My concern isn’t with the gym or its amenities but with the leadership and the overall member experience. Several weeks ago, I received a notification about a dues increase, which I immediately contested. It took about a week to get a response, and that response didn’t come from the general manager who sent the initial message. Instead, I received a follow-up from another representative who didn’t fully acknowledge or address the specific questions I raised.
What concerns me most is the apparent lack of value placed on members. There seems to be no real effort toward member retention or engagement. For example, despite my direct inquiry about the cost of a family add-on, I never received a clear answer. As a paying member, it feels as though my feedback and experience aren’t truly considered.
Because of this, I’ve decided to take my membership and business elsewhere. Members should feel prioritized, heard, and valued… not dismissed or overlooked.

I’m a current member of the gym and general like it, particularly in this location as there are no other high end gyms I can walk to. With that said, the music is constantly too loud. Nobody comes to the gym for music (besides there own) so I’m not sure why they do this. The other big draw for this location is the coworking space so you can hop on a meeting before of after your work out if needed, but that’s almost impossible with the music as loud as it is.
I’ve read other comments regarding crowdedness and I don’t find it to be that bad, but the squat racks can have a 5 min wait at peak. It’s about the same as any other NYC gym at rush hour.

I joined in October and really love it here. I appreciate how bright it is in here and it feels like a real gym. The sauna and steam room are the highlights for me. The staff is also so nice that it feels good walking into the gym.

I love going there, even though I cannot do it as often as I want to. I only now found the time to address a very unpleasant experience at Chelsea Piers Fitness. So, on December 19, 2024, I came to the gym, exercised, and went to the sauna afterward. When I was changing, I found a needle in the seating area of the changing room. It was not a regular needle; I had never seen this small needle in my life. So I was waiting for employees to show up and point that out, and when I finally saw one of the employees, I showed them the needle. No one addressed this issue with me or asked questions about the incident. I find this approach neglectful towards customers because it could be anything with that needle. Now, I always look around before I sit anywhere.

I cannot say enough good things about this gym. I’ve been a member of “luxury” gyms in the past and they don’t even begin to compare to CPF.
The facilities are beautiful and clean, there’s a great variety of equipment with enough of it that there’s rarely a long wait, and above all the instructors and classes are incredible. The community overall is also incredibly welcoming and supportive. I rarely miss a day here just because of how much fun it is.
They also host a variety of members events, and while they can often book up quickly when they’re open to members at all locations, the gym-specific ones are quite easy to join.
My only regret when it comes to CPF is that it took me this long to join!

My husband and I have been at Chelsea Piers for two years now. We started at Downtown Brooklyn but made the switch once Prospect Heights opened.
I love the classes, the instructors, and the facilities. It’s clean and predictable. I have read other reviews talking about how busy it is, but honestly - I have been a member at multiple gyms and have never known this to not be the case at peak hours. It is no different at Chelsea Piers. People have also shared about being wait listed for classes. This is true, but only once did I show up for a class I was wait listed for and was turned away. It was also Hot Yoga at 10am on a Saturday (peak time and the room was full).
Presently the gym is attempting to make an effort for more community events (kayaking, spartan races, run clubs, book clubs, etc,) if you are looking to find friends they make it easy.
My only caution is the childcare. They market it like it is an option but you can only book 25 hours in advance over the phone and they only take 5 -8 kids at a time. It’s not my favorite option but I use it when my husband is out of town. Because it’s a short amount of time (you can only book in two hour blocks, additional $20), I don’t mind. If it were longer, I still wouldn’t leave my baby in there longer than 90 minutes as the staff are kind but I am not confident they have enough experience to be working with such a range of kids.
I love the coworking space and am there at least twice a week to work. That alone had us sold. A coworking pass in our neighborhood is $200 a month so being able to show up, work, work out, shower, and then jump in a phone booth for a meeting- that alone is worth the cost.
Highly recommend!

Have been a member for 6+ months and don't have a bad thing to say about CP. Delightful staff/trainers, facilities, equipment, and vibes. The co-working space is a huge bonus, and there's an attached coffee shop/canteen (and an even better one across the street). Joining was a huge life upgrade and I'm excited to spend my mornings there 5-6 days/week

I do not recommend this gym for parents. The childcare staff are inexperienced and do not change diapers thoroughly, leaving babies in an unhygienic condition. They are too young themselves and too inexperienced to be responsible for babies and very young children. The hours for the childcare are during normal working hours, so if you are a working parent, you cannot workout before or after work. It's difficult to get childcare on the weekends since the limited time slots become full immediately. The co-working space is not a reasonable temperature - it's much too cold to be comfortable for most people. And there is music blasting at high volumes in the coworking space while the fitness classes are ongoing. The whole set up needs to be improved.

