I dropped in for a week at CrossFit Union Square while visiting NYC, doing their five classes drop-in option. It was easy to sign up for classes after registering and the gym was spacious, clean, and had plenty of equipment. All the coaches I interacted with did a great job making me feel welcome and making sure I was confident with the different movements of the workout for that day. Extra shout out to Coach Teaganne and Coach Elyssa for some coaching they each gave me.
If you’re reading this as a potential drop-in, this is a great spot to get your fitness in while you’re in NYC. If you’re a NYC resident looking to try something new, fitness wise, or another way to meet some new people, definitely give this gym a shot.
Thank you CrossFit Union Square for a fantastic week, I can’t wait to be back the next time I visit.

Genial experiencia!

My boyfriend and I had two drop-ins during our vacation in NY. We had a very good time, the coaches are helpful, the environment is friendly, you can feel that there is a good community, the box is clean and neat. I would definitely recommend it even to those who, like us, are “foreigners”. Last but not least, the dog in the box is super sweet! 🥰

The BEST crossfit gym in the country. The community is second to none, and the coaching staff is the most understanding and helpful group of people you will ever meet. You will achieve your fitness goals, no matter what they are, and meet incredible people along the way. The ownership group is fantastic too. They’ve faced some challenges, as you’d expect running a small business in NYC, but the strength and energy of this community has never wavered, and that starts from the top.

Hands down the best CF gym/box in the NYC. I have been a CF for 10+ years and the people at CFUS are amazing. They're very welcoming and inclusive. Most of all, the coaches are exceptional. They are very detailed in their explanation of the movements. They breakdown the technique some of the more complex exercises (e.g. muscle ups, snatch), and are there to help you and guide you through the WODs. Speaking of WODs... they're HARD! Thanks CFUS.

Had my first CrossFit class ever six months ago when I joined CrossFit Union Square, and while I was fairly certain I was going to hate it, I decided to keep an open mind and give it a month. As a total newbie to the world of weightlifting, hook grips, overhead squats, and CrossFit lingo, I was worried about keeping up, but the excellent instruction and approachability of the coaches put any of my fears to rest. My fellow class members are also super encouraging and helpful, and I am inspired by them every time I go to class. The workouts are the real deal, and push you no matter your fitness level. I still have a lot to learn, but I definitely feel stronger and more confident every day, thanks to the terrific coaches (especially my regulars Amanda, Chris, Ross, Elyssa and Jay!) and the whole CrossFit Union Square family.

I take no pleasure in writing a negative review of a CrossFit box, but this was by far the most unfriendly affiliate I’ve ever visited. When someone from the community makes the effort to drop in at a box outside their home city, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect a basic welcome and courtesies. It’s no secret that CrossFit is a declining sport, and with staff like this, it’s easy to see why. Do better team!

Such a friendly gym, coaches are very welcoming and front desk is super helpful. Workouts are what you’d expect from CrossFit, in an encouraging environment!
Morning classes tend to fill up in advance, I’d recommend reaching out in advance to get set up into their system (Wodify).

I’m still very new to CFUS, having just moved to NYC leaving my gym of 3 years. In the 4 classes I’ve taken so far, all I can say is that I am so happy to have found this community. The coaching and programming is top notch and while I miss the gyms I called home, I am really grateful and excited to build my little life here in NYC with CFUS close to the center of it. I hope you drop in and feel what I felt after my first class, and decide to stay too.

Did a drop in, unfortunately, not the best experience at a crossfit gym. It might have been the trainer that day reading other reviews but the front desk personnel was more welcoming than the trainer itself. Throughout the session there was zero attention to technique or improvement, felt more like our trainer was hyping everyone (yes also important) than actually giving tips to improve on technique. And yes the entrance is the door with no signage next to the Reebok store.

The programming here is absolutely unmatched! All of the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and invested in your progression as an athlete. Multiple class offerings such as barbell club, bodybuilding, and gymnastics gives members the opportunity to work on other skills and sports in addition to Crossfit. Another aspect that makes this gym so special is how inclusive it is. No matter how you identify or where you come from, you are welcome and celebrated in this space. I have been a member for nearly three years and have had an exceptional experience thus far. I highly recommend for anyone looking to try Crossfit for the first time or experienced with the sport.

CrossFit Union Square is truly the best gym in the city.
Dropping in elsewhere always makes me appreciate how great the staff and programming are. The coaches at cfus actually pay attention, know how to organize a class, and teach beginners in a safe, mindful way.
The workouts programmed are great because they can be scaled up / down for every single person.
Honestly cannot compare cfus to any other gym, they are in their own league

One of the best gym on Manhattan. It has great and scientific programming. I enjoy WOD as regular CrossFit workout ( I love how Patrick explain every whiteboard very clearly). And for someone who needs a great improvement and practice on barbell like me, they have special barbell class (Thanks Ross Amanda for the very detailed coaching). Also you have Bodybuilding by the one and only Coach Chris, who’s WOD class is also amazing. Besides that, I think it’s a very friendly group overall. All members seem have to know each other for a long time and are good friends. I am new and little bit intimated at first, but I am glad I can found my spot here.

