The mail lockrooms are unironically somewhat falling apart. Multiple single type of machines will be taken up for long periods of time and to cancel you need to come in person. They don't do it online or via phone. Also not 24 hours. Just leave the lights on bro. I'm not going to lift multiple hundreds a pound of equipment out your front door

My Crunch Fitness location is on 100 Youngs Street in Tonawanda, NY 14150 is the one I go to when I workout and this gym is the one I want to talk to you all about. A lot of bad things on this posting.
The front desk staff at my location seem to always be texting on their cell phones when I go into the gym. I notice it a lot when I have a question to ask them because It’s like their staff doesn’t want to help you and all they do is stand behind the desk texting anyways. The staff is so rude at this particular Crunch location and it needs a lot of help with their customer service. They need to fire some of their staff there and hire some new staff that knows how to talk to people and be customer service friendly and interact with clients.
One of there leg extension machines there is so hard to even get on because it’s literally almost on top of the one wall where you need to get on the machine. You really can’t get on or off of the machine. It’s almost impossible for the elderly to get on and off of which is an even a bigger safety risk for them. A lot of the machines there have a lot of safety issues as well because they are so close together to each other it’s ridiculous. They did all this new renovation to get new people to join but they did a bad job of putting equipment where it should go and the setup is horrible.
The weekend staff there almost always never have soap in the dispensers in the men’s locker room and when I did mentioned it to one of the weekend guy’s at the front desk he told me what do you want me to do about it because I’m the only one here and I don’t know where the soap is anyways. I mentioned it to the Manager too but nothing changed there Just very rude. Sauna never get’s cleaned and I saw a dirty q tip on the floor there.
You spend all this extra money that is extra money and there is no maintenance being done because half the lockers are filthy inside and half of the lockers are broken and they never get fixed so where does this maintenance money go just in there pockets?
I have been a member forever but it is just sickening to have all this at this gym.
There is no accountability there and that just sad. That is what I wanted to say.
I don’t want to go to a different gym but it makes you think twice about doing it with all these issues there.

Cari was a fantastic first impression. She kindly and immediately helped me get checked in for a free pass. I liked the atmosphere and welcoming energy at this gym and I didn't even know they had a Sauna so that was the cherry on top. I ended up joining and am excited to continue my fitness journey! Thanks Crunch Team!

Side note - members aren't the best about racking their weights.. i find myself picking up weights and attachments just to help out. Let's help eachother!

Management is awful and lack staff communication. I did personal training and when I ended it, they overcharged me for another month because the manager never did the paperwork. I tried contacting the manager on several occasions just for the staff to send me on a wild goose chase from location to location, until I finally got ahold of him after a month of trying. Then, he ended up canceling my entire membership rather than just the training without telling me. The entire thing was a huge headache and unprofessional.

On a smaller note, I left something behind at the gym and had to ask three separate staff members on three separate occasions to check their lost and found for it for them to finally get it back to me when they had it the whole time. They all looked in different places so it seems there is no set designated area or anything for lost items, or at least the staff aren’t all on the same page about it.

I had a good time with my personal trainer Alexia. She was professional, kind, and was able to help me through training even with my health issues. I also enjoyed the separate area for HIIT training because it’s more private since they unfortunately decided to get rid of the women’s only section. These are the only reasons I gave any stars. I rarely write reviews but this whole process has been an awful experience and I want to be able to bring it to people’s attention.

