Outstanding customer service and energizing classes!

My mom was visiting from out of state, and Ronald was incredibly helpful in setting up a temporary membership for her — it was done within the hour.

She absolutely *loved* the Zumba class and couldn’t wait to try the Booty Kickin step and Afro Caribbean classes. By the end of her trip, she was attending 5-6 classes a week!

This gym offers top-notch support, a welcoming atmosphere, and a wide variety of fun, high-energy classes that deliver a great workout.

The staff refused to let me in just 15 minutes before my scheduled ClassPass session, even though the gym was completely empty early in the morning. Their attitude was rude, with no eye contact or courtesy. Just cold and unwelcoming. There are plenty of other gyms nearby that actually value their customers

Membership cancellation process here is scammy. They auto charge you for an extra month after you cancel (which you pre-pay when you sign up). I cancelled on Sept 2nd and they charged me for all of Sept and all of Oct even though I have moved and will not use the gym during that time. They refused to give a refund when I asked politely. The gym itself is OK but often too crowded.

I normally go to the Park Slope location but came to Ft Greene to attend a 10am Wednesday yoga class with some friends the past 2 weeks. The vinyasa instructor subbing for the usual instructor was excellent—I would love to attend another class with Maury F!! Even better if it’s an evening class at Park Slope as I am a public school teacher going back to work next week.

Thanks to the Crunch front desk at Ft Greene and Park Slope as well, they are always immensely helpful and nice.

I love this location. The front desk staff is always professional and friendly. The manager is really down to earth and always available to answer my ten thousand questions. The personal trainers are always milling around to help others when they're not working with clients. Even when it's busy, I know that I can find a station to do something until an area is available or rotate with another member. The locker rooms are always clean, and I don't have issues with the "gym bro" culture that I used to encounter with a few other gyms before joining Crunch. The membership is worth the investment.

Finally decided to walking in, and I spoke with Ryan, who was really helpful, nice and super friendly. I had a tour of the gym and decided to sign up for a membership! They have A LOT of classes, A LOT, and fit everyone, which is exactly what I was looking for, besides lifting. The huge variety of classes is incredible! It’s a great environment where instructors and front desk has been extremely supportive and nice

I travel alot at the moment and just moved to Fort Greene, Brooklyn and this past week I found the most awesome Crunch that I have been to, to date. The staff was so kind and the equipment was great and I found the whole facility to be top notch! I’ve been working out for over 30 years now so I know what I’m looking for and I definitely be coming back when I get back to town and possibly joining because it really is so conveniently close!

The towel service isn’t great. They are a cheap material and then the short towels are always done. The plastic bags that are used to put your sweaty wet clothes in have been gone for about two weeks now. So they replaced it with garbage bags?? I like the staff here a lot but it seems as if they are having trouble keeping up with the amenities. I’ve been going to the tribeca location lately to use amenities but I wonder how this would work for individual that’s only have access to this gym. Not so fair. Please address this issue promptly.

Is it on? The timer says so! And yet… the SAUNA is COLD, perhaps it’s just been turned on? No it has been on for a long time.

The heater finally comes on! HOPE! Yes, our luck is turning around. But WAIT…. 5 minutes elapse and the 6th arrives with none other than DESPAIR, for the heating unit has returned to slumber before the thermometer’s needle has barely flirted with 100 degrees.

FIX THIS FOR ALL THAT IS GOOD AND LOVELY.. or stop ripping people off! So embarrassing.

The gym itself is great, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. My main concern is with some of the members—there’s a noticeable lack of gym etiquette from many who act as though they have priority over others. This is a shared, public space, and unfortunately, that respect isn’t always shown. I’ve been to larger Crunch locations with more members and far better overall etiquette. You’d expect a bit more consideration, especially since we’re all paying the same membership fee. That said, the equipment is solid for the size of the gym, the saunas work well (though the space can get pretty crowded), the trainers are very knowledgeable, and worth it if you’re looking for private training and the front desk team is always helpful and efficient.

