Worst customer service outside of the trainers/front desk staff. I was a member at this gym and left because of poor communication when my membership was canceled without my consent or request. I was told that it was canceled by "email." Even though I never canceled it. I spoke with Grant who was helpful, but as for the manager, had me waiting there for an hour. I reached out to the manager, Pauline, via email and requested a credit. She replied that this was an error and a credit would be applied for the mistake. I never received this credit. I followed up for MONTHS via email with no response. Once I emailed that I would like to cancel, they canceled my membership the next day with no response. This gym also raises their price every year with very little to no improvement in the facilty.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE PLANET. I feel like they whenever baiting me. It’s impossible to get into contact with anyone who has any authority. The manager is literally never there. I can’t believe I even signed up for this shitty place. Take your business elsewhere, where they actually treat you like a human being. They don’t care about their members at all, and just ask for money.

just dont waste your money. you quite literally have nowhere to even stand half the time, no room to workout, and no equipment to use and you have to deal with trainers super setting their clients on the already little to no equipment available.
update to this crap gym: i caught a TRAINER talking crap about me TO A CLIENT while i was working out when he didnt realize my headphones were off. emailed management and they didnt even answer. joke of w gym

Despite what it says online, crunch does NOT allow you cancel your membership easily online. You have to go into the location to cancel. I've been part of many other gyms and they normally allow you to cancel online. This is a shady business practice as some people might find it harder to go in person right away and would not recommend joining crunch if you don't want to lose money unnecessarily.

Probably the best Crunch location in Manhattan in regards to overall strength training space and equipment. Especially great for calisthenics. Still comfortable to train at peak times and capacity.

it's good there's a good selection of equipment and the staff are mostly friendly. Plus it's kept pretty clean and they have updated the equipment over the past few years. The only thing that's not great (as other reviews mention) is that if you go at peak times (in morning or after work) it gets really crowded and literally every equipment is taken. But i feel like that's just every decent gym in nyc

I’ve gone to many crunches in my life and was a member in the past. I am visiting New York this week and conveniently this one was right next to where I am staying. I first came in to ask about a week pass which they said was 140 dollars (that’s 14 months where I’m from in Tampa) which is totally fine, I get it, it’s New York. They said I would need to talk to sales rep but no one is in so they gave me a free one day pass and told me to stop in her office after I workout. I workout and the sales rep INGRID VALENTIN was not in her office but the manager was. He was great, he said my best bet was to come with my friend for the next 3 days I am staying in New York since it would be half the price of a 1 week membership that way, awesome. I come back later in the day to workout again since they gave me a pass for the day so I figured I take advantage of it. When I come in, the front desk person calls the sales rep Ingrid Valentin down even though I told him I already had my plan figured out. As soon as she got down I told her I already spoke to her manager and we decided I would just use my friends guest passes at 25 dollars a day for the rest of the week. She immediately gets frazzled and asks why I didn’t call or text her back during the day to which I say I’ve been touring the city all day and didn’t recognize the number. I politely ask if I may go workout with the day pass I got earlier today to which she said sure that’ll be 38 dollars. I show her the pass as it’s says day pass, not 1 workout pass and she said let me see what I can do. Few minutes go by (I highly doubt she called or talked to anyone) and she comes back with; we can honor your day pass you just have to pay 38 dollars for this morning. What an insult LOL. I proceed to walk out, as I’m walking she says don’t worry we have your credit card on file…
To the manager,
Please review this tape, everything I said is accurate and it’s a horrible look for someone to be insulted this bad to feel the need to spend 20 minutes out of their day to write this review. Thank you

I dont have the app I do everything digital by my computer
And did not even ask me if I could sighn I. A diffrent way like getting my information
I felt slightly discriminated on idk if that’s what that was
But I did not even receive a email bout these new updates
So I’m just a paying customer that has no idea what’s going on and could not go to the gym because of this women working like does she not know how to use her computer ?

It's not the best gym at all. Attachments for certain equipment are always missing, so you have to bring your own, things are lying around and poorly organized, and it's not super clean. Also, the behavior of certain personal trainers is sometimes creepy and impolite. If you are using a machine and they need it for their client, they give you an attitude and stand there rudely staring at you, pressuring you to leave. I experience this with two men working there (the Asian guy, for example). Save your money and go elsewhere.