Like other reviews have said, the renovations were nice, but this place has gone downhill over the last year since the last manager left. First, I can't remember the last time I walked in and someone said hi. All the front desk workers tend to be more occupied with their phones or with each other. I've even seen people walk in without scanning in on multiple occasions, and staff not even looking up. It's as if nobody cares or pays attention anymore. Second, when the last manager was here a year ago, equipment was picked up and put away regularly. You saw staff walking through the gym every hour to make sure it was somewhat orderly. Now, there's garbage everywhere and as dusty as all can be. Locker rooms are pitiful. And it doesn't help that the equipment is so close together that it makes it hard to walk through (which aren't there ADA requirements for this??), on top of tripping over left-out equipment. Third, despite the renovation, things are falling apart. The cables still do not have half of the weight labels on them, attachments are borderline unsafe, the new equipment racks in the old court area have pieces falling off, and the turf near cardio has a huge gaping hole in the wall. That's just to name a few. Fourth, there never seems to be a consistent manager there anymore. Sometimes there is one, and sometimes there isn't. Up until last year, the last manager was there every day, being welcoming and kind to each member who walked in. You could tell she cared. It seems like this location is just surviving by the skin of its neck now. I tried a day pass at the Catalyst across the street, and I now see why so many people cancelled their memberships at Crunch. They know what they're doing over there, and Crunch could take some pointers. Not sure how much longer I can stay a member here. I love my fellow members and have enjoyed the community, but this place is run awfully from club-level management to upper management (because how can you allow this??). I'm asking that this review please be taken seriously and these issues be solved, not just for me but for your entire member base.

Overall, gym is very nice after the remodel. The maintenance staff, Emma, deserves a promotion, has great hustle (true work ethic). Friendly staff overall. Lots of machines, bit tightly packed, but a necessary tradeoff, depending on how you look at it. Enjoy your workouts everyone. Stay strong 💪. Hope this short review helps.

Good amenities, good machines but SO many issues. The machines are too close together, it’s a safety issue. Weights and supplies are just left out all the time. It’s always super busy, and takes forever to get a lift in during peak hours. No toilet paper in the women’s locker room on several occasions, and they won’t always post a sign if a male is cleaning on the women’s side, which is jarring. All in all, I prefer Sheridan or Niagara Falls far more

I have been trying to freeze my membership for weeks now. I’ve called, I’ve followed the directions when calling which was to email the manager, I’ve followed up on that email, and I’ve filled out the form on their app. Still nothing. I need to freeze due to literally being out of the country for weeks and would like to return to this gym, (which now I’m second guessing) I work at a gym but still choose to attend workout at this specific crunch. But by working in the gym I also know the new laws passed in NYS about being able to easily cancel and freeze memberships over the phone which they have not been doing. I’ve never had problems until this, but this is a big problem due to it costing me money. Again I’m not in the country and won’t be for awhile.

The music is way too loud and the group fitness instructors leave their trash everywhere and are always trying to kick everyone out of the boxing room during classes. So paying members can't be trusted to do anything but staff can disrespect the place? They also didn't fix the womens locker room AT ALL. They repainted a single wall. What was the point of renovating? When Catalyst opens down the street I have a feeling many members will go there.

I’ve been going here for years. It’s close to where I live. But whyyyyyyyy did they have to take away the women’s section. I feel like I got to workout in peace there. I know it’s not just me. Did they see it as discrimination to men? Even though there is no one out right harassing you. It provided a space where you generally didn’t have to worry about that. The new stuff is nice but also seems like there’s a good amount of open space to where there still could have been a small women section. Anyways whoever designed this you get a “F” and a lot of unhappy women. I don’t think there’s another gym currently in Buffalo that provides women only. Or at least close to me. Otherwise I would switch asap. Idk maybe some women aren’t bothered. But for me and especially when I’m doing certain exercises. I rather NOT be in a mans view

Crunch offered a free kickoff with a personal trainer as part of signing up. I scheduled a time slot with Alexia and she was fantastic. She’s incredibly personable and you can tell she cares about her clients. I’d like to note she’s also very educated on fitness and her years of schooling along with dedication shines through when speaking to her. I’d recommend anyone looking to have that support and guidance upon starting their journey to meet with Alexia.

