Dynamic Body Pilates' sessions have been really valuable to me. As a former.marathoner, I know about belly breathing but using it as a tool for muscle release is a game changer. I googled “Pilates for pain” randomly one day bc I was tired of spending so much money on medical treatments. I came across DBP and I’m so incredibly happy I did. In just 20 sessions (2xs a week) I feel and see the difference. The trainers at DBP are all incredibly nice and positive. Dynamic Body Pilates has been a game-changer for me. I’ve been training at DBP for just over a year, and it’s made a profound difference in my life. I came in somewhat skeptical—I’d been dealing with chronic back pain since college (I’m in my mid-40s now), and things had worsened in recent years with disc degeneration and pinched nerves. My bodywork specialist recommended Pilates for core stability and rehab, but I was hesitant. As a former college tennis player, I wrongly assumed Pilates wasn’t for me.
I tried several group classes at different studios, but the lack of individual attention left me frustrated and feeling like I wasn’t getting what I needed. Thanks to Dynamic Body Pilates I was finally able to reduce the sciatic pain that I’ve had for over 20 years! Sure wish they were here back then. This is not “regular” Pilates or physical therapy. It’s more akin to a deep medical view on how your body operates. If you have not been helped by any other therapy, I strongly recommend you try this. When I came to Rebecca I was unable to work as a nurse, go out to eat (restaurant chairs-ouch), or really function due to severe back pain and scoliosis.
I had done PT for MONTHS, which made things worse instead of better. I even saw 2 of the ‘best’ PTs in the city who were referred to me by my concierge doctor.
When I came to Rebecca, I was anxious and desperate-but she was patient and responsive to what caused pain. Through trial and error, she helped me find the few exercises that could help strengthen my body and we began with those. Slowly I progressed, and the pain dissipated. I couldn’t believe it! Instead of generic exercises prescribed by PT (bird dogs-you can’t do a bird dog correctly without core strength!!!!), she helped build my body up from feet to pelvis to core to shoulders to head!
Fast forward 2 months and I cannot believe what we have accomplished. I’m so strong and have developed routines I can do independently, which she encourages. I’m doing things I’ve never been able to do! Not to mention there’s a great side effect of looking physically fit too. I don’t know what I would’ve done without Rebecca.
Long story short, Pilates with Rebecca is the answer. Good luck to all the other back pain sufferers out there-you CAN get better!

The team at Dynamic Body Pilates are friendly, very attentive and knowledgable. They customize your "training" according to your experience and goals, which gets set up through a preliminary form and in person during the first session. In my case, I am a former dancer who wants to regain strength, alignment, flexibility and overall confidence in my body so that I can start dancing again without fear of getting hurt. My trainer Evan was well-prepared before each session and also adaptable to my requests. He noticed details, made me aware of and helped me correct constricting movement habits, and also was willing to answer questions. After researching many Pilates studios, I was drawn to DBP because of their uniquely personalized approach, practitioner knowledge and credentials, and diversity of younger and older clients.
Having been a client now for 4 months, I’m very grateful to Rebecca, Emma, and my wonderful instructor, Evan, for helping me overcome and alleviate symptoms stemming from cervical stenosis.
My experience started with a thorough assessment by Emma. She recorded my challenges with balance and severe neck pain and tension, evaluated my body movement and posture, and recorded my Pilates goals.
Through 1-on-1 sessions with Evan, I no longer have neck tension and pain, and my posture and balance have improved significantly. Evan is empathetic, patient, and caring. He is keenly attuned to my smallest movements and has helped me understand and appreciate the connection between my mind and my body. He offers gentle feedback as he corrects movements and is quick to compliment me when I do so on my own or perform well on a movement that has challenged me. I can't think of a single type of person who WOULDN'T benefit from a consultation with Dynamic Body Pilates.
My practitioner has been studying movement her entire life and it shows. Her understanding of the human body, married with her ability to quickly and accurately assess each individual's needs and then communicate that in a way that resonates - is really remarkable. There are countless Pilates instructors out there, but few that possess the depth of knowledge and communication skills that those at DBP have.
I initially came to DBP seeking out some effective warmup and cool-down exercises for my sports activities. Rather than just giving me a some quick exercises, they took time to do a holistic diagnostic and address more underlying issues that have lead to some chronic pain over the years. Based on my experience working with DBP and reading the reviews here - you're always going to walk away from each interaction with a much greater understanding of your own body than you could've hoped for. And that is the real magic of DBP!

I recently completed my 10 session (+ progress assessment) with owner Rebecca Lubart, and the experience was life-changing. The private sessions at DBP are so special because they are tailored so precisely to your individual needs and goals. I was so fortunate to work with Rebecca--she's so experienced and has such a natural gift for her work--she notices every, single, detail...it's quite astonishing. Even in a loose-fitting shirt, she would catch every minute adjustment...how I could melt my chest more, how my core needed to engage more...those eyes saw everything (sometimes I wished they didn't lol). She'd adjust my right foot ever so slightly, making sure I was in actual alignment and doing the exercises absolutely correctly.
Rebecca not only gave me the foundation I was looking for to reach my goal (of becoming a better inline skater), but she helped me understand why I had been pulling my muscle at the skatepark (which prompted my seeking her services to begin with). Rebecca provides such a holistic approach to her practice and she does it with such professionalism, enthusiasm and joy for her craft. When I got something right, she'd burst out with a "yes!!!" and I knew it was genuine and that I'd really mastered the move.
I could go on and on...and I already have...but I'll end by saying that I highly recommend Dynamic Body Pilates, and Rebecca Lubart specifically, if you are serious about understanding your body and figuring out how it can work better and feel better, no matter your level of fitness or what you're trying to achieve.