I have been a member since CPFC’s (Downtown Brooklyn) inception. The gym is welcoming and inclusive. CPFC helped me train to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and years later to come back from an injury. They have top notch equipment, a pool, varied classes, excellent instructors, beautiful locker rooms, sauna and a spa. Their co-working space is lovely and they hold a wide-range of monthly community events. Everyone from the maintenance staff, front desk staff, spa staff, instructors, trainers, cafe workers and managers are skilled, friendly and genuinely work to ensure that you have a great experience. Highly recommend.

The gym is nice, albeit small and I like the working space. But there are far too many members. Weeknights are impossible. You’re always waiting on machines. The classes (included!) are amazing, and there’s such variety- spin, Pilates, yoga, conditioning, boxing, I could go on, there’s more than that! Some people are complaining about the confusion between the gym and lack of access to the field house next door, but they’re separate businesses. The nomenclature is confusing, but I take those complaints as Field House complaints, as what the gym offers alone is great. First off, you can easily use this as a coworking space and it’s fantastic for that. When you factor in
the cost of a hot desk at a WeWork, which is like $130 now, you’re getting a very nice gym on the cheap. The facilities are spotless and the staff is super nice. Plus, there really isn’t a viable alternative nearby. This area is really short on nice gyms and even boutique fitness options—so it’s a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. My wife wishes that not so much of the yoga was hot yoga—and I’m sure their offerings aren’t going to be for everyone—but for me, I love it. I also do the all location membership and don’t mind heading to DT BK to swim when I need. It really isn’t far away. The childcare team is lovely and we use it for our two year old every other week. For $20 for two hours that’s a bargain. That right there is saving us another $40-50 a month easily.

Joined in September and love it! The membership is worth it for the classes and facilities (sauna, steam room). The staff are always super nice and friendly.
I saw a comment on the classes being hard to get into...they're not? I went to 18 in September, 21 in October and I'm working my way through November. I have never been denied a class. The wait list always comes through. I have also shown up to the gym without signing up (in a worry I might be late) and I'm always welcomed into the class. I have only been to yoga, pilates, and core classes.

The facilities at Chelsea Piers Prospect Heights are gorgeous, but it's just too crowded.
If you plan to work out between 7:30 and 10:30AM or 4:30 and 8:30PM, you should not join this gym. It's absolutely packed. There is always a wait for the benches, and you often need to wait for cardio equipment and weight machines as well. I try to go in the early afternoon, but if I miss that timeframe, I've found myself just not going to the gym because I don't want to deal with the crowd.
The classes are great and I love the instructors. However, you need to set an alarm 25 hours in advance if you'd like to get in. They fill up quickly. The pilates and yoga studio is huge, so those classes are easier to get into. Overall, this is a beautiful gym but there is no cap on memberships, and they are continuing to push enrollment. It has the price tag of a luxury gym, but the crowds of a Planet Fitness.

I had a really disappointing experience touring the facility this morning. I arrived for my 9am scheduled tour and was told that no one was there to show us around, and we ended up waiting almost 40 minutes for a sales rep to show up and give us a tour. The front desk people were apologetic but frazzled and said that we should have gotten a cancellation email, that they didn't know when we'd be seen, and as soon as we got up to leave the sales rep coincidentally walked in.
When the sales rep arrived, he was slightly apologetic for making us wait that long and said he might be able to get us a free workout for the time we sat there or something to compensate us for our time.
We toured the gym, and maybe we found the website to be misleading, but we thought this location had a family membership structure that would allow our son to do classes next door at the field house while me and my partner could get a workout in at the gym. This isn't the case at all— each adult has to pay the $210 monthly fee on top of initiation fees, and adults aren't allowed to use the pool at the field house. Even the sales rep said people came in all the time looking for this type of membership and that the website was misleading, and it seems like such a huge missed opportunity, especially for a gym that was EMPTY at 9am on a Tuesday morning. You'd think they'd be willing to offer family memberships in order to get their membership basis up, but that's not the case.
This gym isn't that special for $210 a month, especially since it doesn't have a reformer pilates studio, a pool, or a membership structure with the field house.
In the end, we weren't offered anything special for having to wait so long, and no one working there seemed enthusiastic about the place they were working at. There was definitely an attitude. It's sad because this gym has all of the potential to be a neighborhood hit, and with some simple tweaks, I'd be delighted to be a member.

