I tried to cancel my membership in July, gave them a call and the girl said my cancelation was processed and I get a free month. Thought everything was great. I find out in December that I was still being charged. When I called them again they said I have to either cancel online or email them to cancel, and they can't issue a refund. Also I didn't see any cancellation button on the website, which is why I called in the first place.

They need to make their cancellation policy crystal clear and consistent, this is nothing short of a scam.

Disappointing experience at this gym, this location specifically. As a first-timer, I asked about a day pass to try out the facilities, but was instead pushed to sign up for a membership. Not being able to use the day pass that they offer and keep advertising and test the gym before committing was frustrating. Feels like they're more interested in sales than customer satisfaction. Might not be the best fit for those who want to try before they buy.

Just went to this Crunch to redeem a trial after seeing it on Instagram and they just didn’t let me in!! Claimed I already took trial in another studio (which actually never ever happened) and suggested I pay $35.

Also, the guys at the reception were super unfriendly (!) looking at me like I’m a scumbag when they were those who offered this trial in the first place and put money to promote it. If you’re not comfortable with the trial, just don’t offer it! Awful service.

So if you see this trial somewhere on their website or on Insta, don’t fall for it, they never want you to redeem it!

Had booked a discovery session as I am moving into the neighborhood, and emailed with them about lockers and timing.

Once I arrived I was informed that I would not be let in without an id. I had a picture on my phone of all my ID’s and still I was not allowed to inside. If they would have mentioned bringing an ID in any of the emails we exchanged I would have naturally done so just as I brought a towel and a lock as that was needed.

Terrible service, never felt less welcome at any gym I ever been to. Never coming back.

This location of Signature is not the most impressive among its counterparts. Overall quality is deemed adequate, yet unremarkable.

Multiple patrons have reported and independent observation confirms ...that the second-floor weight area emits a decidedly unpleasant odor.

The establishment has posted signage explicitly instructing that windows are not to be opened, notwithstanding the offensive conditions.

In town for a month so I got a month long membership. They didn’t give me a keycard or chip or whatever so whenever I come in I have to be looked up by my phone number, and the absolute *performance* these people give when I ask them to look me up is insane. It’s like I asked them to help me move. One woman interrogated me about why *they* didn’t give *me* a chip to scan. I don’t know, lady, ask your coworker. Today the girl at the front desk rolled her eyes and practically threw a pad of paper at me so I could write my name and number on it.

I have also never been to a gym where so many people seem to have an almost religious belief in not re-racking your weights. Plates all over the floor, dumbbells all put in the wrong place, empty machine after empty machine left with weights stacked on them. Crowded as hell, no water fountain on the top floor where all the weights are (??)- honestly one of my least favorite places I’ve ever worked out.

10/10 experience! John Radzik, memberships manager, made joining such a breeze. Went out of his way to make my husband and I feel welcome and I was able to join in literally 5 minutes. Non of the back and forth craziness, scary hidden fees. Great gym, great quality, awesome team! Thanks for the experience!!

OVERCROWDED. Since NYSC closed down the block, Crunch 83rd is PACKED liked sardines. During peak hours forget about it, but off peak hours are hard to find. You need to be prepared to modify your workout to what equipment is available.

Terrible customer service. I paid for a week pass but because I lost my receipt they won’t let me in. They’re too lazy to add/remove guests to the system so the receipt is the only proof you’ve got a guest pass. Worst part is that one of the workers was there when I got my guest pass (we even spoke about how long I’d be in NYC) and yet he refused to back me up.

They just don’t care.

I had a 5 star experience with John Radzik, the membership director, since day one of joining. Give that man a raise! He's straight-forward, knowledgable, and readily available for questions - whether in person, by phone, or email. I've recently moved to California and, while I'm still with Crunch - I miss John - and his warm welcome whenever I would go into the gym on 83rd. In terms of the gym, I like the classes, but feel there is some room for improvement in the space, and bathrooms.