Claim they spent a million dollars for maybe a dozen new machines and some orange paint... but every locker in the changing room is busted, holes everywhere, place is filthy all the time even though all the work is done. They never bothered to clean the dust. Removed basketball and womens area to build a bunch of rooms people aren't allowed to use unless they pay more. Not a comfortable or welcoming environment anymore. Honestly super disappointed that the clients had to put up with 6 months of construction for this.

been a member for over a year and i wish i would’ve just signed up somewhere else because i only got to enjoy it for a few months. with the renovation they took away the women’s only section, which was a big reason i came. they got rid of the women’s section to add a rest and recovery session that only the highest paying members can use… i spent 6 months in this crappy gym that was a mess due to renovations just to not get to enjoy all the benefits. other women and myself have made comments about this and they deleted my comments off of instagram multiple times :) they say the renovations was to benefit members but as far as i know and have been many reviews…members aren’t happy! prob gonna change gyms soon

I travel for work so I have a multi gym membership that I can use anywhere. I’ve visited locations in Atlanta, NJ and in the DC area. I’ve been using this location since November and it’s been very disappointing. I don’t mind the renovation and I can work with the conditions, but since November there have been nothing but problems with the sauna in the men’s locker room. It was out of service for nearly a month and now that it’s available the temperature is only 125-130F (dry saunas should run between 150-170F). Each time that I’ve complained about the sauna to staff the answer I get is usually that they don’t know anything about it but they’ll write it down.

My experience of going to the gym the few times I did was fine. But when you call cancel, and the person on the line is like “yup you’re all good”, they’ll continue to charge your card until your bank has to stop the charges. Then, they’ll harass you for payment because you went to your bank. Money hungry corporation. I will not support or recommend this establishment to anyone ever again.

I have been going to this gym for about 2 years. The space and equipment was good until the remodel which is taking a long time to complete. However I tried to cancel my son’s membership and upgrade my membership for the pass 3 months. I filled out the paperwork twice and I’m still trying to get this straightened out. In the mean time they are still charging my credit card for this. There is not phone number to talk with any management or customer service to fix this. Only an email address. No one at the desk is capable of doing anything with an account. This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They are all about charging your credit card even after cancellation. This company appears to be a money grab or a scam offering a lower cost gym membership and continue to charge you even after you sign their cancellation paperwork 3 months ago and the people at the desk explained that most likely I will not receive a refund to my credit card so this must be a common occurrence with this gym. I am disputing these charges with my credit card company. Stay away, this hassle is not worth the cost.

I’ve been trying to be patient with the renovation of this gym. I started about a year and a half ago and proved to be consistent, as I loved the setup of this gym. We had hiccups at first with the gym not being open on time, but Since new management, this has gotten a lot better. I saw the change and got excited about the future of this gym. Still, even with the in-commodity, they have managed to stay open, and I am grateful for that. My only complaint is that knowing the limited space, the staff does not consider sharing space, and by staff, I only talk about a specific instructor who is given a class on a Saturday at 9 AM. I only needed a corner to stretch out, and I was kicked out because a class was being offered. I understand this can potentially be dangerous, and I did not mind moving, but being kicked out entirely from the space wasn’t considered, knowing the limited amount of space. From hearing Staff complaining about people going too early when the gym opens at 5 AM, bathrooms being disgusting, a limited amount of space, and now staff not being considered when you are paying to go to this gym, I think it is wild. I hope this gym returns to a five-star once it’s done, and management doesn’t see it as bashing but constructively criticizing. As a manager, I know it could be hard to please people; I can testify to this. We need to be better in times like this; not knowing what to do and not caring about your customers is not inviting. I know this doesn’t represent management, but I hope they can do something about it, since the Front Desk couldn’t help. For this day, I will be going somewhere else, but I hope to return to better treatment.

Been working out here since earlier this year. 2 guys that always close are the rudest people I’ve ever met honestly. One of them signed me up for a higher account with guest pass and didn’t note it for anyone and the other 2 days later said I don’t have a guest pass after upgrading my fee. Told him I lost my wallet and asked if he had Apple Pay and made it impossible to work with me. Had me struggling to figure out a plan and say “it’s just $16.99” while trying to search for a card. He then told me after trying to scramble he can take the numbers and he guesses I have a pass.

Good gym- > awful employees who sit around at night and work out or watch tv instead of greeting.

I rejoined this gym when I moved home last year, mainly for familiarity and its affordability and space compared to some other local gyms. Whenever I've gone, it's been pretty clean inside, and people are good about wiping down used equipment. My only issue is there always seems to be clips/pins missing from machines around the last tower/cable racks. Other than my petty issue with that, it's still worth the value with the machinery available, and it just comes down to knowing what times it gets crowded.

