I’ve been trying to cancel my membership for two weeks now. I’ve filled out the form. I’ve called. They sent me the form again. I called again. They said someone named Veronica is gonna email me. Haven’t heard from anyone. Really? In 2025? A luxury gym is gonna behave like this? Awful, awful experience.

notice: for the ladies who like to walk around naked in the women's locker room a couple of weeks ago on Saturday around 3:00 pm I sat on the toilet immediately after I could see a phone with the camera on under the wall that divides the bathrooms I immediately went out to confront the woman but she totally ignored me I went out to report her but no one was at reception so everything stayed there but this Sunday the 3rd approximately 8:30 9:00 am there she was again taking pictures of a lady who works in cleaning the lady was cleaning the benches on her knees while the woman in question was taking pictures laughing at her the question is who is her supervisor do they know this? by the way this Sunday I was able to hear that her name is Rosa she is a woman with short hair and short stature

I have been coming here for about a year and it’s been the best gym I’ve ever been a member of. Can’t say enough great things about the staff- everyone from the front desk and cleaners to the trainers are awesome, so nice and amazing at their jobs. I’ve tried lots of classes including spin, yoga, amp’d and more and all have been extremely good and there are plenty of options that work with my schedule. The facility itself is clean and well-maintained with enough equipment that you don’t have to wait for anything very long even during the peak hours. I am moving soon and sadly have to find a new gym, but the cancelation process here was extremely smooth and easy.

I recently canceled my membership at Chelsea Piers, a gym I had been a member of for four years. I wanted to share my honest feedback on the gym.

I thoroughly enjoyed taking classes here. Being part of a group setting helped me adhere to my workout schedule and motivated me to work harder. The trainers are generally friendly, and my favorites are Declan and Alicia.

Every year, they conduct a survey, and for the past three years, I’ve consistently requested more 35-pound dumbbells. I patiently waited, hoping they would eventually fulfill my request. However, each year that passed, they raised their rates, and I would persistently ask if they could order more 35-pound dumbbells. Despite my requests, they only had four pairs available.

Sometimes, I would arrive thirty minutes before class, only to find that there were no 35s. I would have to run around the entire gym to find a pair, all while paying their increasingly higher rates. I wasn’t asking for a squat rack or an expensive machine; I was simply asking for basic equipment, but my requests were consistently ignored. They still haven’t gotten more dumbbells; the most basic piece of equipment at a gym all the while charging 250+.

Anytime I’ve emailed the gym, they’ve completely ignored me. This final situation was the first time they responded, and the way it was handled was completely unprofessional. Ian initially stated that they had five sets of 35-pound dumbbells. However, the manager of the gym doesn’t seem to know what equipment they have; there are four. Then he said they don’t have the budget to order more dumbbells until next year. This is a multi-million dollar corporation that opens new outlets each year, so that answer isn’t valid. One set of dumbbells is 100$-200$. Justine then announced at my next group class that they had ordered more dumbbells—10s, 12s, and 35s. However, she said, “The dumbbells are on back order because that’s just the way the fitness world works.” This later proved to be completely fabricated. Veronica told me nothing has been ordered. Why lie?

I waited about a month after Justine’s “announcement” and still received no new bells. After three years of persistent requests, I spoke to each trainer, manager, and persons at the desk, I was still denied a simple request; dumbbells. It’s disheartening to realize that my membership is not valued, even after spending well over $10,000 during my time at the gym.

I genuinely enjoyed this gym because of my friendships there. However, if I can’t be respected and valued, I’ll unfortunately have to spend my money elsewhere.

I've been coming for a year and overall had a great experience at this gym—huge credit to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff across the board. The front desk team is always warm and welcoming. Special shout-out to Max, who goes out of his way to help with bookings, questions, and anything else—he’s a real standout and sets the tone for the whole space.

The cleaning staff keeps everything spotless, and the class instructors are generally motivating and high-energy.

I also want to give a very specific highlight to Greg, one of the personal trainers here. Greg brings unmatched energy, challenge, and growth-focused coaching to every session. He knows how to push you the right way, is super intentional with programming, and genuinely cares about helping his clients get stronger—not just physically, but mentally too. The best part of his coaching is he listens and adaptation to your needs and how you're body is that day, and when it gets hard, he's beyond encouraging and you'd breakthrough boundaries you thought you had quickly and safely! If you're looking for someone to help you level up, I highly recommend training with Greg!!!

