CrossFit Hell’s Kitchen is hands down one of the best boxes I’ve ever dropped into. Tom and the members immediately make you feel welcome, and the programming is top-notch. In a city as big and busy as NYC, finding a little slice of belonging in the CrossFit community means everything—and this place delivers. The supportive atmosphere, great coaching, and well-rounded workouts make it stand out.

On top of that, the gym has all the extras you might need—clothes, shoes, FitAid, protein shakes—making it your one-stop shop. If you’re in NYC and looking for a CrossFit home or just visiting, this will be your best find!

Dropped in for the week whilst visiting family in NYC. Great atmosphere and vibe at this gym, coaches are lovely humans and very welcoming, happy to have a chat, give recs for things to eat and do around the city! They also stock TYR shoes and other gear in case you need! They follow the PRVN programming, so sessions are top notch!

I visited CrossFit Hell’s Kitchen during a week visit to NYC and it is one of the nicest boxes I’ve been to. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, coaches, staff and the other members. There are a lot of drop ins so they’re used to people coming from all over the world. I got great support from the coaches who even took time out to help me with my technique. If I lived in NYC that would definitely be my personal box but for anyone visiting the city please don’t miss out and come to this one! Thank you so much for having me!

not a gym member but this was 100% the #1 shoe purchasing experience i've had. needed lifting shoes and this was the only place in the city that physically had them in the store! called the number and tom (owner) texted me a time to come by, fitted me with a pair of lifting shoes, and even let me barbell squat in them!

10/10 customer service, will definitely check this place out first if i ever get into crossfit

1000% my home away from home gym. This is the second time I've been there and both have been fantastic experiences. And great example below!

My hotel was in a different spot this visit so I actually called or tried to coordinate with three other CrossFit gyms in the city see a different space - and also was asking to do a half marathon row alongside everybody else doing Murph because of a knee injury. The others were only slightly welcoming and not completely eager to accommodate. I totally get that there's a limited amount of space and this is a favored workout so there would be a lot of people, but it was more of the spirit difference.

When I sent the same question to Crossfit Hell's kitchen they were big w open arms and significant welcoming w eagerness to have me join, plus they were the only one of all of them that had no cost to the drop in for the memorial day workout. They had food they had a sideline business that brought energy drinks, and it was just a great community feel. Plus as an example to the consistent community I actually got to see and say hello to two of the gym members that I had done a partner workout with the first time I visited!

I'll never go anywhere else when I'm in town!

CrossFit Hell’s Kitchen is a gem in the city — an absolute standout in every way. From the second you step inside, you’re greeted with a welcoming atmosphere that feels both high-energy and deeply personal. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows your name and is genuinely invested in your progress.

The coaches here are nothing short of phenomenal — accomplished, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Whether you’re new to CrossFit or a seasoned athlete, they know exactly how to tailor the experience to meet you where you are and challenge you to grow. Their passion is contagious, and their guidance is world-class.

The facility is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need — top-quality gear, smart layout, and an energy that keeps you coming back. They offer In-Body scans to track your progress with precision, and provide expert advice on how to optimize your training both in and out of the gym.

What really impressed me is how well they’ve thought through nutrition and supplementation. Whether you need fuel before, during, or after your workout, they’ve got you covered with trusted products and helpful guidance. It’s not just about holistic fitness — it’s about total performance and long-term health.

CrossFit Hell’s Kitchen isn’t just a gym. It’s a complete support system — for your goals, your lifestyle, and your well-being.

Already looking forward to my next session. No doubt — I’m coming back.

What an incredible home away from home

'everyone is welcome here's is the first thing you'll see in the gym window with a proud pride flag.

Hells kitchen and it's team run by time and his wife are the vehbbest of what CrossFit spaces can be. Community. Heart. And changing life's through pursuit of fitness.

I dropped into hellskitchen for a week whilst in new York for work. Everything was easy dn nothing too much trouble. Simple sign up online. Communicative staff via Instagram. And walked right into open gym to a well equipped gym with two floors and everything you could need

I came in and did my open workout and had an appropriate judge for my score. I was pushed and coached by amazing coaches and I was welcomed with open arms to judge and get involved.

As a CF coach whose travelled all over I was impressed with every staff member. Knowledgeable coaches with Greta values making sure classes scale for the elite and the new.