Had an awesome experience here. John Radzik, one of the membership directors, was very accommodating and welcoming. He took time out of a clearly busy shift to talk to me about the gym and show me around, and was flexible and helpful when talking about my short-term stay in NYC. Saw him being kind and helpful to other Crunch fitness members while I was there. Awesome guy and great gym spot all around, 10/10 recommend because of the environment and culture Mr. Radzik set up.

I have never met a staff that was so inconsiderate and rude. I’m visiting NY for 1 day from Florida where I have, and showed them an active membership. I called the Crunch Fitness in Florida and had them speak Angie and the other guy at the front counter to verify my membership. Although they verified that I have a membership, Angie said since I don’t have a membership here, she would have to charge me $35 to work out for the day. I asked if I could get a guest pass for the 1 day that I’m in NY and she said I couldn’t because she could see that I was a member in Florida. Very contradictory. If I’m not a member, then I would be a guest.

Very disappointed that Angie and the staff doesn’t believe in actually taking care of the customer of the Crunch Fitness brand. I would give this staff and location less than 1 star if I could.

Used to be my go to location cuz of purely location, but literally the meanest people of all crunches I’ve been to. The salsa teacher Sael N insisted on using the studio audio playing shit out LOUD AFTER his class ended on Thursdays 7-9pm. I’ve asked him multiple times with him telling me he’s the instructor so he gets to do whatever he wants. Dude, I get it you are the instructor but unfortunately you are not the only dancer in NYC. My experience at Crunch was very positive. The staff were great, the place was clean, the price was right, environment was positive, and it had the equipment I needed. I canceled only because moved to a place where I could work out at home more conveniently, and also because I might get a pool membership in the future and Crunch doesn't have one.

The only criticism I would have is it does get busy during peak hours (especially the barbells), which is par for the course in NYC gyms so I didn't take off for that. FWIW they did add more barbells during my time there.

On cancellation: I filled out the form online and got no response, and got really worried that it would be a horror story like I've heard from other gyms. But when I went to talk to them in person they said it was already cancelled, so that was a welcome surprise!

I live on 85th St so I decided to choose this gym given its proximity. When I went to sign up I saw the sign outside saying there’s a 3 day trial. So I went in and asked for that. The sales guy said that he can’t do it and can only do one day. There’s a BIG sign outside and it’s still there showing 3 days. 3
Days or 1 day doesn’t matter to me cause I was going to signup any way. But seems like unethical business practices so I decide to walk out. And then I also recalled that this same sales person had shown me attitude when I looked into joining this gym in 2023 when I used to live a little further away and was looking for a gym in UWS.

Staff is awesome. Machines and locker rooms are good. However, the weight room upstairs doesn’t smell great. I know it’s a gym, but I’ve been to other gyms where the smell is only moderate and I can leave without feeling like I immediately need to wash my hair. The smell upstairs is pretty oppressive, to the point where I avoid the weights.

Crunch staff, please add some air purifiers or look into a deep clean to help with this!

Overall nice gym, good lifting equipment, sauna, group classes and personal training.
However I’ve never been able to schedule the classes I wanted (yoga, Pilates) as they are always booked. I wonder how many weeks or months I need to schedule in advance.

The weight room is so crowded with machines/people that it’s become dangerous to during peak hours. I have a flexible schedule and am still blown away that 2pm on a Tuesday there is a line for the bench press? Good gym with all the equipment you need. I mostly use the weights and dumbbells, and there is a pretty extensive set of equipment. Has 3 floors, plenty of open space for stretching, abs, free weights, etc. Always is kept clean. Locker room is a little bit small but is clean and convenient. The only problem is that it gets very crowded if at busy times like after work; my workout then is based on what equipment is available. If you go any time other than 4-8pm on a weekday, should be plenty of space.