The massage services are great as well—professional, restorative, and a perfect complement to training. Booking can be a quote challenging however.

One quick note: online booking and communication can sometimes be hit or miss, others no one consistently helping you, and I've definitely got attitude for pointing out how confusing it is, so I’d recommend visiting or calling in person for the fastest and most accurate info.

And a small piece of feedback: in some yoga classes, the instructions can move a little too fast or aren’t always clearly audible, especially when a lot of jargon is used. It might help to label the classes by level (beginner, intermediate, etc.) and offer clearer cues or modifications so everyone can follow confidently.

All in all, an awesome gym with great people, clean and energized space!

PLEASE READ THIS. WARNING FOR ALL WOMEN:

I’ve been a member of Chelsea Piers for almost two years, and my experience was good for the most part until what happened on Tuesday, June 24th. I want to make sure others are aware of the problems before deciding to join this gym.

On that day, I walked into the sauna and was shocked to see a man lying there with a towel covering his face, but not covering his lower body. His male anatomy was fully visible, and I was taken completely off guard. I had no idea at the time that he identified as a woman — all I saw was a man in a women’s space, exposed in a way that is completely inappropriate. I was in disbelief that something like this could happen in a place where women expect to have privacy.

I went to the front desk to raise the issue, and it was only then that I was told this person identifies as a woman. And i was also told that i'm not the first person raising this issue and there is nothing they can do about it which is even more concerning. Chelsea Piers never communicated their updated policy about allowing people to use facilities based on their gender identity. This change was made at the end of last year, but no one told me, and I was never given the option to make an informed decision about whether I wanted to be in that kind of environment. Before I joined the gym in 2022, I explicitly asked about the policy on gender-neutral bathrooms, and I was told they were not gender-neutral — that was one of the reasons I chose Chelsea Piers in the first place.

This lack of communication is concerning, not just from a privacy standpoint, but also as a safety issue for women and children. Women should be able to use the facilities in a safe and comfortable environment, without the worry of being exposed to situations that make them feel uneasy or violated. This is especially important when children are involved, as they need to feel secure in these spaces too.

The worst part came when I spoke to the General Manager. He was completely nonchalant about the whole situation and didn’t even offer an apology for what I experienced. It was clear he didn’t care at all. When I asked to cancel my membership, he quickly agreed, almost as if he was relieved to get rid of me. It was so disrespectful and hurtful, especially considering I’ve been a loyal member for almost two years.

Women who value their privacy, or who have personal concerns about safety in shared spaces, should be informed up front about these changes. I should have been made aware of the new policy before walking into the gym, so I could decide whether to continue using the facilities. Chelsea Piers has failed to communicate this properly, and they have shown no effort to address my concerns.

I’m truly disappointed with how I’ve been treated, and I want other women to know that if you don’t want to share a bathroom or sauna with someone whose gender identity doesn’t align with your values, or if you have concerns about privacy and safety, you may want to think twice before signing up here. This gym does not respect your boundaries, and the management’s response makes it clear they don’t care.

I recommend CPF to friends on a regular basis. This is a straightforward, clean, and well maintained gym with a plethora of equipment that can support so many different approaches to fitness. I have been happy when I’m in a lifting phase, happy when I’m looking for weight loss/cardio, or just yoga. For me, what makes the gym special and the membership price ‘worth it’ are the classes that come with membership. There is obviously a very high standard for the instructors and trainers they hire. I have been consistently impressed with the hot yoga flow and hot yoga athletic roster — these are some of the best yoga instructors I’ve ever had. Attentive, very knowledgeable, and challenge the physical body. The kettlebell and strength / conditioning classes are good too, especially as supplements to an existing workout routine or if you want to learn new skills. The vast majority of the clientele are very respectful and supportive, keep to themselves and serious about fitness. I enjoy the atmosphere a lot. If you’re looking for a gym in NYC that is straightforward, clean, versatile, and approachable, this is the one.