This gym is too dirty, too broken, and too crowded to be charging what they charge. The smell of mildew follows you throughout the gym as you pass by the broken machines and the locker rooms are even worse. The water fountains constantly do not work, and somehow there are just never any towels. This is place offers less than a Planet Fitness experience for Crunch prices. Any other gym would be a better choice.

FT Greene Crunch Gym is $83 a month, and it feels like a bargain until you realize it’s not safe for women—or tolerable for anyone. The place reeks of sweat and mildew, like the towels and machines have never been properly cleaned, and the music is an assault of horrible Top 40 remixes blasted at club volume. The layout is chaotic—broken machines, overcrowded weights, and no real oversight—creates the perfect environment for guys to stare, invade your space, or give you unwanted “advice.” There’s zero effort to make the space feel safe or welcoming. Join this Crunch if you like stress, harassment and sensory overload.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM. Mold everywhere. I started experiencing respiratory issues when I started working out there, and after talking to neighbors who experienced similar issues, it's clear that they were caused by the broken HVAC system in the back room, there's exposed ductwork that leaks onto the turf creating mold. You can smell it most days. BE CAREFUL!

I’m writing this review to warn others about abusive behavior by staff at this location. I asked the receptionist if I would be able to downgrade my membership from unlimited to just single location. I was told to wait for 10 mins for a manager, but an employee who I thought was a manager was standing right there. I asked the receptionist if he was a manager and they said no, but he said yes. He was the only person who was professional during the interaction. He ended up stepping in and beginning to process paperwork. While he was processing paperwork the receptionist made direct and aggressive eye contact with me and wouldn’t stop. I was very uncomfortable and I brought it up to the manager filling out the paperwork. The GM named “Eric” overheard what was happening and jumped in, but immediately directed me to “go over there and sit down” in an aggressive tone. I’m sorry… who is the customer here?! I’m also not the one glaring people down EVEN THOUGH there’s been dishonesty on the part of staff. I decided to wait and talk to Eric. When I talked to Eric I brought up being stared down (which the employee did again while I was sitting and waiting) and he immediately tried to gaslight and say that they weren’t staring at me, even though he didn’t see what was happening at all. He was with another member facing the other direction. I asked if we could move somewhere more private to try to de escalate while this was sorted out. We walked over to a different area where I expressed how I was feeling about the interactions. This time, Eric decided to believe that the receptionist had been staring me down, but now said that they had a right to do that. Really? You have a right to stare down your customers? At this point, I had gathered that this was not going to be a productive interaction going forward and asked for a contact above Eric. Eric said that he was the top person. I asked if the club was a franchise. He said “yes”. I asked if he owned the franchise. He first said “yes” I asked again to clarify and he said “no”. I asked for an email to contact someone higher up and he said “I don’t need to give you than information”. At this point, I decided to ask about just cancelling my membership. We walked over to an iPad where he had me put in my barcode number and begin to process the cancellation. I asked if the Park Slope location was under the same management. He (Eric) said “yes”. I asked for the contact information of the person who oversees both locations and he said once again, “I don’t need to give you that information”. At this point, I let Eric know that I had recorded him saying that I would not be able to get the contract info. I did not intend on cancelling my membership, but as a result of gaslighting and abusive behavior by staff, that is what happened. Ultimately, this gym is in a convenient location and it would have been great to not have had this happen. I do not expect to be treated like royalty at a commercial gym. I expect to be treated with some level of respect. I cannot tolerate abusive behavior.

I would strongly advise against joining this gym. I have a friend who also goes to this gym and he recently told me that the front desk staff was rude and that a male staff member made a sexually inappropriate comment about a female member to him.