This gym offers a lot in terms of equipment, training spaces (basketball court, group ex room, women’s only area, turf), kids club, tanning, and hydro bed…. However the layout is INFURIATING. I say this as someone who has specifically been employed to assess ADA accessibility of training spaces, and managed more than one gym/personal training studio. The layout makes absolutely no sense at all. The footprint of the gym is long and narrow which is less than ideal, but given that footprint, you’d think more thought would be put into where equipment was placed and how it was grouped.
Broken equipment takes up valuable real estate, and racks are placed far apart so plates end up cluttering the floor every where. Equipment is so close together it’s uncomfortable. The gym would do better to have less equipment and more space to accommodate flow of traffic and adequate storage. The turf is overflowing with scattered tires, steppers, and foam rollers that seemingly don’t have a place to be stored.

Please please please reconsider your layout. Get a professional to come in and revamp the floor— someone with weight room design experience and knowledge of basic ADA accessibility.

Also, fill the soap dispensers and sanitizing spray bottles!

If you are a person of color I would advise you to pick another gym. I was just notified after not getting my side of the story that I am no longer allowed to come to this gym after they took my monthly membership fees ,I’m pretty sure it is because of the color of my skin because no one asked what happened or how I was affected by a situation that occurred a few weeks back. It’s sad because “Karen’s” are taken over this country one day by day it really makes me 🤢

To be 100% honest I have been a patron of this gym for over a year and I was planning to leave due to the poor management/maintenance. When I signed up I told her I had 3 kids that would be in childcare and at no point did she tell me my membership only included one child and I had to pay $5 a day for each additional child. I really like crunch, better than planet fitness in my opinion, but I give it four stars due to when they are in their last hour of closing, they will have 30 minutes left and will shut the lights off in the women’s section which I understand why but is a little unfortunate and disappointing especially when trying to finish a workout and the lights get shut down on you.

I’ve been coming here for a few months and actually really like this location but I have to say along with quite a few other people, there’s a bit that could be better. There’s only 2 smith machines and the one in the woman’s only has been broken since I joined 5 months ago, I understand things take longer to get but it genuinely is a major piece to many workouts and with already some limited space to try an altering the workout without machine it’s becoming quite the pain. Some staff has been great and then there are days like today where the front desk is nowhere to be found or sitting on his phone in the office and literally saw me standing at the counter and continued on his phone and then nods his head up as if I’m supposed to yell into the office from the front desk what I would like.. they don’t seem concerned when you mention the inconveniences your having either. And things have been completely dusty and dirty lately which is annoying since we’ve come to like the gym so much in the beginning to see how it’s just not being maintained as well as some could be

Decent gym to workout at. Terrible experience canceling membership. I moved out of town and canceled my membership and paid my final dues. I was then charged for the next 6 months and told that I didn’t cancel my membership and that I needed to come in and fill out a cancelation form. Don’t link your bank account here

Go to this gum daily for a year now!

It’s got it’s normal gym antics but in general always clean, equipment if broken is fixed within a week, friendly staff, and many people I speak to feel the same!

I’m continually go here until I have to move.

Got nothing negative to say!

Been to other crunch fitness locations and this is by far the best one!

I’ve gone to this gym for years with no issues. Recently it has gone downhill. The reason I started using this gym was because of the women’s only area. The smith machine in the women’s only area has been broken for over a month now. How long does it take to fix this? Additionally cardio machines are constantly broken and they’re always out of wipes. Not to mention the front desk staff who literally just stand at the front desk reading. They also increased my membership fee for “planned improvements” but all I’ve seen is things just getting worse. Definitely looking into other gyms at this point and I advise you don’t go with this one.

I’ve been going to this gym on and off for about 10 years. The equipment is outdated and falling apart. You will literally grab metal on some of the equipment because the plastic and rubber wore off. Gym is grimy and not very clean. They increased the membership fees but didn’t do any upgrades or maintain it better. Not sure where the money is going as they have plenty of members. Perhaps they should stop opening new gyms and focus on maintaining the ones they already have. Staff and customer service is great. It’s close to home so I’ll still be a member unless something closer opens.