I’ve been going to this gym for about a decade. Checking in is an easy swipe. Several people who work there know my name and use it, which I appreciate. It’s clean, and my fellow co-members are courteous. I generally go early or mid afternoon; it’s not crowded at these times. They always have clean towels available. It’s a bit
more expensive than I would like, but in NYC, it could be worse. That’s the reason I’m doing 4 stars instead of 5, along with the policy of if you’re going to freeze your membership, it has to be on the first of the month.

I paid for a 6 week membership (shortest membership they offer) because I was traveling to NY for a couple weeks. The gym is nice and consists of 3 floors. Since it's in NY there isn't a lot of space to create the floor space I'm used to in other gyms but I can't blame that on the gym. I will say the top floor that contains the cardio machines and weights is extremely crowded not just with people but with the literal machines. It's honestly a tripping hazard at times but again that's probably because they literally don't have the room to make it bigger. I'm not a huge fan of some of the staff here, not the most warm or friendly. I didn't expect that from gym staff because normally they are very friendly and generally would show you around if you're a new member but I didn't get any of that treatment. So there goes a star for that. I will say there were a couple girls that work at the front desk that were very nice so I'm definitely not talking about the entire staff. This is a gym where you can get your workout in, sometimes getting some weight machines can be difficult since they don't have a large quantity so, all in all, it's just alright.

Well-equipped gym in a great location. Good mix of machines and free weights (multiple sets of dumbbells and racks). I went around 9:00 AM and while busy, I didn't have to wait long for a machine or bench to become available.

Big props to John at the front desk - very helpful and hospitable!

I've been a member of Equinox and New York Sports club and while this gym doesn't have the amenities of an Equinox, it's more upscale and roomier than the New York Sports club locations I've been to.

I didn't need to put anything away but the locker room was clean and seemed big enough.

The gym is three stories: first floor is front desk, locker rooms, and a small functional workout area. The bottom floor is a larger functional workout area and for group classes. The second floor is free weights, machines, cardio equipment, and a small stretching area.

The one negative I found was there didn't feel like much space to do any kind of stretching on a mat: I was only able to find a couple smaller spaces and they were all taken. But I only spent an hour there so maybe I just didn't see it.

Overall I'd definitely return to this location when visiting the Upper West Side!

This is my go-to gym. It's the best one for convenience but not the best. The locker room is very small and only a very limited space where they crammed all of the lockers. There's, absolutely no space to get ready when it gets even just moderately busy. It feels like the locker room was an afterthought and they almost forgot about it until the very end. I have a problem when people are in my personal space. This experience is horrible for me since too many people are in my personal space and it's not like we can do anything about it, except wait or deal with it.

We often have to leave the locker room and wait for 2 or 3 people to leave if it's a busy hour and we need to change.

This location should either expand or move to Broadway and 79th where DSW used to be. That's a very nice space for them

Sign up process was incredibly smooth, worked with John directly, he's incredibly customer focused, transparent, easy going and personable. The gym itself has solid equipment, great trainers and friendly people working the front desk. Highly recommend, and if you're looking for a new membership you can only go right asking for John

Quick update in 2.9.24
I unfortunately had to cancel my membership due to a change in circumstances and the team I worked with was so thorough and on top of it, worked through with me seamlessly. Also there is new equipment that really opened up the cardio space. This gym is great and even has improved since the time I was a member.

EDIT - Response to the reply I received from the owner: The issue is not your policy; it was getting the wrong information over the phone, your lack of accountability/empathy when I walked in, and your operations manager never getting back to me. I’m sure it’s a great facility…but I won’t be going back. Best of luck with the

I called to get a visitor pass and was told I could get one and all I had to do was come in. I walked 20 minutes to get there, and when I did, I was told I would have to pay since I didn’t have an in-state ID. That was never mentioned to me over the phone and I saw an employee let another guest in without an ID right before me. The least they could have done given the mistake was on their end was to honor my free day pass. I was given an email to their operations manager and reached out to her afterwards , but she never responded. Very disappointing.