Tom is a 22 year vet and his knowledge and passion shines through. Whether I was taking a class or pottering around in open gym I could hear him and all his coaches really driving and giving tips to every member

I think seeing on one afternoon and entire class was made up of drops ins from all around the world really shows the testament of the place

I was made to feel welcome by every member and staffer I felt instantly at home and better yet the community itself was like 'its like you've always been here's and I was struck by the members saying this place was where they made friends when the moved to a very lonely city (time and time again)

The beauty of what we do is we can just walk into a gym and have a shared language and suffering as a group for better health

Thank you Tom and the team. Truly need more boxes like this. I'll be recommending to everyone

This box is hands down the best I’ve ever been a part of! I’m here five times a week, and at this point, it feels like home. The coaches are phenomenal—knowledgeable, supportive, and truly invested in every member’s progress. They take great care of the space, ensuring it’s always well-maintained, and they’ve built an incredible community where everyone feels welcome and motivated. If you’re looking for a gym that will challenge you, support you, and keep you coming back for more, this is the place!

I had the pleasure of visiting CrossFit Hell's Kitchen in NYC as a drop-in, and I was absolutely blown away by the experience! From the moment I walked in, the welcoming vibe was evident. The coach was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, ensuring that I understood the proper techniques for every movement. They made me feel comfortable right away, even though I was new to the gym, and I could tell they genuinely cared about everyone’s progress.

The regular members were super friendly, encouraging, and made me feel like part of the community immediately.

If you’re looking for a gym with great coaching, a supportive environment, and a motivating community while in NYC, CrossFit Hell's Kitchen is definitely the place to be. I’ll definitely be back!

Highly recommended.

Dropped in once with Nico coaching in the morning. He’s excellent — patient, clear, attentive, giving constructive feedback throughout the group training. Definitely one of the strongest coaches I’ve ever met around the world. The experience was rewarding.

The regular members were all friendly too. Great vibe.

This CrossFit box is clean and spacious — lots of bars and rigs, with a shower facility and changing room (quite recently renovated or added apparently). Wet wipes and bins available for ppl to wipe things down.

The WODs are clearly shown in the website for ppl to sign up, so you can easily plan ahead depending on your schedule and workout need for the day.

We dropped in after a long day of travel and the owner/coach, Tom, was very welcoming and accommodating. He and his staff are enthusiastic about the place and CrossFit in general. They are working hard to make the place better than they found it. They have lots of drop-ins, so creating a good culture there has got to be tough, but I thought the place was great. Lots of equipment options and they've told us that there's dedicated lifting space downstairs and we're going to check it out tomorrow. The place is far from pristine like some newer gyms, but this has character and a garage gym feel and I love it. Thanks Tom!

I dropped in to CrossFit Hell’s Kitchen while on a girl’s trip to NYC. Tim was quick to reply to my drop-in request, and made sure I had all the information I needed before I showed up. Once there, I got the same treatment I would expect at my home gym. Tim helped me find a good scale for the workout, and pushed me throughout the WOD, just like my coaches back home. Nice enough gym, kinda dirty but good location downtown. Not really friendly or welcoming, but they’re probably burnt out on drop-in athletes? Great facilities and programming, awful environment. I don't know if it was just a bad morning, but this was by far the worst drop in experience I've ever had at a gym. The coach asked for my name when I came in, and after that didn't say a single word to me for the rest of the workout. Not one member or anyone in the building acknowledged me, explained the workout, or walked through the warmup. When the workout was done the coach moved right to the next class without a word. I felt like a ghost while I was there. I'm definitely looking for a different gym next time I'm in town.

1. Very confusing and inefficient reservation and communication process
2. Super rude attitude

Moved back to midtown I was hoping to find a good box to do regular WO. So I filled a form on this box’s website hoping to have a trial class before making my decision.

I do appreciate the first email Anthony sent saying I could come as a guest for a drop in. But i got no reply on my three following emails ( I mailed him on Feb 10th 6pm, 10pm and 11th 11pm) So I came in the gym 10mins earlier of the 830am class hope to get some information and hopefully take the class.