I am giving this gym a 1 star for their disrespectful behavior. I experience the worst gym experience recently. Although i never write reviews but felt it is best for them to know it is inappropriate to threat their member rudely. I was leaving the gym at 10:05 pm which closes at 10:00pm when 3 of their staff closing came on with loudness and disregards. Also, even before closing the female worker came yelling and banging on the wall like an army general into the dressing room that they weee closing . We were really startled by the aggression. After all, we came to decompose after a long day. Then l. when my friend and I arrived upstairs to leave the young was standing above the step slapping his hand and speaking rudely for us to rush. I asked him to calm down since it was a few minutes. This lead to him and the lady to start yelling at us about leaving late. We told them they are being rude which they ignore us. However, once outside feeling really confused as to why the anger.. Also, we noticed multiple people leaving after us which made us feel especially targeted.

I called the next day to speak to Eric the manager who also made excuses about the time, told me to cancel my membership if I am unhappy then hung up on me.
I am disappointed and sad about the situation. I feel this gym really needs new management so the staffing understands how to treat their members. Also, this really hurts the gym's reputation.

Last,. I wonder if any of this would happen if we were not black and female since this location has mostly white members.. this is not about the timing but really how you should treat people in general.

The gym itself is solid, nothing special but it's got a good weight room and olympic lifting platforms as well as all the cardio stuff you'd expect. I'm giving it a 2 star because, if you book a 2 hour open gym time on ClassPass and show up later than your start time, they don't let you in and won't alter the time or offer a refund. I'm aware that they have written this policy on ClassPass, but I think it's a bad policy (as do others, clearly, as shown by the reviews). If you book 2 hours of independent gym time, what does it matter if you should up 10 minutes into that time slot?

For a price point that’s almost as high as equinox, here’s what you’ll get:
- a water fountain that doesn’t work
- a sauna that is often times not turned on and takes forever to heat up
- the cheapest towels you’ve ever felt that barely wrap around your body
- class instructors who you can barely hear over their low quality mics
- classes that fill up days in advance if you don’t cough up the most expensive membership

The people who work there are nice and cool tho.

DO NOT waste your money & go to this gym. I was harassed by an aggressive man for no reason, went to the front desk to complain, & absolutely nothing was done. All this while they had the nerve to push memberships on me constantly. Also, if you’re a class passer, DO NOT go here. The facility is nice but gets SUPER crowded during peak hours (sometimes you even have to wait for cardio machines). There's been some issues where a bunch of the water fountains don't work (they have been fixed recently though), cleaning wipe dispensers aren't always refilled (this has been an issue recently), and if you're working out in the basement floor you can sometimes hear people on the first floor throwing exercise balls at the floor in the training room.

Most of the equipment is pretty nice but there's definitely a limited supply of some popular machines (only one of leg extensions and pec deck as an example). There's a few random machines that are in somewhat worn condition as well that haven't been fixed yet. Seated leg curl is currently a little weird - the left part of the thing that locks your knees down jiggles around. Some treadmills' fans slowly droop down as you use the machine. Smith machine on the lower floor is wobbly so there's a random 2.5lb plate under the leg to keep it in place lol.

Most of the trainers are pretty nice. There's one trainer who is super obnoxious and screams whenever he lifts but other than him everyone's pretty chill.

It's super annoying that this Crunch doesn't do guest passes though and a day pass is like 30$. Really annoying when a friend is visiting me and we can't go the gym together unless it's their first time going to a Crunch.

I have been a member of planet fitness, crunch (basic), and blink and this gym is by far one of the best. Even though it looks small, there’s enough room and equipment to get your workout done. Everyone here has been extremely kind too. Everything is also sparkling clean, and I have never seen any grime (same can’t be said abt some PF locations I’ve been… sorry, but sometimes that sort of thing really puts a damper on a workout.) Best times to avoid are around 5-7pm weekdays because it is so busy and finding a vacant machine might be difficult.