Yes, things are tight here, but it’s NYC, and if you can accept that then this gym will be of great service to you. The staff are pleasant, the equipment and facilities are clean, and everyone seems easy to workout around. It’s a solid gym at an affordable rate.

Highly unprofessional gym with gate keeping mentality for potential customers. Came in for a 3-day trial. We’re transplants so we don’t have a local ID. Used a piece of mail to verify our residency. We were able to attend the first day of our trial. The following day attended, we were under a time constraint so we weren’t able to discuss membership plans with the sales team — but would be back the next day. We were given the door. Our original entitlement of a 3-day trial was revoked. This is very unprofessional for potential customers and quite mean. Not all residents of NYC are going to have a local ID. Other means were verified the first day and confirmed. The fact that it wasn’t protocol is not our fault.

Surprisingly pleased with this location, especially given the affordable price point. There are some floor organizational changes that need to be taken. It’s almost impossible to navigate the gym floor or get the equipment you want without interrupting someone or dangerously stepping through equipment that’s too close together. Also, remaining open until 11 PM would be FANTASTIC. There are days when i skip the gym just because the commute + the workout puts me past 10 PM.
The crew are friendly and would easily recommend this location to others.

Disgusting behavior from John Radzik. He denied me a free trial because I do not live in the Upper West Side. Nowhere else have I ever seen that you need to pay $35 for a free trial. Mind you I live within NYC, born and raised. I will make sure to further investigate how this is possible. This is discrimination to say the least. Something has to be done. Just from reading the other reviews he thinks its okay to treat people however he feels like that day.

I’ve belonged to a lot of gyms and I have always believed that the most important factor was proximity to where I lived. However, I go out of my way for Crunch w83rd. The facility is compact and can be busy but I’m always able to get the equipment I want. The locker room is consistently clean and lockers are readily available. Most importantly, the staff is friendly and helpful. There is no gym snobbyness and the employees seem to generally care about the clients. I had a particularly good experience with Membership Director John Radzik. As is often the case, it seems a gym will roll out the red carpet trying to get you to join, but then the service and personalization ends there. I had the exact opposite experience with John. He continues to be concerned with my user experience, remains acessable and regularly reaches out to make sure I’m getting the services I need. It’s that kind of personalization and general care which keep me a committed member of Crunch w83rd.

Beware of this franchise location. Don't believe a single word they tell you. Membership Director John Radzik was disingenuous in phone conversations and repeatedly fraudulently charged credit card even well after he wrote us that the account was canceled and that they wouldn't charge the CC anymore. They'll probably claim it was an oversight but I don't believe them because that would only be one more lie after a string of so many other lies.

The gym is fine but the staff is horrible. If you're even one minute late too your reservation they immediately try to charge you $35 for a day pass… They try to blame it on classpass even though they're the ones making the decision and then try to use the opportunity to sell you a membership. It's super unnecessary since classpass reservations are 2 hours long and it's so obvious that they just want to use the situation to hit their membership quota. I would honestly never buy a membership there — very unwelcoming place that doesn't care about its customers at all.

This location should have negative stars. The head of membership is incredibly rude and unprofessional.
He was insistent over email to schedule an appointment, which I did, but then he never showed. He sent 4 emails about scheduling, but never sent an apology for not being there!
The next day I went to Crunch with my roommate, who is a member. She said I could use her day pass. After the front desk took her pass, the head of membership began gaslighting me, saying it was my fault he missed the meeting. I walked out. My roommate plans to find a new gym with me. Crunch lost business from both of us.

Very unwelcoming place. I went for the free trial I subscribed for with my girlfriend because we both were trying diferente gyms around the neighborhood to pick one to sign up. The front desk guy was very rude, making fun of “bringing guest” to the trial and not even letting us talk. Also said that to workout we would have to sign up right away or pay for a day-use otherwise we should feel free to walk away. That’s definitely a place I’ll never come back, the free trial of the customer service it’s enough to see it doesn’t worth it, LOL.