For the price of the gym, the equipment needs an upgrade. If you call yourself a luxury gym and state of the art equipment maybe look into getting a few Glute Builder Machines. They don't even had a glute squat machine, or RDL Hammer strength machine. The other day I saw someone get out of the pool and started to do leg press with on the machine upstairs all wet, super disgusting. Word of advice upgrade your equipment do some research of what luxury gym is and properly train your staff with the proper customer service.

Despite the gym's attractive appearance, the equipment is in poor condition, with visible wear and cleanliness issues. I nearly experienced a fall on the treadmill. The classes were average. My primary concern stems from the front desk staff's behavior. The lack of welcome and the rudeness were compounded by overhearing extremely inappropriate conversations. As a biracial woman, I was shocked and disturbed by the discriminatory comments made by the staff member, who also identified herself as the manager. These comments targeted Black men and Latina women and included negative remarks about her coworkers. This behavior is unacceptable and creates a hostile environment. I strongly urge Chelsea Piers to address the equipment's condition and implement comprehensive hospitality and diversity training, or consider replacing the staff and equipment entirely.

I've had memberships at a number of "luxury" gyms in both California and New York. CPF takes the cake. Not only does it have all the amenities, classes, and services you could want, but the staff and management go above and beyond to make every member feel like they're part of the Chelsea Piers community. An unpretentious yet elite fitness facility.

Honestly, soooo many things wrong with this gym. Facilities are pretty nice but they fall short on service. Reallyyyyy shitty staff. Classes aren't that great. Just not worth $230. You need to be in that gym every day to make that price make sense. But it definitely gets crowded, people never clean the equipment after themselves, it's SO hard to book a massage, really hard to get out of such an expensive membership, they increase the price by like $20/year...

Good facilities. However, giving it 1 star for its AWFUL front desk staff. They’re extremely rude, unfriendly, hostile, and are always bothered when I ask questions about the gym’s facilities + always replying with attitude. For the steep price of $240 members pay monthly, you’d expect CPF to hire competent staff with friendly demeanors that will make members feel welcome. A total shame and a waste.

This is like the stepchild of all the Chelsea gyms in NYC. The equipment needs an update and most of the instructors are mid, there are only 4 or 5 good ones in the whole bunch. Too bad, it has the potential to be great, but for this price they are really taking advantage of the name.

The facilities are fine but they will lie to get you to sign up and then refuse to cancel your membership.

I was promised a 250 usd gift card to sign up, it never happened.
I was assured that I could cancel at any point, that I just needed to give a 45 days notice. Now they say that that’s only possible after a year as a member. I cannot cancel unless I’m relocated or with a doctors note.
They will also charge you extra 30 USD for the Pilates classes if you manage to book one.

Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else

Summary: good value, but not as high-end an experience as Equinox Brooklyn Heights

Switched here from Equinox Brooklyn Heights because it was a little closer and seemed to be essentially the same but with more amenities (pool, coworking space, smoothie and sandwich bar). However after being here for a few weeks, I see it’s not quite the seamless, high-end experience I took for granted at Equinox. For example some equipment is rusty and in need of replacement, I had to switch showers because the first one I tried was out of soap, I left my workout gloves and they were stolen (happened a couple times at Equinox and they always were brought to the lost and found), plus some equipment I assumed they would have, they don’t.

Again, I think it’s definitely the better value (it’s about the same price), just not as excellent an experience. I’ll be switching back to Equinox as soon as my one year is up

I've been a member at Chelsea Piers Fitness for a while now, and I can't recommend it enough! The facility is truly amazing—spacious, clean, and well-equipped with everything you could possibly need for a great workout. Whether you're into cardio or strength training, you'll find tons of equipment to choose from.

The turf spaces are perfect for interval workouts and mobility exercises, offering plenty of room to move and stretch. The variety of classes available is impressive, catering to all fitness levels and interests. And after a tough workout, the sauna, steam room, and pool provide the perfect way to unwind and relax.

One thing that really stands out is how clean and well-maintained the entire facility is, from the locker rooms to the common areas. The member events are a nice bonus too, creating a sense of community and making the gym experience even more enjoyable.

But what really makes Chelsea Piers Fitness special is the staff—they're always friendly, welcoming, and ready to help with anything you need. It truly feels like a place where everyone is focused on helping you achieve your fitness goals in a positive and supportive environment.

I have been a member of this gym for just over a year now. My membership is now month-to-month and I am staying on not because I have to anymore, but because I want to! It is $220/mo.