Let me start by saying this, I'm a huge group fitness gal. From hot yoga at Equinox to speed dating interval class, you name it I've done it. So when I say Crossfit Union Square is hands down the best gym I've been to (and I'm not even that good at crossfit), y'all gotta believe me. The programming is top notch, suitable for all fitness level. The coaches are incredibly helpful and friendly, who are always down to give scaling options for even help you out after class with extra accessory work. But the best part of it is definitely the community - Everyone's extremely dedicated and hardworking during the week, and have fun on the weekend. I've made some life long friends here for sure! CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH

An absolutely world-class CrossFit gym. The programming is incredibly thoughtful and well-done. While the workouts are challenging, all of the coaches are warm and friendly and will happily help members scale as needed. The leadership team cares deeply about member experience and has done a terrific job navigating the challenges posed by COVID. Finally, the community is fantastic; members often hang out outside of the gym, and everyone is very welcoming.

I've been going to CFUS for 6 years. The programming and some of the coaches are top notch. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the rest of the gym.
The space is small and gets overcrowded, and the waitlist is often 10+ people deep. Membership increases every year, and some members pay less than others.
Management does not value its members, especially the female ones. I recently broke my leg and they required me to pay the full $300.
It’s disappointing that the owners have become less focused on members and more focused on profits.

CFUS is the most expensive gym in the city, and prices continually go up without warning. Instead of giving cues during the wod, instructors mindlessly walk around, barely paying attention. Members have severely injured themselves. There are long wait lists to get into class. There is visible mold in parts of the gym.

I'm new to this gym but I like it a lot. All of the coaches are super knowledgeable and they pay attention to you. The equipment all looks new or well taken care of. The barbells are all shiny and spin well for example. The programming is top notch. It pushes me right to the level I like and the exercises are diverse yet helpful for the core lifts. All around, I'm happy here.

I'm a long time CrossFitter (8 years now, sheesh) who recently switched home gyms to CrossFit Union Square. I couldn't be happier. The programming is amazing (and amazingly hard, but in a great way that inspires me, and the coaches always help me with scaling); the members are committed and kind and welcoming and clearly a community; the coaches are friendly and inspirational and give the very best and most nuanced cues and somehow have learned my name already. It is a CrossFit gym that still loves CrossFit, if that makes sense. I dislike change, in general, as a human being. But I'm utterly delighted with my decision to join the team and my new friends at CrossFit Union Square.

I decided to get back into working out again and did a drop in class at CFUS. For all the first timers, their entrance is on Bond St down the stairs. Well it must be fate because the minute I walk down those stairs I saw coach Amanda, who was one of my favorite coaches from my previous box! However for today’s WOD it was coach Patrick and he was awesome! He did a really good warm up (which I need) and his instructions were impeccable. He made sure we were doing every move correctly and when I approached him about a movement he gave me great tips and a modified version so that I can still participate in the WOD. What’s more, the members there were so friendly and kind. The added bonus was they have open gym after my WOD was over so you can stay and practice whatever you want. I LOVE this place!!!! It’s my new home ❤️

I’ve had a great experience at Crossfit Union Square thus far. The people are so nice and encouraging without any judgement on where you're currently at. The gym and equipment is super clean (respectful of covid) with a friendly staff and community.
I joined Crossfit Union Square through my one-on-one training with Coach Chris, I don’t just feel physically stronger, but also mentally in the short time that we've been working together. His knowledge about the field and determination to cater to each of his athletes is impressive.
My CFUS foundations class was taught by Coach Ross who made me feel extremely comfortable with the space as well as the essential techniques, exercises, and form to succeed in my first class.

I just moved to the city from an hour + away and my first matter of business was finding a new CF box. I checked out a few places before coming to CFUS, and I decided to make this place my new 2nd home. I come from a small-town box with one coach who knows my athletic ability to a T and members that are like family, so finding a gym that had that same family feel was important to me. I knew I wouldn't quite find that small-town feel in the big city, but I did my best to find a place that felt the most comfortable (and close to the subway :D ). My first few drop ins I was welcomed warmly by the coaches and introduced to the class. I love the programming so far, and I like that we go through warm ups and cool downs together as a class. The WODs I have done have been heavy on the conditioning and long in duration which is right up my alley because I like the challenge. With longer WODs, be prepared to have no time to lollygag...you have to set up your equipment quickly especially if the class is larger. It's in the basement so while it's not hot (at least not now in the winter) there's no circulation so bring your inhaler for the longer WODs lol. Equipment seems to be in good condition. However we've not been encouraged to wipe down our equipment after use at least since I've been there (mats for HSPU, wall balls, rowers, etc.) and I think we should be because we're all sweaty and have germs. I clean my equipment for the next person and would love to know that when I go to grab it for my class, it's already been cleaned by the last person who used it. I guess I can clean it myself but there's not really time for that. Overall, I'm excited to be here, people have already been friendly and introduced themselves after realizing I'm not a familiar face, and I'm looking forward to checking out the oly and yoga/kin stretching classes!

I don’t often write negative reviews, but I don’t know how this place has all five stars. I dropped in after confirming 24 hours in advance, and receiving confirmation from someone at the gym. The drop in fee is not anywhere, and though it’s five dollars lower than other places in the area, it would be nice to know what they’re asking for on the landing page. The place had about 40% too many people for the class, and the space was quite hectic. Coaches were telling people to be careful with the weights, but people didn’t seem to mind. Form overall made me very nervous, and the “theater in the round“ style basement setup made it impossible for the coaches to see more than a quarter of the class at once.
There was no introduction, very little warm up, then straight to olly lifting. Then a rush to do a met con with chest to bar where I would’ve hit my head on piping every time had I tried to actually do explosive kipping. Then no cool down despite there being more than 7 minutes left in the hour.
A coach noticed me about 20 minutes into the class and asked if I was new, had a warm hello when I mentioned I was dropping in, but that was it. I suppose if you want somewhere to be going through the motions surrounded by other people going through the motions, this might be your place.