No one was at the reception and Anthony was coaching 5 people. I felt the vibe was kind of lack of energy. But anyway I waited. As it’s almost 830, I approached to Anthony and asked about the class which supposed to start. He said the class is actually every 60mins instead of 30mins showing on his website. So I already missed it. I was very confused so I asked about our previous email communication and the class schedule showing on the website. He became very impatient and asked me to wait. So I kept on waiting.

Later a young lady came in for a beginner trial class. We both waited together for a while. Then Anthony came back to sign her in. I asked him again about my previous signed up through emails. He started to unreasonably blame me on not following process and replied late. And when I further asked a final timeline to confirm my reservation, he started yelling at me that he’s wasting time on me and I’m not even belong to the box....Both me and the new coming young lady was shocked by his rude attitude. I never seen such a rude person before and left right away... and that’s the only true thing he said - I ll never belong to this box.

Again, I appreciated his first email to ask me try out a class as guest. That’s why I emailed couple of times to confirm the time, and proposed to come one day later than my original reservation to let him have more time to process my request. I also came to the gym 10mins earlier of the 830am class hope to allow some time to get clarification. But what I got is ignorance and a horrible yell on!!!

Thinking back, I kind of understand he was stressed as he was the ONLY staff there. The class is ongoing, new people are signing in, there are hundreds of emails piling on reservation/inquiries, and I was there with questions. But the problem is apparently the POOR MANAGEMENT of the box. Adding staff and treating people with manner could be a start to make things better.

I'd give this place zero stars if I could. Was looking for a gym to sign up for for temporary use when on biz travel and ran into this place so thought I'd give it a try. I signed up for the trial class and realized it only included the WOD and not the full typical 1 hr class with the strength portion. I asked to attend the full hour since I'm there anyways. On a reply, an obnoxious guy named Anthony gave a ton of attitude and wanted to confirm I was "proficient" in barbells. I've been to a ton of CrossFit classes and as part of my travels belong to a few gyms from PHX to TOR so yea, a little proficient! Finally he said ok so I was set for the class - annoyed already by the back and forth but nevertheless, set.

Then came class day. One would expect a CrossFit class to be about the community, be welcoming and supportive - that's what CrossFit is about for the most part. This place, not even close. Place was old, run down and people there weren't friendly at all, no community and the class started late bc the previous class went over 10 mins - no organization. Then came the coach, Anthony. This obnoxious guy wasn't fit at all, doesn't look like a coach and of course, gave me attitude bc I didn't grip my snatches wide enough, mocking me saying "I thought you said you were proficient". What a joke of a person, not a coach.

So, this place is not a CrossFit gym and community but rather, just a place where people workout with some guy yelling at you with sloppy disorganized WODs. Having going to dozens of gyms and working out with real crossfitters who participate in the games, this place and especially the coach is a joke.

I am very not the kind of peuple Who complain easily but stopping by Hells Kitchen box was the worst experience we got from a crossfit affiliated box during my 7 years of crossfit. I give here a two stars cos the wod itself was good but no welcome from the headcoach or any questions asked about where we were from or just what was our experience in crossfit to maybe adapt the training!?
No introduction to the wod....to get to know it we had to read it on the tv, we had to go to the coach while the training had already started to ask questions. No warm up but straight to the strenght part!!!!.....
Athlètes came before the wod to pick-up a spot where they get themselves ready. Not even talking to each others or anything.
Everything was so far from what i know of Crossfit spirit in an affiliated box. Coaching was a long and boring monologue.....Well everything felt wrong.....i just hope for this box that started crossfit in 2010....... that i was there on a bad day.

You couldn’t pay me to go to this crossfit gym. Have trained at multiple crossfit gyms for about a year. Never felt so unwelcome. Arrive and ask “hi do you work here.” Employee possibly the owners says unironically, “isn’t it obvious?” Then he proceeds to talk down to me. I let him know that I emailed about the trial class. He tells me they only do those on weekdays, not something it says on the website. Then I ask if he received my email and he says, “no, I’m really good, I respond to every email.” I said, “oh I emailed twice did I get the right email?” Hey tells me he doesn’t care he checks every email. I came to try a class and see if I wanted to go to HK Crossfit. I wouldn’t trust this organization to handle my fitness if my life depended on it. There are far better options in NYC

Update post-owner comment: Owner is one of the rudest people you will ever meet, but more importantly he is unwilling and unable to fix basic issues with his service such as registration. If you look at reviews on Yelp, you can also see that aside from some bizarrely written positive reviews, there are numerous complaints about the type of instruction received and injuries from the classes. Don't go with a third rate instructor who does not listen.