The "Grand Remodeling" was really just adding a squat rack and arranging the format. Equipment is either outdated or broken most of the time (smith Machine is balanced with a 2.5lb weight on one of its legs lol). Weights are all over the place, there is little sense of structure. Gym puld benefit a lot from an additional machine of each, instead of wasting so much space on an additional "HIIT' area. Overall very disappointed with the remodeling.

I’ve had trainers cancel less than an hour before. It’s just so not worth the money.

After the renovations made, this location is good! I wish there were more machines upstairs along with free weights just for the convenience of doing a superset with dumbbells to a shoulder press machine for example…that’s such a specific criticism though. As far as accessibility for disabled members? I can’t speak to that but I can see why it would be quite difficult for anyone who’s disabled since machines are VERY close together.

Great gym. They need to regulate the sauna as oftentimes it is off when you get there and requires about 30 minutes to reach the necessary temperature. Also, they need to resume their 11pm closing time.

Came in and was welcomed by Nick, who kindly walked me through the member options and amenities for the gym. As a first experience walking in, he’s the type of person you want to be on the other side of the desk.

I always liked this location and the new renovation/reorganization is smart. I wish they would not send the vaccuum squad out during rush hour however. I’ve experienced this in a couple Crunch gym — one guy with a vaccuum is sent out to “clean” and spends an hour hooverjng up nonexistent dust in the middle of people working out. The vacuum should at least be cordless jn this situation bc I’ve seen so many gym goers almost trip over its loong cord: creating a dangerous obstacle course in a tight space where people are moving around very heavy things. Not the fault of the vaccuum guy, but I wish manager wouldn’t tell him he needs to do this when the gym is busy.

Used to be a great local gym. Now it's so inaccessible and dangerous for any person with a vestibular or mobility disability that I don't know if I'll be able to keep my membership. The equipment is too cramped together for my service dog and me to safely navigate.

What's most disappointing is that as I left the gym today, I overheard them say "yes! we're an accessible gym," while pointing to me and my service dog.

Lot's of space and a variety of equipment for any of your exercise needs (check out the tire in the back). Very helpful and friendly staff - especially the front desk workers and trainers. Probably one of the better "commercial gyms" in Brooklyn.

Generally a great gym with a wide selection of equipment. Just be aware that it gets pretty busy during peak times and you may need to wait for machines to open if you’re in a rush. Worse thing is people leaving weights everywhere, but that’s most gyms where it’s not enforced.

Overall a good gym, a little cramped though. People often leave weights all over the place and weights on the barbell. Lots of staff just standing around chatting instead of organizing weights.

This gym is absolutely horrendous. I cancelled my membership in January because it was unkept and over crowded. The gym then proceeded to attempt to charge me at least 6 times. Now they have their attorneys emailing me saying I owe them money which is completely false. This is bad business and ridiculous. DO NOT JOIN.

No major issues with this location - it’s definitely better than cheaper gyms I’ve been to. Gets busy during peak hours (morning before work, after work) but is manageable if you know how to make your way around and be flexible w exercises. Generally haven’t had issues waiting for machines or space much. Front desk staff is always friendly to me. Lots of diff equipment made available and sauna in the locker rooms is a plus.

Can’t comment on the classes since I haven’t been in awhile, but my partner tells me that class schedule/instructors at Fort Greene are pretty bad relative to other Crunch locations.

Had a very negative experience. I am new to the neighborhood and wanted to try out the gym. I had to wait 30 min for someone to even talk to me and show me around. Once I finally got to do that, I was then told I couldn't do a trial because I was a member 2 years ago at the crown heights location 2 years ago and it wasn't a signature location. Ended up wasting an hour of my time just waiting and it wasn't worth the $36 for the day pass. Will not be signing up. It's an ok gym, not worth the signature status.

Not quite as nice as the other Crunch Signature locations I've been. The layout is weird, with equipment and workout rooms all spread out in different rooms with sales desks between them. I feel like I need a map or a full on tour of this place. The machine room feels a little dark and basement-y. Also feels a little more crowded than other gyms.

