Bad Management / unclean locker rooms / lacks basic amenities like tissues !!!
I have asked so many people who work at the gym to start adding tissues upstairs in the locker room / workout area - they all said no problem BUT it never happened.
as you can see from the owners response below they don’t listen to the most basic requests of their clients!
FYI- it’s winter i don’t need tissues constantly as he rudely suggested below- its a basic sanitary amenity that so many other women in the locker room comisersted about also needing and not having when everyone comes in sniffling from the cold - especially when preparing to exert yourself !
For a place that we pay to be NOT getting basic amenities or having a DECENT response to requests as basic as Kleenex is alarming and lacks the sense of community it would eb so easy to create
the owners response was unessarily unhelpful when it’s such an easy thing to fix that so many would appreciate
INSANE + should be embarrassed

With the many gyms to choose from in Brooklyn, I gravitated towards this one, and I’m glad I did. A good atmosphere, and a good selection of machines and free weights too! All the other people working out were respectful, and hygienic when it came to wiping down machines/equipment.
Pasquale was really helpful and welcoming at the reception. It was a very positive experience all round!

Was a member for ~3 years while I lived in the area, and loved it. Well-kept and clean facility, a wide range of equipment, responsive management, great PTs, and good vibes. I loved that the classes had no extra charge and were drop in. That made it really easy to attend one last minute, or switch things up when work unexpectedly went late.

I've moved and my new gym just isn't the same.
Chalk was such a well-run, friendly, no nonsense gym. I love their "pay per month, cancel whenever" policy. I love the sauna. I even love my jabroni gym nemesis who always lifts a little bit more than me. I'll miss you Chalk!

This is my favorite gym in Williamsburg. Very friendly staff. Never too crowded. I am only in Williamsburg for parts of the year. It took less than a minute to set up my membership, less than a minute to suspend my membership when I leave town, and less than a minute to renew whenever I've been back. No hassle, no cancelation fees, no strange rules. Overall, great gym!

Chalk is great! The place is well maintained and lively but not overcrowded or chaotic. The staff is friendly and helpful and other members are chill and just focused on getting their work-outs in, no BS. The space is laid out logically and efficiently and they recently upgraded the equipment which is also great. I'll be a member for as long as I'm in the neighborhood.

I've been a member at Chalk Gym on and off over the last year, and while there are some great aspects, there are definitely areas that could use improvement.
On the positive side, I took a yoga class and thought it was excellent—well-instructed and a great addition to their offerings. The overall atmosphere has a good energy, and I appreciate having access to a sauna, though the cramped locker room setup makes it more stressful than relaxing for me.
That said, for the cost of the membership, I do feel like the value doesn’t fully match up. Some of the equipment, especially the cardio machines, are dated or in need of repair. The treadmills get the job done, but they’re definitely showing their age. I also wish there were a few more cardio bike machines to provide more options. A particular issue I’ve noticed is with the weights on the pull-up bars—they tend to get stuck together, likely due to moisture in the air, making them difficult to use. Small maintenance issues like this add up over time and make the experience feel less premium than the price suggests.
Overall, Chalk has potential and some great perks, but for the price, I’d love to see better upkeep of equipment, more cardio options, and a more spacious locker room layout.

Chalk Gym is hands down the most welcoming and accommodating gym I've ever been to. I've been a loyal member for 3 years and can’t say enough about how much I appreciate the management and staff and their commitment to customer care. The selection of equipment is wide, and I've rarely had to wait to use anything during my training hours, which is a huge plus.
The gym is always clean and well-organized, making it a comfortable place to work out. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting, Chalk Gym offers a supportive and motivating environment. I'm grateful to be part of such a thoughtful fitness community and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an inviting gym experience.

Overall pretty good. Equipment is a little outdated and bathrooms are small vs capacity. But As a on and off member for past two years I’d say it’s been a pretty good experience. Friendly enough staff and members. Nice lounge area to rest and relax. For the location it’s a good deal if you make the most of it.

Really truly love this gym the only reasoning for it not being 5 stars is solely for the purpose of the options/ flexibility when it comes to the monthly payments.
One they don't accept any cash payments even if it's before the deadline. Everything is auto-pay. Which also means you can't pay in advance if you wanted to. Which kinda sucks but the policy is the policy.
Other than that it's a very clean gym. The equipment is amazing especially what they have for chest. The staff is amazing and makes you feel like your family. The classes and the variety are just top-tier.

Overall been a member for close to 2 years and have to say Chalk is just ok. Before I go on about the downfalls of the gym, I want to say 5 stars when it comes to how clean the place is as well as how great the front staff are - specially Ryan. Ok- first and foremost I am all for spending the money but the Fee they charge is high for the experience you get. The equipment is easily from the 90s or max early 2000s and the owner has no interest in upgrading or getting new equipment. The owner is all about keeping his cost down, you can tell that because the guy has the thermostat on at 74 degrees and most of the time it is 76 or so in the upstairs area during the summer. On 90 degree plus days, Ive seen the temp measure 80 degrees plus- which frankly is not safe. Crunch for 20 dollars has the a/c flowing and blowing. The other thing is really some of the equipment has seen better days specially the main jungle gym which looks like its about to fall apart or is rarely maintained. The yoga mats are not looking hot too. I would really recommend a new chest fly machine and universal back machine with multiple grips. If you are looking for easy gym solely due to location, sure go for it thats why I did but I think the reality is its outdated and expensive for what it really is, and theres no plan for the owner to put a cent into the business.