Gorgeous facility. Great yoga classes. Have to ding for two reasons-
1. There are only four racks and you cannot deadlift anywhere in the facility without a platform. Equinox allows you to deadlift basically anywhere in their facilities.
2. There are never ever any floor trainers to lend a spot. Better bring a gym buddy if you are planning on going low rep. I’ve never seen anyone on the floor trying to help out whereas at equinox there are 2-3 around at all times.

Well as I was told previously this gym is not for anyone serious about lifting, and months after joining i’m finally getting to experience it, they don’t want kids who located next to the weights area being disturbed. Umm excuse me? I’m good thanks. May be think of putting the kids next to yoga or something, just stupid, nothing less to say. Location is clean and some staff is nice, otherwise I’d leave 0 stars. This gym is mostly for newbies or people doing cardio/bodyweight. Whole lots of equipment for nothing since you have to be quiet as a mouse. This is not what I pay 200$+ a month for. Had been kicked off the machine mid-set before because they wanted to move the machine, last day I was there, came to do chest workout during the only time I can workout, they had 2 out of 3 benches occupied for a class? So I waited a hour to get a bench. My membership was cancelled and I was told I was refunded. But I have yet to see money back on my account. It’s expensive, no pool. If you’re serious about working out, just try a more serious gym, if you want classes then it will probably be great for you.

Shocked that this gym signs any new customers on with their arduous, opaque membership process.
As others have noted, they do not give any pricing online or over the phone. I went twice - both times the wait to even receive the iPad to give them my information was 2-3 min. I didn’t have much time the first time to wait for the salesperson and left after 10 min. The second time I filled out the iPad form and waited about 15.
By the time the salesperson came up I had to get on a work call and when I asked them to come back later the salesperson made a rude comment about how she was on her lunch break and that maybe next time I come in I should make an appointment. I might be missing something but if your primary job function is to sell memberships, then maybe don’t do this? Also, I’m all for reserving space on your calendar for sacred times like meals, but I did not force you to come up and would’ve been fine to have Been told to come back later rather than having waited 15 min for you to scarf down your lunch and come meet me cranky. Lol.
This unfortunately was the last straw for me and I will not be joining the gym. I am an equinox member but just started a new job 4 blocks away and this would’ve been sooooo convenient for me.
But the reviews about cancelling, the hoops I had to jump through to even get a price, and this rude interaction was too much for me.

It is very hard to get into classes. The strength classes routinely book up soon after they are available to book. If you are busy and can't register right away you can't get into them. They need to add more strength classes ASAP. Gym is decent, but not as luxurious as Downtown Brooklyn. For this much money I expect to be able to take classes.

My favorite gym in the city! I’ve been to all three locations and while I like the downtown Brooklyn + chelsea locations better, all three facilities are great.
The staff is wonderful; the equipment is top notch(I train as a power lifter and it more than suits my needs); the amenities are great and the gym is spotless; the classes are high quality and enjoyable.
Notable features from my perspective: platforms for weightlifting; cages; deadlift bar; good eleiko training bars and bumper plates.
Highly recommend!

Pretty expensive for what it is. I’m happy to be saving money but I can’t see why I’d pay the same price as the other location when the other location is larger and has way better amenities. $190 is a bit overpriced even should be closer to $160 realistically. I’ll be leaving at the end of my 1 year fine gym just not worth it.

The location is great and so are the amenities. Well kept gym, very clean, towel (and robe) service, handful of classes, and overall decent offerings for a gym in the area. I'm an Equinox snob and I must admit I do think this location is 10x better than a handful of Equinoxs I've been to and has serious potential given the lack of quality gyms close to Fort Green/Clinton Hill/Prospect Heights.
However, there are few things that drive me nuts (mostly with the classes):
1. When booking classes you can't book earlier than a day in advance. I like to plan my days ahead, I have a very demanding schedule. Ideally I wouldn't have to wait until 6pm today to book a 7pm class tomorrow... can we extend the booking window? To be able to book my schedule for the week would be a dream.
2. On the app, you can't see where a class will be held in the gym(???) this seems odd to me. Obviously if its a Hot Yoga class its in the hot studio, same with cycling, but what about core + glutes? What about unheated Yoga classes? Where are those? Is it on the turf? in another studio? what studio??? It drives me nuts. Can we please for the life of me include this information so I know ahead of time where I need to go?
3. The hot pilates and yoga studio is very nice, good amount of heat(though I think it could be hotter), and overall has the potential to be very peaceful. However, there's two GIANT screens in the room that have a continuous loops of palm trees and the ocean-- I get it, but it truly takes away from the space. And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
4. Anyway we can add any earlier classes? I travel into Manhattan for work and I leave for the train at 8 given the commute time. I can't take most of the earlier classes, because they're still too late. 6:45-7:45 class gives me 15 mins to shower and run to the train.... A 6am class offering would be perfect.. I've taken them across a handful of Equinox gyms and those classes have a decent amount of members attend like myself who want to get in a class before work.
5. Steam room and Saunas don't usually work. Its either one or the other..
I hope this helps, and I couldn't imagine that I'm the only one who feels this way.

