The gym is good (albeit a bit short on machines) but the real problem here is the clientele—no one here wears deodorant. Just pit smell galore

I enjoy this location, cleanlines, and friendliness of the staff (Harbor gets a big thumbs down for friendliness). The hours are pretty pretty good too. I try to go off peak as it can get too busy for my tastes at peak times.

I don't get all of the negative reviews to be honest. The place is super clean and staff has been nice to me. Do they have less equipment than some others? Yes, but the gym gets the job done, and there's never a crazy wait for weights or machines. My only wish would have been for the recovery machines to be accessible to ppl with the one club only membership (it's only available for those with all access).

You're better off across the street. They treat their staff like they aren't human beings, management is abysmal, and the equipment is just not at all up to a reasonable standard.

Came to sign up for a membership and was completely discouraged by the receptionist’s attitude. Not sure if this guy was upset that my inquiry took him away from his cell phone but he was extremely rude. Horrible energy as if his having to do his job upset him. So much to where I simply said I’m going to go across the street to Harbor Fitness, “I don’t think like your attitude.” His response was, “ yeah I don’t like you either. I didn’t come for you, I came for the gym/business. Harbor Fitness got my business because of this miserable employee. Amèn

Honestly, take yourself up to Crunch Park Slope if you're a brand loyalist but for sure your money is better spent at any other gym in general.
Peak hours are from 6 PM till close since the gym is always mega crowded until like 30 minutes to ten, particularly with folks who spend way too much time between sets. That's not on the member though, it's managements fault for having a poorly equipped location.
Considering the miserable inventory of equipment: two benches for (barbell) chest presses, the ONE deadlift platform, and the ONE other squat rack, and you have yourself a sinkhole for time and money. Not to fret though, there's a plethora of machines that folks don't actually use!
This location likely runs at cheaper than market rate for membership because it's smaller than Park Slope or FiDi; it's probably why so many people go here. It also means that college kids and twenty-somethings tend to fill up the place. Not sure how that impacts your workout, but it's not for me. Pretty sure there's a sub-Reddit out there of better locations that are worth the time and money.

I really like this location-- the women's locker room is generally clean, it's usually not too packed (save for the first month or two each year) and desk staff are typically professional and nice. I don't need a gym full time, but it's a go to on Classpass.

Every time I’m here I remember why I’d go to almost any other crunch in the city.
Limited selection of machines and the music volume is so unnecessarily loud.
I shouldn’t be able to hear it over my AirPods blasting in my ears.
Also might be the only gym in North America that for some reason doesn’t have a smith machine.
Honestly traveling out of my way to Ft Greene or even into the city is better than working out at this location.
They’re lucky Harbor doesn’t have even decent shower/locker room facilities because if they did I’d never step foot in a crunch again.

They only care about money. The free day pass they claim to offer (as well as every other crunch in the US) is not honored. They tried to charge me $25 at the door. I wasted too much time trying to talk to the incompetent workers. Aside from that, the facility is the smallest out of all of them in NYC and the machines are old and outdated.

If you enjoy being charged for services you’ll never receive, the South Slope Crunch is the place for you. After I canceled my membership, they still charged me a $93 annual fee—meant to cover the upcoming year, which I won’t be using. When I questioned it, their response was basically, “Yeah, we do that. It’s our policy.”
Let’s be clear: charging an “annual fee” after a cancellation isn’t just shady—it’s a blatant cash grab. Their cancellation process seems designed to extract more money from members, and management doesn’t seem to care when you call them out on it.
Save yourself the frustration—go to a gym that actually values its members and doesn’t nickel-and-dime you on the way out.