Extremely clean gym with all the equipment you can think of. It does get very busy at peak hours so I have to adapt my schedule/workout type to accommodate that. I don't think you'd be able to find a gym anywhere near downtown Brooklyn that isn't crowded at 5pm though. And I have never had had to wait for a cardio machine -- there's soo many treadmills, stairmasters, and bikes!

I have only taken a few classes but had great experiences at all of them. I have also found the other gym-goers to be very courteous and respectful, which makes the atmosphere so much better and imo makes me go to the gym more as I don't have any anxiety about going here.

There is plenty of lounge seating so it makes it easier to fit in a workout during a workday, knowing I can immediately hop on or off my computer.

Update 4/17/24: I cancelled back in Covid in part because I moved, in part because they kept raising the prices. Being that I’m back, I was considering rejoining because I did enjoy my time there. I convinced my husband to rejoin later in the month. I saw an email about an open house which included a tour and a free workout from 5-7 but noticed I wouldn’t get there in time. I called and spoke with Max at 7:25pm to see if I could still come for the workout, and he said there was no one from the sales team to give the tour but I could still come for the workout. I excitedly hurried home to change and workout. When I arrived at CPF Max was gone, and Jay was there. When I told Jay I was there for the open house workout and told him about Max & my conversation, Jay said that even though he overheard our conversation he completely doubted it. He looked at me like I was lying, said he was never told the open house included a workout EVEN though I showed him the email I received showing it would, and said I would have to pay for a day pass. He emailed his supervisors and as I stood there waiting, I asked if he thought he’d hear back soon to which he replied unlikely as management has left. Had I not asked, who knows how long I would waited. I left.

The Chelsea piers fitness I used to experience had kind, friendly staff that always made me feel welcome. Based on this interaction I’m concerned about the lack of communication of the current staffing and in particular, the way Jay spoke to me. If this is how I’m treated, how would other guests be treated? How would members be treated? I understand honest mistakes can happen, but this was someone completely assuming negative intent in me. As my husbands membership hasn’t started yet and we’re very disconcerted by this experience, he might be exploring alternative gym options.

Previous review: Great classes, great people, excellent facilities.

This gym has transformed my approach to fitness! One of the biggest advantages for me is the diverse range of classes offered. No more running between different studios! I can enjoy cardio, hot yoga, spin, and strength training all in one place. This variety keeps my workouts engaging and allows me to target different areas.

What sets this gym apart is that it's more than just a fitness center—it's become a true "third place" for me. The co-working space is great, when I need a change of scenery when I am working at home. I haven't yet participated in the social activities, but I appreciate knowing they're happening and seem well-attended. Not to mention, I love relaxing in the sauna when I have the time.

The staff is always friendly, attentive, and many of them know my name. Their commitment to creating a positive experience for everyone is evident. Additionally, the cleanliness of the gym is outstanding, which gives me peace of mind when using the equipment.

Despite decent facilities, this gym falls short with its member services, particularly when canceling memberships. Crowding is also a major issue, making peak times less than ideal for visits. My attempt to cancel my membership due to moving was met with inflexibility and unexpected fees, courtesy of Veronica from the member services team, who cited fine print to justify extra charges. This approach to customer service, focusing on extracting fees rather than accommodating members, significantly detracts from the gym's appeal. Given these experiences, I cannot recommend this gym.

I came to this gym today via a friend's guest pass. I get around on an e-wheel, and have done so for the last 4 years. I'm very active within the city, going to restaurants, retail stores, gyms, bookstores, cafes, etc, but today was the first time in those 4 years that I was told I had to leave my wheel outside.

No one in their right mind would leave such an expensive thing that could easily be carried off on a NYC street (locked or otherwise), so to me, I was effectively being told to leave the gym, after already using the guest pass.

More and more people are using personal electric vehicles as their primary mode of transportation, so they need to come up with an actual solution, like every other business in NY has, because this isn't something that's going away.

Decent facilities but keep in mind that it is as crowded as a Crunch or Planet Fitness despite the $200+ membership because it's inundated with a ton of people paying half price because they live in the building above it.

And then they have the audacity to raise monthly fees by *another* $10/mo while having their pool, steam room, and sauna broken for months on end over this last year, and no material improvements to justify the price increase. Bizarre.