Gorgeous facility. I'm an original member at the Downtown location and visited the Prospect location today. The layout is decent, the turf area is not as good as the downtown location. Overall, you do have everything you could want out of this facility. The big con is there's no swimming pool, I feel like that's such a huge drawback as swimming is a great way to still work out when you hurt your self and can't do more high impact workouts. Even though the Prospect location is more beautiful, the downtown location definitely takes the cake with the extra swimming pool and turf area. The locker room is spacious, open and immaculately clean. The sauna rooms are also well designed and I love the malin + goetz dispensers here.

I was so excited to join since the gym looked great. I went on the tour and the guide was very good. I really liked the gym and the amenities like the outdoor space and co-working, but there were two things that even though I was ready to sign up made me reconsider.
The music that was being played was unbearable and loud to a point that even with headphones you wouldn’t be able to block it out. The music was not only in the gym but being blasted where everyone was working. It had the sound of a coffee shop that doesn’t want people to stay and work so they make it as uncomfortable as possible so that people won’t stay. It’s confusing because most people working out wear headphones to play their own music so there really is no need to force everyone to listen to bad club music at top volume.
The other issue was that the yoga room was peaceful and set up beautifully, but two of the walls are giant screens. The screens subtract every bit of peacefulness from the space and made it so that even if I did sign up the yoga room would be unusable which makes the price point pretty high for a gym without a good portion of the classes they offer.
So sad to see such a well done gym make such poor decisions that will undoubtedly drive away many customers.

I’m a member of Chelsea Downtown on Schermerhorn (have been a member since opening day), but I used the Prospect Heights location today because of sauna/ steam room repairs at my location. They are cross-honoring memberships until repairs are complete. There are differences between the gyms. Here are some of the things I noticed. TLDR is I like Downtown better. The Prospect facility is beautiful, with wide open spaces, an outdoor seating area, and a cafe (indoor). The indoor lounge/ seating area is nice looking, but I like Downtown’s better because it’s on street level with tons of natural light. The layout of the gym is much more open than the Downtown location, but for me it feels too open, sort of like a fish tank. The main gym floor contains the turf area, machines, free weights, heavy bags, and power racks. There are also some Woodway self-powered mills and rowing machines, air bikes, pull-up bars, sleds, and the main studio on that level. Ringing that whole area is the mezzanine overlooking it. There are cardio machines on this level. Peloton bikes, a couple of varieties of treadmills, exercise bikes, ellipticals, etc. To me, this gym feels like one enormous room, whereas Downtown feels more intimate, with a variety of areas and rooms. Of course Downtown also has a pool, which Prospect does not (although I don’t swim). It seems that management took a lesson from Downtown and included more mirrors at Prospect. For me, the main drawback of Prospect is the sauna and the steam room, which are both half the size of Downtown’s. I’m at the gym seven days a week and use the sauna every day. The one at prospect feels tiny, and can only seat three people on the top bench, with an option for a 4th on a lower bench (which is sort of worthless). Further, the lights in the sauna can’t be turned off as they can Downtown. The lights are also a weird cool white that’s sort of annoying. There’s also no option to add water to the sauna rocks. In fact, there’s a sign saying it’s not permitted. Downtown allows water on the rocks, which is key. The steam room is nice, but it’s also small. If this were any other gym, it would be awesome, but when paying heavy $ to be a Chelsea member, I’d expect a bit more. The locker room is spacious, but I like the layout of the room at the Downtown location better—there’s a bit more privacy and it feels like the space is just more efficient. The showers at Prospect are about 30% smaller than Downtown (I don’t think it matters cause they’re still pretty large). Of course the maintenance is pristine, as you should expect. But the shower heads at Prospect are EPIC. The pressure is outrageous to the point that the water actually stings when you set the head to high pressure. It generates a breeze, no joke. 6 stars for the shower heads. Also the Mallin + Goetz shampoo/ conditioner/ body wash dispensers at Prospect are better than Downtown’s (but really, who cares?). Of course the staff is very friendly and accommodating, one of the hallmarks of Chelsea (and frankly something you should expect when you pay so much $). In general, for me I feel that there’s more value in the Downtown location, but I’m sure that many people will like Prospect.