I love this gym, it's making me into a middle aged gym rat! Christian, the manager, is the loveliest person and he runs a tight ship. The staff members are all just so kind and welcoming and helpful and it's probably the cleanest gym I've been to. The classes are amazing and wide-ranging (shout out to Lenoa, she teaches Burn and Firm and she's incredibly motivating, entertaining, playful and vivacious and the class is really challenging yet accessible).
It's not the biggest Signature Crunch and they don't have a dedicated spin classroom (though this accounts for the cheaper membership fee than at some other Signature Crunches), but the vibe is awesome and the layout is much more streamlined than at some of the other signature branches. I've tried a bunch of gyms in the area over the years (all three of the closest YMCAs, Equinox in Brooklyn Heights, Harbor, even Planet Fitness) and this hits such a sweet-spot compared to any of the other gyms (and is in the middle price-wise). As stated, the classes are incredible (as good as at some very fancy studios), staff friendly, amenities pretty sweet , there's almost never a broken machine and a nice variety of them, it's clean, there's a lot of natural light in the cardio and weight lifting rooms, and the members of this gym are also usually very easy-going.
I also love the sweatshed/HIIT workout area! I had taken a two year break from exercise after a very serious car accident and getting fit again in such an inviting space surrounded by lovely people is really moving to me. I'm just extremely impressed.
Update: Just bought a three-pack of training sessions and took my first with Tyree. He was amazing! he met me where I was, was extremely motivating and knowledgable (who knew I was deadlifting all wrong, formally putting tremendous strain on my lower back I feel so much better with his adjustments), asked what my priorities were and tailored the session beautifully to fulfill them... I couldn't be more impressed! I missed our first appt (an emergency with my ailing mom), wrote him to say just deduct the session, I'm so sorry, and this lovely human being tells me in person he is absolutely giving me that third session. I always feel so cared for at this weirdly wonderful gym.

I come to this gym because it's convenient to my home, but that's it. The trainers have been rude to me (I'm not even engaging them - they've just approached me and insulted me), a class instructor yelled at me for not working harder when my heart rate was spiking, and the classes are mediocre (I've enjoyed the yoga classes, but the others are lacking and there aren't many of them.)

It’s such a shame how much this place has declined in quality over the past few years. I’ve been a satisfied Crunch member for over a decade, and a patron of this specific location for about five years. But what’s happening here on a regular basis now is just totally unacceptable. The amount of equipment and machinery that is consistently malfunctioning and out of service is simply outrageous. And whenever something does inevitably go down, it takes literally months for the operations staff to address and fix it. This is a place that doesn’t have enough treadmills to begin with, so when two or three machines are down for weeks at a time it has a massive impact on the overall functionality of the space. The staff acts contrite when approached, but nothing is done to address the issues. There are better ways, and better places, to spend your money. This is a gym to avoid.

Honestly,, why anyone would join a gym with ONE deadlift platform is beyond me. Peak hours are a pain at any gym, but this place is like 1000 sq ft on a good day, so good luck getting anything done when there's more than 8 people in the room. Try your luck at a larger location or the gym across the street.

If you’re currently looking for a gym to start your New Year’s resolutions this isn’t it. 3 out of 12 treadmills are currently broken. The tv channels are non existent unless you’re into watching spectrum news or PBS children’s shows. Twice I’ve seen and heard people taking work calls loudly while on the bikes. Look elsewhere for a gym. I know I will.

Most people you see working here are simply staring at their phones. Meanwhile, half of the members really need some kind of supervision. One trainer was using the equipment improperly. I can't recommend this gym. But it seems like a great place to work. Since you don't really have to do anything.

This is the closest crunch location to me, so I frequent it the most often. Overall, it’s a great and clean gym, although it’s on the smaller side. I do wish the facilities were managed more often, I’ve been coming across empty wipes containers lately, and i think that’s important to remove any boundaries to ensure folks are cleaning up their station after use.
I also come attend the classes downstairs often, I wish there were more scheduled for after work hours on weekdays. There is a good variety of classes, and I do see that the offerings are changed from time to time so hopefully that means they’re taking and evaluating feedback. I love the Zumba/ dance fitness classes here. I wish the yoga classes on weekend mornings with Lillian were more beginner friendly and calming (personally not a fan of the loud pop music blasting at 9am and also wish she demonstrated each pose). I always opt for a yoga studio nearby instead but wish I could attend a more conventional yoga class here out of convenience.