My only complaint would be that the locker room is v small, and there are 1 or 2 machines that they don't have which most gyms do/should. However, it is truly the last gym standing in the neighborhood that has good lighting, a nice layout, and isn't disgustingly crowded. The sauna is a nice plus. Membership dues could be cheaper, but in today's world that's just how it goes.

Best gym in the area!! I used to go to Equinox and hated the vibe & the ridiculous price tag and membership terms. Chalk Gyms is easy to sign up & isn’t stuffy. People who go here are friendly & always clean after themselves.
Staff is so nice, feels like a neighborhood gym which is hard to find in NYC. I’ve made friends with regulars, it makes going to the gym not intimidating.
There are also free classes every day of the week including spin classes, and not crowded during the day before 5pm.

Stayed in Williamsburg as part of my vacation and knew that I needed to find a gym. Lucky for me this was within walking distance to where I was staying. Upon entering, Joey at the front desk was SUPER nice. Seriously, great kind guy delivering excellent customer service! I was impressed.
The facility itself is pretty nice with it's brick walls and assortment of equipment and rooms. The equipment itself is older but if you know anything about lifting you know that this more than fine as newer equipment doesn't mean the workout is any better. Personally, I loved it. They also had the color coated plates designating the weights which was nice.
Overall, if I lived here in Williamsburg, this would easily be my home gym. A great facility with excellent customer service. 5 out of 5!

Williamsburg is a town with some stuff gym competition. However, Chalk sets itself apart with its state of the art equipment, carefully crafted aesthetic, good leadership, and EXCEPTIONAL staff. These components coalesce seamlessly to generate a fantastic community that serves as an oasis in this large and sometimes impersonal city. Ryan (front desk employee) makes efforts to get to know all of his clientele and does so quickly. He also religiously hosts a social night each Friday night with the goal of creating a close community (pre-COVID). In addition Hayes, another front desk employee, is always diligent in his work and creates close friendships with members. It is far too often that a short one hour workout turns into a two to theee hour visit (again pre-COVID) due to this fantastic staff and shared goal. I will be a member here for as long as I remain in Brooklyn.

I have been a regular at Chalk Gym for some time now. It has a great range of equipment considering its size, all the classes are free, membership is per month and the PTs are all very good (not in your face either).
The atmosphere is very casual as well (no gym bros) and I love the music playlist (more Foals pls).
I would say that some machines have been removed to make space for the Covid guidelines however the gym is kept clean and tidy, people are considerate with social distancing and masks are enforced.
They take a temperature check when you enter so I feel safe that Chalk Gym is being as safe and secure as possible given the restrictions in place.
I definitely missed this place during lockdown!

Rude customer service manager (Jack), great clean-up staff, lots of good machines and weights, plenty of classes in the back. the sauna could use some sanding of the old, stained wood. Loud music too often. People who hang out there trend on the unfriendly, douchy side. The male physical trainers seems to be a bit aggro and unfriendly, but the women trainers are quite friendly and sweet. Funny thing is this place was used in Broad City as the gym that Abbi worked at, poking fun at the lame pretense of the quasi-fictional version of an NYC gym.

I have been a member for about 2 years and unfortunately have to cancel my membership due to moving about an hour away. If I could take the gym with me, I would! Michael is great and quick via email to pause memberships at any time. In the gym world, who does that!? If you're local in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint/Bushwick area and looking for a step up from your average chain gym but want to stay away from the snooty Equinox's of the world (btw, speaking from experience for the Williamsburg location at least, there's nothing for them to be snooty about), this is your place!

I was a member at Chalk FOR 2 YEARS and also at Retrofitness and Equinox in Williamsburg at the same time because I love different classes.
Just moved to Miami but had to evacuate because of Hurricane Irma. I had cancelled my membership 10 days before so I came back to explain my situation and ask if I could do a yoga class. Sunday night IS LOW TRAFFIC at that gym. Really needed a workout so bad after days on the road from Miami to Nyc. I would never have expected them to treat me the way they did.
Jack the front desk guy gave me an attitude and told me if I wanted to participate to yoga I had to pay a 2 day pass: 68$ (my 2 years membership was 80 a month !) I couldn't believe it. He was very rude when I asked to see a manager he said I had to leave. Wouldn't let me talk and assaulted me (I have a video) by standing in front of me and walking towards me to scare me. After the incident I got a mail from the owner who said since I wasn't a member anymore I shouldn't even have entered the gym...!? UNBELIEVABLE
All these guys care about is your money 💰
I put this comment on Google it was removed I am posting it again.
I'm just sharing what happened.
As a matter of fact EQUINOX and RETROFITNESS told me they were pleased to welcome me. So if you are new in the neighborhood and hesitate between these gyms to get a membership.... here is my story.