I guess they're happy just being a building gym for the residences above it instead of a "luxury gym". 🙄

Being a member here definitely stretches my budget, but I wouldn't give it up for the world. I use it almost exclusively for the pool; post-COVID, we can still book lanes, which is enormously useful in terms of time management. The front desk and pool staff are helpful and friendly, and the workspace in front is a great place to get work done in a light-drenched, comfortable environment. The locker rooms are sparkling clean, and having robes/towels/shampoo etc. available makes a visit really convenient. I've been a member since it opened, and I love it.

Chelsea Fitness Downtown offers a truly inviting experience, from the warm welcome at the entrance to the skilled chef at the Canteen kitchen, their commitment to exceptional customer service stands out. This establishment proves to be a valuable investment for me, especially in terms of my mental well-being. Stepping into this gym feels like entering a second home, where a plethora of activities and a team of knowledgeable staff and trainers are readily available to assist you in achieving your fitness goals. Access to the equipment you need is swift and efficient, and there's a sense of non-judgmental camaraderie. Having previously been a member at Planet Fitness, I can confidently say that Chelsea Fitness Downtown represents a significant upgrade, especially for those of us looking to enhance our lifestyle.

I have watched this place steadily go downhill over the past four years. Yet somehow, my membership price keeps increasing. Even though i've gone through my email and haven't seen any notifications of a price increase. I now somehow pay $230 a month. Although my membership price increased, the experience has drastically decreased. There is now no longer a sauna or pool. I have called several times over the past few weeks asking what's going on. They have continuously told me they're going to send an email out with an explanation. I'm still waiting.

I have been going to this gym for years and it was okay. it has it perks and down sides but lately this location has go down to the ground. They recently closed their pool indefinitely without any indication of reopening the pool. The pool is literally the only thing I ever use at this location. They do not want to take any ownership for their mistakes but blame it on me. I have movement disabilities and told them that I cannot make it to the location in the city. the manager, Francine, laughed at me and made fun of me for even thinking about asking for a refund for this period. So I caved, asked her nicely if she can pause my membership until the pool is available. she refused and wants to charge me additional $30 for this. if this happens to me, I am sure it will happen to you. be aware and report this manager, Francine, to the corporate. She is a horrible and rude person

The gym overall is nice - good equipment and lots of space.

The member services is just awful. They expect you to sign a 1-yr contract for $2,500+ per year without allowing you to workout with even a 1 day trial. They can increase the rate at any time mid-contract even though you are locked-in to a contract (which they did 3 months in). The new Prospect Heights gym just opened and they offered to switch my membership but even as a paying member STILL wouldn’t let me workout there even once without paying the ridiculous $60 day pass fee (which they say they would only waive if I joined).

When I signed up I got a $200/month rate and I think the value CP provides meets that if you’re into classes. You are able to take an unlimited amount which is unheard of for this price in the city. Very clean although the showers can get a little clogged during the after-work rush. The classes and locker room alone make the price worth it for me but they have a lot of other extras like Pelotons, babysitting, etc. Great gym.

There are many kind, professional, thorough gym teachers at CP-Brooklyn. Mike M (pilates), Emily A (barre), Adriane (pilates), Roger (full body), Declan (full body), Regan (pilates), Juliana (core + barre), Tommy B (pilates) Joe B (full body) and more! Front desk makes an attempt to say hello and good-bye.

Canteen (the eatery) has friendly staff. The burrito looks amazing. Next time! Kind worker offered me a free sample of the coffee: delicious!

Update 1/18
Gym added classes that require masks. They state the mask requirement on the app so it's clearly communicated. Gym could still do more to protect their instructors and staff. But could be the only gym in Bk that has classes which require mask wearing.

Old review
Not a place to work out these days. Leaders do not generate trust or say what they mean. Its website says "safety first" however the gym does not require masks even though there is a spike of Covid in NYC. If you care about your health and the safety of those around you choose another place.