This could be a 4 star rating, but it’s Saturday at 9am and it’s closed! It’s supposed to open at 7am. There were over a dozen people outside calling the manager and other locations with no resolve. This happens waaaay too often then it should. My whole morning is wasted. Otherwise the gym is clean, but small with limited equipment and lots of wasted space.

I've been asking to have music turned down by the staff several times but it never gets turned down. One staff person said he can't control it so there is nothing he can do. 🤷♂️
I wrote as the message said and the response was that they can't change the volume because it's too complex a decision. Why aren't staff empowered to provide good customer service?

I give zero, terrible service from the employee who attends the entrance. I come to ask him for the favor that I want to pay for a month, from the gym and he tells me that he does not know Spanish, that he cannot translate for me since I do not know English, but I am passing him my cell phone so that he can do me a favor and translate and he says no, he's not going to translate and he continues speaking in English, and I tell him a second time more clearly because I thought he hadn't understood me perhaps, I told him I need to pay for a month from gym can you help me? I have been referred by an employee of yours to find out about the gym with whom he works, and they treat their new clients with very bad attention, I preferred to leave, why do you know that it is open, Google to show me the value of the month and he continues to speak to me in English and he goes on and on and I tell him please translate, in Google and they know that it says that not knowing that from the computer he can open translator and communicate with me, that is, why do I have to put up with that if I am the one who is going to pay with all due respect, Mr. Owner or administrator, that leaves a lot to be said about this gym, tenacious, I demand that the administrator see the cameras seriously, how sad, I don't want him to be fired either, I don't want that either, but give priority to your clients, before that bad treatment, I don't care I recommend

The membership advisor (an older bald man) I talked to on Monday 12 PM was so rude and hostile. I signed up for a three day pass since I work in the area, since I’m young, he starts interrogating me in front of everyone. I was in a rush and didn’t feel like giving him my whole life story, but was willing to get a tour the next day. He rudely questions me while interrogating my ID. They just lost a potential customer, I shouldn’t feel like I have to explain my intentions before I even tried out the machines. To Harbor Fitness I go.

The quality of this gym has gone downhill. When I started this gym was clean and all amenities were stocked. One of the managers walked around the gym making sure everything was racked, you can tell that he really cared about the gym.
Now the male locker room is dirty. The lockers have a visible level of grime on the bottom of them. There’s a locker that has had the same clothes in it since the summer. And there is no more rituals amenities (the bottles are refilled with some cheap soap). Yesterday there wasn’t any shampoo or soap in the showers! That’s unsanitary. The wall sanitizer dispensers haven’t been refilled in ages. There are missing clips for bars which led to heavy plates falling on the floor while someone was working out more than once.
I’ve filled out many feedback surveys but clearly no one reads them.
The worst part is that this gym increased their monthly membership fee by $5 because of the recession. I didn’t know that an extra $5 would include a reduction in quality.
Members beware, the new management here doesn’t care.

This is a great well-maintained gym that has what I need and more (i.e. deadlift station, squat rack, dumbbells and kettlebells, various machines). Even during busy times, I can comfortably workout. The attendees are respectful of each other, and the staff are friendly. The cleaning staff do a great job with keeping the place clean and restocking towels.
Unlike another gym I checked out near me, I don't feel cramped or suffocated at this gym. I appreciate the high ceilings and brightness of the top floor. The ground floor has a turf area with more equipment, and the basement has a nice mirrored studio space.