I used to love this gym, like John Legend’s “baby when I used to love you, there’s nothing that i wouldn’t do”. I had my first crunch membership in 2005 at their now closed flagship gym on Layfayette in Manhattan. I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years. I now literally live across the street from this gym. There is nothing going on. This was at one time the premier Brooklyn location, now it’s less popping than the Crunch Essentials. This location has less classes than Crunch Essentials in Brooklyn with a price-tag 5 times more, literally 5 times more. It’s starting not to make sense. All industries are recovering post Covid. In the Fall my membership was raised to cover rising costs, but we have less amenities and higher monthly dues. This makes no sense from the customer’s perspective. I like so many Fort Greene residents don’t know how much longer I will be a member if they don’t start to improve. More classes with quality instructors are what people want most. Something in the morning before work and something in the afternoon right after work. Politics are killing this gym. There are two instructors who have no idea what they’re doing. How they still maintain multiple classes on the schedule while excellent instructors have their classes cut defies logic. When I say these instructors don’t know what their doing, I’m a physical therapist who has spent more years than I’d like to admit becoming proficient with the musculoskeletal system, they really don’t know what they’re doing. Sometimes people may go to these lackluster classes because they are literally the only class on the schedule the entire morning on specific days, but they are so horrible, I don’t bother. My constructive criticism to the management. Go back to basics.Bring good instructors for morning chisel or morning spin before work. Bring good instructors for afternoon chisel or afternoon spin. The word will spread and people will come. If a manager is not the best instructor for a particular class, do not have them instructing that class. Clients will become turned off and look for alternatives. Merit based group fitness teaching opportunities. There was an excellent Diesel instructor on Monday mornings, she’s gone, the entire class is gone, but the Tuesday morning class which consistently has less attendees is still alive and well.

Stay away. The Fort Greene Crunch will scam you and will not provide the services you pay for. I joined and paid for personal training classes that I could not take due to the canceled sessions from trainers, and the gym couldn't staff trainers. After months of trying to get a refund and providing all paperwork they requested to their Operations Manager, they ghosted me completely. I never received my refund for their inability to provide personal training. Writing a review seems extra, but honestly, this was an expensive disservice I do not wish on others. You are better off at Chelsea Piers or the YMCA. I wanted to like this gym because it was so close to home but if you live in Fort Greene, avoid it.

Small gym, top floor is ground floor level & weights are in the cellar so there are no windows ect. However if you are a true gym rat this shouldn't matter & might serve as inspiration. They have a tire to flip upstairs which is rare for a commercial gym. It used to be empty during off peak times (not before 9 or after 5) not so much anymore. Used to stay opened later than many other locations too, until 11:00 or 2300, not anymore.

Having been to several other Crunches around the city and Brooklyn, I'm pretty sure this is one of the worst ones.

It's not the staff or anything. It's the small space, nonsensical layout and selection/amount of equipment.

Basically it's much smaller and has far less equipment than a lot of the other locations. There can be 10 people at this gym and it still feels crowded, especially in the absolute dungeon of a free weights area in the basement. Somehow you're always in someone's way or they're in yours.

Why is it the same price as the other locations? It's an inferior experience. It should cost half as much.

This location, probably, will be bought out soon to build rapidly expanding high rise in this area like it happened to 23 street location in Manhattan. That explains their discount membership and luck of customer service. However if you join make sure you interrogate managers what will be total fees you will pay. I was pushed to upgrade my membership on the last day of a month from essential to signature and ended up paying for two month dues for both clubs in full, basically paying for the entire month of the signature club I have not even set my foot in and for the essential club that I will no longer attend. When I contacted costumer service they just replied it’s miscommunication and did not offer reimbursement for the overlapping dues I paid for both locations for 2 month. I am sure owners are going to write below that they are sorry to hear that and blah blah blah, but based on other reviews below, I understand, it’s a common thing for this location.