I’ve been a member for a few years and I used to recommend it to everyone but the gym has sharply declined in recent months. Chelsea Piers boasts impressive square footage but it’s so over-subscribed and poorly laid out you can hardly move an inch without bumping into someone. They recently reorganized to reserve even more space for classes and moved all the weights to a single section downstairs, which makes it feel like a Planet Fitness or a Blink (albeit an order of magnitude more expensive). The machines (especially the Pelotons) are frequently broken; if you manage to get the machine you want, you’ll feel rushed by someone lurking behind you waiting for their turn. I used to enjoy the locker room but nowadays it’s frustratingly crowded: you’re hard-pressed to find a locker and then have to wait in line for a shower, which is likely covered in hair and little black flies.

I really like the gym, but the new setup with all the weights crammed into the downstairs area is just not ideal. As others have said it is starting to feel like a blink. There are no mirrors in the weightlifting area and it is hard to move in the space. I feel like the gym is getting taken over by spaces for classes.

Too many people during busy hour and the gym is now super cramped with all the machines in one place downstairs ( looking like Planet Fitness/Blink). Canceling under 12 months requires you to forfeit your "last month deposit". When you first register, it's $400 total upfront: 200 for the first month and 200 for the last month. The guy giving me a tour when I signed said, "you can cancel anytime and that last month payment will go towards your final month". On the phone now when I cancelled, the lady at the front desk said this wasn't the case. She said you have to pay this month, next month, and sacrifice your last month due. I told her, "the guy giving me the tour said that would go to my last month. I remember that specifically bc I asked." She also said, I can send you a copy of your contract if you forgot. Haha really? This practice is deceptive and disgusting. Why lie? Are you desperate for that extra $200? Tell the truth upfront! For any future customers, if you're not confident you can commit for the full 12 months, don't sign here. Read over your contract regardless what your guy tells you because they'll hold that over ur head and lie about it.

Edit: so the contract actually says you forfeit your final month deposit AND you pay 2 months fee. So u pay $600 for canceling. The representatives Zaheer and Latoya verbally told me you only need to give them 45 days heads up. That's it. So I signed without reading the contract. I must be an idiot for trusting them. Would I have signed if your representatives didn't lie? Deceptive and disgusting.

Things I love - amazing locker space. Rob's boxing class is amazing and so is Melora's spin class. Great setup for all the classes. Really nice to not have to lug around your yoga mat or boxing gloves.

Things I don't love - you can only sign up for classes 24 hours in advance, which is just super tedious, because that means everyday you need to log on to sign up. The app is also super buggy (you can't filter to hide swim classes for example, and you can't filter for certain instructors.)

Something that was super frustrating and is important for everyone to know - if you want to cancel you have to let them know before the 15th of the previous month. Otherwise, you end up having to pay an extra month. (For example, let's say you're moving out at the end of July. If you tell them July 19, you will end up having to pay through August.) They wouldn't budge on that, and now I have to pay for a month where I'm not even in the city. Definitely leaves a bad taste in your mouth, and you wonder, what's the point of that.

A separate turf area for athletic workouts with multiple sleds and kettle bells. Separate dumbbell area that is also turf with DBs up to 150 pounds. Plenty of ellipticals including sprint ellipticals and Peletons. Locker rooms are clean and modern. The gym is pricey but blows competition out of the water. I’ve been charged twice after successfully filling out my cancellation form (which they confirmed !)

they lied about the nature of my

Gym: 5/5 (nice amenities, clean equipment)
Workout classes: 4/5 (lots of diff classes)
Pool: 3/5 (circle swimming with 2-3 people in 1 lane, always a waitlist)
Coworking space: 2/5

The gym sold me on the membership because of the coworking space (I don’t live close by so I joined on the premise I could make the most of my time there with a workout and some work done). However depending on your luck, the wifi is unusable and staff doesn’t respond to emails. I’ve had to Uber & rush home multiple occasions after a workout because the wifi on the computer is so poor. The lack of acknowledgment from multiple emails to mgmt (yet they selectively respond to positive reviews here), the original sales pitch of the coworking space, one year membership, and the amount of stress & unpredictable wifi have lead to a bad experience for me that I’m trying to shake off. I’d give it 1 star but to be fair to avid gym goers who don’t need the coworking part, the gym itself is great.

UPDATE: They reached out and agreed to cancel my membership after this review. Will give a star back for that. Hope that in the future, they are up front about the 12 month minimum—regardless of what it says in the contract, the right thing to do is tell people the headline terms (but at the very least, they need to give the correct information when asked).