Overpriced and disrespectful mean staff. Went for 1 day and was told a guest pass was $35 even though I was with a friend who had a membership. Overall horrible staff (manager) and (desk person) worst gym I’ve ever been to in order to be treated with that amount of snottiness. Honestly you’re better off going to planet fitness which has higher quality equipment and and actual nice workers. Ps don’t treat a first time guess badly if you don’t have the high tier equipment to make up for it. I guess the rent is too high for them 😹😹😹

If you’d like to spend your morning having a weirdly bouncer like situation when you’re just trying to work out come here. Boyfriend sent me a “VIP guest pass” through the app (he is a member). I now gather these guest passes are not in fact guest passes they are basically their free trial if you are interested in joining. On the guest pass you receive all it says welcome!/it’s valid for one day within the next 7 (fine print says 18+, local ID, must not have visited a crunch in the last 30 days all of which I met but also “special restrictions may apply” but doesn’t say what the restrictions were). After arriving/signing in I was told I do not meet the “other restrictions” and would need to pay $25 but when I asked what they were he literally said “I just told you you don’t meet them” and to email his manager who would be in in two days during business hours. There was a back and forth that ended in pay $25 or don’t work out. Obviously I left. I was a member many years ago and have occasionally visited other locations on class pass and always had a pleasant experience so maybe just avoid this location and their warm welcoming staff

Membership was great for about a month.
When the new year came, I can’t even get a treadmill to run on at 7AM. I was told by the manager that this location “doesn’t get full even during peak times.” This is completely false.
The sauna also broke and has not yet been fixed. That’s one of the reasons I got a membership in the first place. It’s been more than a month!
Most egregiously, I once called before going to the gym to confirm that the women’s sauna was fixed, was told yes on the phone, then arrived 20 minutes later to it being broken. Nobody had an explanation for me and basically told me it was my bad luck.
There are also constantly issues with the HVAC at this location. The cardio area is stuffy, hot, and smelly.
Go to the 59th street location — much cleaner, bigger, and better managed.

I like the gym itself but the crowd after 5 has become a huge deterrent to going that so many people are here during peak. I didn’t know a gym could let that many people in here at once. When I joined 8 months this was never an issue but now following the January New Year’s resolution bunch, there’s always lines for every machine and there’s no floor room. I’d probably be better buying weights and working out in my apartment. I don’t want to cancel but nowadays I feel like half my workout is waiting and the saunas haven’t been working since the beginning of the year :( really kind staff though!

WARNING: YOU WILL NEED TO WAIT IN LINE TO USE ANYTHING!
I seriously don't know how this gym allows people to keep signing up or even allowing people to enter the facility during peak hours.
This place is an absolute safety hazard all around.
It gets so packed that you can BARELY find any space to do your own workout in a corner if you wanted to. You have to wait 30+ mins in line to use a treadmill or stair master. same goes for certain weight machines.
WHY DOES THIS PLACE ALLOW THIS MANY PEOPLE TO SHOW UP ALL AT ONCE?
seriously stay away from this location. DO NOT SIGN UP to this location, literally find any other location or just choose another gym like planet fitness or blink.
this place is AWFUL!

Crowded, clean and well appointed. Good mix of equipment. That said, the facility is in decline.
Men's dry sauna stopped working 7 weeks ago. Wet sauna stopped working 4 weeks ago. Getting hot water from the showers is dice roll, with cold water (in the middle of winter) becoming the norm. When I asked the front desk, no one had any answers on when this would get fixed.
When combined with a price hike, this is not a great thing. So you may be able to find similar machines and gears at a better value in other facilities.

This gym sucks! This place is super packed most of the time and on the weekend it’s super freaking packed. They need to stop allowing people to sign up. There’s 5 people waiting typically for one of the treadmills or stairmasters which is insane and I’ve never seen that at a gym in my life. Also some of the vibe of people that go here are rude. On top of that they’re constantly changing managers and if you run into any issues, forget them addressing that. I had some weird older woman take pics of me working out and had a witness see that woman do that and I reported it to gym management and they did absolutely nothing and didn’t bother to look at the camera footage. There’s also weird older guys that have come up to me interrupting my workout and other woman to flirt like cmon. Mid gym not worth the price.

The worst. Always packed to the brink, have to wait for every single thing no matter what time you show up. Sauna is broken half the month and even when it’s not it doesn’t get hot at all and the cleaning crew closes it 2 hours before closing and they keep closing it earlier and earlier in the night. A month ago it was supposed to close a half hour before closing, two weeks ago it changed to one hour, now it’s off 2 full hours before closing (they say it’s one hour but it’s not, I’ve been 3 times, fully turned off 2 hours before closing) - none of the other Crunches do this. 81st street is fully operational till closing. Join TMPL, crunch is not worth it.