However, the member services is awful. They expect you to sign a 1-yr contract for $2,500+ per year without allowing you to workout with even a 1 day trial. They can increase the rate at any time mid-contract even though you are locked-in to a contract (which they did 3 months in). They offered to switch my membership from the downtown Brooklyn location, but even as a paying member STILL wouldn’t let me workout there even once without paying the ridiculous $60 day pass fee (which they say they would only waive if I joined).

I’m confused as to why we are paying the same at every location. I just transferred from the downtown BK location that has many more amenities and much more space and still paying the same amount. This location is giving college gym vibes. Really disappointing.

Recently I took a tour of the Chelsea Piers Dean St location. I want to give some advice to others who are considering signing up, which is my focus in this review of sorts.
1) Get a blank copy of the contract and read it CAREFULLY, ideally at home. Don't let yourself be rushed into joining, even if a $250 voucher is expiring that day.
2) When reading the contract, pay particular attention to what you need to do, and in some cases the financial penalties incurred, when canceling your membership. Also note that any unused sessions which you paid for in advance, such as Personal Training, are not refundable, so use it before you leave.
2) Make sure the price you were told, is the price that appears on any papers you sign. Don't rely on any verbal promises.
3) Note also that the contract gives Chelsea Piers Fitness unrestricted rights to any photographic image of you, and any children you might bring with you.
4) Ask what is NOT included in the membership, and the cost.
5) Ask to see the current schedule of yoga classes, and any other activities that may be of interest to you, before you sign up.
Bottom line: Caveat emptor.

I signed up as a founding member ($190 a month) at their new prospect heights location and was given 7 days to cancel if the gym was not the right fit. I ended up not liking the gym after trying it once because I had an extremely negative experience with a random member there. I went to the gym in person to cancel within the 7 day window, but was asked to come back another day. I returned again in person to the gym and was then asked to email member services. I did email member services, but Francine from member services said now my request to cancel was outside of the 7 day window. After fighting tooth and nail they eventually said they will not refund the ~$380 I already paid and that I had to pay 2 more months (an additional +$380) in order to cancel my membership. They charged me $760 in order to try the gym once. This place is a scam and has extremely shady billing practices. If you never have an issues with the gym and pay your monthly fee every month and never use the gym, then you'll be fine. However, if you ever need to cancel your membership or need to talk to anyone about billing, then everyone sits on their hands while you get passed around from person to person. It felt like people were just waiting for me to get tired of the runaround. It was extremely difficult to get anyone from billing to call me back! I'm not sure why this business feels the need to be scammy? The facilities are beautiful, but I would be weary of this place if you care about quality of service at all. But if you're cool paying ~$2500 a year for this gym and you know that you're locked in, then go for it. Just know that they will get that $2500 from you no matter what. I would also read your contract really carefully. They charge you 3 months if you want to cancel your membership for any reason. The reviews on BBB are similar to mine. They completely lied to me when they said I could cancel within the first 7 day window.

This is an amazing gym!
Love the space, staff and classes. Tons of equipment plus the steam and sauna were a great post workout feature!
Plus there is an outdoor patio to chill!
If you live in central BK then this is where you need to work out!

I’ve been a member for a while and generally it’s a good gym. However, if you’re paying to use the steam room or sauna you shouldn’t count on it working. There is a consistent issue with it working properly or at all. For the number of days this location has been open, I would say that the sauna and steam room have functioned for less than half. In addition to its consistent malfunction, when the sauna is on, it’s not actually hot. Major disappointment, especially since the price point includes those amenities that are consistently out of service.

Put simply, the club is amazing. And huge! The fact that a facility like this exists in New York City is such a treat. The hot yoga studio is like an oasis from the city, the steam/sauna/locker room is immaculate, and the coworking space/private call booths allows for a real home away from home, especially as a fully remote worker with no office to go to anymore!

My partner and I booked an appointment for 11:30am. Staff was running late which is cool. We wait it’s until noon then they told us it would be another 20 minutes. We said we’ll be back for some coffee we’re back in 10 and they gave the appointment to someone else ? Staff was super unprofessional and I empathetic. What’s the point of an appointment?

Wildly disappointing. Only one yoga studio which means hot and regular is in the same area. Going to be miserable. Terrible layout in the class so you can’t see the instructors half the time. Huge screens on the side which showed soothing images and ads. Don’t love watching ads in Pilates. The main floor has everything squashed together so peak hours will be miserable. But half the second floor is coworking and empty space which is a complete waste. The sauna has less space for sitting despite being pretty large. The cleaning gear is also stored by the sauna so you have to walk by dirty mops to get to it. This is definitely the discount location.

Just stopped by on their opening day. The renderings truly don’t do it justice! A great addition to the neighborhood; clean and spacious facilities and great staff.