Horrible, lying people. When I signed up, I knew I was likely to move out of the neighborhood in the next few months, and I specifically asked the sales rep what the cancellation policy was, as it was the single most important point in choosing a gym. He assured me they were super flexible, and that I could always cancel on 45 days’ notice. Fast forward four months, and I have since moved… and they are refusing to cancel, saying that I agreed to a 12-month minimum. When I pointed out that there was no reason why I would have agreed to a 12-month minimum with a gym four blocks away when I was actively looking to move out of the neighborhood (and, in fact, had gone directly from my first visit to the gym to an open house), Francine (the customer service representative) insisted that I must have been told about the minimum, essentially calling me a liar.

Rather than trying to find a workable solution, Francine helpfully suggested that I could reorganize my entire daily routine for the next eight months to revolve around going to Chelsea Piers Fitness, and noted that people travel from all over Brooklyn to visit their gym. Hard pass.

Would also note that she did not seem the least bit concerned that her sales reps could be peddling false information to get people to sign up. Would avoid this gym like the plague, unless you love 12-month minimums!

I joined this gym around 3 months ago and it’s been a great experience. Very clean and spacious with great equipment and trainers. My guests always have a great time when they join for free events/classes.

I love restorative yoga class on Sunday and would love to see it offered more than once a week — it would be a great late weeknight class! I also love the recent addition of dance classes. I would never miss a rare hip hop class with Rivkins and I wish it was offered regularly!

A big selling point for me joining this gym was the “coworking space” since I work from home. The space is beautiful and comfortable, but unfortunately the wifi is slow to the point it’s unusable and I usually give up and leave. I would love to see them improve the wifi to turn this into a real coworking space.

Overall a great gym, especially if you can join during a special/discount!

Edit: probably one of the best gyms in NY.

I was shopping between Equinox and Chelsea Piers but went for CP. New machines, great additions like Peloton and Mirror. Plenty of space and they are taking good precautions for COVID. Happy about the free masks as well! I feel safe and am lucky to be able to work out in this environment during these times. Spotless clean! I recently started using their co-working space and it's even more bang for the money in my opinion. I work from home, and it's nice to be able to bring your laptop and have a change of scenery, get some snacks and a drink at Bluestone Lane. Wonderful smoothies! The transition for working and going straight to your workout is awesome.

It’s never too crowded, which can be a COVID situation, but I love that I never have to wait for equipment, machines, or in someone’s space. they use Malin + Goetz products in the showers which I am thrilled about as I use these types of products at home. If you’re spending that membership for an “Equinox” quality gym, you want those products. Alas, do we really sign up for gyms for their grooming products? I mean, I was kind of swayed by all the Kiehls at Equinox.

Ps- I just want to note the maintenance ladies here are the sweetest warmest people you’ll ever meet! One time like an idiot I forgot where I locked my things and the lady helped open each and every locker for me to help me find my things, truly kind. I think the gym is lucky to have them.

Pps- I saw a previous review of a complaint of them switching up the Malin + Goetz products and I immediately noticed it right away. At first, I was really upset because why use the bottles it's like false advertising, you simply don't do that. The facilities lady showed me the new brand they use, and I looked it up and its equally just as nice and quality, but not the big name brand so I'm okay with it. But please change your bottles if you're not going to be using M+G!

Overall quality of the gym is hands down 5 stars! The staff is super friendly, the bathrooms are really clean, and the towels are always soft. I'm only leaving 3-stars because I just left a 7am hot yoga class that was absolutely terrible. The instructor seemed nice but she played drake rap music, Ella mai, lauryn hill and really loud music. During hot yoga at 7am. I could not concentrate or get grounded. NYC is already so, so busy and chaotic I feel like I come to yoga to quiet the mind and calm my breath. She was trying to speak over the music and I couldn't even hear her. I couldn't hear my own thoughts. It felt like torture. When I signed up for the class it didn't mention any music and it also said a different instructor was teaching the class. It said Jason M. but Michelle Schwartz actually taught it. Again amazing instructor but I don't think she read the room very well. It was way too hot and too early to be blasting rap music first thing in the morning. Absolutely terrible.

This is the best gym I’ve ever belonged to. I was a “founding member” as I joined before they opened and have been there ever since.

Clean. Wonderfully spaced out. Pool. Great staff. Plenty of equipment!