Probably the worst gym I’ve been to in NYC for seveal reasons;
1) I go Crunch through ClassPass and their policy of not letting anybody in if they are 1 minute early or 1 minute late is asinine. I have arrived at 5:11 (5pm with 10 min grace) and been denied entry. They had a 6pm slot available which I booked and they still did not let me in until 5:45. Totally insane for them to not let people in and it isn’t clear what they get out of it other than several poor reviews from classpassers.
2) The actual gym equipment is severely lacking. If you need a certain weight to put on a barbell there is a chance the weight you need will be randomly located on the other side of the gym. It looks like the gym has never been organized and weights just stay where people drop them.
3) Hugely crowded and the layout does not help (there are 2 bench presses perpendicular to each other forcing you to walk over other people). Despite this there is a decent amount of office space and class space that remains unused from the time I am there. For over $100 a month for a gym membership I would expect much better.
4) A few time personal trainers have expected that I would give up equipment to their clients. I totally understand asking to work in, but having a personal trainer should not equate to getting a fast pass to whatever gym equipment you need at the expense of other guests.
Pros:
Nice shower and bathroom facilities with towels provided
Gym members are friendly and good about sharing space
Convenient location
Overall I could never recommend getting a monthly membership here for what you pay. Blink gives you the same experience at a much lower price tag and for the money the ny sports club nearby offers a much better experience.

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this gym. I started working in the area so I wanted to check out the surrounding gyms. I attempted to use a free day pass so I could see if the gym was worth the insanely high monthly fee and the receptionist gave me an attitude and sucked her teeth after I asked about it. She went on to gossip with her coworker as I tried to ask questions and as I finished filling out an over the top form just for a day pass, she made me take a seat for at least 10 minutes. Incredibly disrespectful. Also from what I saw, the gym itself was nothing special and it was overly packed. You should be able to find cheaper gym for the same quality around here where the employees won’t disrespect you.

I went this Saturday and Sunday (03/08 and 04/08). I was seen by an attendant for two days at crunch fitness on 34st. On the first day, he didn't inform me about the free days that the academy suggested. On the second day, I informed them that I had registered and presented proof. He didn't authorize me to train for free to get to know the gym, as the website says, I had 3 days. I was extremely devastated and disappointed with the experience. I feel deceived, I was charged two daily rates of 73.16.

I walked in tonight trying to do the second day of my 3 day pass that I got online. And, this woman was so adamant in not letting me in saying that they only honor one day passes and if I looked closely it would say restrictions apply. I activated it in front of two other workers the other day and they never said anything about that, so I was confused. I said I'd start a membership and asked about the prices and she said no one could help me tonight and that I'd have to try again tomorrow and that I could get a $30 day pass. A day pass for me working out maybe 1 hour and then having to pay for a membership the next day makes no sense lol. I wish they had just honored the 3 day pass for me tonight because I was intending to get the membership anyways. It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth that this woman felt uptight about the whole situation. I don't think I'll be coming back. You lost a customer.

This gym is a joke. The manager Isidro monstero got my membership revoked cause I went off on him. I have never been treated the way he treated me. I came in with a friend and from the start they were acting weird like they didn’t want me and my friend there. He denied my friend to come in as a guest, that’s fine then I asked him if he can heat my food up. Then done it in other crunches. I know they don’t have to but it was the way he said “ No! I’m the manager!” They dismissed and disrespected me. Then I was going to pay to bring my friend in and he turned me away and said my friend can’t come in. I don’t understand how crunch allows people like him to continue without being reprimanded. He simply did not like me and my friend and cause he’s a regional sales manager my membership got revoked. What a joke

Decent gym but not worth the price imo. Water fountain seems to be consistently down along with amenities like sauna.
Some of the trainers are good (I liked Nate) but seems to be hit or miss. I recently tried doing a training session with someone else for a push workout and despite mentioning this multiple times that I wanted to focus on chest and shoulders, I ended up being told to do back exercises and planks in my session which I found to be disappointing.

I’m a member at Crunch in the city, but don’t usually go to this one. A friend was in town, so I ventured here to join him for a workout.
Everything was cool until I overheard the trainer nearby whispering about ‘not being able to bring personal trainers in’ to the person he was working with, clearly directed at me. So apparently, two dudes chatting about an exercise and working out makes me a personal trainer. I jokingly and nicely said something to him that I’m not a personal trainer, just working out with my buddy. He can’t even say the words ‘I’m sorry’. Or be bothered to explain himself. Those words go a long way.
Extremely put off by the interaction. Made me feel very uncomfortable. Can’t imagine what gets said by the trainers that I don’t hear because I usually have headphones in.

