GO TO THE BOULANGERIE. Other than the nearby boulangerie, it is a great gym with delicious food nearby. 10/10π₯π₯π₯

While I love this gym, I find it aggravating to workout around so many unattended children. In light of my struggles, the staff has been more than helpful and kind in attending to them. Itβs probably best to go for an evening climb when the kids are asleep!

My little girl had her birthday party at Central Rock. She has not stopped talking about how much fun she had. The staff went above and beyond to make sure the kids enjoyed themselves. Dana, Lou and Aiden were AMAZING, professional and so accommodating! Some of the kids were first time climbers and a bit apprehensive at first but the staff put them at ease. By the time we were done the kids were mini rock climbing pros βΊοΈ Thank you for the wonderful experience!

The employees are very knowledgable and approachable. I never felt intimidated while I was there, and there were people of all ability levels using the facilities. Speaking of the facilities, they had a variety of features and training sessions you could choose from. Whether you want to do a yoga class, or are looking for the most extreme free climbing routes, you would not be disappointed with Central Rock.
