Merrick Champions taekwondo school is the best school in Merrick. Master Kang really cares about each and every student like me. He is extremely experienced and knowledgeable. First of all, my 6-year old son says he gives Champions Merrick 5 stars. I have to agree wholeheartedly. The instructors are excellent - they teach respect and discipline, but in a way which is not overly intimidating to the students. And they manage to do so through a variety of activities and drills that the children both seem to enjoy and learn a great deal from. I've seen a positive change in my son since he started classes there. We love Champions.

My two kids both train here. I strongly recommend it for anyone wanting to learn taekwondo. Master Kang is highly credentialed and runs so many programs for all ages. The commitments (contract or monthly) are very flexible, and there are many classes 6 days a week so it's easy to fit into a busy schedule. Depending on what you're looking for, Master Kang can either teach your kids a fun afterschool activity or can give intensive training with opportunities to compete internationally. We feel very lucky to have this dojang right in our neighborhood.

My son attends the Little Tiger Program and I take adult classes. I also took tae kwon do classes for over 10 years at another school in the neighborhood I moved from and helped teach classes as well, so I have some experience. Master Kang is VERY good with children. He intentionally keeps the focus on character building and basics for kids and is very thoughtful about how he tailors classes to the students in them. I hurt my knee soon after joining and he was very attentive and made sure to focus on exercises with me that would help me regain strength in my knee and heal after my injury. My son LOVES his classes and is excited to go every class. I am very happy we found this school and look forward to many more years of training!

He skillfully and patiently teaches my 10 yr old son the forms, the life principles/ morals in a way that my son can absorb and build his confidence. Merrick Champions is very fortunate to have Master Kang for it’s new head master. We first met Master Kang when my son was invited to join Team Champions, the elite sparring team for which Master Kang is head coach. I have watched him lead my son to win the AAU national championship, an impressive performance at last year’s US Open as well as many state championships. He has ranked between #1 and #8 in the country for the last 4 years and would not have had such high achievements without Master Kang.

Master Kang not only has extensive experience but he truly cares for all of his students. I have seen him easily go from working closely with beginners to training elite athletes which is truly his gift.

Taekwondo instills confidence & discipline as well as physical fitness and Master Kang is the best there is.

I wish I had known about Merrick CMA school long ago and wish my kids had started when they were younger. This is the best Martial Arts school. My kids (12-year old and 5-year old) both love going to their Taekwondo classes. It's always "Is it Taekwondo day today, Mommy?"

I can see positive changes in them. I must say that Merrick CMA did not only strengthened them physically but also mentally. They have learned amazing skills and values---discipline, confidence, focus, respect, and patience.

My son had started here in February 2020, and then COVID happened. I have to appreciate the Taewkendo Merrick location staff for their outstanding efforts during this time. Master Kim and Ms. Felicia never stopped classes—they continued with virtual/zoom classes and my son was able to even take a belt test and move to the next level. My son looked forward to the classes. Especially, Ms. Felicia is absolutely wonderful— she is patient in answering questions, caring to the children, great in class.