There is also never hot water in the women’s locker room so I end up taking cold showers even when I have a cold. They need to fix the water boiler or whatever the issue lies.

Been a paying customer of crunch for almost 3 years. Went in today and asked if I could bring someone in for a guest pass for one day.
Was met by a saleswoman who initially pushed for us to pay a 25 dollar guest pass (this is free at other gyms in nyc), and she proceeded with passive aggressive behavior after I told her I’ve been a paying customer for a long time. She wanted to see a valid NY ID and asked - how can you prove that you live in ny without a valid ID? You can show this through energy bills.. In the end she said “if I hadn’t acted so unfriendly, things may have ended up differently”. Read other reviews and this kind of greedy, coarse sales behavior is a common theme at Crunch, and to then punish your customers like that is reprehensible.
This gym is expensive enough for what it offers (packed very often, charges $25 to let a guest in, treadmills break often). On the bright side they do a good job of cleaning and the people at the front greeting desk are nice. But to be treated like this after 3 years will be the reason I’m leaving.

The gym has tons of equipments for cardio and strength training.
They also have a place for stretching and always have classes.
Their showers and sauna are always clean. 👌
I highly recommend the trainer Ruslana. I have been training with her for 6 months and I have seen big changes 😳 already.
All my pain is gone (neck, back, and knees), and my body is stronger.
Because she was an Olympic athlete, she taught very professionally.
👍😏
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I lost about 10 pounds of weight by now.🤗

Extremely dissatisfied with the costumer service, just trying to squeeze every penny out of you like any other pathetic gym. I brought a friend so she could do her free trial since she recently moved to the area. I thought this might be an option but apparently she had used a guest pass a long time ago and that counted as her “free trial”. Extremely misleading as the guest pass is supposed to be that, a guest pass, not an opportunity for the gym to harass you with sales calls. Spoke to management and they said “we suggest you just become a member”. Excuse you, you’re not even letting her in and expect her to become a member? Like I said, pathetic and horrible costumer service. Cancelled my membership, it’s really not worth it.

A very clean gym, lots of towels which is really nice. The gym is quite spacious and there’s lots of machines, from cardio to strength weight machines. Lots of smaller handheld weights too which is great. The fitness classroom is really big and clean too. Overall great place to work out.

Gym itself is an unusual layout but the equipment is good, mens showers have zero water pressure. Manager named Mario is a scumbag liar who would not honor crunch’s guest policy for a friend I brought to workout with me. Mario tried to get him to pay a ridiculous fee to workout for a day. We then went to 14th Union square, a much more professional location, where my friend worked out with no issue, because they actually honor crunch’s guest policies. Front desk staff was also clearly clueless that sunday on how to check in a new person

When I signed up I specifically asked for guest passes for my long distance gf because that was something I had at equinox. I was given 3 physical passes to satisfy this, which influenced my decision to switch.
When I tried to use it, they said she had to pay $25 because she was out of state… no duh. I messaged the rep who gave me the passes and their boss and they said there was nothing they could do to refund me.
The gym is overall okay, which is the only reason I give 1 star. I find this situation ridiculous and a reflection of the sales staff that works there, just trying to get your money by any means like any other gym.

I would like to express my deep dissatisfaction with the experience I had upon arriving at your gym. Despite updating my credit card information in the gym's application beforehand, I was denied entry by staff member Dianne until I was able to retrieve the physical card and not to mention the way the approach was made by that help desk personnel was inappropriate . This caused inconvenience as I had to contact my credit card company due to fraud protection measures, which required the entire card number that I didn't have with me at that time. It is disheartening to encounter situations where help desk staff provide false information and misuse their position, making the experience unnecessarily difficult for members. Also upon asking several times for the evidence of the statement she mentioned to me she wasn't able to provide me with any substantial evidence for the same . I kindly request clarification on the policy that explicitly states members cannot be admitted without physically retrieving their credit card no matter how far you stay. This situation appears to align with the negative reviews (3.6 rating) on Google for your gym. Furthermore, I recommend implementing regular training for helpdesk staff and managers to ensure accurate assistance and avoid similar incidents in the future. Addressing these concerns will enhance the overall experience for members and foster a positive environment.