Owner claims I was trying to pull one over on him merely for following the guidance listed on his website regarding trial classes. Have been a member of crossfit gyms for a year paying full freight and really enjoyed the experience. This owner is a poor reflection of crossfit. Other options in the area include Barry's Bootcamp, Equinox, Classpass or on the less expensive end PlanetFitness. Owner is having to offer the classes on Groupon because he has a chip on his shoulder and has mismanaged his business into the ground. This will also make the experience worse for everyone. Yelp and other places have more reviews on this business that show you what type of experience you will get. Don't waste your money!

This was recommended by a friend and even though it wasn't the closest for us (Lexington ave) we walked the 30min every morning to the 7am class and absolutely loved it! First thing I noticed was the programming we fit so much into that hour with weightlifting and metcons we both walked out of there with improved lifts and a PB. Everyone was very welcoming and would 100% go back next time we're in NYC.

I'd been looking for a gym to train for the Spartan Race in NYC. So far the only gyms I've found that qualify are Chelsea Sports Center, Epic Hybrid Training, and CrossFit. I've experienced all, but for me this is the best fit because of the open gym time, high ceiling for rope climbs, class combination of strength and metabolic conditioning, social atmosphere, and of course location. Anthony the owner is often on-site, and both he and the other workers are helpful at guiding you to getting your form right.

Awesome place. Great staff. Unbeatable value. I've had more results here in two weeks than I've had in years at regular gyms.

Great atmosphere, coaching and attitude are the reasons why one of the original Boxes in New York is still going strong! I love it here!

In fast-paced, nobody has time for anything New York City, Crossfit Hell's Kitchen is the type of gym where within a few weeks you have developed camaraderie, have gotten your a** kicked in the best of ways and have challenged yourself to new levels.
By that I mean you are being challenged not only by head coach Anthony (who's obvious passion and dedication push him to coach way more classes than any owner/head coach you'll ever see), but also by other members, who all together form an inclusive, diverse network of gym/box-goers.
Also, coming from an athlete background, with strengths and weaknesses and specific professional goals, CFHK is the type of facility where you can challenge any and all aspects of your fitness, from the more technical ones (lots of much needed attention put into correct olympic lifting technique) to strength and conditioning (these guys can throw some weight).

My wife and I tried once workout while in town. While slightly different from what we were used to, it was excellent! Anthony was very technical and gave good feedback. The workout atmosphere was very high energy and it was busy! One downside was it made things a little crowded but the company was great! We would come again.

This is one of the most space efficient boxes I have ever attended. The training atmosphere is great. The programming is well thought and science based. Every piece of equipment imaginable is housed here.

This gym is the best! Awesome programming and coaches. The WODs are always great but the strength routines at this gym are excellent. All the coaches are knowledgable and actually come around and correct your form when needed unlike some other boxes I've been to.

Good facility with plenty of equipment and space. And to top it all off everyone is really friendly and nice here. Definitely recommend this gym.

For fitness enthusiasts, this is worth checking out. The people are great, supportive and motivating, and the programming is varied and dynamic. Every week has been different in the year that I have participated. My benchmark for comparison is another, larger-scale crossfit box in NYC, as well as probably 5 or 6 other crossfit gyms I have visited across the US. The head coach here does a great job with everything from training and programming to creating a great environment. The place has improved a lot in the past year, although work is on-going to expand and renovate sections. I have enjoyed being a part of the growing experience.

As far as I am concerned this is the best box in the world!!!! The workouts are amazing and easy to do on a gradient until you build up your strength. The people are super friendly and down to earth. The best part of this place is the owner, also the head coach, who is on the floor with you everyday (not in an office number crunching.) I am very impressed with his extensive knowledge and certifications on the human body and fitness as well as his ability to inspire/motivate all of us to push ourselves to reach our goals.

Friendly and responsive owner, welcoming crew in the WODs. This is also one of the only places in NYC with powerlifting programming (Wendlers 5-3-1). Generally nice facility within MidCity gym but a bit cramped. They are strict about class sizes and plan a move to a larger location. Highly recommended.