I really love this gym, in terms of environment and variety of equipment it's the best one I've been to. I LOVE that there is a women's only section, I feel genuinely comfortable working out. Also, the sauna in the locker room is great. Unfortunately, it could be much cleaner and the lockers could be upkept more (many broken locks and dirty lockers). It's a great gym, it just needs to be cleaner

The gym itself is alright it’s decently sized ,decent equipment some needs to be updated with rubber grips worn down to only metal but it’s alright, to use the basketball court you need a special most expensive membership and then they close it early around 7 o’clock now which sucks because a lot of people can’t make it to the gym until that time

I am extremely unhappy with Crunch. They rope you in to paying an annual fee even after you cancel your membership. Corporate does not have a phone number, only an email and does not work with you under any circumstances. Please save yourself some money and get a membership at another gym. Their gyms are also very small and have too many people. This company is a complete scam.

I can only speak for the Young St location, but it’s gone down hill quick. Multiple pieces of equipment marked ‘Out of Order.’ Specifically stairsteppers that have been out of order for at the least 3 months now. You’re lucky if the wipes are stocked up to wipe down equipment. Days will pass before they’re restocked. There will be random articles of clothing, socks, water bottles laying about for days on end. Staff will see things laying about and instead of adding to the list and found or moving these items, they stay put. Counter staff seems to do the bare minimum. Overall just a grimy, dingy environment. It hadn’t always been that way. The plus, the gym is pretty big and spacious. Just wish they’d clean up and repair machines before months pass by.

Decent commercial gym but don't expect much for powerlifters. 4 squat racks which 2 can double as deadlifting platforms and plenty of benches but they have the cheap fixed height racks which don't allow people with longer or shorter arms to rack and rerack comfortably. Generally crowded around the hours I visit, 1-3pm most days which means needing to work in but the clientele is respectful however re racking weights needs to be policed more as I've had to pull weight from various machines and barbells. Not as great as the gym I go to in Alaska however this gym serves its purpose and is clean and has a lot of equipment which is maintained well.

Signed up for a membership here out of convenience since my local Catalyst closed down. I have only been a member for a week and regret ever coming here.

A lot of the equipment, especially the olympic platforms and benches, is in disrepair, nobody bothers to organize plates whatsoever, and the staff (specifically one member) clearly does not respect the time and effort that people put into training.

I was willing to deal with the shoddy equipment and disorganization, but my experience with the staff tonight was the last straw.

Came in at 6pm. Knowing full well that I only had 1 hour left to train on a Sunday, I made the best of my time. At 630pm, half the lights went out and the music turned off. Nothing out of the ordinary here... However, at 645pm, ALL of the lights were turned off in the free weight section. Mind you, at least a dozen members were still using squat racks, benches, dumbbells, etc. It was completely dark.

People here are just trying to better themselves and improve their lives. The person who simply decided that they wanted to pull the plug (probably just to go home early) clearly has no respect or consideration for this gym's members, or their journeys. In fact, there are very real dangers of injury and LIABILITIES that could result from this sort of ignorance.

Needless to say I am cancelling my membership ASAP and demanding a refund.

For anyone considering membership here: I strongly suggest going somewhere else that won't turn the lights out on you and your goals, or worse, cause you physical harm out of pure negligence.