I joined Crunch Gym around towards the ending of January at the South Slope location. At first I was hesitant, because I didn't want to feel like another statistic of the new years resolution group.
Since I have been on my weightloss journey even before the new year, I needed to get that extra boost in what I have already lost. So I figured, sure why not join. And I'm glad I did.
So the sales rep named Anthony was super nice, and not only that, he was patient as well. He actually wasn't trying to sell me the membership, but rather was genuine thoughtful of my needs and wants. He asked me what my goals were, and broke it down for me.
Anthony gave me a tour of the facility showed me the equipment and tons of free weights. The facility is very clean! And it's in a nice and safe neighborhood too. The staff is also very laid back and chill.
I asked Anthony about cardio and possible trainers, he showed me the cardio machines (which there are a decent amount actually) not something I expected because being a former member at PF their stuff is trash.
The crunch at South Slope has 3 floors, the middle floor being the entrance area, then down stairs is where the locker rooms are and even an area to workout in front of a large mirror. Upstairs is where the fitness equipment is located.
Honestly if it wasn't for Anthony showing me the facility but more importantly asking me directly what my goals are and what is it that I truly wanted to accomplish for my mind and my body, I don't think I would have joined. Since I started getting back on my fitness journey, no one (including myself) has ever asked me that question directly. Sure we say we want to do this or that etc. But realistically most people fail because they're not being realistic.
And I think I'm on the right track, since joining I've already lost 12lbs. Was there yesterday and even saw Anthony.
I feel if you're wanting to join a gym for the long term, this is it. The staff is friendly and receptive to your needs, the location is at a nice and safe neighborhood and its clean. And they even check your temperature and make sure everyone is social distancing, and wearing mask for added protection against Covid. They're doing the right thing.
I make the trip every Saturday from where I live in Harlem, just to go to that location. Because I like it there.
So thanks to crunch gym and the staff, and Anthony for being a part of my fitness and weightloss journey. Every bit helps.

Anthony was awesome, very welcoming and knowledgeable. I wanted to make sure the gym was clean (hello covid protocols) and worth the investment (these are tough times) ~ Anthony was really helpful and patient and I really appreciate his help! Looking forward to trying out crunch this month and a personal trainer. THANK YOU ANTHONY 🙏

Solid location, one of my favorite Crunch clubs. Very clean, always room - never have to wait for machines. Anthony is a GM there, he's on it to keep the club clean.

My husband and I both followed the procedure outlined on the Crunch website in order to cancel our memberships in June. We called to follow up when Crunch reopened in September. We were then charged for September and then again for October. I have called a total of eight times in order to get this issue resolved, the last three times requesting to speak to a manager. Each time, I was reassured that I would be refunded and the last three times, I was told that a manager would follow up and call me back ASAP. I have yet to hear from a manager (it has been ten days since I requested to speak to one) and we are still owed money from Crunch. I understand that Crunch is likely dealing with a number of cancelations and that this is a difficult time, but at this point it’s simply inappropriate and unprofessional on the part of Crunch and the management of this specific Crunch that I have not received a call back from the manager and that my husband and I are owed money from memberships that we canceled four months ago.

Pretty good equipment, a nice environment, and great trainers there! but the customer service when you try to cancel or freeze your membership is the worst you can imagine! Let alone refunds.
I have got charged twice in two weeks on different bank accounts. There are an illicitly active one of my cards which I submitted a few years ago when I was the first time member of the Crunch! Now, Daniel emailed me that my membership is canceled but refuses to refund it and doesn't even mention the other card I got charged illegally!!!!
I am really sorry about writing the negative comment on here but I hope that helps the other people who might get the same issue.
P.S as I see I am not the first one who got the same issue though!

Have been a member here for a bit. Unremarkable gym that has enough equipment to get the job done. But, if you ever need assistance from a manager or need to cancel your membership—forget it. Only the operations manager can cancel your membership or refund you for an erroneous charge, but he only works at this location 1-2 days a week. You can try to email him, but he seems to not get back to anyone—I’ve sent five emails and no response. No one else that works at the location can help. So, you are truly out of luck if you need anything corrected with your account. Steer clear unless you are ok with a lack of communication and customer service.
UPDATE: Crunch responded to this review with an email address to contact to get this issue resolved. It appears they did that solely for optics because I have emailed twice over the past week and gotten no response again. Additionally have followed up with their operations manager multiple times with no response—but they did manage to charge me again. My husband has also emailed to cancel his membership and gotten no response in a month. It’s very clear Crunch is responding to this review to look as if they have strong customer service—but do not be fooled.

Not the fanciest or "spa-like" gym but it's never too crowded, the staff is very friendly, and it's clean (and offers towels). I've gone to a couple NYC gyms and this is by far the least crowded I've seen (even during after work hours)...which is amazing.