I am really glad I found this place after suffering from leg pain for over three years. I was a Dynamic Body Pilates client for about 10 months (2018-2019). It was a worth every nickel and every minute! As a young person who dealt with endless aches and pains, I had largely resigned myself to not being able to maintain a normal workout routine. DBP changed that entirely.

My session with Rebecca was eye-opening! She listened to my concerns and did an initial assessment of specific movements, posture, and gait, and explained where imbalances were present and how we could make improvements. I'm a Crossfit-er and I love the workouts and getting stronger, but it does come with self-care challenges and occasional aches and pains. Rebecca really has a special gift. She told me to come over and we would have some fun and honestly... I didn’t REALLY fully believe her.
And yet- there we were having fun- there were lots of neat props to play with. It was such an accepting, non-judgmental environment that I felt I could stop worrying about my own insecurities of being a beginner and just enjoy the process.

For years, I've been plagued with mysterious knee problems that seemed to perpetually nag and persist. Nothing I've ever tried has helped very much, and it seemed that my fate had been sealed. As a millennial, I'm inundated with endless posts of popular (mostly yoga-related) exercise trends. As alluring as naked or goat yoga sounds, I wasn't sure that sounded like a great use of my time or money, nor am was I certain that it would help me with any problems that I have.
Even after my first trip alone, I can't explain how much value and information that DBP provides about yourself, your body, your mechanics, and everything in-between....it was basically a religious experience. Turns out I don't know how to walk very well and I could strengthen a bunch of different muscles to help out with the knee problems. My favorite part is that they assess your entire body as a whole, meaning that even though I have knee problems, Rebecca identified a bunch of other parts of my body outside the knee that contribute to the problems that need to be worked on as well. This level of thoroughness is something I've rarely seen before!
What DBP has done is help me strengthen parts of my body to make my knee feel more stable and give me more confidence that it won't blow out randomly when I'm least expecting it. For years, I've had to cautiously turn down certain activities out of fear that I will seriously injure myself, and helping remove that fear does feel like a miracle. Maybe they are miracle workers?

Rebecca and team deserve 7-stars if such a rating existed. I never realized Pilates could be such a healing, holistic therapy until I experienced the approach at DBP. I was recommended to Rebecca through a chiropractor I was seeing for a badly herniated disc in my neck, plus 2 pinched nerves. I no longer could work out with my son, could barely get through the work day sitting at my desk for long hours and even just taking subway home was a nightmare of pain.
Rebecca put me back together and then some. Her knowledge of how the body moves and aligns (or should align) is remarkable, and I feel great after each session - and thoroughly worked out. I’m a professional dancer who’s been working with Rebecca for the past 4 ½ months to help treat a herniated disc in my lumbar spine. Our once a week Dynamic Body Pilates sessions have: helped alleviate the chronic pain and discomfort caused by injury, strengthened my deep abdominal muscles, taught me how to properly engage my core, increased my awareness of my breathing, helped me differentiate between muscles and make the choice of when they should and should not be firing, taught me how to work smarter instead of harder… I could go on and on! Here are the reasons why I believe Rebecca and her Dynamic Body Pilates system is so effective!
First, Rebecca gives her clients 55-minute private Pilates sessions. Instead of a being in a class filled with other people or having to share your time slot with a few other clients, Rebecca works one-on-one with only you! I truly appreciate this part of Rebecca’s approach because she is able to give me her complete, undivided attention and support each time we meet. She is with me every step of the way, during every exercise; watching, giving verbal cues, making tactile adjustments, and checking in with how I’m feeling. I know that I’m performing every exercise correctly and with maximum effectiveness because all of Rebecca’s focus is on me.
Another invaluable aspect of Rebecca’s work is that she creates a highly customized Pilates plan for each of her clients. Instead of following a cookie cutter method in which you progress through an array of generic Pilates exercises, Rebecca designs a unique movement system just for you! During our sessions Rebecca visually observes my body, watches and analyzes how I move, and uses a hands on approach to feel what my muscles are doing. She then uses all of that information to guide me through detailed movement explorations designed to address my specific back injury and pain. As a result of this personalization, every exercise is important and produces positive change in both my body and my mind.
The last and possibly most important reason why I’ve learned so much and made such large strides in my recovery is because of Rebecca’s constant encouragement and positive reinforcement! When I feel discouraged about not improving as quickly as I would like, Rebecca reminds me of all the progress I have made and how far I have come. When I doubt myself and question if I’m doing enough, she provides affirmation that I’m working hard, doing a good job, and that I should be proud of myself. And when my scared of getting hurt or attempting certain challenging exercises, Rebecca knows exactly what to say to calm my mind and boost my confidence. This emotional support has definitely been an integral part of my healing journey!