First and foremost, I want to say that this complaint is not about the club itself. This location is huge, very clean, and seemed to have many dedicated members. My complaint is about a class instructor, Erin W.. I’ve only been a Crunch member for just over a year. My regular club is the Amherst location but because Tonawanda is the only location semi-close to me that offers a spin class, I decided to drive a little further and check it out. I arrived at the club approximately 15 mins before the class start time. I asked the front desk attendant where the spin class was held as it was my first time to this location. Once I found the group fitness room, I immediately noticed that it was empty; I tried the doors, both of which were locked. So I returned to the front desk and explained the situation. The front desk attendant then retrieves his manager and I explain the situation again. The manager tells me “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe she’s running late?” Now, I don’t manage a business but, if I did, I would definitely want to know where my employees were. Especially if one of them was running a class that was supposed to be starting in less than 10 minutes. But I gave the benefit of the doubt and waited until 5:30 (class start time) and no one showed up! I ended up just doing a workout on my own but that’s something I could’ve done at my regular location or even at home! I understand that there may been an emergency and I truly hope nothing bad happened. I just feel that the way this was handled was very unprofessional. Especially since they expect the class members to arrive 10-15 mins before a class starts! It’s just a bummer that the only location that offers spin classes didn’t pan out. And now I’m nervous to sign up for that class again in the future in case the same thing happens.

My husband has loved crunch for the last 3 years. He especially chose Crunch because of the basketball court. The court has been closed since the COVID shutdown (understandably) and finally reopened last Monday. We were informed that now only members with peak plus membership can use the court (an extra $16 dollars a month aka double his current membership). While disappointed with this change of policy we were prepared to pay the additional cost however it doesn't seem like many others are. Each time he has gone to the gym very few (if any) other guys are playing. A one on one game or two on two is not nearly as fun as the full pick up games they were able to have before. Hopefully Crunch revisits this policy and more men can get back to utilizing the court.

Although there is a female section walled off from the rest of the gym, women still have to cross the general access area to get there. Also the entrances to the female section allows onlookers¡ they should be staggered. The wall-mounted TVs have glare from their proximity to ceiling lights. Equipment by the treadmills, stair climbers, and bikes are too close together. People squat on machines to use their phones making that equipment unavailable.

The worst experience of my life trying to leave this place. This gym is like a bad boyfriend who refuses to leave you alone. I canceled the membership in person in February. The desk person said I could come through a certain date, purposely misleading me and not advising that I would still be charged for another full month. I turned in my keytag on the day and said I would not be back because I am going to a new gym. Then, I was charged again for a full month that I obviously did not use. Now, they are calling me twice a day from some call center saying that there is something wrong with my account. Yes. The account is closed. Please stop bothering me!

Even if I wasn't having a better experience somewhere else, this gym is the worst. When there is someone at the desk, they do not care what you do, the women's area is always broken down, old, equipment that is frankly dangerous (treadmills, I'm looking at you), the saunas are broken all the time. The only good thing about it is that their cleaning person is excellent and is always working hard when I saw them.

Get it together or bring back the old staff!

My debit card was hacked and was issued a new one. I was sent 2 emails asking to update the billing information since it had been declined. I called and updated the information and told the representative I need to cancel my membership. She said I could go in person or send an email to the address she provided. I have sent 5 emails with zero response. Due to my schedule, it is not convenient to go to the location. However, it is very frustrating and is poor customer service to not answer an email. Asked them to cancel my account twice due to medical issues and yet they still charged my both times. Not only am I having medical issues but here in the time of covid I don’t feel comfortable going back right now anyway, with my less then year old son. Upon being charged twice and asking them what the hell they told me I needed to get a doctors note for them to freeze my account. Crunch, this Crunch fitness on Young's in Tonawanda is really well run and designed. Dan the manager was very friendly and explained everything in easy to understand detail. Billing, hours, amenities, facility. Crunch fitness does have a very nice Veterans discount. I got a phenomenal yearly deal. That's the way to go for maximum value. I'm very impressed with the amount and variety of high quality equipment. There's even a decent view out big windows while working out. Plenty of equipment wipe stations with garbage cans. Numerous drinking fountains. A huge basketball court. You can't get bored. Tire flipping. The entrance has a kids area, notifications, beverages, energy bars, apparel. Even clearence items like clothing and equipment. The locker rooms are great! Clean, spacious, carpeted. Nice deep lockers. Showers and a sauna. The location is perfect. Suggestion: on Monday and Tuesday evenings, they have a class which entails treadmill usage. Since it's usually pretty packed and it appears that only women are in this class, why don't you hold said class on the "Women's Only" area? Thanks.