Not a fan of their machines and small location size. For it to be a signature club it don't have a sauna or stem room, another minus. I like the workout equipment like the jump ropes and yoga bands that's available for use. The staff is friendly and the location is convenient for those who live in the area. Good place to get a quick hassel free workout.

Friendly staff, clean workout areas, good classes, and great showers. Really enjoy being a Crunch member and regularly recommend joining to others. Olympic lifting platform upstairs, two squat racks, plyometrics space w/heavy bag, no spinning classes (but a few spin bikes available), free weights, etc. Stop in for a free guest pass to check it out

Hey guys.
Yeah this gym is totally awesome.
My boi Peg is truly a dude with customer service skills. Unlike other places where I was a member with.
The only reason I have it a 4 star is because as a serious lifter there's a limit to the amount of equipment to hit a variety of muscle groups. But I manage to compensate coming up with other means to hit muscle groups.
Also the free weight/bench has limited space which you have to move a bench to keep from being near the bathroom and facility closet along not to be so close to the dumbbell rack.
But over all total awesome gym.

This is a great gym with a lot of clean and new equipment- only reason I give it 4 stars is because there is not enough squat racks - only 1 Olympic weightlifting one - which is used ALL the time and you have to wait for it. And another basic one with a bar that isn’t as good as the oly one. Great gym if you go when it’s not crowded.

Decent facility. But they make it difficult to quit/leave the gym. Even after giving them 30 days notice and had pre-paid the final month, they charged my card for another $65 and would not refund it.

Nobody wants their card charged without their knowledge or consent. I had autopay set up, which worked fine for the first few months I was a member. Then, spontaneously, they started taking the money out of my account on the 5th of the month and charging me a late fee for their own tardiness. When they couldn’t manage to fix the problem after four months of the repeating issue and my attempts at communicating and fixing said issue, I asked to have my card removed from the account as I would pay them cash. Well, apparently they take that as an invitation to double charge me because now they’re charging my card, the one I asked to be removed from their records, as well as taking my cash payment. Just a wild guess: If they aren’t able to sort these problems out for people, I won’t be the only one with a recently canceled membership.

The gym is OK. Generally clean. The layout of equipment can definitely be improved upon. For example, there is a section of astro turf randomly in the middle of the gym floor. Their first floor area is really wasted on a wobbly monkey bar structure and has a boxing bag attached which makes the entire room shake when someone uses it. They could use an additional 1-2 squat racks since many times both are taken - be contrasted with the four bench presses that are mostly empty.
There is only one cable setup. There are definitely better places to go but the location is most convenient for me. I think about changing gyms every month but ha e kept going here for the location and just try to make it work.

Absolutely fantastic gym. Signed up about two months ago and I could not be happier with my choice. The energy, vibe and atmosphere at Crunch South Slope is like none other. It makes you feel alive being inside . The upkeep of the gym is unmatched , and you will pretty much always see their hard working employees cleaning up making sure everything is neat and tidy. They have a wide range of equipment and most of it is new and updated machines you won't see at other gyms. The showers and locker rooms are clean and have everything you need except a steam/sauna room. As if all of that wasn't enough , the employees and other members are all friendly . Lastly , the facility usually isn't overcrowded and I am always able to get my workout routine done in a timely fashion as opposed to having to constantly wait a long time for others to finish up with the desired space or equipment you want to use . I highly recommend this gym.

Clean gym with usually friendly staff and great fitness classes. It’s obviously not your fancy equinox but you get what you pay for and I feel it’s totally worth the money. Tara , Lanoa and Jason are all awesome instructors! They also offer a free trial 3 day pas if you first want to try it out before joining.

The space is new, super clean, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. In addition to cardio, free weights and machine areas, they have a great training area with kettlebells, TRX, battle ropes, "turf", etc. I've belonged to other Crunch gyms and their prices were very expensive for their location, but Crunch South Slope has an appropriate price tag to match the space and location, so that's great! It never seems too crowded either. Definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the Park Slope area.