Outdated, not maintained, dirty, inefficiently layed out, a waste of $
The 34th street location and the Upper east side location are the worst gyms I’ve been to in the city. I’ve been a member since 2018 and since Ive joined they haven’t bought new equipment. The machines have to be at least 10 years old not to mention at least 85% are broken with no sign even on them. Even the somewhat newer machines (still at least 6 years old) are broken in ways that are completely unsafe - moving while not turned on, speed is wrong, grips missing.
Most people would say then why are you a member? although this one is closer to my apartment, I take the walk to the mid town east crunch daily and only come to 34th street when I have to. The quality of cleanliness, machines and staff is incomparable to the midtown east location.
Not to mention everything is filthy dirty, I’ve never seen someone cleaning there but that’s the least of it.
This gym is the worst. I cannot wait until TMPL opens. Anything is better then Crunch 34th street

Poor experience today. I booked with ClassPass and arrived at 12:11 when I had up to 12:10 to get to the reservation. There were issues getting there that caused me to be a minute late and I was denied entry despite explaining what happened, that I ran there. I stood there being denied 60 seconds after the cut off. He told me to come back at 1 and be early. I have a life? I can't just come back at 1? This was my one chance to get exercise today. NYC is full of busy people with busy lives, and Crunch doesn't seem to have any understanding of that. The gym was empty, but I was told I was also denied because if they let me in, I could be taking a spot from someone who was waiting. Not to mention, he had me stand aside while he checked in gym members, wasting even more time, and then told me I was late. Don't worry, I gave ClassPass an earful too. No one seems to be human anymore. Oh and the place smells like hot feet. Won't be returning and certainly won't be recommending. To the manager reading this, I see other reviews of similar theme, maybe advise your staff to allow an extra grace period if not just 5 simple minutes and then your Google rating would stop tanking.

The worst experience ever. Very terrible customer service. They force you to sign in for each of the class you register which makes you feel no freedom/flexibility here. In addition, they won’t let you in for a class when you’re only 15 minutes late and with constant employee turnover management of the staff is also a mess. Some staff will let you in which mislead you that you can be there 15 minutes later while some staff would be mean and force you to leave the gym. They renovated the shower room which makes the water temperature not stable. And they changed the shampoo to a cheaper version. And the steam room can be out of service without an instruction of how to turn it on. The massage guns are missing 90% of them all the time. They also discriminate against ClassPass members so if you have class pass don’t go to this location. It’ll ruin your mood by interacting with those lack of empathy/ careless managers. A woman even said she’s the manager at the front desk. Also when I canceled the Crunch membership last year they charged me a late class fee after the member cancelation date, which feels disgusting. Just try other fun places with class pass and don’t settle for this one.

Tried coming here with ClassPass and was late by 1 minute because of a transit delay and they wouldn't let me in. My buddy who is a Crunch member was already inside waiting for me. I've been to at least 6 other Crunch Fitness Signature locations across NYC and haven't had this issue. Manager says it's a ClassPass issue but other locations haven't had any issues the 2 or 3 times I've ran a few minutes behind. Manager had the nerve to say he'd have to call the other branch managers to check on their late check-in activity and said this is a habitual thing for me which I found insulting. To add insult to injury, the manager said I could pay $10 for a day pass. We both left and went to Midtown East. Just a demoralizing way to start the day.

CONSISTENT LACK OF HOT WATER. Gym is fine, but BEWARE there are multiple occasions of no hot water for long stretches of time with limited staff reaction to it (most recent going on right now since 12/21/22 and ongoing; another 05/09/22-05/17/22). The staff provide 10 reasons why they can't get hot water, it's not their fault, there is no one available, and 0 results. They expend all their energy telling you it's not their fault and they called someone but he's not there so ... sorry. Disappointing. Otherwise gym is fine, but prepare for ICE COLD or no showers.
***In response to the owner's comment of 12/23 - Yes I have emailed many times. No hot water still. You can improve by getting hot water at the gym.

The biggest pros are the steam room/sauna and the convenience of the location. Cons are that it smells terrible in the steam room, would be nice to throw some pleasing scents in there, and a few of the weight machines (and shower doors in the locker room) are broken from time to time. Towels are paper thin as well. Other than that, pretty typical gym. Given the context of NYC, and the price of a membership, it’s pretty difficult to beat.

Very welcoming staff, if you go and need a tour because you haven’t made a decision to what gym join. Well ask for James G. he is the guy to talk to.
He will help you, coordinate a time that works around your schedule to sit down and go over everything the gym can offer.
After the tour, if he got time he will even give you pointers for your current gym routine.

Now i brag about my gym lol. I pass several gym franchises to come here. It's a good SAFE workout vibe. One can't help but get serious about fitness in this environment. Don't just leave when you're not happy. Ask for the things that will make you happy. In Fitness and in life.
